Menards/Aquafina Team Hoping To Build On Recent Success At Vegas

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Aquafina team won’t be a part of the Monster Energy Cup Series playoffs as they had planned. But that doesn’t mean they won’t be racing just as hard over the final 10 events of the 2018 season.

Menard finished the 26-race regular season in 18th place in the points standings, which left him two spots shy of being among the 16 drivers who will start the playoffs this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which statistically is Menard’s best track.

It’s also been a good one lately for his Wood Brothers team, which has an average finish of 7.3 over the past three races including a ninth-place run by Menard back in March in the third race of the season.

Eddie Wood said he and his teammates are ready to show the team’s potential over the final 10 races, and Sunday’s 400-miler at Las Vegas offers them a good chance to shine.

“We ran well at Vegas in the spring, and we’re looking forward to going back,” he said.

Wood remains positive about his team’s prospects despite missing the cut for the playoffs.

“Although a lot of unfortunate circumstances kept us from making the playoffs, we’re going to go at these final 10 races as hard as we can,” he said. “Our goal is to win a race, and winning races is what this sport is all about.”

Qualifying for the South Point 400 is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time, and the race is expected to start just after 3 p.m. on Sunday with TV coverage for both events on NBCSN.

BRITTANY FORCE GLAD TO START COUNTDOWN AT MAPLE GROVE RACEWAY
READING, Pa (September 12, 2018) — Brittany Force will be jumping back into her Advance Auto Parts Top Fuel dragster to begin the defense of her 2017 Mello Yello NHRA Top Fuel championship this weekend at the Dodge NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway. The Countdown, NHRA’s six race playoff dash, will begin and Force will have an added level of comfort starting the playoffs at an event where she has had the most success in her young career.

In five races the Top Fuel champion has raced to three final rounds including a win last year over championship runner-up Steve Torrence. A win/loss record of 12-4 gives Force confidence and a level of comfort she can use to her advantage as she looks to reel in Torrence again for the championship. Force hasn’t had this much success at any other track beside Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park where she has three runner-up finishes. Season is over and it didnt end as we had expected, but still not too bad. We missed nr 2 spot with 1 point or 0.005 sec.
We needed to qualify nr 2 and we was after first day but got clutchproblem Saturday when track got better and lost that spot to Ernryd ( nr 2 overall) with 0.005 sec and that was the 1 point we needed to claim nr 2 spot.
We really never had a shot at nr 1 after our failer at Tierp first round.
We beat Ernryd in semi and if we would win finals that would also put us at nr 2 , But we tryed to hard against Ljungdahl and shook. He run 6,66, but qualifyed at 6,61 compare to our 6,64.
We really never made a good run this weekend.
Good side is that we now have a lot of data at all tracks with our new Gray power under the hood, way diffrent to drive/ tune then our old Bob Ingles engine.
But hey we have been in finals twice this year, fastest car at many races, so we have for sure made a good move closer to the top.
Now we need to go over our clutches totally, service engine, see where we did fail and make sure it aint gone happen again.
Again concider the competition nr 3 is OK but we had set our goal higher, and we just need to work harder next year

READING, Pa. (September 12, 2018) — Few drivers have had more success at Maple Grove Raceway, site of this week’s Dodge NHRA Nationals, than drag racing legends John Force and Kenny Bernstein.

Between them, the two appeared in 21 finals. They won 10 races. Bernstein is the only driver to have won in both Top Fuel and Funny Car while Force has hoisted more Wally trophies at The Grove than any driver in history (seven).
