CORVETTE RACING AT LE MANS: Halfway Update
Milner surges back into lead after strong stints by Gavin, Taylor in No. 64 Corvette C7.R

LE MANS, France (June 13, 2015) – With 12 hours down and 12 to go, Corvette Racing is in the midst of a fight for top honors at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Tommy Milner retook the lead in GTE Pro in his first stint just past the halfway point Sunday morning at Le Mans. Oliver Gavin drove three stints on two sets of tires and led GTE Pro twice during his time in the No. 64 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R before handing off to Milner for his second round of driving duties. JUNE 13, 2015

WILL POWER, NO. 1 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, pole winner for Indy Toronto. It is the fifth pole of the season for Power and the 41st of his Verizon IndyCar Series career, breaking the tie with Rick Mears for fifth on the all-time pole winner list.

“I had no idea (he would have a chance for the pole). I was just hoping I would be like fourth or third, something like that. I did not expect to be on pole, so, yeah, I’m very happy.” (About how tough the track is to drive): “You’ve got to drive around here. It’s all man-handling because you’ve got those slippery surfaces in the middle of the corners, so you’ve got to be on the wheel a lot.” (About whether there will be passing opportunities in the race): “There is going to be a lot of moving into Turn 3 and obviously into Turn 1 there’s always a lot of action. Starting on pole is great, it keeps me out of the mess early on. Obviously Indy car races are never straightforward, so it’s just awesome to get the pole because I really wasn’t expecting it, so I was really happy with that. It’s long day tomorrow, we’ll see what we can do.” (About his hand injury): “It’s sore but it’s fine. You’ve just got to mentally switch it off when you hit a bump. It’s fine. It’s cracked or fractured, so I can’t do any more damage to it. That’s the good thing.”

JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, NO. 2 PPG AUTOMOTIVE REFINISH TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET: ON LEADING CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS: “You can’t focus on points, you have to focus on executing every weekend and if things work out well then we look good. It’s exciting to be in my second year back and leading the points though it doesn’t guarantee anything but so far it’s been a good season.”

ON BEING FASTEST IN PRACTICE: I think we have really good cars in Toronto. We went out, didn’t get in many laps because we had a problem with the brakes. But we fixed that and went back out and the speed was there. It’s encouraging, but with the rain it just makes it hard because we start over again tomorrow.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Toronto–Practice Quotes

KASEY KAHNE, NO. 5 GREAT CLIPS CHEVROLET SS – POLE WINNER
“I got through (Turns) 1 and 2 pretty good. I just got a little free but was able to stay in it. And then in (Turn) 3 I was like man, I was a little loose there and I’ve been back-pedaling more than I wanted to. So, I pushed harder in (Turn) 3 and I started to kind of slide the nose, so I had to backpedal and go back down. I knew it killed my exit a little, but it was still a great lap. Our Great Clips Chevrolet has had speed all three runs, so I knew we’d have a shot today, so that was cool. It’s been a while since we’ve had a pole.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Michigan–Qualifying Notes

TRUEX, JR: “Yeah, it’s definitely been a great week. It’s been a little bit crazy. I’ve been in Michigan trying to do a little bit of vacationing. I generally come up here after Pocono and spend a week fishing. And we’ve got some friends up in Traverse City, Lake Michigan area, and we go up and spend some time there and I do some fishing. I had a good test at Darlington on Wednesday, so I’ve been all over the place. I’ve done a lot of interviews and a lot of different things all week, but it’s been a great week. It’s been awesome just to feel the excitement around the race team to feel kind of a sense of accomplishment that we have this week and I’m just really looking forward to the weekend here at Michigan and to keep this thing going and working towards what we want to do for the last 10 races.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Michigan–Martin Truex, Jr.

ON RACING AT MICHIGAN:
“This is a track, certainly after how we performed last year, and just a track that I’ve enjoyed over the years a lot; I love the transitions, I love the speeds, I love the big sweeping corners and the challenges that this track presents to a driver. You can move around. And the groove is starting to get wider and wider each time we come here. So, yeah, I definitely have confidence with the type of season that we’ve had so far. It’s great to come to a place like Michigan. We were fast in practice. It looks like we’re going to get a chance to qualify, so I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of laps we can lay down in qualifying and regain that confidence that we need, not just here a Michigan, but everywhere to go out there and compete for wins. The team is working extremely hard to make those improvements and give me what I need to go out there and have confidence. And that’s really, to me, what we’ve been lacking a little bit of. The performance has not quite been there. The confidence has not quite been there. And it all comes together when you have those things. And it doesn’t happen overnight. But, one race can make a huge difference in getting you back there and I think this is definitely a track that can do that for us.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Michigan–Jeff Gordon

NO. 63 CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R WITHDRAWN FROM EVENT AFTER QUALIFYING ACCIDENT

LE MANS, France (June 11, 2015) – The No. 63 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R of Corvette Racing drivers Jan Magnussen, Antonio Garcia and Ryan Briscoe, has been withdrawn from this weekend’s 83rd running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans following an accident during Thursday’s first qualifying session.

A mechanical issue resulted in Magnussen losing control of the car in the Porsche Curves, damaging the front and rear of the Corvette C7.R beyond immediate repair.

After having been helped from the car by the ACO medical crews, Magnussen was sent to the track’s medical center for the standard series of checks. The driver was given the all-clear by the ACO medical staff.

The No. 63 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R is not repairable on-site; this marks the first withdrawal of a Corvette Racing entry at Le Mans.

“We are thankful that Jan has been checked and released by the ACO medical staff,” said Mark Kent, Director of Chevrolet Racing. “We are disappointed that the No. 63 Corvette C7.R will be unable to compete at Le Mans this year. The Corvette Racing team put a lot of work into preparing two C7.Rs for this event, and unfortunately only one will be in the race.”

TELL US THE EMOTIONS AND THE FEELINGS RIGHT NOW. IT HAS BEEN 69 RACES BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY SO DOMINATE SO MANY TIMES THIS YEAR – NOW IN VICTORY LANE:
“Well we finally got it. That is all I can say we finally got it. We have had a good run. We have had a great season. We have had everything it has taken to win races we just hadn’t got it done yet. I felt like we had the best car a few times today. I’m not sure we were. The No. 4 (Kevin Harvick) was really good at times and we were really good. It just takes a lot of things to go your way to pull these things together. Just can’t thank all my guys enough, Barney Visser, everybody at Furniture Row, everybody back in Denver for working so hard. This is a brand new racecar and they have been working really hard lately. Just proud of them and thankful to drive great racecars.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Pocono–Martin Truex Jr.

TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU EXPECT FOR THE RACE TODAY:
“Pocono has kind of turned into a track where I like coming to and seem to be always pretty quick whenever we come here. I got my first pole last year and this weekend I feel like we are pretty good. We were second quick in practice yesterday, second quick on the 20-lap average to (Kevin) Harvick. I’m hoping for good things today. I know it always changes in the race. There have been a lot of times where we have been really fast in practice and then kind of aren’t quite as good in the race. Hopefully today is a little different and we can have a good run. Just try and carry on our momentum from last week and get a good finish today.”

Scott Dixon Wins at Texas
Drivers of Chevrolet Aero Kit with Fully Integrated 2.2 Liter V6 Direct Injected Turbocharged Engine Finish 1-2-3-4 and Five of Top-Seven; Victory is Seventh of Season for Bowtie Brand

FT. WORTH (June 6, 2015) – Scott Dixon delivered his second win of the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series season in commanding style in the Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS). Dixon put his No. 9 Energizer EcoAdvanced Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet in the front of the field and held the lead for a race-high 97 laps on the way to his second win at TMS and the 37th of his career.

The three-time series champion sits third in the standings, 43 points out of the lead.

The win was the seventh of the season by drivers of the Chevrolet Aero Kit with fully integrated 2.2 liter V6 direct injected turbocharged engine.

“Congratulations to Scott Dixon and his Chip Ganassi Racing crew for a strong win tonight at Texas Motor Speedway,” said Chris Berube, Chevrolet Program Manager for Verizon IndyCar Series. “Scott had the right balance of set up, strategy and skill tonight in a race that ran the entire distance with only one yellow for debris. Toronto is next weekend where Scott has been quite successful. Coming off of a win like this will certainly be a positive boost for Scott and his Target team.”

Dixon’s teammate, Tony Kanaan, No. 10 NTT Data Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet, finished second. Helio Castroneves, No. 3 AAA Insurance Team Penske Chevrolet, finished third to make it an all-Chevrolet driver podium. Castroneves and Kanaan sit fourth and ninth in points, respectively. Series points leader Juan Pablo Montoya, No. 2 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, finished fourth.

Charlie Kimball, No. 83 Levemir FlexPen Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet, finished seventh. Defending series champion Will Power, No. 1 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, remains second in the standings after finishing 13th in tonight’s 248-lap/600K race on the 1.455-mile oval.

SCOTT DIXON, NO. 9 ENERGIZER CHIP GANASSI RACING CHEVROLET, RACE WINNER: “A lot of credit goes to the Team Target engineering group for the option that we went with which was on the high downforce level. Another big thanks needs to go to Team Chevy for giving us so many good options to run with and the power they’ve given us as well. Once we got the balance right and we got some front wing in the car with some tire pressure changes, the car was basically on rails. That allowed us to run up there with TK and really push him along. After that pit stop exchange, we were able to take the lead and the car was just fantastic in traffic. I think that was the key to winning this race. We found out last year that not being able to run well in traffic was a huge disadvantage, so we made sure to correct that for this year. It was just one of those nights where you get towards the end and you just hope that there wasn’t going to be any yellows. I knew we had a good car, we just had to get it dialed in. I can’t thank the crew enough. This Energizer car….I told you…we had a run with this thing where we would constantly win. I am just over the moon with it, over the moon.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Texas–Post Race

WILL POWER, NO. 1 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, POLE WINNER: “Yeah, I drew number one obviously this morning in the drivers meeting. I was a little worried about the conditions. It kind of stayed consistent over the whole run of qualifying.
I was really happy to get pole honestly. I felt if I could be in the top five, I’d be happy. Starting first, really happy about that.
The race, it’s going to be interesting. You know, you got all this stuff you can put on to add downforce if you want. But it’s quite draggy, so you lose a bit of speed.
It’s going to be about finding the right compromise for speed loss versus grip. I guess we’ll try some things tonight and see how it all stacks up. I think you’ll see a few different variations of what people bolt on as far as body kits go for the race.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Texas–Qualifying Notes
