SEPTEMBER 17, 2017

SIMON PAGENAUD, NO. 1 DXC TECHNOLOGY CHEVROLET – Race Winner:
YOU SAID YOU HAD TO DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. YOU WENT WITH A FOUR-STOP STRATEGY, AND YOU HAD TO WORK FOR THIS ALL DAY
“I’m exhausted. That was as hard as I could drive for 85 laps nonstop. I can barely lift my arms right now. But I want to thank everybody on the DXC Team. It was a phenomenal, I think, all weekend. I want to congratulate Josef (Newgarden, 2017 Champion) of course, and Team Penske. Our team this weekend and all season showed how strong everybody is at Team Penske. It’s been phenomenal. It’s a great testament to a great team spirit. I’m very happy for him. He deserves it. We did what we had to do. We tried. We won the race. It wasn’t enough. But it’s a whole championship. You’ve got to be strong at every race and I guess Josef was a little stronger this year. We’re going to come back. Thirteen points makes you come back for the competition again.”

THE TWO OF YOU WERE VERY CLOSE ON YOUR FINAL PITSTOP WHEN YOU EXITED. YOU WERE AHEAD ON COLD TIRES. HOW DIFFICULT? AND YOU HAD TO PROTECT BUT MAKE SURE THERE WAS NOT CONTACT
“Yes. When I was in a preferred position, I was ahead. The tires came up to temperature really quick and I was really pushing the envelope all day. It just worked out. The tires came up to temp pretty quick and I knew Josef wasn’t going to take too many risks, either. It was a little difficult with the backmarkers, because we couldn’t get up and going. But, overall, what a beautiful day.”

WHAT DO YOU PASS ON TO YOUR TEAMMATE ABOUT THE JOB YOU’VE DONE AND THE RESPONSIBILITY OF A CHAMPION?
‘Well, I think obviously it’s a very competitive championship. It’s very rare to see a domination for many years. We came up short this year, but we defended really well. I’m so proud of our guys. I think we represented really well. But overall, I think it’s a team effort. But I think he’s going to be a tremendous champion. He’s American, which is great for the sport. And, he’s a kid. And I’ll tell you what, he’s very smart already.”

An interview with Funny Car winner ROBERT HIGHT, JOHN FORCE RACING, AUTO CLUB OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (No. 6 qualifier; third victory of the season and third in event; 40th career win; takes top spot in Funny Car points):

Q: WHAT’S THE STORY ABOUT THAT FINAL AGAINST COURTNEY (FORCE)?
ROBERT HIGHT: You have nothing to lose it the final; you have to get after it. It was a good light and a good run. We hadn’t been in the left lane all weekend, and I was a little worried about that going into the final. That was a big run for us. What’s awesome is the lineup of drivers today that we beat. Every round we had a Countdown competitor. These Chevrolets are back. This is an unbelievable way to start the Countdown. Continue reading Chevy Racing–NHRA–Zmax Dragway

Austin Dillon Earns 16th-Place Finish at Chicagoland Speedway Despite Pit Road Speeding Penalty in the Dow Univar Chevrolet

“We had a really good Dow Univar Chevrolet, truthfully. It was a top five car but we got behind. It’s just frustrating. I put ourselves in a hole speeding on pit road and just trying to get too much. You talk about not making mistakes, and we made one. We were two laps down. We got one back. We were racing Kyle Busch in the No. 18 car for a long time, and he’s a hard one to beat for the Lucky Dog. I had him for a long time. But, there were just no cautions today. We needed more cautions. We’re not going to hang our heads. We’re going to pick ourselves up, go onto New Hampshire Motor Speedway and we’re going to be just fine.” Continue reading Richard Childress Racing–Tales of the Turtles 400

DESCRIBE YOUR RUN:
“Yeah, just a huge step in the right direction. Days like this are the days we are going to have to have. There is no way around that. I thought we had a solid day overall. Our car drove good, it had pace, our pit stops were good. I didn’t have anything for Martin (Truex, Jr.). I thought we made the most of our day without some luck I wasn’t going to get around him unless we had a late-race restart or something. I had a solid day and frankly, it is a lot better than we have been doing and we’ve got to have days like this to keep moving forward.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Chicagoland–Post Race
