Does this win make you and your team in play for the world title?
“Yeah, for sure! It’s a long Countdown – plenty to go. There’s a bunch of really good cars out there. Right now, we can only control what we can control which is taking it one lap and one race at a time. I know that’s cliché, but fact of the matter is, it’s true. We have to take care of business and let the points take care of themselves. Great job to Mike Green (co-crew chief), Tommy DeLago (co-crew chief) and our whole SCAG Power Equipment Toyota team. The car has been so straight (this weekend), so smooth and they did an awesome job. Thanks to all our SCAG dealers and distributors here with us this weekend, everyone at Toyota, Mac Tools, Mobil 1. It takes a team, and everyone did it as a team (today). Four-wide (Nationals) win; Countdown win. Doesn’t get any better than this!”

How do you process something like that to the car body?
“Well, those (things) are sudden. Guido (Dean Antonelli, crew chief) will find out why (the car) did it. These are the most amazing race cars in the world — and the fastest by far. Been doing it a long time. They’re the fastest motorsports on the planet, but (also) the safest. That happening, I still didn’t feel like I was out of control. The car was sort of bouncing around. Just a tribute to everyone who works on these cars, builds them and spends extra time on the cockpits and making them safe. Guido’s really good about that. And all of our NAPA people. They’re out here supporting us. This gets expensive for whoever’s budget. But, what a NAPA Auto Care GR Supra Funny Car! To go 3.89 (twice). Not sure if it put a hole out. Didn’t feel like it did. Austin (Prock) poked his nose out and that’s the last I remember. Then I was coasting to the finish line, trying to not do what we did in Phoenix — hit the wall. Hope the chassis is okay. Tried to get out and find the camera to wave to my mom so she knew I was okay.”
