Race Highlights:
Richard Childress Racing teammates Paul Menard, Ryan Newman and Austin Dillon finished fourth, 11th and 22nd, respectively.
Newman ranks ninth in the Sprint Cup Series championship point standings, trailing current leader Jeff Gordon by 137 points, while Dillon ranks 13th and Menard ranks 17th.
Gordon earned his third victory of the 2014 season and was followed to the finish line by Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Menard and Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
The next Sprint Cup Series race is the Bristol Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 23, which is scheduled to be televised live on ABC beginning at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time and is scheduled to be broadcast live on the Performance Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Satellite Radio, channel 90.

Schatz Captures His 15th Win of the Season at Nodak Speedway
Extends World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series points lead to 154 over second place Daryn Pittman
MINOT, N.D. – Aug. 17, 2014 – Joey Saldana and Donny Schatz fought a pitched battle through much of the feature Sunday night at the Gerdau Magic City Showdown at Nodak Speedway presented by Schatz Crossroads Truckstop, but it was Schatz who came out on top, scoring his 15th World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series win of the season.
Schatz, a North Dakota native, said it meant a lot to him to get a win in front of a hometown crowd.

Line Takes Points Lead; Brainerd Eliminations to Conclude in Indy
Brainerd, Minn., August 17, 2014 – Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro pilot Jason Line had a very fast car on Sunday at Brainerd International Raceway and it paid off as he returned to the points lead for the first time since winning the season opener. He was on a tremendous ride in Minnesota as he barreled through eliminations at the racetrack’s 33rd annual NHRA Nationals with what was clearly the most powerful car on the property.

J. FORCE TO FIFTH FINAL IN A ROW; WILL SETTLE RACE IN INDY
BRAINERD, MN — John Force and his Castrol GTX High Mileage Mustang will have to wait two weeks to see if he will claim his fourth win of the season and his 142nd career victory. With persistent rain showers and darkening skies over Brainerd International Raceway, the final Funny Car round for the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals was postponed this evening and has been rescheduled for the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals. The Funny Car final will be run during Q3 on Saturday in Indianapolis.

Multi-Car Crash Spoils Bayne’s Quick Michigan Start

After a strong start to Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International Speedway, Trevor Bayne and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion were involved in a multi-car accident on lap 22 that led to a trip to the garage for major repairs and a 41st-place finish.

IT’S BEEN 13 YEARS SINCE YOU’VE BEEN TO VICTORY LANE HERE AT MICHIGAN. YOU HAD TO ASK WHERE IT WAS. ON THE RESTARTS:
“It wasn’t easy. It’s never easy to win at any of these tracks, especially when aerodynamics and track position mean so much. I thought we learned a lot the last time we were here on track position. Alan (Gustafson, crew chief) just called a perfect race. I kept getting on that inside lane and just not getting very good restarts. I knew it was going to get exciting with Kurt (Busch) and Joey (Logano). Those two are very, very aggressive; and of course Kurt got loose. That last restart was it. We had the car to win. Our car was amazing. But whoever got out in front had such a huge advantage. I got a good restart and Kevin (Harvick) for some reason, wasn’t getting good restarts, so Joey was sort of out there by himself and I was able to get to his quarter. When I got to his quarter, I dragged him back and I was able to shoot to the bottom and get by. But he made a heck of an effort. I thought he was going to get back by me; he almost did. And I just needed a couple of laps for my tires to come in and all of a sudden we were out front and setting sail and the checkered flag was waving. This is just unbelievably awesome. I’ve got to say hi to Ingrid and Ella and Leo back home. They couldn’t come today. But we’re celebrating your honor here and this is just amazing. This is fantastic.

Minnesota’s Line Starting Second in Brainerd
Brainerd, Minn., August 16, 2014 – The second day of qualifying at the NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway put Summit Racing Pro Stock driver Jason Line in a very good mood. Line, a native of Wright, Minn., made the quickest runs of the day in both of the qualifying rounds and earned six more bonus qualifying points, bringing his total of bonus marks collected over the course of the weekend at his home racetrack to nine. Ultimately, Line qualified second, just .008-second off of the top spot, and he will race Mark Hogan in the first round of eliminations on Sunday.

No. 1 IN BRAINERD JOHN FORCE CONTINUES QUALIFYING DOMINATION
BRAINERD, MN – On the final qualifying run today at the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals, John Force and his Castrol GTX High Mileage Mustang stampeded to the head of the pack with a stunning 4.060 second run at 315.27 mph after an afternoon rain shower cooled off Brainerd International Raceway. This is John Force’s fifth No. 1 qualifying position of the season and 151st of his career in Funny Car. John has also won this event 11 times before and will face Bob Bode in the opening round during Sunday’s eliminations.
