I wish we could have been up at the front racing for the win, but we unfortunately ended up back in the pack and got caught up in an incident that put us laps down. It wasn’t the result we wanted, but we’ll work on it and I’m looking forward to getting back on asphalt next week at Pocono (Raceway).”

Engine Failure Relegates Brett Moffitt to 31st-Place Finish at Kentucky Speedway After Strong Debut

On Thursday, Brett Moffitt finished 31st at Kentucky Speedway after losing an engine, just 27 laps into the Buckle Up In Your Truck 225. Moffitt, in the No. 11 Surface Systems Sunscreen Toyota Tundra for Matt Tifft, had a strong weekend prior to the engine failure. Inclement weather on Wednesday resulted in only two of three scheduled practices, and Moffitt posted the sixth fastest time in the first and was fastest in final practice. On Thursday, Moffitt transferred into the final round of single-truck knockout qualifying to earn a second-place starting spot for the 150-lap event. Moffitt maintained position in the top five, but on lap 27, his engine expired, relegating him to a 31st-place finish.

Brett Moffitt Quotes:
“About two laps before, I had a small vibration and it kind of went away, so I figured it was something in the transmission or the clutch that happens a lot. We had a really good Surface Sunscreen Toyota Tundra and this was just kind of a bummer.”

“Through turns 1 and 2 it stuck pretty good, by the time we got up to speed through turns 3 and 4 there was a little less grip out there. I didn’t push the issue too much early on, we were a little too tight to start that run. We needed to make some adjustments to the truck. Other than that, the Red Horse Racing group brought a great truck and I can’t thank them enough.”

Timothy Peters Bounces Back for Top-10 at Kentucky Speedway

Timothy Peters rebounded at Kentucky Speedway to record his seventh top-10 in 10 races in the Buckle Up In Your Truck 225. The No. 17 team unloaded the red and white Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra for two practices on Wednesday afternoon and recorded the 11th fastest speed in the first and the eighth fastest speed in the second practice. On Thursday afternoon, in knockout single truck qualifying, Peters secured the 14th-place starting spot in the first round. Prior to the first caution flag, Peters reported that his Tundra was tight in turn 2. Under the yellow, he visited pit road and crew chief Shane Huffman gave him two tires and fuel, as well as adjustments and he gained three positions to restart in the eighth position. Peters moved up to the sixth position by the yellow flag on lap 43. Under a caution on lap 46, Peters again visited pit road and this time took four Goodyear tires and Sunoco fuel, restarting in the 17th position. Under the next yellow, as competitor pit stops cycled through, Peters stayed out and took the lead. He would lead a total of five laps, then drop to second, but during a two-tire stop under caution on lap 104, the fuel cell was not filled all the way, so Huffman called Peters back for two more tires and additional fuel before the restart. With 41 laps to go, Peters restarted 19th, and battled back to gain 10 spots and take the checkered flag in ninth.

Germán Quiroga Earns Top-10 Finish at Gateway Motorsports Park

On Saturday, Germán Quiroga earned a seventh-place finish in the Drivin’ For Linemen 200 at Gateway Motorsports Park. During two practice sessions on Saturday morning, Quiroga posted the 15th and fourth fastest times. A rain shower moved through just before qualifying was scheduled to begin, and the field was set per the NASCAR Rule Book based on practice times. Quiroga took the green flag in fifth position, but soon reported that he was too free in turns 3 and 4, falling back out of the top 10. During the second caution on lap 28, crew chief Scott Zipadelli called Quiroga to pit road for two tires, fuel and adjustments. After restarting in the 12th position, Quiroga reported that his No. 11 Toyota Tundra was very loose and on the following caution period on lap 69, he again visited pit road, this time for four tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment. He continued to battle a loose condition and would visit pit road again one more time for another four-tire stop. Quiroga was able to avoid several late-race wrecks to drive into the top 10 and secure a seventh-place finishing position.

Ty Dillon avoids trouble, finishes 24th at Michigan International Speedway in No. 95 Red Kap/Nexteer Chevrolet
“Today was an OK day for our No. 95 Red Kap/Nexteer Chevy. The car had speed throughout most of the race and I was able to race inside the top 20. We gained a lot of positions on the restarts, which are important to capitalize on at tracks like Michigan. We probably could have been a little better on pit road with a few stops in the middle of the race and in the end, it probably would have helped to take fresh tires during the last caution, but hindsight is always twenty-twenty. This biggest plus from today was we stayed out of trouble, kept the car clean and finished on the lead lap. I’m grateful for the opportunity to race today and log some more laps; all a part of the learning process. It was great to have friends from Nexteer Automotive and VF Imagewear here today supporting our team.”

On Thursday, in two practice sessions, Peters posted the second and 17th fastest times. On Friday afternoon, on a hot, slick track, Peters transferred into the second and final round of single-truck knockout qualifying to earn the eighth starting spot. The Danville, Virginia driver quickly began to move toward the front of the field, reaching the top-five by the time the first caution flag flew on lap 12. Peters stayed out under this caution, and soon reported a free handling condition in his red and white Toyota Tundra. Crew chief Shane Huffman brought him to pit road for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment during a caution on lap 52. Peters restarted in the fifth position and remained in the top-five until the caution flew again on lap 97. Matt Tifft Earns Best Career Series Finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Matt Tifft and the No. 11 NASCAR Heat Toyota Tundra team picked up a fifth-place finish in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This was Tifft’s best career finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Tifft was ninth fastest in the only practice session on Thursday evening, and on Friday, qualifying was rained out, so the race lineup was set per the NASCAR Rule Book. Due to the inclement weather, the race was also postponed until Saturday afternoon. When the green flag fell under sunny skies, Tifft rolled off ninth, but encountered an extremely tight handling condition on his Toyota Tundra immediately. Crew chief Scott Zipadelli called Tifft to pit road twice for four Goodyear tires and Sunoco fuel, but despite multiple adjustments, was unable to find a good balance on the Tundra. During the final caution period on lap 73, Tifft returned to pit road to top off with fuel, then was able to save enough to stay out for the rest of the race and pick up positions as other teams had to pit for fuel. Tifft finished fifth, which was his highest series finish to date.

Top-Ten Finish Propels Peters to Points Lead at Kansas

Timothy Peters piloted the No. 17 Red Horse Racing Tundra to an eighth-place finish at Kansas Speedway, which boosted him into the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points lead. On Thursday, the Danville, Virginia resident was 11th, 14th and 13th-fastest in three practice sessions. On Friday afternoon, Peters transferred his red and white Tundra to the second and final round of single-truck qualifying to earn the eighth starting position for the Toyota Tundra 250. After the green flag flew on Friday evening, Peters reported a slight tight condition, but was soon happy with the No. 17 machine. The 20-minute caution clock expired on lap 45, and crew chief Shane Huffman called Peters to pit road for four tires and fuel. A rash of caution periods followed, during which Peters visited pit road for fuel only. On lap 122, the caution clock expired again, and Huffman brought Peters to pit road for another four-tire pit stop. Peters restarted in the second position and briefly took the lead before the caution flag flew again. On the following restart, Peters was battling for the lead when contact with another vehicle caused him to fall back and scrape the wall. Peters found himself in the tenth position as the final caution flag flew, sending the event into overtime. As there were only a few trucks on the lead lap, the team decided to bring Peters to pit road for four tires for the final restart. Restarting in the 13th position, Peters gained five spots to finish eighth at Kansas Speedway and claim the series’ points lead.

Timothy Peters Quote:
“We had a great Toyota Tundra tonight. I’m really proud of Shane (Huffman, crew chief) and everyone at Red Horse Racing. I just made a mistake there at the end going for the lead, and I feel like we could have gotten a much better result than eighth. I’m excited to go to Dover (International Speedway) next weekend and see what we can do there.”

Matt Tifft Earns 14th-Place Finish in First Start for Red Horse Racing

Nineteen-year-old Matt Tifft climbed aboard the No. 11 Toyota Tundra for his first race with Red Horse Racing and brought home a 14th-place finish at Kansas Speedway. After unloading on Thursday, Tifft was fast right off the bat, putting up the third, 13th and 11th fastest speeds in the three practice sessions. On Friday afternoon, the Hinckley, Ohio native transferred the No. 11 machine into the second and final round of single-truck qualifying and secured the seventh starting spot for the Toyota Tundra 250. As the sun set over the 1.5-mile facility, Tifft took the green flag. He reported a slight tight condition to crew chief Scott Zipadelli early in the race, and then felt a vibration in the right front tire, so he hit pit road for four tires under green flag conditions on lap 25. Tifft stayed out and took the wave around when the caution clock expired, then under subsequent caution periods was able to get back on the same pit sequence as the rest of the field. With 105 laps to go, Tifft had worked his way into the top 10 and as high as second-place. A four-tire stop under caution dropped the No. 11 back to 20th, but Tifft methodically worked his way back through the field, then after another four-tire stop restarted in the eighth position with 40 laps to go. On a restart at lap 135, the No. 11 sustained damage from another vehicle, resulting in a loss of handling. Tifft was able to survive a final green-white-checkered restart and finish in the 14th position.

Matt Tifft Quote:
“Our No. 11 Toyota Tundra was really fast tonight. Scott (Zipadelli) and the guys did a great job making adjustments on it all night, and they did well getting our track position back for us. We ended up with some damage on a restart at the end, so our result wasn’t what it could have been. I’m looking forward to going to Dover (International Speedway) next weekend with this team and I think our Tundra will be fast there as well.”
