Acura NSX GT3 Evo Opens 2019 With a Victory at Circuit of the Americas
• Kyle Marcelli, Martin Barkey earn season’s first win for Acura Motorsports
• Marcelli, Barkey lead the ProAm class in points after opening race weekend
• Ryan Eversley, Till Bechtolsheimer complete Acura NSX 1-2 finish on Sunday

AUSTIN, Texas (March 3, 2019) – Kyle Marcelli and Martin Barkey wasted no time in taking the new Acura NSX GT3 Evo to Victory Lane, earning the car’s first ProAm class win in Blancpain GT World Challenge America competition and leading an Acura 1-2 Sunday at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

Marcelli started from the pole in his Racer’s Edge Acura NSX GT3 Evo in Sunday’s event and deftly maneuvered through opening-lap contact to build an early lead. The Canadian driver then handed off to Barkey, who held serve during a late caution period and carried the #80 car home ahead of the NSX GT3 of Ryan Eversley and Till Bechtolsheimer to complete an Acura 1-2 finish. The win came on the heels of Saturday’s season-opener that saw Marcelli and Barkey score a podium with a third-place finish.

Eversley and Bechtolsheimer also avoided the early carnage in Sunday’s event, then overcame their misstep in the pits to secure a second-place finish. The weekend saw Eversley return to the cockpit of the Acura after a 2018 season that saw him earn a World Challenge TCR title in the Honda Civic Type R. The #8 Gradient Racing Acura NSX GT3 finished fifth in Saturday’s 2019 opening race, and is currently third in the series point standings.

Quotes
Kyle Marcelli (co-driver, #80 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 Evo) claims the early-season ProAm championship lead with finishes of third and first this weekend: “We exceeded our expectations for the weekend, for sure. We thought coming in [to the weekend] that we’d be happy with a pair of top fives [race results], but the team gave us a really fast Acura NSX and we had a strong weekend.”

Ryan Eversley (co-driver, #5 Gradient Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 Evo) finished second in the ProAm class on Sunday: “A 1-2 for Acura is a great way to cap the opening weekend of GT Racing. It was a pretty crazy start [on] Sunday, guys were hitting us and I just wanted to get through clean and get it back to [co-driver] Till [Bechtolsheimer] in one piece. We had a problem with our seat belts on the pit stop, but we recovered well. It was a good race and I think if we had 10 more minutes, we might have had a shot at the win.”

John Whiteman (Manager, Commerical Motorsports, Honda Performance Development): “The Acura NSX GT3 Evo teams were strong throughout the weekend, and ended with an incredible 1-2 finish on Sunday’s race. The performance and driveability of the new Evo package was on full display here at the Circuit of the Americas. Congratulations to the teams for their hard work and well-deserved results!”

SHANGHAI (Nov. 18, 2018) – Corvette Racing’s closed its 20th season of competition Sunday with hard-fought effort in the FIA World Endurance Championship’s Six Hours of Shanghai as Tommy Milner, Oliver Gavin and the whole of the Corvette Racing program weathered… well, the weather.

Not only was it the first time for the Corvette Racing at Shanghai, but a moderate and steady rain in the race’s opening half and at the end made the day even more daunting.

Nevertheless, the team minimized both its time in the pitlane and mistakes in front of an enthusiastic crowd and a considerable group of Chevrolet’s Chinese guests. Continue reading CORVETTE RACING AT SHANGHAI: Chaotic Close to 20th Season Gavin, Milner weather challenges of Shanghai Six Hours

Acura Teams Ready for Season-Ending Petit Le Mans

Acura Teams Ready for Season-Ending Petit Le Mans

  • Ricky Taylor leads Acura Team Penske to fifth in prototype qualifying
  • Mario Farnbacher pilots his Acura NSX GT3 to sixth in GTD
  • Katherine Legge continues chase for GTD championship
  • Acura NSX GT3 Evo unveiled, on display, at Road Atlanta

BRASELTON, GA (October 12, 2018) – Acura Team Penske’s Ricky Taylor will start fifth in Saturday’s season-ending Petit Le Mans, while Katherine Legge’s #86 Acura NSX GT3 will start from sixth in the GTD class, as she and her Meyer Shank Racing team chase the GTD championship in the final round of the 2018 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

In addition to the overall GTD title fight, Acura contends for both the Prototype and GTD manufacturers’ crowns in the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Championship. All will be decided in Saturday’s 10-hour race at Road Atlanta.

Earlier today, Acura unveiled an enhanced NSX GT3, designated the NSX GT3 Evo, which will compete on racetracks throughout the world in 2019, including the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The Acura NSX GT3 Evo is on display in the Road Atlanta infield “Fan Zone” through this weekend’s Petit Le Mans.

Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3

Legge and the MSR team will start their Acura sixth, alongside their championship rivals, Lamborghini drivers Bryan Sellers and Madison Snow, who qualified fifth today. Legge trails Sellers and Snow by six points, with up to 35 points on offer in the race. After qualifying sixth today, Alvaro Parente will start the #86 NSX GT3 in the car he shares with Legge and Trent Hindman.

In the #93 MSR Acura, Mario Farnbacher will start fourth in the car he shares with regular-season drivers Lawson Aschenbach and Justin Marks, as the trio seek to finish its 2018 season on a high note and support the championship efforts of their teammates.

Acura Team Penske Prototype

Acura Team Penske’s Taylor will start on the inside of the third row, fifth, in the #7 ARX-05 he shares with Helio Castroneves and Graham Rahal in search of the team’s second victory of 2018. Taylor and Castroneves led an Acura Team Penske 1-2 finish at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in May.

Driving the #6 Acura ARX-05, Juan Pablo Montoya will start eighth before handing over to regular co-driver Dane Cameron and endurance driver Simon Pagenaud.

Quotes

Alvaro Parente (driver, #86 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3) qualified sixth in GTD: “We weren’t able to extract the same segment time in sector three [the final third of the lap] during qualifying as we did in practice. The car was fine everywhere else. But that little bit cost us grid positions. It’s a long race where anything can happen, so we just need to be smart. My goal is have a clean start and hand over a good car to [co-drivers] Katherine [Legge] and Trent [Hindman], so we are in the best spot possible for the championship. We’ll see what we can do tomorrow!”

Ricky Taylor (driver, #7 Acura Team Penske ARX-05) qualified fifth: “I mean, it’s good when you’re disappointed with a fifth-place [qualifying run]. We probably didn’t put together the perfect lap. If we had, then maybe we would’ve been fighting for a top three or so. Our Acura has been quick, especially at night. So, the goal for tomorrow is to get through the daylight hours without problems. Then, by about seven or eight o’clock, we should be in really good shape for the closing hours.”
