CHEVROLET RACING IN THE VERIZON INDYCAR SERIES
102ND RUNNING OF THE INDIANAPOLIS 500
INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
TEAM CHEVY DRIVER POST QUALIFICATIONS DAY 2 QUOTES (STARTERS 10 THROUGH 27)
MAY 20, 2018

TONY KANAAN, NO. 14 ABC SUPPLY AJ FFOYT RACING CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 10TH : “What a great effort as a team. A.J. (Foyt) and Larry (Foyt) put so much effort into this over the winter. They gave us everything I asked and they stepped up. I have a brand new car for this race, Matheus (Leist) has a brand new car. They spent every single dime to give us a good car. We’re a little team but we’re having a lot of fun. This is for them. I told them today our pole is going to be 10th. This is pole in my books.”

MATHUES LEIST, NO. 4 ABC SUPPLY AJ FOYT RACING CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 11TH: “”The car has been pretty good since the beginning of the week. We’ve had strong pace here. I’m so happy for the guys. Hopefully we can start up front and then end up at front. I love this place. Last year I won my first race in Indy Lights here and we’ll see how the Indy 500 is going to be now.”

CHARLIE KIMBALL, NO. 23 FIASP CARLIN CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 15TH : “All week we’ve been trying to be as methodical as possible, preparing for the stress and the pressure of yesterday. And then, having gone through the qualifying process here at Indianapolis we doubled our experience today. We were just trying to maximize and optimize what we have, not take any big risk, just trying to be smart. The car moved around more than I was expecting, but nothing particularly uncomfortable on that run. I’m just really proud of these Carlin guys from where they were before the winter, two cars in the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile race is huge credit to them. I’m just excited about the 23 Novo Nordisk team for next week.”

KYLE KAISER, NO. 32 NFP/JUNCOS RACING CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 17TH: “What an amazing day. The wind picked up on that run, making it a little tricky, but I’m having a great time. With these hot temperatures, it was a really tough read on the rear. I was sliding around because of the lack of grip. The front also was not super strong as the run went on. I got a little close to the walls, but we kept it off of them and we’re qualified so I’m very happy.”

JAMES DAVISON, NO. 33 JONATHAN BYRD’S 502 EAST FOYT WITH BYRD/HOLLINGER/BELARDI CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 19TH : “It’s just another rewarded for this AJ Foyt/Byrd/Hollinger/Belardi team after making the show yesterday to then have an increase in performance that we weren’t particularly expecting. Those days are always fantastic in this sport., I’m really proud to be a part of this team. We’ve had some adversities and not all the car speed we’ve wanted, but just to be in the Indy 500 is a blessing. I look forward now to getting on with the race preparations.”

MAX CHILTON, NO. 59 GALLAGHER CARLIN CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 20TH: “Our car all month has been pretty decent with its pace not going off. We’ve had a really consistent car. Not the quickest, but very good over four laps. That was our first ever time here with Carlin. We’re in the race, and as I know from last year I was one lap down 30 in it and I ended up leading more laps than anyone. This is all about being in the front with 10 to go.”

GABBY CHAVES, NO. 88 HARDING GROUP CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 22ND: “”We took a big swing at it overnight to get some speed. I think we found a lot of speed but it was undrivable, so then we had to go back to sort of a know quantity and the balance was just a little bit off it it kind of hurt us. To be fair, I think the car has been pretty good all month. We just have to make it good for the race and go to the front.”

SAGE KARAM, NO. 24 WIX FILTERS DRR CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 24TH: “We ran more downforce yesterday, didn’t really have speed so we took some away today and were slower. This new car is just tricky. I don’t think it really mattered if I was going to qualify 10th or 30th. It’s going to be a difficult race because it’s going to be difficult to pass. I’m just going to have good pit stops and try to get up to the front. We’ll have to find a way to get up there. We have a lot of work to do. Our race cars are always better than our qualifying cars. The DRR boys always do a great job on the race cars, so I’m not worried I’ll have good pace on the long runs.”

JR HILDEBRAND, NO. 66 SALESFORCE DRR CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 27TH: “We were able to have a real consistent run, but I think the 66 boys deserved to see the car go a little quicker today. Bummer with the conditions, the new car, we’re the only part-time team here. There’s a lot to take in. I’m sure a little bit of it is right out of the car frustration and not seeing the speed pop up on the dash. It is frustrating, but hopefully we can get out and end up with a good race car at the end of the day tomorrow. That will make us feel a lot better.”
