An interview with Funny Car winner COURTNEY FORCE, JOHN FORCE RACING, ADVANCE AUTO PARTS CHEVROLET CAMARO SS (third win of season; 11th win of career; surpassed 175 career round wins; stretches points lead):

TALK ABOUT THE TURNAROUND FROM NO WINS IN 2017 TO THREE IN 2018
“It’s been really insane. I’m proud to be part of this Advance Auto Parts team. To be completely honest, everyone’s talking about the fact that we had so many No. 1 qualifiers but didn’t seal the deal. To be honest, I had such a great team and pretty much the same team as I do this year. Ronnie Thompson and Dan Hood tuning my car and getting us all those No. 1 qualifiers last year, and we came close to a couple wins. This year, Brian Corradi coming on board joining with Danny and a couple guys who came on our Advance Auto Parts team and things kind of shifted and we were able to get these No. 1 qualifiers and seal it off with a win. It feels amazing. Being in the points lead, coming off of back to back wins, it’s just insane. I got on my radio and told my guys that they are just unbelievable. It’s so much fun driving this race car and it’s been a handful out here this weekend. Coming to a track where the conditions have changed drastically every single day I have to give a lot of credit to my crew chiefs Brian Corradi and Dan Hood and every single guy on my team. It was a Sunday morning race that turned into a Sunday 7 p.m. race, cooler track, we were able to get it done even with a lucky first-round win having to pedal it down there. Lost lane choice in the second round. Still were able to turn the win light on and get lane choice back and make it a little bit longer weekend. Having to run on a Monday makes for a long weekend, but it feels good to be in the winner’s circle with my team and celebrate for everyone at Chevy and all our partners.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NHRA–Heartland Park–Courtney Force

COURTNEY FORCE AND ROBERT HIGHT ADVANCE TO SEMIFINALS AT POSTPONED MENARDS NHRA HEARTLAND NATIONALS

COURTNEY FORCE AND ROBERT HIGHT ADVANCE TO SEMIFINALS AT POSTPONED MENARDS NHRA HEARTLAND NATIONALS
TOPEKA, Kan. (May 20, 2018) — Eliminations at the Menards NHRA Heartland Nationals did not go on as scheduled. An extensive rain delay pushed the once slated 11 a.m. start to 7 p.m. and because of the late hour and weather conditions the nitro categories were only able to race through the quarterfinals. Semifinals and finals will be run on Monday morning beginning at 10 a.m. at Heartland Motorsports Park.

Courtney Force and Robert Hight will both be competing in the “Monday Nationals” after pedaling their ways out of the first round and then laying down impressive side-by-side runs in the quarterfinals. Brittany Force ran quickest of the weekend in the Top Fuel category but struggled to a quarterfinal exit and John Force, like Courtney and Hight, had to pedal it in round one but fell to Tommy Johnson Jr.

JEGS.com driver Troy Coughlin Jr. wins Cavalcade of Stars drag race in home state
NORWALK, Ohio (May 20) — Only a few races into his Top Alcohol Dragster career, Troy Coughlin Jr. drove the JEGS.com McPhillips Racing rail to the winner’s circle by dominating the Cavalcade of Stars presented by Budweiser Sunday in what was clearly the best car of the meet.

“Winning this race in this car with this team, right here in the great state of Ohio at this track, it just doesn’t get any better,” Coughlin said. “To be the No. 1 qualifier and convert that into a race win is very satisfying. I’ve known from the start this McPhillips Racing team was capable of winning and dominating like this and to have it come together after just a handful of starts says a lot about this tenacious crew.” Continue reading JEGS.com driver Troy Coughlin Jr. wins Cavalcade of Stars drag race in home state

YOU ARE ON THE POLE POSITION AGAIN HERE AT INDY. WHAT IS IT ABOUT THIS PLACE? DO YOU JUST GO HOME AT NIGHT AND DREAM ABOUT THIS PLACE BECAUSE YOU HAVE GOT IT COMPLETELY WIRED
“Most nights (laughs) to be honest. But, I’ve just got to thank my team. That first lap blew my mind. I figured we could run a 229 (mph) based on last night. My run last night actually wasn’t very good. The car wasn’t near as good as we’ve been. So, I knew had more left but I wasn’t expecting a 230 (mph), but the whole ECR team, especially the guys on my No. 20 car, they’ve put so much love into this car and it means everything to me to put us in a position like this. And to be able to share the top nine in this whole thing with Spencer (Pigot), his first time in the top nine with Preferred Freezer, and Danica (Patrick) with GoDaddy, we’re super happy to be here and obviously it couldn’t be possible without Fuzzy’s Vodka. Hopefully we can keep doing this a long time.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Indianapolis Fast Nine

GOLOBIC STEALS PETER MURPHY CLASSIC AT TULARE

(5/19/18, Tulare, CA – Jim Allen) … Shane Golobic pulled off a dramatic late race pass of Kyle Hirst and Bud Kaeding to steal Saturday’s 30-lap Peter Murphy Classic in King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Sprint Car Series action at the Thunderbowl Raceway.

Golobic, who started 12th in the grid aboard the Tarlton Motorsports Tachi-Palace KPC, methodically maneuvered his way through the field into third place on a “rubber-down” dirt track with only four laps remaining. However, it was a caution flag on the final lap that provided the opportunity to score the victory. On the green-white-checkered restart, Golobic proceeded to motor past both race leader Hirst and Kaeding going down the backchute to take the point. Menard Finishes Fourth In Monster Energy Open

May 20, 2018

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Knauf team didn’t advance out of Saturday’s Monster Energy Open into the All-Star race, but they did do a commendable job of helping showcase a new set-up package for the Monster Energy Cup Series cars.

For the All-Star weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the cars were equipped with an aerodynamic package that significantly increased downforce. That was accompanied by restrictions on the engines that drastically reduced horsepower. Continue reading Menard Finishes Fourth In Monster Energy Open

Austin Dillon and the Dow Racing Team Earn 12th-Place Finish in All-Star Race

“What a race! I had a blast out there tonight, and I hope it was as fun to watch as it was to drive. Throughout the race, we made quite a few adjustments to the Dow Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. With limited practice and this being the first time we have raced this package, we were a little off on the setup. We got it pretty close, though. At the end, we opted to pit. Looking back, it’s a toss up on whether that was the right call or not. But I’m excited to return next weekend and defend our Coca-Cola 600 win.”
