Summit Racing–Anderson just misses the top spot on day one at New England Nationals

Anderson just misses the top spot on day one at New England Nationals

EPPING, N.H., June 12, 2015 – It’s a new week, and Greg Anderson continues to fly in his red Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro. Still confident after last week’s win from the No. 1 spot in Englishtown, the 76-time NHRA Pro Stock winner brought more power to the table on the first day of the 3rd annual NHRA New England Nationals and landed in the No. 2 position with two more sessions to go before the field is set.

Right away, Anderson was feeling fine at New England Dragway as he checked in with a 6.560-second pass at 212.83 mph. The run was powerful and productive, launching him up to the No. 2 position and bringing in a pair of bonus qualifying points.

“The track is good,” said Anderson. “The starting line is a little different, but if you can negotiate that, the rest of the racetrack is pretty good, just as we knew it would be. It’s the guy who can come up with the best setup that’s going to be the quickest car out here.”

Anderson’s second attempt was again second-quickest of the round, and his 6.521 at 213.30 mph was quick and very fast, but it missed the top spot by a torturous .001-second.

“To lose the No. 1 spot by just a thousandth stinks, but the good news is that our cars are very fast,” said Anderson, who accumulated a total of four bonus points on Friday. “We kind of picked up right where we left off in Englishtown; my Summit Racing Chevy Camaro made great runs there and was fast, and it made two great runs here today.

“My hat’s off to Chris McGaha [provisional No. 1 qualifier]. He did one heck of a job today, but I definitely see areas where we can improve, and I’m pretty proud and happy of the KB Racing team – if it wasn’t for Chris, we would have been No. 1 and No. 2, and we’re looking forward to tomorrow to try and close that gap and leap frog around him. We know we have great cars that we can race with on Sunday, and that’s a very good feeling. We can’t wait.”
