Dominic Scelzi Closing in on Second Straight KWS/NARC Championship

Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2022) – Dominic Scelzi is bound for The Dirt Track at Kern County Raceway Park this Saturday during the second-to-last King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series race of the season.

Scelzi enters the Sprint Car Showdown at the oval in Bakersfield, Calif., with a 64-point lead in the championship standings. He simply needs to make a qualify attempt during each of the final two series races to wrap up his second straight championship.

“It’s been a very consistent season and I’m excited we’ve set ourselves up to just go after wins during the last couple of races,” he said. “We’re one win away from our 10th of the season and I really want to get to double digits again.”

Scelzi is tied for the series lead with four feature triumphs this season. He also leads the series with 148 feature laps led, five quick times in qualifying, six heat race victories and five dash wins.

“We’d love to have more wins at this point in the season, but I can’t complain about the success we’ve had,” he said. “We’ve done well at this track so I feel confident we will be a contender on Saturday.”

Scelzi placed second at The Dirt Track at Kern County Raceway Park last year. He swept a pair of series races there in 2019 and was third during his debut in 2018.

Scelzi is coming off a frustrating outing during the annual Trophy Cup, which features 80 of the top competitors from across the country vying for the coveted top prize. Scelzi capped the three-day event at Thunderbowl Raceway by rallying from 10th to third place in a B Main to make the main event on Saturday. He finished 22ndin the feature and 24th in overall event points.

“It was definitely not the weekend we expected so we’re eager to get back to a race track to get the sour taste out of our mouth,” he said. “Fortunately we have another good track for us coming up this weekend and hopefully we can get back to Victory Lane.”
