ALEX BOWMAN, NO. 88 NATIONWIDE CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1, met with members of the media at Daytona 500 Media Day. Full transcript:

Are you tired of being compared to Dale (Earnhardt Jr.) and hearing about living up to expectations?
“It comes with the territory. Dale has been a big part of my career, left a huge mark on the sport and continues to influence the sport in a big way. I’m really blessed to be driving for Hendrick Motorsports and will do the best I can to keep this 88 up front.”

What would it mean to get your first win in the Daytona 500 in the 88?
“It would be really special to win the 500. I have a long day on Sunday to try to make that happen. We’ve been close to winning races with the 88 team before, so I know we can pick up where we left off and do it again.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Alex Bowman

IS THIS THE BEST CAR YOU’VE HAD?
“Yeah, I said that on Sunday. I would say the best I’ve had since I sat on the pole here when I didn’t know what the heck I was doing. The car that I had the first time I came here was really fast. I just didn’t know what to do with it. Now, I feel like I’m a little more experienced in the draft and feel more comfortable in the draft with a fast car. So, maybe we can do some damage come Sunday.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Austin Dillon

HOW IS LESSER NUMBER OF CREW OVER THE WALL GOING TO CHANGE THE DUALS ON THURSDAY
“I know we had some stops in the Clash, but I don’t think until you get into the (Daytona) 500 and other races that I think that will show more especially with having 40 cars in pit stops instead of 16. I think then there will be a big difference from what we had last year.”

WHAT ABOUT YOUR STOP IN THE CLASH?
“We didn’t make a rush stop. When we made our stop, we changed a lot of other stuff. We only made the one.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Jamie McMurray

Could you talk a little bit about how to someone who’s just like a casual NASCAR observer, who doesn’t really pay scant attention to the sport, might see you coming in and say, I wonder if they’re giving him a ride because of his heritage, where if they do their homework they’ll see you have won on all these levels.
“Yeah, that’s the gap we have to kind of bridge there. I kind of went on a hiatus these last three years just giving it my all and just coming up short in the XFINITY Series, and I think with the amount of coverage that I’m getting right now and the entourage that I have following, a lot of people expect, oh, who’s this kid coming up through with this media; he should be winning. And they don’t really pay enough attention to the sport to know the ins and outs to know that winning one of these races is not just a cake walk. It could be taken away from you in just a matter of seconds, inches. There’s that ‑‑ it’s hard to relay that message. It’s not ‑‑ like I’m saying, it’s not turn on the TV, oh, he’s running 15th. Well, that’s ‑‑ who is this kid. You’ve got to look at all the circumstances. You’ve got to look at what I’m going through that day, if we’ve missed the setup or even if we’ve had engine problems or something. That’s just something that’s just holding us back. Some of these days, some of those races I’m going to be running top 5 and I’ve got to be able to do the best at managing that. There’s going to be some weekends where I can’t find my way out of 20th or 15th. That’s just like everybody in the sport. We all have our good days, we all have our bad days. You’ve just got to capitalize on those good ones.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–Bubba Wallace

A lot of drivers have said you’re going to be the new most popular driver. When you hear stuff like that, how much is it a homage to your father’s legacy or your on-track performance?
“I appreciate the kind words, for sure. Nothing is ever for sure till it’s for sure, right?

“I think I just need to be me. Frankly, not to avoid your question, but it’s not really relevant to what I need to be focused on, right? I’ve encouraged people to pull for whoever they find value in pulling for, whatever they find a connection with. Whether that’s me or someone else, that’s their decision, right? KYLE LARSON: I don’t know, I was just talking to Jimmie about that a little bit, and we still don’t really know. We’ll see. I think it’s still so early with the bodies, but then again, the rules package, as well. I don’t know if it’s just the way that his setup was or my setup was where it got him turned sideways, but I know for a fact that we’re working on my setup stuff to make my car handle better, and hopefully allow me to push people a little easier, too. WILLIAM BYRON, NO. 24 AXALTA CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1, met with members of the media and discussed his outlook for the 60th Daytona 500 and the season. Full transcript:

YOU DO A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF IRACING. WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT TO YOUNG DRIVERS?
“I don’t know if it’s a platform to develop drivers. I think it’s more of something that if you use it the right way it’s a tool that you can use to improve your skills or you can start out and see where you stand. For me, I had not been in a racing family and did not have any connection with this, so iRacing was my chance to really see if I had any ability to drive a car. I think from that standpoint it’s a great starter for understanding if you do have some ability and seeing if that can translate, but as far as taking the application of a guy that wins on there and put him in an actual car it would be nice to see but I don’t know if everyone would have that translation. I think it’s a great simulation program and I certainly use it during the week to improve my skills.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Daytona Media Day–William Byron

WHAT DID YOU LEARN OUT THERE TODAY?
“That is the fastest we have been at a speedway in a while. The last two years we haven’t been able to compete like that. It feels really good to lead a couple of laps and dice it up. The handling got a little worse when we lost some of the track position, so we will work on that for the 500. But, very promising day for our DOW Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. I’m happy. We came out of there without a scratch on the car and we’ve got something for the 500, all my guys are excited.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Clash Post Race

POMONA, Calif. (Feb. 11) — Jeg Coughlin Jr. will have to wait until the fall to try for a seventh victory at historic Auto Club Raceway in Pomona after dropping a close Round 1 race to Elite Motorsports teammate Erica Enders.

Both Coughlin and Enders posted 6.59-second passes to kick-off the season-opening 58th Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com, but a slightly quicker start by Enders at the Christmas Tree — .018-second reaction time to Coughlin’s .031-second launch — earned Enders the win light.
