Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Texas

SCOTT DIXON, NO. 9 ENERGIZER CHIP GANASSI RACING CHEVROLET, won the Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway. It is the 37th win of Dixon’s Verizon IndyCar Series career, his second of the 2015 season, the first at The Long Beach Grand Prix, and his second at Texas Motor Speedway – the first coming in 2008. He led a race-high 97 laps.

ON HIS RACE: “We made some big changes after the first stint. We had a lot of understeer. TK (Tony Kanaan, teammate) was fast. I knew we had a good car, we just had to get it dialed in. I can’t thank the crew enough. This Energizer car….I told you…we had a run with this thing where we would constantly win. I am just over the moon with it, over the moon.”

YOU TRIED TO GET THEM TO TAKE OFF DOWNFORCE BUT YOU DIDN’T WIN THAT BATTLE: “It is a good thing I didn’t. Everybody on the team…the engineers did a hell of a job to make that all. I’m just so happy.”

WE HAD TO SAVE TIRES: “We were trying anything. In the first part, I didn’t have enough to get around TK, so I was trying to push him there to try and break the gap to the Penske cars. Once we got into traffic, and once we got the car settled, it was all really good. I’m stoked. It is so good to have the Energizer car in Victory Lane again.”

TALK ABOUT YOUR PIT CREW: “They have done a fantastic job. In those stops we were making changes all night. That was the biggest thing of the night, we were just trying to keep up with the car and the track. They did a fantastic job.”

WAS IT AS EASY AS YOU MADE IT LOOK: “It is never easy. Even toward the second to last stint, we were still trying to make changes to the car. First part of the night, we had so much understeer in the Energizer car. Then as the night went on we put a little bit of front in and it started getting loose. In traffic we were really good. We took enough front end away that it enabled us to run really good speeds. Towards the end, the thing was just a rocket ship.”

HOW GOOD WERE THE TIRES? “This racing is great and I have to give Firestone a lot of credit. They give us a tire that is very durable; very safe. We don’t have blow-outs. We have nothing to worry about from that standpoint. Yes there was degradation, but that makes the racing fantastic. And that was what we had tonight. Whoever looked after their tires the best got to towards the end and were lapping.”
