It was the first 200 mph qualifying lap at a 1.5-mile track in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series history, and is the 22nd qualifying record set in 2014
• Jeff Gordon, No. 24 Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet SS, posted his 22nd top-10 start of the 2014 season, and his 15th at Texas Motor Speedway
• Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe’s Red Vest Chevrolet SS, third fastest qualifier, posted his 15th top-10 start at Texas Motor Speedway, and his 19th in 34 races this season.

“It was three incredible laps and a great effort by our Drive To End Hunger Chevrolet team today. All day long we have had a fast race car. It’s awesome to be able to back that up in qualifying. It’s so tricky at a track like this where the tires fall off a little bit and this is an abrasive track, but super-fast. Great conditions and you are just trying to keep up with the adjustments each time you go out. I thought the team did a great job. We were fourth, third and second, so we kept getting better each round and Matt (Kenseth) put up a great lap and I just was off by the tiniest bit. IS THIS CHASE FORMAT WHAT FANS WANT? WHAT DO THE FANS REALLY WANT TO SEE IN RACING? IS IT WRECKING? IS IT PASSING? WHAT DO THEY WANT?
“I wish I knew. It seems like whenever I think I know what they want, they seem to ask for something different. I would think they want exciting racing and great tight battles down to the finish. Obviously fans have their favorites and those that they pull for and they want to see them in the mix. So, I love this format. I think this format is amazing. I hope that they like it. I don’t know how you make it any more interesting or any more exciting or tense than what they have. We feel it here in the garage area. I would think that they would sense and feel it. And from a lot of fans that I’ve spoken to, they do. Like at Talladega. They felt that intensity and nervousness. Additionally, Wood likely will be paying more attention to how Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and Carl Edwards fare in the championship battle that he did to his own team back in 1963 when it won the owner’s championship in the series now known as Sprint Cup. TALK ABOUT HOW THINGS ARE GOING AND YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THE CHANGES TO YOUR TEAM ANNOUNCED THIS WEEK:
“Talladega was just about right. Going into the pits leading, coming out leading and having Jimmie (Johnson) behind me. I knew there wasn’t very much left because I knew that we were not that far off on making it on fuel so I knew it was a pretty short distance. I thought ‘wow this is going to be awesome, me and Jimmie.’ Then I was like ‘and Jimmie has got to win to get in the Chase’, I’m like ‘this could get really messy’. But then the yellow came out, so then it could have gotten a different kind of messy, but we were in a good spot. I think in general things have been going alright. We have been running better here at the end of the season and putting our races together better, I think we had some speed like we have had lately earlier this season, but just weren’t able to fully execute or had either mistakes on my part or failures or mistakes on pit lane that would affect our outcome. “I get to do a lot of really cool things. It’s opened my eyes so much to this cause and how many millions of people are dealing with hunger issues in America. And because of that, we get to do some pretty cool things. Yesterday was definitely one of the highlights. A woman names Freida (Evans, 89), who lives in Rockingham County very near by, to here, in North Carolina, who relies on Meals on Wheels to deliver her meals every day. She’s the classic story of individuals who need those meals desperately because she worked so hard to feed her family throughout her whole life and gave everything for them. And now, she relies on those meals. And it was pretty cool to be able to deliver that one-millionth meal for Meals on Wheels to her in the state of North Carolina. The Top Fuel dragster was designed by Force and the in-house JFR graphic design team.

Force won the 2013 award on the strength of her season long improvement capped by a semi-final finish at the Auto Club NHRA World Finals as well as winning the fan vote earlier in the season for the 2nd annual Traxxas Shootout. 2014 season winding down; personnel changes at KKR

The end of the racing season is here. A quick way to tell, for sprint car fans anyway, is most of the shows are now on Saturday nights as opposed to the often mid summer mid-week shows throughout the country. To close out the season, the KKR teams are in-shop from Monday to Thursday evening, with Friday’s designated as a travel day for the remaining four events of 2014.

KKR has gone through a few personnel changes recently, with No. 49 crew chief David Fero moving over to the NASCAR world in 2015 as a mechanic on Kyle Larson’s No. 42 Sprint Cup car. Former No. 9 mechanic Mike Carber was promoted to the No. 49 crew chief for Brad Sweet, and Austin Wenrch, a seasoned mechanic from Pennsylvania, was added to the No. 49 crew.
