Strong position for team in defense of IMSA GTLM championships

Team going for eighth class victory at historic Wisconsin track
Gavin, Milner GTLM winners at Road America in 2016
Garcia, Magnussen one point out of GTLM points lead

DETROIT (July 31, 2018) – Throughout its 20 seasons of competition, Corvette Racing has filled its résumé with some of the best racetracks in the world – 26 to be exact. None may be more liked than Road America, the picturesque four-mile track in the Kettle Moraine region of Wisconsin.

The long straights and high speeds of Road America make it a favorite among fans and drivers. That includes, of course, those within the Corvette Racing program. As the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship rolls into the Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, Corvette Racing is eager for its eighth class victory at the circuit – which would be No. 100 in IMSA competition – and a chance to close its gap in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) championships. THIS IS PROBABLY A SPECIAL WIN FOR YOU – SECOND AT SONOMA AND FIRST IN 10 YEARS?
“It is. I grew up north of here and I’ve been to every single one of the national events at Sonoma Raceway either as a fan, a crew member and now as a driver. It’s hard to believe that a guy from a small town in Northern California can win here.” Continue reading CHEVY RACING NHRA AT SONOMA: Post-race Driver Quotes

WILL POWER, NO. 12 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 2ND: SECOND PLACE NOT TOO BAD:
“Yeah, pretty good, yeah happy with front row. Obviously, it’s a real track position track, it’s difficult to pass and everyone is fast these days, so qualifying means a lot. Yeah, Alex (Rossi) just pumped out one really good lap there. I thought my lap was really good and then I came in and saw what he did and that was a solid lap.”

YOU HAVE QUALIFIED IN THE TOP SIX EVERY RACE THIS SEASON. WHEN YOU FINISH, YOU FINISH UP FRONT. HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THAT KNOWING THAT YOU COULD REALLY BE LEADING THE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH SOME LUCK?
“Oh yeah, we are very aware of that. Every time we finish it’s a great finish. We always qualify at the front, we are always quick, just got to minimize the DNF’s. I mean that has just killed us this year. We should be way up there in the championship, not 90 points behind. But, going to be real aggressive. I want to get back in the fight. Nothing worse than turning up to the last race without being in contention. So, I’m going to go for it.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Mid-Ohio–Qualifying

DARRELL ‘BUBBA’ WALLACE, JR. NO. 43 MILE 22 CAMARO ZL1, AND RICHARD PETTY MOTORSPORTS (RPM) TEAM OWNER, RICHARD PETTY met with media and discussed their contract extension beyond the 2018 season.

IS THIS GOING TO HELP YOU DRIVE WITHOUT UNCERTAINTY FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR SO THAT YOU DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE END OF THE YEAR AND LAST-MINUTE THINGS?
BUBBA WALLACE: “I didn’t drive with uncertainty. We’ve got to get some turn in the front of our race cars, so that’s what I’ve been worried sick about driving. But this definitely helps. If you take a step back and help sponsorship efforts, knowing that we have a set future ahead, we can sell that. That’s the biggest thing as a whole, how we want to make our program better from the outside looking in. That goes a long way. So, for us, we’re still in here turning wrenches and trying everything we can to get out race cars better.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Pocono–Bubba Wallace

I SPOKE TO CHAD KNAUS (CREW CHIEF) AT KENTUCKY AND HE SAID HE SAW THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. IS THAT TRUE OR IS IT THE TRAIN? WHAT IS THE MOMENTUM HERE FOR YOU GUYS?
“Well, we feel there is a lot of truth within it. Maybe we see things before they have a chance to be fully vetted and show up on the track with the results, but I think last weekend was a strong indicator we are going in the right direction. We have had various high spots along the way, but this has been way more challenging to… I would say through the middle part of last year and then in through this year for myself, for the No. 48 team, I think for our company, it’s been way more challenging than we anticipated. It took us awhile to get into this position, it’s going to take us awhile to get out of it and we continue to see high spots or things that are very motivating for us. That is the excitement we bring to the track each week and we have more new stuff this weekend that we are excited to take to the track and hopefully let the big black dyno out here being the race track prove all the hard work that we are doing behind the scenes, simulation, wind tunnel, chassis development, trying to understand tire data, all the little pieces of the puzzle that it takes. We are working very hard.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Pocono–Jimmie Johnson

Joined now by the three members of Team Penske, starting of course with Simon Pagenaud, who won from pole here in 2016, also coming off of some great momentum in Toronto. How important is that momentum for you heading into a weekend like this?

SIMON PAGENAUD: It’s always very important. I think momentum is what is super important in racing. It brings confidence up. It’s a snowball effect: the more momentum you can have, it’s going to carry you throughout the season. Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Mid-Ohio

EVERY SEASON HAS UPS AND DOWNS, BUT I DON’T THINK THE DOWNS HAVE EVER BEEN AS FAR AS THEY WERE EARLIER THIS SEASON. LET’S TALK ABOUT THE HIGHEST OF THE UPS
“I found myself with all the crashes and everything that happened probably at the lowest – worse than ’07 when I crashed — fighting to get back. I never let on to anybody but it showed that I looked like a mess. Then, after my last crash – I had four of them – John Bandimere calls me and says ‘We’ve got to talk.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, I know you love God and I know where you want to go. And I love Him, too, don’t get me wrong.’ He said, ‘You have to listen.’ He sent me stuff and I started reading. And he took me down this road and I said I don’t even know if I’m going to be able to get back ever and win a race. He said, ‘You can.’ He said, ‘When you get to Denver you’ll be fixed.’ He didn’t say I was going to win Denver. He said when you get there you’ll be fixed. ‘Now go out there and show me who John Force is.’ I found myself.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NHRA–Bandimere Post Race
