Jeg Coughlin Jr. upsets world champ, improves an NHRA record, reaches quarterfinals
CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 25) — Jeg Coughlin Jr. made a little history Sunday in front of a sellout crowd at the 34th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals, beating reigning Pro Stock champion Bo Butner on a holeshot in the opening round of eliminations, which increased his record mark of professional holeshot wins to 101. He almost got No. 102 one round later but lost by three-thousandths of a second to teammate Alex Laughlin.

“I knew Bo would be tough,” Coughlin said. “Obviously, he’s our world champ from last season and with KB power they’re real tough. I figured I could help the cause with a good light and was able to get a nice jump on him there that ended up keeping us in front through the finish line. CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb 24, 2018) — The uncertainty that faced John Force Racing heading into the 34th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals has all but dissipated as the championship team heads into Sunday eliminations at the second of 24 races on the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park outside of Phoenix.

In the final round of qualifying, Courtney Force powered her Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car to the No. 1 qualifying position. Force’s stellar 3.826-second pass at 335.98 mph is her first No. 1 at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park and set both ends of the track record. CHANDLER, Ariz. (Feb. 24) — Jeg Coughlin Jr. saved his best qualifying pass for last, navigating Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in 6.553 seconds at 210.14 mph early Saturday evening to jump up to the 11th starting slot at the 34th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals.

“That final pass definitely felt much better,” Coughlin said. “It moved out to the left a little bit and I had to work to get it back in the groove but I could tell as soon as I let the clutch out this thing was screaming. It could have been even better but I hit the rev-limiter in the 4-5 gear change, which is a big no-no, because it’s like tapping the brakes, which you obviously don’t want to do. RYAN NEWMAN FASTEST IN THE FINAL PRACTICE SESSION AT ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY

HAMPTON, Ga. (February 24, 2018) – Yesterday, Ryan Newman placed his No. 31 Liberty National Camaro ZL1 on the outside pole for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500. Today, he clocked the fastest time in the final practice session.

“I feel like we’ve got a good car,” Newman said following the session. “I think for sure a top 10 car, maybe a top five car, but the Liberty National Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was good off the truck and with this whole one Happy Hour it kind of changes things a little bit in how you approach it. Just look forward to the race whenever we get to it, whenever Mother Nature allows us and feel like we will be plenty competitive, just got to put it all together.”

Newman led a contingent of four Camaro ZL1 drivers in the top 10 in the final session. Seven-time Cup Series champion, Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe’s for Pros Camaro ZL1 was sixth in the final session followed by Chris Buescher, No. 37 Louisiana Hot Sauce Camaro ZL1 in seventh and Darrell “Bubba” Wallace, No. 43 NASCAR Racing Experience Camaro ZL1 in 10th.

The Fold of Honor QuikTrip 500 start time has been moved up one hour and will now begin at 1:00 p.m., EDT with live coverage on FOX, PRN and Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.

CHANDLER, Ariz. — John Force Racing had it’s full fleet on the race track Friday at the 34th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals, the second of 24 races on the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule, at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park outside of Phoenix.

Top Fuel world champion Brittany Force returned to work in her Monster Energy Top Fuel dragster just 13 days after a crash at the season-opening Winternationals.

“It was ugly,” said Force of her Feb. 11 crash. “I was hurting for a few days but I feel good right now. I got in (the race car) yesterday. I think that was the best decision. Paul Menard and the No. 21 Moen Ford Fusion qualified in the 15th position for Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

At the first downforce track on the 2018 Monster Energy Cup schedule, Menard opened the day by posting the 15th fastest speed in practice with a lap at 183.765 miles per hour.

(February 23, 2018) – Ryan Newman put his No. 31 Liberty National Camaro ZL1 on the front row with a second-place qualifying run for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Round 2 of the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season. Newman ran a quick time of 30.062 seconds (184.419 mph) to earn the outside front row starting spot. Newman narrowly missed earning a record setting eighth pole at Atlanta. (February 22, 2018) – Just 12 days after a huge crash in the opening round of the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals, reigning Top Fuel world champion Brittany Force has been cleared and plans to race at this weekend’s NHRA Arizona Nationals at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park outside of Phoenix.

“I flew into Phoenix early this (Thursday) morning and headed straight out to race track to meet up with my team,” Force said. “I suited up and got belted back into my car that I ran all last season. It honestly felt good to be strapped back in and I was surprised how comfortable I was.
