JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S CHEVROLET SS – Qualified 3rd
ON QUALIFYING:
“Yeah it’s such a tricky little place. I just seemed to get better as the day went on kind of finding my rhythm. I didn’t do much to the car it was really about me finding a half a tenth. It was really the smallest of margins that made the difference. That is the speed we ran in practice, which had us 11th or 13th or something and now it has us good enough for third. Just a very difficult feel and everybody is so stinking tight. So, glad that it worked out that is a great starting spot, great pit road pick. Definitely doing things and headed in the right direction.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Martinsville–Jimmie Johnson

PRO STOCK DRIVER DREW SKILLMAN, SKILLMAN RACING CHEVROLET CAMARO SS IS TOP QUALIFIER FOR PRO STOCK CLASS IN DAY ONE
(6.681 seconds, 204.94 mph)

DOES THE SUCCESS YOU ARE HAVING THE BACK END OF THE SEASON GIVE YOU A GOOD BASELINE GOING INTO THE NEXT YEAR?

“Absolutely. We had a rough start and the KB Racing guys just blew everyone away. But we are getting a good run now and starting to get a good handle on the car. We struggled at the beginning of the Countdown but things are headed in a little better direction now.”

WAS THAT THE NUMBER YOU THOUGHT YOU GUYS COULD RUN TODAY OR IS THERE MORE OUT THERE?

“You know, that was close to where I thought we might be. I thought maybe a .67 might be out there but we ran a .681 and we are happy.”

YOU MENTIONED THAT THERE WAS A BIT OF A SNAFU ON THE STARTING LINE, DID THAT EFFECT THE RUN AT ALL?

“Not really. Just didn’t make me feel super great. I had been trying to do something at staging (inaudible) and it was my fault and not his.”

YOU SAID FROM DALLAS YOU HAD FOUND SOME THINGS THAT HAD PLAGUED YOU, HAS THAT BEEN CONFIRMED BY THE PERFORMANCES THAT WAS WHAT IT WAS?

“Yeah, what we thought we were doing with fuel injection was working and it wasn’t. So that is where we focused things. We had the cars but we got stuck trying to chase the problem. We had pretty runs, but they just didn’t have the E.T. that they should and we knew from that.”

Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2016) – Dominic Scelzi endured a roller coaster ride during the 23rd annual Trophy Cup last weekend at Thunderbowl Raceway.

“It had its ups and downs,” he said. “It was probably the least eventful Trophy Cup I’ve been to. We were really fast when the track had moisture. When it went slick we couldn’t get the car on the race track. We probably changed setups as many times as we could. Every time we hit the track we got better, but it wasn’t until the B Main on Saturday that we got it running well on that type of a track.” Continue reading Scelzi Battles Throughout Challenging Trophy Cup

Chevrolet Drivers Seek Winning Hand in Las Vegas Round of the Countdown
Competitors in Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock Enter Penultimate Race of Season

DETROIT (Oct. 26, 2016) – Brittany Force acknowledges that her three Top Fuel victories and two runner-up finishes constitute a breakout National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) season. She’s reached numerous personal and team goals, with more attainable in the immediate future.

The fourth-year John Force Racing driver of the Monster Energy Chevrolet dragster is fourth in the NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship standings entering the NHRA Toyota Nationals this weekend at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

She’s 19 points out of third place and 41 points shy of second. Running the table in Vegas would be a springboard for an exciting conclusion to the season at the Auto Club NHRA Finals Nov. 11-13 at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California.

“I think doing well in Las Vegas will be a big factor for the championship,” said Force, who will compete in her 95th NHRA event. “Our goal is to have a chance to win the championship when we get to the Auto Club Finals in Pomona. We are going to do everything we can to be in a position where we can win. We go into every race thinking we can win and it starts with the first round of qualifying. This has been an amazing season and these last couple of races will be even more exciting with the championship on the line.”

Not since 1982, when Shirley Muldowney won her final Top Fuel championship, has a female Top Fuel racer finished higher than fourth in the standings.

In her past two races, Force advanced to her fifth final round of the season after qualifying a season-low 12th at Reading, Pennsylvania, and reached the quarterfinals at Dallas two weeks ago.

“We didn’t get the win but we got to the final and we are going to build on that. With two races left, that is what we need to keep doing, winning rounds,” said Force, who has generously topped her season mark for round wins. “I am confident in this Monster Energy team looking at these last couple of races. This is a new experience for me but I am surrounded by teammates and crew chiefs that have won championships and that gives me a lot of confidence.”

Chevrolet Pro Stock drivers hold all the aces heading into Las Vegas, led by points leader Jason Line in the Summit Racing Equipment Chevrolet Camaro SS. KB Racing teammate Greg Anderson (Summit Racing Equipment Chevrolet Camaro SS), a four-time Pro Stock champion who has won four times at Las Vegas, is 26 points arrears. Five more Chevy drivers follow in the standings.

“Our dream scenario — I don’t know if it will come true or not, but this is what we’re going to try to do — we’re hoping for both Jason and I to have a great race this weekend, put both cars in the final round and basically, mathematically eliminate the other cars from competition so when we get to Pomona so the two of us can duke it out amongst ourselves and have fun,” said Anderson, who has won seven times this season to tie Bob Glidden for second on the all-time Pro Stock victory list. “Will it happen? That’s a lot to ask, but that’s our goal.”

Line, an eight-time winner this season, already has surpassed Erica Enders’ 2015 Pro Stock record (for 24-race season) with 60 elimination round wins. Anderson, with 58 round wins, tied Enders’ mark at Dallas.

John Force Racing’s Robert Hight won the Funny Car division at Las Vegas in 2015. The driver of the Auto Club Chevrolet Camaro SS, who has been the No. 1 qualifier in two of the past three events, is sixth in the Countdown standings. Teammates Courtney Force (Traxxas Chevrolet Camaro SS), who is eighth in the standings, and John Force (PEAK Antifreeze & Coolant Chevrolet Camaro SS) also will be looking to close out the season on a high note. John Force wrapped up his record 16th NHRA Funny Car championship at Las Vegas in 2013.

Dan Fletcher and Jeff Strickland, winners earlier this season in their Chevrolet COPO Camaros, will lead Chevrolet drivers in Stock Eliminator this weekend. Dave Bridgewater, of Devore, California, will compete in Stock Eliminator and Super Stock in his Chevrolet COPO Camaros.

FOX Sports 1 will telecast three hours of live eliminations and finals at 4 p.m. ET Sunday, along with an hour of qualifying live at 6 p.m. ET Friday. FS1 will telecast taped highlights of qualifying at 10 a.m. ET Sunday.

Chevrolet will welcome fans to its Chevrolet Performance Display during the weekend. It will include a number of Chevrolet’s award-winning production vehicles, examples of Chevrolet engines, and a selection of performance parts and accessories that are available for fans to purchase from their local Chevrolet dealer.

CHEVROLET RACING ENGINEERING PREVIEW – NHRA TOYOTA NATIONALS
ROGER ALLEN, CHEVROLET RACING NHRA PROGRAM MANAGER: “Racing at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is always exciting, and even more so this weekend with the penultimate event of the NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship. Chevrolet Racing drivers in Top Fuel, Funny Car, and Pro Stock have provided many memorable moments — and victories — this season, and I know they all want to close out the season on a high note. We’ll be watching for more high levels of competition and drama on the fast racetrack.”

CHEVROLET FROM THE COCKPIT – NHRA TOYOTA NATIONALS
TOP FUEL:
BRITTANY FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, MONSTER ENERGY CHEVROLET TOP FUEL DRAGSTER: “I just try and not think about the pressure. My job is to just do what my crew chiefs tell me to do and not try and do anything different. This whole season has been a new experience for me and I am still learning. I still get butterflies but I think everyone does when you get into situations like this. This season I have learned to just relax and focus on doing the little things. My Monster Energy teammates have been very supportive all season and we are really working well together down this last home stretch.”

FUNNY CAR:
JOHN FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, PEAK ANTIFREEZE & COOLANT CHEVROLET CAMARO SS: “I don’t care what the math says. Until they tell me it’s impossible to win the championship this year I am going to fight with everything that I have to win it. I owe that to my fans, the sponsors and my teammates. We have been underdogs before and I guess I am an underdog for these last two races. I have the fire to win and I am going to give these races everything I have.”

COURTNEY FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, TRAXXAS CHEVROLET CAMARO SS: “There are two more races we can win this season. We have been to the finals three times this season and picked up a win in Houston. The definite highlight so far was winning that $100,000 in the Traxxas Nitro Shootout at the U.S. Nationals. I think this Traxxas Chevrolet team has a lot more round wins out there and we would love to get eight more round wins to end this season.”

ROBERT HIGHT, JOHN FORCE RACING, AUTO CLUB CHEVROLET CAMARO SS: “My goal every race is to come out every race and make strong runs on Friday to set up the rest of the weekend. We have been doing that pretty well in the Countdown this season with the exception of Reading. It is a big longshot for us to get the championship but we still have a mathematical shot. Stranger things have happened in the world of sports and we are just going to do our job. We need to get every qualifying bonus point and then win this race. We can’t start looking at what other people are doing. We can’t control that. Our goal is to go out and try and win this race and then see where we are heading to the Auto Club finals.”

PRO STOCK:
VINCENT NOBILE, MOUNTAIN VIEW RACING, MOUNTAIN VIEW TIRE CHEVROLET CAMARO SS: “Las Vegas has always been good to my team and I. We have five runners-ups here total. We are in the final two races of the Countdown and we would like to rebound from our showing in Dallas. If we want to win the championship, we basically need a miracle. So, with the task at hand this weekend is just to go qualify No. 1 and win the race. Las Vegas has always been on my bucket list of tracks to win at and my team and I are looking to hit the jackpot on Sunday.”

JASON LINE, KB RACING, SUMMIT RACING EQUIPMENT CHEVROLET CAMARO SS: “Obviously, we’re doing everything we can to make sure Team Summit wins in Las Vegas. We need to win the race. It is as simple as that. It’s super important to win this weekend to give us a better chance at winning the championship. We’re going there to win the race, that’s it.”

GREG ANDERSON, KB RACING, SUMMIT RACING EQUIPMENT CHEVROLET CAMARO SS: “We worked all season for this goal. We’ve won a lot of races this year and had a great season. As I said before, when you’ve had a year like this you don’t want to drop the ball at the finish line and have somebody pass you right at the finish line. So we need to finish strong.”

SHANE GRAY, GRAY MOTORSPORTS, VALVOLINE/NOVA SERVICES CHEVROLET CAMARO SS: “Certainly, we’d like to win these last two races. The car has been fantastic and we seem to be in the semifinals every race now, which puts us right there in the mix to win, we just need to punch through and get it done. We’ll just take it one run at a time, like always. We’ve been knocking on the door of a win for quite a while now and if we remain persistent and vigilant, we will break through, hopefully before the year is up.”

DREW SKILLMAN, RAY SKILLMAN RACING, RAY SKILLMAN AUTO CHEVROLET CAMARO SS: “We have struggled so badly with this race car. We were lost, and going into the Countdown. That’s the worst time of the year to be lost. We had some luck on our side (win at Texas). I drove decent, and the car at least went. We’re going the right direction, I think. We’re going to hit these last two races hard, so that’s where we’re going to go.”

BO BUTNER, JIM BUTNER AUTO, BUTNER AUTO SALES CHEVROLET CAMARO SS: “There are two races left to get our first win this season, and that is our goal. We’re been the runner-up, have a lot of round wins and have had good qualifying runs, but we haven’t gotten our hands on that Wally yet. That’s what we’re aiming for.”

F4 U.S. CHAMPION DAS ENTERED TO MAKE EUROPEAN FORMULA 3 DEBUT THIS WEEKEND

Cameron Das will compete for the BRDC British Formula 3 Autumn Trophy

INDIANAPOLIS (October 26, 2016)- Opportunities continue to unfold for Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda competitors. Inaugural F4 U.S. Championship titleholder Cameron Das of Brooklandville, Maryland, is slated to make his European racing debut Saturday during the BRDC British Formula 3 Autumn Trophy at the Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk, United Kingdom.

The one-off season closer allows teams to evaluate potential new drivers for the 2017 season, offers additional mileage for current BRDC British F3 drivers and permits drivers looking to get their first experience with the F3 car to enter.

“The competition here is really competitive. I’m very excited to be participating in this year’s Autumn Trophy,” Das said. “It’s been an easy transition for me from F4 to F3 with some minor challenges. F4 U.S. helped me improve my race craft and bridged the gap from karts to the higher downforce of the F3 cars. This series also uses Pirelli Tires which has made the learning curve a bit easier.”

Das, 16, was recruited by the UK-based F3 race team Carlin to compete this weekend and hopes that this opportunity will land him a permanent seat to race in the 2017 BRDC British F3 season.

Das takes on the challenges of Snetterton on Saturday and Sunday over the course of two qualifying sessions and four races. Event test days are scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

Timing and scoring for the event will be updated on BritishF3.com.

Timothy Peters
No. 17 Red Horse Racing
Toyota Tundra

This Week’s Toyota Tundra at Martinsville Speedway… Timothy Peters will pilot chassis No. 009 from the Red Horse Racing stable on Saturday in the Texas Roadhouse 200. This chassis was last raced by Peters at New Hampshire Motor Speedway to a fifth-place finish.

Peters at Martinsville… Peters has recorded 21 starts at Martinsville Speedway, including his first series start (spring 2005) and his first win (fall 2009). He also has seven top-five and 14 top-10 finishes. He has an average starting position of 9.5 and an average finishing position of 12.0.

Race Rewind: Talladega… Timothy Peters and the No. 17 Red Horse Racing team finished third at Talladega Superspeedway to secure a berth in the second round of the Chase for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Championship. In two rounds of single-truck, knockout qualifying on Saturday morning, Peters transferred to the final round and secured the sixth starting spot for the fred’s 250 with a lap of 53.982 seconds. Peters charge to the front of the field right off the bat, jumping to second place on the first lap. The Danville, Virginia native took the lead on lap 32 and led several laps until the caution flag flew. Crew chief Shane Huffman brought Peters to pit road for fuel only and the No. 17 returned to the track in the second position. He would pick up the lead again on lap 40 for several more laps, but a series of cautions and a slow pit stop would set him back in traffic. The series veteran made his way back to the top five, but a lack of drafting partner and a caution in the closing laps limited him to a third-place finish. Peters will enter the Chase Round of 6 as the third seed.

Timothy Peters Quote:
On racing at Martinsville Speedway…
“I always love going to Martinsville (Speedway), as it’s my home track. We’ve had a lot of success, so I’m hoping we can ride some of that momentum to start out this round of the Chase. Shane (Huffman, crew chief) and the guys have put together a great Toyota Tundra, and I’m ready to get locked in to that final four at Homestead.”

Matt Tifft
No. 11 Brain Gear/Surface Sunscreen
Toyota Tundra

This Week’s Toyota Tundra at Martinsville Speedway… On Saturday, Matt Tifft will race chassis number 025 in the Texas Roadhouse 200 at Martinsville Speedway. This chassis was last raced to a top-10 finish at Gateway Motorsports Park earlier in 2016.

Tifft at Martinsville… Tifft has two NCWTS starts at Martinsville, with two top-10 finishes and an average finish of 8.5.

BrainGear on the No. 11… BrainGear Performance Formula will be the primary sponsor on the No. 11 Toyota Tundra at Martinsville Speedway. BrainGear is the brain performance formula developed by top neurologists, scientists and industry experts that provides immediate focus, clarity and concentration while optimizing brain health and performance over time. What initially began as a brain performance formula for athletes, has now become the go-to for people who are full of relentless drive and devotion dedicated to performing at their best. Immediate benefits you can feel – long-term brain health benefits you can feel good about.

Race Rewind: Talladega Superspeedway… Matt Tifft capped off a stout weekend in his second appearance at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway with a ninth-place finish in the fred’s 250, his third top-10 finish of 2016. Tifft led his first-career laps in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on his way to advance Red Horse Racing’s No. 11 Toyota Tundra to the Round of 6 in the NCWTS Owners’ Chase. A delicate balance of patience and aggression kept Tifft in contention for the lead all afternoon, in addition to several strategy calls by crew chief Scott Zipadelli to preserve track position. After a fuel only stop on lap 16, Tifft continued his steady effort inside the top 10 until he had to return to pit road under yellow on lap 39 for a wedge wrench in the left rear, left after a pit stop the previous lap. A fuel only pit stop under the lap 52 caution put Tifft on the front row for a restart, where he would find his way to the race lead on lap 57. From a restart on lap 69 through the final stages, Tifft would valiantly lead the outside lane, but a lack of drafting help thwarted a bid for his first-career victory. Tifft took the checkered flag in ninth after a two-lap dash to the checkers, and advanced Red Horse Racing’s No. 11 team into the Round of 6 in the NCWTS Owners’ Chase.

Matt Tifft Quote:
On racing at Martinsville Speedway…
“It’s big for us to have the No. 11 in the Owners’ Chase for Tom DeLoach. We have a clean slate these next three races and there’s no better place to get our BrainGear/Surface Sunscreen Toyota Tundra locked into Homestead than this weekend at Martinsville. This is one of my favorite tracks and Red Horse Racing has had a lot of success here, so hopefully we can put together a good run and come out of there in a good position in the owners’ standings.”

Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (Oct. 25, 2016) – Giovanni Scelzi soaked in as much of his first appearance at the Trophy Cup as possible.

While the end result wasn’t what Scelzi desired, he said he gained a ton of knowledge and confidence during the 23rd edition of the marquee event hosted by Thunderbowl Raceway.

“It’s definitely something we can build on,” he said. “Getting on the fence, you run in as hard as you can. It’s being able to enter at the right angle, leaving your foot on the floor and trusting it. It’s one of the most difficult things I’ve done.”

Scelzi opened the event, which was only his second time at the tricky track, last Thursday by qualifying 22nd quickest in his group. He then placed fourth in a heat race before charging from 14th to a seventh-place result in a B Main, which was only three positions shy of transferring into the main event. “Qualifying put our night behind the eight ball, but I got to run 20 laps around Thunderbowl Raceway in the B Main so that was a plus,” he said. “I would have liked to make the feature to get more laps, but I felt like I improved throughout the night.”

That was evident from the start of Friday’s program, which Scelzi kicked off by qualifying 11th quickest in his group. He again finished fourth in a heat race before scoring a third-place result in a B Main to transfer into the back of the main event.

“I felt like from the first night to the second night I was so much more aggressive and being able to race around other cars,” he said. “It’s difficult for me to slide guys and make the right moves and not lose momentum, which are things that I’ll learn with more time in the seat.”

Scelzi then advanced from 21st to 17th place in the main event. Here is a link to watch the main event: https://youtu.be/TJb5kbwp8Us.

“The feature was pretty much one lane around the infield so there wasn’t much passing,” he said. “We were pleased with moving forward and getting more laps around that place. I think we’ll continue to show improvement with each race in Tulare.”

Unfortunately, the event wrapped up early for Scelzi, who was sidelined from Saturday’s finale because of a mechanical problem that developed during hot laps.
