Dominic Scelzi Hopeful to Return to Racing by Early October Following Fractured Femur

Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (Sept. 11, 2018) – Dominic Scelzi will be sidelined for approximately another month as he recovers from a broken bone in his right leg.

Scelzi sustained a fracture in his femur during a crash on Sept. 1 at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., at a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and flew home to California on Sept. 3. Scelzi had an MRI that day and it revealed the significance of the injury.

“I have about three to six weeks of bed rest,” he said. “If it heals up right I can get back in the car. I’ll just need physical therapy for the muscles and ligaments, but in the meantime I have to stay in bed all the time.”

Scelzi said his goal is to return to action by the first week of October and to be up to speed by the 25th annual Trophy Cup, which is Oct. 18-20 at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif.

Scelzi produced a career-best season this year prior to the injury.

“I’m happy with where we’re at, but I’m frustrated that I didn’t get to see what we could do at the Gold Cup last weekend,” he said. “With the way we’ve been running and how well I run at Silver Dollar Speedway (in Chico, Calif.) I feel like that was my best shot at winning a World of Outlaws race. I’m hungry to get back in the car and return to racing.”

Scelzi recently tied his career-best World of Outlaws finish of third and his six top 10s this year with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’ is more than the previous five years combined.
