Brian Scott and the No. 2 Smokey Mountain Herbal Snuff Chevrolet Camaro qualified seventh for Sunday afternoon’s NASCAR Nationwide Series Get to Know Newton 250 presented by Sherwin Williams. Scott was happy with his green machine during the 250-lap event only battling minor tight conditions. A stop on pit road during the lap 141 caution gained the Smokey Mountain team four spots moving them from seventh to third. Scott battled for the front running positions, but found better speed on long green-flag runs. When the checkered flag flew at Iowa Speedway, Scott was scored sixth. He earned his second top-10 finish at the 7/8-mile track and remains sixth in the driver point standings.

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“My Smokey Mountain Herbal Snuff team did awesome all weekend. Our Camaro was good and our guys on pit road were good. I just couldn’t get it done on short runs. We were definitely a long-run car today. I was hoping it would’ve gone green to the end, but we might have been short on fuel. I’m really happy with how things went today.”

Ty Dillon Finishes Eighth in the Get to Know Newton presented by Sherwin Williams 250 at Iowa Speedway

Ty Dillon drove the No. 3 WESCO Chevrolet Camaro to an eighth-place finish on Sunday afternoon recording his seventh top-10 finish of the season. Dillon qualified 13th and quickly drove his Camaro inside the top-10. By lap 49, he was running in seventh place after gaining two positions on a four-tire and fuel pit stop. Several times Dillon and crew chief Danny Stockman called for adjustments on the radio to improve the Camaro’s handling because Dillon reported both tight-handling and loose- handling conditions. By the race’s final restart on lap 228, Stockman felt his team had made the right adjustments, and he was right. Dillon drove past four cars and earned an eighth-place finish as he crossed the finish line. The 22-year-old, Welcome, N.C.-native was the second Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender to cross the finish line and moved up one position in the driver point standings to fourth place.

We worked hard with what we had and I definitely learned a lot about the track and our car. I’m looking forward to getting to Charlotte this week and building on our progress”

Cale Conley Earns a 30th-Place Finish after a Tough Day at Iowa Speedway

The 22-year-old West Virginia-native took the green-flag from the 21st position and immediately reported to crew chief Nick Harrison his IAVA Chevrolet was extremely loose. On lap 39, Conley cut a right front tire down, thus causing him to bring his Camaro to the attention of his crew.  The No. 33 team went to work fixing damage on pit road suffered by the incident. The IAVA driver returned to the track several laps down,to solider on and salvage the best finish he could. When the checkered lag flew, Conley was scored with a 30th-place finish.

Ryan Newman Records 16th-Place Finish in CAT/Quicken Loans Chevrolet in Sprint All-Star Race

Ryan Newman drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 31 CAT/Quicken Loans Chevrolet SS to a 16th-place finish in Saturday night’s 90-lap exhibition event at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The South Bend, Ind., driver started 21st as a result of the evening’s unique qualifying effort that consisted of three laps and a four-tire pit stop. The first 20-lap segment showed Newman in 15th position, but a two-tire service during the break catapulted the No. 31 Chevrolet to third position. Then six laps into the second segment, Newman dodged a wreck triggered by the No. 18 machine. Crew chief Luke Lambert called his driver onto pit road two times for a four-tire service and then repairs to the front nose. When the second segment ended, the No. 31 raced in 12thand a fast pit stop completed by The CAT/Quicken Loans crew enabled Newman to restart in 10th position. Newman dodged another close call one lap into the fourth segment when the three cars collided. On lap 67, the race returned to green and the No. 31 driver climbed to eighth but lost track position when he made contact with the wall on lap 69. Less than 10 laps later, a tire cut down ending Newman’s night. Up next for the No. 31 team is the sport’s longest race of the season, the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE:
“If we are going to have a bad night at Charlotte Motor Speedway, I’d rather it be this race than the Coca-Cola 600. It’s a shame. the entire CAT/Quicken Loans team wanted to win the $1 million. This race is so much fun and carries a lot of bragging rights for the year. I thought our car was capable of a top-five finish. We didn’t have the qualifying effort like we were expecting. I slid through our pit stall. I’ve never done that before but I wasn’t too concerned considering I have won this race from the back before. We started off a little too tight but all and all, it wasn’t all that bad. I think we’ve learned a few things tonight, so I’m looking forward to next week.”

Menard started the 400-mile event from the 16th position and lost significant track position due to a loose-handling condition which caused the No. 27 Schrock / Menards Chevy to go one lap down. Crew Chief Slugger Labbe directed the team to make adjustments to tighten the car up during a green-flag pit stop on lap 37. The Eau Claire, Wisc. driver raced back onto the lead lap. On lap 186, a car spun on the track beneath Menard’s car causing slight damage to bring out the caution flag. The No. 27 pit crew made several adjustments to the car under caution. “Today wasn’t what we were hoping for at Kansas Speedway. The Schrock / Menards Chevy was loose all night and we made a lot of adjustments to tighten it up. We finally got what we needed and were able move our way through the field. There was a wreck we were almost caught up in but luckily we got out with minor damage. The guys did a great job on pit road all night making adjustments and getting us where we needed to be. Now it’s on to Charlotte.”

Ryan Newman Records 11th-Place Finish in Kwikset Chevrolet at Kansas Speedway

Ryan Newman drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 31 Kwikset Chevrolet SS to an 11th-place finish in Saturday night’s 267-lap event at Kansas Speedway. The South Bend, Ind., driver started seventh as a result of Friday’s knockout qualifying session. After a 20-minute delay due to severe weather near the track, Newman fired up the engine to race in the top 15 during the opening laps. His only real complaint to crew chief Luke Lambert was a loose-handling condition through the corners. The Kwikset crew serviced the No. 31 Chevrolet several times to enable Newman to run competitively and in or around the top 10. The team’s final service for gas, two fresh right-side tires and a chassis adjustment took place with 29 laps to go. With fuel mileage out of the equation, Newman set his sights on a strong finish in the remaining circuits and crossed the finish line in 11th place. The result moved Newman up a spot in the driver championship point standings to eighth place. Up next for the No. 31 team is Saturday’s exhibition race, the NASCAR Sprint All-Star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Start – 7th           Finish – 11th                    Laps Led – 0                Points – 8th

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE:
“Tonight we were strong in the corners, but struggled in the straight-aways. We had the same issue yesterday in qualifying, but it was much more noticeable during the race. I’m not sure if we missed something or what. It was a decent run overall for the Kwikset Chevrolet. I wish we could have run better for them. We strive to be better than that so we will keep working hard to put this team in winning contention.”

Austin Dillon Survives Superspeedway Racing at Talladega Superspeedway with Top-15 Finish

Despite incurring damage to the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet during an on-track incident with less than 10 laps remaining in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway, Austin Dillon and the Richard Childress Racing team persevered to earn a 15th-place finish in their second restrictor-plate race of the season. Dillon started the 500-mile event from the fifth position and raced anywhere from fifth to 30th in the 43-car field as the field choreographed in two-, three-, four- and even five-wide packs. Dillon made routine pit stops during the 188-lap race, noting that his Chevrolet handled perfectly during the initial run before switching to loose following a wedge adjustment during the middle portion of the race. On lap 176, a car spun on the track triggering a multi-car incident that collected Dillon’s No. 3 Chevrolet and brought out the caution flag. Crew chief Gil Martin directed the Welcome, N.C. driver down pit road so the RCR team could make repairs to the front end of the car, change all four tires and add fuel. Dillon restarted 29th with eight laps remaining. The rookie of the year contender survived two additional cautions to finish 15th.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“What a race. We were two- and three- wide the entire time. I thought we would be able to make more of a charge for it at the end, but it was hard after we were collected in the wreck. It was hard to get going in some of those lines today. I really want to thank Johnny Morris and Bass Pro Shops. It was a fun day, that’s for sure. I really have to give props to RCR and ECR for all of the teamwork this weekend. That was just awesome to see everyone working together on Saturday during qualifying.”

The Eau Claire, Wisc., driver started second after the 2.66-mile track’s first knockout qualifying session on Saturday. Menard raced in the top-10 for 24 laps of competition, leading nine of those laps. Menard was caught up in a wreck on lap 137 causing only cosmetic damage. After several stops to repair the car ,Menard was able to race his way back in to the top-15 with 16 laps to go. One final caution flag fell on lap 182 and when the green flag waved, the No. 27 powered to the top-10 resulting in a hard-fought, sixth-place finish. Menard moved up one spot to 17th in the driver championship point standings. Up next for the No. 27 team is Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Kansas Speedway.

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“We started second today at Talladega and had a really strong run going. Our momentum broke when we were caught up in a wreck, but that’s Talladega. The boys worked really hard on pit road and did a great job keeping us up front. The Richmond/Menards Chevy was fast all day, so we knew it was possible to still have a strong finish. I’m proud of the team for bringing it home sixth. ‘Never give up’ is what we’re standing by this season.”

Ryan Newman finishes 18th at Talladega Superspeedway

Under a cloudless sky on Sunday afternoon at Talladega Superspeedway, Ryan Newman and the No. 31 CAT Chevrolet team started sixth in the Aaron’s 499. A few laps after the initial green flag  waved for the 188-lap race, Newman opted to drop towards the rear of the field and take a conservative approach to the restrictor-plate track. The Luke Lambert-led crew made four- and two-tire pit stops, taking on fuel and making minor adjustments during routine pit stops under caution periods for single-car incidents and debris. A multi-car wreck on lap 140 caused slight damage to the left-rear tire well of the team’s Chevrolet SS, which the crew was able to repair during yellow-flag pit stops. On lap 182, the No. 99 car spun in front of Newman and went to the outside before sliding down the track. Unfortunately, Newman didn’t have time to stop or room to go around him and ended up tagging him with the nose of his Chevrolet. Several stops under yellow for repairs kept Newman on the lead lap. Newman was scored in the 26th place when the green flag waved for the 186th circuit. He made a late-race charge to finish 18th. Newman remains ninth in points as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Kansas Speedway for a Saturday night race.

Start – 6th          Finish – 18th     Laps Led – 1     Points – 9th

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE:
“We went with the conservative approach for most of the race and it worked to our advantage. Towards the end, cautions started to pile up and we got caught up in two of them and it hurt our car, but not to the point where we couldn’t be competitive. At the end, we just did the best we could to get the finish we had. The guys on pit road did a great job all day and Luke [Lambert, crew chief] did a great job making the calls on the pit box.”

Ty Dillon Finishes 15th in Aaron’s 312 at Talladega Superspeedway

Ty Dillon drove the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats Chevrolet Camaro to a 15th-place finish Saturday afternoon at Talladega Superspeedway. After getting tangled in a mid-race wreck that left significant damage to the Camaro’s front end. Dillon, who qualified seventh, managed to lead three laps before getting into the wall on lap 64 in Turn 3.The incident also involved Richard Childress Racing teammates Brendan Gaughan and Brian Scott. The No. 3 team managed to fix the left-front fender, where most of the damage occurred, and kept Dillon on the lead lap. Although the 22-year-old rookie drifted away from the leaders, he caught a break four caution flags later allowing the team to regain track position. During the race’s final restart on lap 113, Dillon kept his No. 3 Chevrolet in the draft and ultimately finished 15th. The NASCAR Nationwide Series returns on May 18 for the Get to Know Newton 250 presented by Sherwin Williams at Iowa Speedway.

Start – 7th   Finish – 15th    Laps Led – 3    Points – 5th

Ty Dillon Quote:
“We had a pretty good finish after the wreck on lap 64. It’s the nature of this racetrack, we gamble for track position and sometimes lose. But, I’m proud of how we responded and how our guys handled the situation; they didn’t give up.”

Brendan Gaughan Finishes 34th at Talladega Superspeedway

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet Camaro started from the 11th position in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Talladega Superspeedway. The Las Vegas-native used the beginning laps to gain valued information about the No. 62 Chevrolet Camaro. During the first caution on lap 29, the Richard Childress Racing team did not pit with the leaders holding off until the next round of caution pit stops. This earned Gaughan one bonus point for leading a lap. After the caution, the driver of the No. 62 Chevrolet fought through the field and raced to the third position on lap 58. Gaughan’s day ended early when he was involved in a wreck on lap 63 that left the No. 62 Camaro beyond repair to continue. Thus, the team was forced to take a 34th-place finish and Gaughan remains seventh in driver point standings.

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“This was just a result of restrictor plate racing at Talladega Superspeedway. Richard Childress Racing gave me one heck of a Chevrolet today. We went from the back of the pack to the front by racing on the outside line. Running the outside at Talladega is challenging, you have to know how to maneuver, side draft and fill gaps. To me, it looked like someone left too big of a gap, another driver went to fill it and we got caught up and involved.”

Austin Dillon Earns a 27th-Place Finish at Richmond International Raceway

Austin Dillon earned a 27th-place finish in Richard Childress Racing’s Dow Chevrolet on Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway after struggling with handling issues for a majority of the 400-lap event. The Welcome, N.C. driver started the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race from the 27th position after inclement weather on Friday evening caused NASCAR officials to set the starting lineup according to first practice speeds. He reported a tight condition in the center of the corners during his initial run, prompting crew chief Gil Martin to instruct the RCR pit crew to service the No. 3 Chevrolet with four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment during a competition caution on lap 40. As the race progressed, handling switched from tight to loose as rubber built up around the 0.75-mile oval. Martin & Co. attempted to alleviate the handling issues Dillon faced through a variety of chassis adjustments during several routine four-tire pit stops. Dillon fell two laps down to the race leader, but survived numerous late-race restarts to finish 27th.

“We’ve had a couple of pretty good finishes recently in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series but unfortunately, this wasn’t one of them today. Paul Menard Finishes 24th at Richmond International Raceway

Paul Menard started ninth in the No. 27 CertainTeed/Menards Chevrolet in Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway. Menard was a mainstay in the top-10 during the initial run of the 400-lap race, dropping to the 11th spot just before a pre-determined competition caution on lap 40. After taking four tires, fuel and making adjustments to fix a loose-handling condition, Menard had a new issue effect his performance. He reported the front end would not respond when he went through the turns as he fell to 24th in the running order and one lap down to the leader.  Through several more pit stops in the 400-lap race, the No. 27 crew continued to make adjustments to help gain positions. The team took advantage of a “wave around” under caution on lap 371 to get back on the lead lap. However, the left-front tire started to lose pressure in the final laps forcing Menard to nurse the car to the checkered flag in 24th place. He is 18th in the driver’s points standings as the Sprint Cup Series heads to Talladega Superspeedway this coming weekend.

Start – 9th        Finish – 24th    Laps Led – 0    Points – 18th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“We started out pretty good and the car just would not turn after the competition caution. We kept trying to make adjustments to improve through the turns, but they didn’t turn out the way we wanted. I thought the ‘wave around’ was going to help us out, but then that tire started to go down and I just had to nurse it to the end. Our finish wasn’t for lack of effort, that’s for sure.”

Ryan Newman Collects Second-Straight Top-10 Finish at Richmond International Raceway

Ryan Newman drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 31 Quicken Loans Chevrolet SS to an eighth-place finish in Saturday night’s 400-mile event at Richmond International Raceway. The South Bend, Ind., driver started 18th after rain washed out Friday’s qualifying session and forced the lineup to be set by the rulebook. Within the first 100 laps, Newman drove into the top 10 despite battling a tight-handling condition through the corners. The Luke Lambert-led team pitted several times under caution to free up the No. 31 Chevrolet and by lap 300, Newman raced into the top five and within striking distance of the leader. One final caution flag fell on lap 385 to place Newman in the outside line in sixth position. On the restart, the No. 31’s line stalled resulting in a hard-fought eighth-place finish. The result was Newman’s second-straight, top-10 finish and fourth of 2014. Newman remains ninth in the driver championship point standings. Up next for the No. 31 team is Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Talladega Superspeedway.

Start – 18th            Finish – 8th             Laps Led – 0          Points – 9th

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE:
“We battled a tight-handling condition throughout the race and Luke (Lambert, crew chief) did a good job keeping up with the way the track changed. By the end of the night, we had a Chevrolet challenging for the win. Our biggest problem was the restarts. We seemed to find ourselves in the wrong line. We’d try to get a good restart, but a car in front of us would spin their tires and cut off all our momentum. Had we had a long run at the end, we may be in victory lane right now. We had one of the fastest cars on 40 and 50-lap, green-flag runs. Here’s hoping we can carry the momentum of the last two races into Talladega. That superspeedway hasn’t been too kind to me, so hopefully me and my RCR team can start a new trend together.”

Brian Scott Earns First Top-Five Finish of Season at Richmond International Raceway

In his 150th NASCAR Nationwide Series start, Brian Scott and his No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet Camaro started from the first position at Richmond International Raceway, his second-career pole at the 0.75-mile short track. Scott led the opening 43 laps of competition, after nearly a three-hour rain delay, in the 250-lap race. Initial reports were the Camaro was a little free, but more importantly the team needed to make adjustments to conserve the right-front tire. Scott settled inside the top-five for the majority of the race taking home a fifth-place finish. This is Scott’s highest finish and first top-five earned of the season. Scott remains sixth in the driver championship point standings heading into Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday.

Start – 1st         Finish – 5th       Laps Led – 45   Pts – 6th

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“I think we had a third-place car tonight. I’m really proud of our effort on the No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet Camaro team. This isn’t the finish we wanted. We have to clean up our errors and be on the money when it counts.”

Ty Dillon Finishes 13th in Rain-Delayed Richmond 250

Ty Dillon drove the No. 3 WESCO Chevrolet Camaro to a 13th-place finish at Richmond International Raceway pn Friday night, after a three and a half hour rain delay. After qualifying 11th , Dillon and the No. 3 team were forced to wait out heavy thunderstorms that rolled through the area. When the green flag finally dropped at 10:26 p.m. ET, Dillon quickly raced his No. 3 Camaro inside the top-10 before the competition caution on lap 40. During the race’s longest green-flag run (laps 47-149), Dillon made five-quality passes cracking into the top-five on lap 99. The 22-year-old driver, making his third-career NASCAR Nationwide Series start at the 0.75-mile track, battled around the top-10 until the race’s final restart on lap 204. Dillon fought with the car’s rear handling, ultimately forcing him to finish 13th overall.

Start – 11th    Finish – 13th     Laps Led – 0      Points – 4th

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“I don’t think our finish indicated how good our car was throughout the race. We had one of the fastest cars on the track for a good part of the race, but struggled to finish. It’s frustrating because I know Danny (Stockman, crew chief) and the guys worked hard to adjust to the changing track conditions. I’m thankful for all the fans that stuck around to watch the race after the long delay.”

Cale Conley Earns a 15th-Place Finish at Richmond International Raceway

Cale Conley brought the No. 33 OKUMA America Chevrolet home to a 15th-place finish at Richmond International Raceway in the Richmond 250. The 21-year-old Richard Childress Racing driver took the green flag from the 17th spot, but fought a tight handling condition in the early stages of the 250-lap affair. The field slowed when NASCAR displayed a competition caution at lap 40, allowing Conley to bring his car to the attention of the crew for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. Green-flag racing resumed on lap 47 with Conley in the 27th position. The race set in for a lengthy green-flag run which played into the No. 33 driver’s hands as he picked off the competition climbing as high as seventh. Conley continued to battle hard for position and ultimately took the checkered-flag in the 15th position.

Start – 17th        Finish – 15th     Laps Led – 0    Points – N/A

CALE CONLEY QUOTE:
“It seemed like a long race. At one point, we were really stout and able to climb inside the top-10. We were really tight through the center of the corner and were never able to overcome that condition and somehow gained a loose condition as the run wore on. It took long runs to recover on the restarts and we never got them at the end of the race. We’ll go back to the shop and learn from this. I can’t thank OKUMA America enough for being on board, and I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel at Iowa Speedway.”

Brendan Gaughan Finishes 20th at Richmond International Raceway

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet Camaro qualified 22nd for Friday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Richmond International Raceway. After patiently waiting out the more than three hour rain delay, Gaughan took the green flag and battled through the field and advanced his position to 13th by lap 58. The Richard Childress Racing team was forced to make a premature stop on lap 101 when Gaughan reported the right-front tire was starting to go down. The No. 62 Chevrolet Camaro fought all night to improve the handling of the race car. The Las Vegas native was nursing a right-front tire near the closing laps and was able bring home a 20th-place finish for the No. 62 team. Brendan Gaughan remains seventh in driver championship point standings heading in to next week’s race at Talladega Superspeedway.

Start – 22nd       Finish – 20th    Laps Led – 0      Points – 7th

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“Definitely not the finish we were hoping to go home with tonight. The No. 62 team and I were looking to rebound back after our Darlington finish, but instead we will keep pushing forward and improve at Talladega.”

Austin Dillon and No. 3 Dow Chevrolet Team Finish 11th at Darlington Raceway

Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon started the No. 3 Dow Chevrolet from the 20th position and ultimately earned an 11th-place finish in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series’ Southern 500 on Saturday evening. The Welcome, N.C., driver worked with crew chief Gil Martin to report changes to the car’s handling throughout the course of the 374-lap race. Numerous pit stops provided the RCR team an opportunity to fine-tune the No. 3 Chevrolet. During the middle portion of the race, Dillon was racing for position when he made contact with a lapped car that was attempting to race the lead lap cars. It caused right-side fender damage. Dillon pitted when the caution flag was displayed on lap 223, allowing the RCR team to make repairs to the fender. Dillon restarted 19th when green-flag racing resumed. He fell one lap down during a long green-flag run in the closing laps of the event, but put himself in the “lucky dog” position and earned his lap back when the caution flag was displayed with 11 laps remaining. After pitting for four tires and fuel, Dillon restarted in the 14th spot on the lead lap when green-flag racing resumed with six laps remaining. He survived a total of two attempts at a green-white-checkered-flag finish to earn an 11th-place result in his first NSCS race at Darlington Raceway.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“Wow, I feel like we’ve finished 11th so many times this year (laughs). We’re certainly on the cusp of finishing within the top-10. We’ll take it. We worked hard tonight and I’m learning each week. I can’t wait to come to Darlington Raceway, and all of these tracks on the schedule, for the second and third times. We will be a very tough team the second half of this season. I’m proud of everyone on this Dow Chevrolet team.”

Paul Menard Relegated to 41st-Place Finish at Darlington Raceway
after On-Track Incident

Paul Menard was forced to take a 41st-place finish in Saturday night’s 500-mile event at Darlington Raceway in Richard Childress Racing’s No. 27 CertainTeed/Menards Chevrolet SS. The Eau Claire, Wis., driver started 11th at the track “Too Tough to Tame” and not long into the event, Menard reported a tight-handling machine. Crew chief Slugger Labbe used the first several pit stops of the evening to make chassis and air pressure adjustments to remedy the handling conditions. A cut right-front tire on lap 202 pushed the CertainTeed/Menard Chevrolet SS into the outside wall causing extensive damage to the right side. After multiple trips to the garage and hard work by his crew, Menard returned to action and persevered during the final laps to ultimately finish in the 41st position. The result ranks Menard 18th in the driver championship point standings. Up next for Menard and his No. 27 Menards team is the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday, April 26.

Start – 11th       Finish – 41st    Laps Led – 0    Points – 18th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“It’s a shame we had the finish that we had in the CertainTeed/Menards Chevrolet tonight. We were solid all weekend long, but unfortunately a flat right-front tire ruined what could have been a decent finish. We’ve had three-straight weeks of solid performances, so we’re not going to let what happened here in Darlington get us down. We’ll enjoy the off-weekend and get back to work at Richmond International Raceway in two weeks.”

Ryan Newman Collects Third Top-10 of Season at Darlington Raceway

Ryan Newman drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet SS to a 10th-place finish in Saturday night’s 500-mile event at Darlington Raceway. The South Bend, Ind., driver started seventh at a track he considers to be his favorite on the Sprint Cup Series circuit. Shortly into the race, the driver reported a loose-handling condition in Turns 1 and 2. As a result, he raced as high as second and as low as 16th, so crew chief Luke Lambert made a series of chassis adjustments during more than 10 pit stops completed by the CAT crew under caution-flag conditions. With five laps remaining, Newman dodged a close call after sustaining damage on a three-wide restart that saw him go from seventh to 12th place. Fortunately, a debris caution slowed the action and forced the race into overtime. Newman used the second and final green-white-checkered flag restarts to gain ground and record a 10th-place finish, his third top-10 of 2014. The result ranks Newman ninth in the driver championship point standings. Up next for Newman and his No. 31 team is the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday, April 26th.

Start – 7th        Finish – 10th            Laps Led –  0      Points – 9th

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE:
“Luke (Lambert, crew chief) and the CAT crew really did a great job on pit road for me tonight. We used the first 300 laps to fine tune the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet SS for me and it helped. It also kept us in top-10 contention all night long. We had a fast car, but it was just too loose in certain stages to really have a shot at contending for the top spot. This is my favorite track and I wanted us to have a chance at the win in the end, but it just wasn’t our night. I’m okay with that knowing we unloaded a car with plenty of speed and the capability of running in the top 10, and then actually finishing in the top 10. Our RCR team has been strong from the get-go this season, but our results over the last month haven’t showed how good we really are. We’ve had a few issues with tires and a mechanical issue that kept us from producing top-10 finishes. This is good for us. I’m happy heading into the off-weekend and I look forward to Richmond International Raceway in two weeks.”

Brian Scott Finishes 11th in Friday Night Showdown at Darlington Raceway

Brian Scott and his No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet Camaro had another solid qualifying effort at Darlington Raceway starting the NASCAR Nationwide Series VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 in seventh place. Early on at the Lady in Black, Scott reported fighting both loose and tight conditions in his Chevrolet Camaro as he drove around the 1.33-mile track looking for the fastest groove. The Shore Lodge pit crew made adjustments through the four visits to pit road during the 147-lap event. On the final restart, Scott found himself in position to move from the sixth position to the front of the field. On the wild green-white-checker restart, Scott was shuffled to 11th where he would ultimately finish the race. The finish moved Scott into sixth in the driver championship point standings heading into Richmond International Raceway in two weeks.

Start – 7th         Finish – 11th     Laps Led – 0     Pts – 6th

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“That wasn’t the finish we were looking for tonight. Our Shore Lodge Chevrolet Camaro fought both tight and loose conditions during the race. We knew our car would loosen up as the track cooled down, so we didn’t want to make too big of adjustments. We are going to move onto Richmond and hopefully pick up the one spot that we missed there last fall.”

Ty Dillon Finishes 10th in Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 at Darlington Raceway

Ty Dillon drove the No. 3 Yuengling Light Lager Chevrolet Camaro to a 10th-place finish at Darlington Raceway Friday night, collecting the team’s sixth top-10 of the season. After qualifying fifth and taking the green flag, Dillon quickly lost track position because the front splitter was hitting the racetrack. After the race’s first caution on lap 13, crew chief Danny Stockman called Dillon to pit road to allow the team to release pressure off the splitter. Even after a lengthy pit stop, the team remained on the lead lap restarting in the 25th position. By lap 39, Dillon had his No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro in 15th place and by lap 61 he was back inside the top-10, thanks to a solid pit stop that gained the team three positions. For the remainder of the race, Dillon battled to stay inside the top-10 recording lap times faster than the race leader. On lap 140, the last caution lag flew setting up for a green-white-checker finish. Dillon gained speed before seeing the white flag, ultimately finishing 10th for his fifth consecutive top-10 finish. The No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro moved from third to fourth in the driver point standings heading into Richmond International Raceway.

Start – 5th   Finish – 10th     Laps Led – 0      Points – 4th

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“Losing some track position in the beginning definitely hurt us, but our Yuengling Light Lager team responded well. After that second pit stop we gained some track position back, made the right adjustments and we were able to stay competitive on both the restarts and long green-flag runs. I heard Danny (Stockman) say a couple of times on the radio we had the fastest car on the track, but it was difficult to get to the front tonight. This race track is tough, for sure.”

Late Race Incident Relegates Cale Conley to a 32nd-place finish at Darlington Raceway

Cale Conley returned to the seat of the No. 33 OKUMA Chevrolet Camaro for the second time this season, this time at Darlington Raceway.  The 21-year-old driver qualified 11th and battled inside the top-20 for a better part of the evening until a late-race incident relegated him to a 32nd-place finish. From the drop of the green flag, Conley reported an extremely loose condition through the corners. The evening’s first caution flag waved on lap 16 and the Vienna, W. Va-native brought his No. 33 machine to pit road for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. Conley restarted in the 13th spot and continued to fight the handling of his Chevrolet Camaro.  As the laps ticked away, the Nick Harrison-led team continued to make gains in the pits.  On lap 95 while running 13th, Conley made contact with another competitor which sent him spinning to the inside wall causing significant damage to the No. 33 Chevrolet Camaro. The crew went to work on pit road and Conley returned to the track several laps down, but was able to take the checkered flag for a 32nd-place finish.

Start -11th         Finish – 32nd         Laps Led – 0         Points – 0

CALE CONLEY QUOTE:
“What a tough night, it’s really not the finish I wanted to leave Darlington with.  We had a really strong OKUMA Chevrolet in practice and qualifying, but fought loose for a majority of the race.  The guys were great on pit road all night long, I hate that we weren’t able to get the finish we deserved.”

Brendan Gaughan Relegated to 22nd-place Finish at Darlington Raceway

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet Camaro qualified 13th for the NASCAR Nationwide Series VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 at Darlington Raceway. Gaughan started Friday night’s race battling a loose race car. The yellow flag fell on lap 19 and the No. 62 Chevrolet hit pit road for chassis adjustments, four tires and fuel. Gaughan reported the handling was improving after the changes the team made. By the halfway point. the car’s handling went the opposite direction and Gaughan began experiencing loose conditions. The Richard Childress Racing team fought with the loose and tight conditions all night. On the final restart at lap 142, Gaughan was racing for position and got loose coming out of turn four resulting in a 22nd-place finish. The No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino driver heads to Richmond International Raceway seventh in the driver point standings.

Start – 13th       Finish – 22nd    Laps Led – 0      Points – 7th

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“That’s a tough way to end the night for the South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet. I am proud of the No. 62 guys for giving their all. We battled hard here at Darlington. All we can do is continue to improve and head to Richmond ready to race.”

Austin Dillon Earns a 21st-place Finish in the No. 3 Dow Powerhouse Chevrolet at Texas Motor Speedway

Sporting a Dow Powerhouse paint scheme to highlight Dow’s solar roofing shingles this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, Austin Dillon and Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 Chevrolet SS team earned a 21st-place finish in the Duck Commander 500. The 43-car starting field took the green flag one day later than originally scheduled after inclement weather caused NASCAR officials to postpone the start of the race until Monday. Dillon started the 340-lap race from the 21st position. He noted a loose handling condition on entry into the corners of the 1.5-mile track from the start of the 500-mile race. The Gil Martin-led team worked on the handling issues that Dillon was facing during a series of routine pit stops, but long green-flag runs caused the rookie driver to fall two laps down to the race leader. He gained one lap back by taking the “wave around” when the caution flag was displayed with four laps remaining. Dillon ultimately earned a 21st-place finish in the Dow Powerhouse Chevrolet.

Start – 21st       Finish – 21st    Laps Led – 0    Points – 11th

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“I just needed to be tighter to start and we could have gotten the Dow Powerhouse Chevrolet where we needed to at the end of the race. I had a blast out there, though. I really learned a lot out there today racing. It will be fun to come back here in the Fall with Gil Martin and all of the guys on my Richard Childress Racing team.”

Paul Menard and the No. 27 Quaker State/Menards Chevrolet Team Finish Ninth
at Texas Motor Speedway

Paul Menard started 13th in the 500-mile, 340-lap NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway and earned a ninth-place finish on Monday. After a one-day delay because of rain on Sunday, the initial green flag waved with the yellow for the first nine laps. Once the race got going, Menard dealt with a car that wouldn’t turn the way he needed upon exit of the turns. He remained in the top-15 and top-20 positions throughout the first 150 laps while making pit stops for fuel, four tires and adjustments via green-flag stops on laps 94 and 140. Two cautions aided the Slugger Labbe-led crew to continue making adjustments on the Chevrolet SS to keep Menard running in the top-15 close enough to achieve another top-10 finish. The second-to-the last pit stop was made under green-flag conditions on lap 298 with Menard running 13th. Just before one lap to go, the yellow flag was displayed after a car brushed the outside wall. Labbe called Menard to pit road for four fresh tires, but didn’t add fuel. This lined Menard up in 12th place for the restart with four tires vs. several cars ahead of him on two tires. When the checkered flag waved, Menard was in ninth place for his third-consecutive top-10 finish and fourth of 2014. As a result, he and the No. 27 Menards Chevrolet team are now ninth in the driver’s points standings.

Start – 13th   Finish – 9th         Laps Led – 0     Points – Ninth

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“We had a pretty decent car for this race. We pretty much ran where we started in the No. 27 Quaker State/Menards Chevrolet. We kept making adjustments throughout the race to improve, so the effort was there in the pits. The guys did a great job on pit road and that final stop to take four tires and no fuel paid off and we earned our third-consecutive top-10 finish this year. We will take that and head to Darlington Raceway next weekend.”

Unscheduled Pit Stop Results in 16th-Place Finish for Ryan Newman at Texas Motor Speedway

Ryan Newman drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet SS to a 16th-place finish in the rain-delayed NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway on Monday. The South Bend, Ind., driver started eighth and raced up to fifth by lap 100, despite battling a loose-handling condition through the corners. A loss of track position occurred shortly after lap 120 because a competitor’s windshield tear off stuck to the No. 31’s splitter, resulting in an unscheduled pit stop. It cost the team a lap to the leader and positioned him in the 25th spot. Crew chief Luke Lambert worked throughout the remainder of the 340-lap event to devise a strategy to get Newman back onto the lead lap. The driver had the speed to drive up to 17th place before a caution flag was displayed to extend the race into overtime. The No. 31 team opted to stay out and take the wave around to gain one more spot during the green-white-checkered to finish in 16th place. The top-20 result puts Newman in 11th place in the driver championship point standings. Next Saturday night, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competes at Newman’s favorite track – Darlington Raceway.

Start – 8th        Finish – 16th          Laps Led – 0          Points – 11th

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE:
“The Caterpillar team once again gave me a fast Chevrolet to race today. It’s a shame we lost a lap early because of an unscheduled pit stop. Luke (Lambert, crew chief) tried to get us back on the same pit sequence, but every time it looked like we might get our lap back, we would have to pit for fuel and then the caution would come out. We were fast and that’s all I can ask for. Sooner or later, our luck will turn around to show just how good this No. 31 Caterpillar team is. Our last run today was our best run, so we are making gains when we are out on the track. I hope we can start to make the turn in the positive direction next week at Darlington Raceway. It’s my favorite Cup track on the circuit.”

Brian Scott Finishes 12th Under the Lights at Texas Motor Speedway

Brian Scott and his No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet Camaro qualified 13th for the 200-lap NASCAR Nationwide Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. Scott was racing inside the top-10 within one lap after the initial green flag. The team took four tires, fuel and made chassis adjustments during the lap 43 caution to help Scott’s tight-handling Camaro. Scott continued to battle around the 1.5-mile track for position while working to stay inside the top-10. The team visited pit road at the halfway mark for additional adjustments to free up the Shore Lodge Chevrolet. Scott continued to fight through the field for the remainder of the race and collected a 12th-place finish. The finish secured Scott’s seventh-place position in the driver point standings heading into Darlington Raceway next Friday night.

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“We had a good fight tonight. Our Chevrolet Camaro wasn’t bad, we just fought a little tight and a little loose all night. We need to keep working hard and we’ll be up in the front where we belong. Hopefully we’ll be up there next week at Darlington.”

Ty Dillon Finishes Ninth in O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 at Texas Motor Speedway

Ty Dillon drove the No. 3 WESCO Chevrolet Camaro to a ninth-place finish Friday night in the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. The team started 38th after being delayed in technical inspection so long they were not able to make a qualifying lap. However, Dillon quickly made up ground driving through traffic. By lap 10, he had moved up 16 spots and by lap 20 he was in 18th. On the team’s first pit stop at lap 43, Dillon over-drove his pit box costing the team track position. He quickly recovered from the gaffe and, by lap 69, had his No. 3 Chevrolet inside the top-10. On long green-flag runs, Dillon frequently reported his car’s handling changed requiring crew chief Danny Stockman to make track bar adjustments and four-tire changes on laps 102 and 121. Several times the No. 3 WESCO Chevrolet reached top-speed on the race track, but remained in ninth place. During the race’s final restart on lap 177, Dillon kept his Chevrolet Camaro in position to earn his fifth top-10 finish of the season. He remains third in the driver point standings heading into next weekend’s race at Darlington Raceway.

Start – 38th    Finish – 9th     Laps Led – 0      Points – 3rd

TY DILLON QUOTE:

“It’s frustrating because I thought we had a better car than ninth place. We worked really hard on this car and I definitely think our guys deserved better than ninth. It’ll drive us to do a better job though, I know Danny and this team will continue to improve. But at the end of the day, we got another top-10 finish and we’re still in a great position heading to Darlington.”

Brendan Gaughan Finishes 11th in the Lone Star State

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet Camaro qualified seventh for the NASCAR Nationwide Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. Gaughan began battling tight conditions early in the race. When the first caution fell on lap 43, the No. 62 Richard Childress Racing team took the opportunity to make a chassis adjustment. Gaughan reported the car showed improvement on longer runs. On lap 100, reports of a tire going down on the No. 62 brought him in for an unscheduled pit stop. The team battled back and, by lap 144, returned to the top-10 of the running order. After the caution on lap 170, the team received a commitment line violation and had to restart in 14th at the tail end of the longest line. Gaughan brought the Chevrolet Camaro to an 11th-place finish. The No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino driver remains sixth in the driver point standings.

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“Overall it was a decent day. After qualifying the South Point Chevrolet seventh, we worked all race to improve the tight conditions. Luckily we were able to catch our tire going down early before it could do serious damage. The guys worked hard all night on pit road. Coming home 11th after going through everything we did today is a real accomplishment.”

Rookie Austin Dillon Drives No. 3 Dow Chevrolet to Top-15 Finish at Martinsville Speedway

In his first-career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at Martinsville Speedway, Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon drove the No. 3 Dow Chevrolet to a 15th-place finish after starting from the 34th position on Sunday afternoon. The Welcome, N.C., driver was challenged from the start of the 500-lap event when shortly after taking the green flag, another competitor hit his black, red and white Chevrolet from behind, causing the team to make an unscheduled pit stop on lap four. Repairs were made quickly by the RCR crew and Dillon restarted in the 36th spot when green-flag racing resumed on lap 10. Although struggling with a lack of forward drive and various handling issues, Dillon raced his way into the 12th spot by lap 315. When the caution flag was displayed, Dillon pitted for tires, fuel and adjustments. However, they lost track position when the team had to make repairs to a fender from on-track contact that took place earlier in the day. He dropped to 21st in the running order but ultimately earned a 15th-place finish in the No. 3 Dow Chevrolet.

Paul Menard Earns Hard-Fought Top-10 Finish at Martinsville Speedway

Paul Menard and the No. 27 Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Chevrolet SS team started the 500-lap race at Martinsville Speedway in 21st-place on Sunday afternoon and finished 10th. Knowing track position and passing are at a premium at the half-mile oval, Menard and the Slugger Labbe-led team utilized their pit stops to help Menard with the car’s handling throughout the event. There were 14 cautions during the race, and the No. 27 team used eight of those to make pit stops for air pressure and chassis adjustments, four tires and fuel each time. Menard moved up to sixth by lap 125, but fell back to 21st place by lap 207 as track conditions changed. Driver and crew chief communications assisted in Labbe making the right calls enabling Menard to once again race his way to the front. In turn, they were assisted by great work from the No. 27 crew as they earned a total of 12 positions via pit stops. The team’s mutual goal for a great finish was achieved when Menard raced his way into to the top-15 by lap 430, and then the top-10 with 30 circuits remaining. He did his part and held off all challenges to finish in 10th place for the second-consecutive race. As a result, Menard and the No. 27 team moved up three positions since last week to 11th in the driver’s championship points.

Start – 21st       Finish – 10th    Laps Led – 0    Points – 11th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“I’ll take a top-10 at Martinsville Speedway any time. This team was on their game today on pit stops and bouncing back from the middle part of the race. We weren’t as good as were in the beginning, but Slugger (Labbe, crew chief) and the crew did a great job on pit calls and pit stops. They just never gave up and it paid off with another top-10 finish. We will definitely take that and head to Texas next week.”

Ryan Newman Records 20th-Place Finish at Martinsville Speedway

Ryan Newman drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 31 Quicken Loans Chevrolet SS to a 20th-place finish at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday. The South Bend, Ind., driver started 16th and climbed into the top 10 by lap 58, of 500. At the race’s halfway point, Newman was racing in the 12th position. His biggest challenges were restarts from the outside line and a tight-handling Chevrolet. With 150 laps to go, Newman reported a possible mechanical issue with the No. 31 machine. He had his hands full remaining competitive and persevered to record the 20th-place effort. The result puts Newman in 10th place in the driver championship point standings. Next Sunday, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competes at Texas Motor Speedway where Newman earned a victory in 2003.

Start – 16th          Finish – 20th        Laps Led – 0          Points – 10th

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE:
“This was certainly not the finish we were hoping for here at Martinsville Speedway, but I feel fortunate we were able to nurse it home to the finish. Before then, our Quicken Loans Chevrolet was very capable of a top-10 finish. I’m sure this RCR team will diagnose the issue and resolve it. Texas Motor Speedway is a track where I’ve had success at so I look forward to going there and getting our No. 31 team back on track.”

Austin Dillon Posts 11th-Place Finish at Auto Club Speedway

Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon earned an 11th-place finish at Auto Club Speedway on Sunday afternoon in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The rookie driver started the 400-mile event from the 20th position and reported a tight-handling condition from the start of the race. Crew chief Gil Martin took advantage of numerous caution periods to work on the handling of the black and yellow machine, instructing the RCR crew to make various chassis adjustments while changing four tires and adding fuel. Dillon worked his way into the 12th spot when he got loose and made contact with the outside wall on lap 160 causing damage to the right-side of his car. When the caution flag was displayed at lap 165, Dillon made his way down pit road for service so his team could evaluate damage from his earlier brush with the wall. However, he was issued a penalty for speeding down pit road and had to restart at the tail end of the field when green-flag racing resumed. Dillon restarted the race from the 27th position on lap 172 and spent the final 28 laps working to regain track position. The Welcome, N.C., driver took advantage of a green-white-checker restart at the end of the race to post an 11th-place finish.

Paul Menard Captures a Ninth-Place Finish at Auto Club Speedway

Paul Menard earned a ninth-place finish in Sunday’s 400-mile event at Auto Club Speedway after battling a tight-handling Chevrolet for a better part of the day. After starting from the rear of the field because of a driver change, Menard charged towards the front and quickly picked up spots. The field slowed for the afternoon’s first caution period on lap 18, which allowed the Eau Claire, Wisc.-native to bring his Duracell/Menards Chevrolet to the attention of his crew for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. On the ensuing restart, Menard charged toward the front utilizing the wide track to move into the 11th position. As the race continued, the No. 27 team made gains on the tight-handling condition they experienced. The caution flag waved one final time with two laps remaining. Crew chief Slugger Labbe called for two right-side tires on the final stop helping Menard to earn a hard-fought ,ninth-place finish.

Start – 31st       Finish – 9th      Laps Led – 0    Points – 14th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“We had a strong Duracell/Menards Chevrolet all day. We fought being tight off the center of the corner, but I’m proud of the guys on pit road and Slugger (Labbe – crew chief) made good calls all day. It’s good to come out of California with another top-10 finish and have strong momentum heading into Martinsville (Speedway) next weekend.”

Newman’s Top-10 Bid Cut Down By Tire Issue Resulting In 20th-Place Finish
at Auto Club Speedway

Ryan Newman drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet SS to a 20th-place finish at Auto Club Speedway on Sunday after a cut tire ended the team’s top-10 effort with less than 10 laps remaining in the event. The South Bend, Ind., driver started 16th and quickly worked his way up through the field to be scored in 10th by lap 24, fifth by circuit 54 and third at lap 63. The fifth caution of the day on lap 69 saw the CAT Racing team as the race leader. Instead of pitting, the Luke Lambert-led team chose to stay out and conserve a set of Goodyear tires in order to contend for the race victory in the closing laps with a fresh set of tires. By halfway, Newman’s tires looked good, but his handling was just a little too tight through the corners to break back into the top 10. The CAT crew fine tuned the Chevrolet under caution on laps 85, 119 and 143 allowing Newman to race back to the 10th position by lap 149. With just six laps remaining, the No. 31 cut down a tire forcing the driver onto pit road. Then three laps later, several cars experienced the same problem to bring out the caution. With the race now in overtime and the CAT team on the lead lap, Newman restarted 22nd and crossed the finish line in 20th. The result enabled Newman to move up one spot in the driver championship point standings to eighth place. Next Sunday, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competes at Martinsville Speedway.

Start – 16th                   Finish – 20th                Laps Led – 3                Points – 8th

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE: “We hadn’t experienced any tire issues all day and then with six laps to go, we got bit. It’s a shame. This Caterpillar Chevrolet was a top-10 car. We led some laps, but lost some of our handling by halfway. We were just too tight, but it wasn’t going to slow us down too much. Our Chevrolet was very capable of a top-10 finish. We had plenty of speed and I really thought we were in good shape before we had the tire issue. A lot of teams had issues there at the end. I am proud of my CAT team and I thought the strategy we put into play with the extra set of tires was the right call. It just wasn’t meant to be. We ran a good race, so we’ll move on and head to one of my favorite tracks, Martinsville Speedway.”

Brian Scott Contends for Race Win at Auto Club Speedway

Brian Scott and his No. 2 Anderson’s Maple Syrup Chevrolet Camaro qualified ninth for the TREATMYCLOT.com 300 at Auto Club Speedway. Scott was a contender for the race win early on as he battled inside the top 10. The team made a chassis adjustment during the green-flag pit stop on lap 68 to help Scott’s tight-handling Camaro. The adjustments were correct, and Scott took over the race lead on lap 79. The Anderson’s Maple Syrup Chevrolet battled with the front-running contenders, but lost track position as the tight conditions through the corners continued. I want to thank Anderson’s Maple Syrup and Albertsons for coming on board this weekend at Auto Club Speedway. Everyone worked really hard and we’ll work through this.”

Despite needing several adjustments to the car throughout the race, Dillon was able to stay within the top-10 for the entire 150-lap event. While on pit road, the team made adjustments to a tight-handling racecar and changed four tires on each stop, gaining significant speed after each visit. On lap 134, the race’s final restart, Dillon gained one spot on pit road and cruised to an eighth-place finish at the two-mile track. Dillon was the second Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender to cross the stripe and remains third in the driver point’s standings. TY DILLON QUOTE:
“I’m happy with the way our WESCO Chevy finished, but we definitely wanted more. The track conditions changed throughout the day. It was pretty warm out there, and we had to make the appropriate changes on pit road. Our guys stuck with it, Danny once again made some really good calls and we got a top-10 finish. We’ll enjoy this off-weekend coming up, but keep working at getting better.”

Brendan Gaughan Finishes 15th at Auto Club Speedway

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 WIX Filters Chevrolet took the green flag for the NASCAR Nationwide Series TREATMYCLOT.COM 300 in the 10th position. On lap 12, Gaughan first reported the car was extremely loose. The Richard Childress Racing team continued to improve on long runs at Auto Club Speedway and when the caution fell on lap 68, the team used the opportunity to make chassis adjustments to improve the car’s handling. Restarting from the ninth position, the WIX Filters Chevrolet battled to stay inside the top-10. Green-flag stops began on lap 113. A mishap on pit road for the No. 62 team resulted in a loss of a lap to the leader and being scored in the 16th position. Gaughan remained on track during the caution on lap 131 and received the “wave around” to put him back on the lead lap. As a result, Gaughan was able to bring the Camaro to a 15th-place finish. The No. 62 WIX Filters driver remains sixth in the championship point standings.

“This is not the finish we wanted today for the WIX Filters Chevrolet. We started out pretty loose, but were able to make the right adjustments throughout the day to improve the car. Austin Dillon Posts 11th-Place Finish at Bristol Motor Speedway

Austin Dillon drove Richard Childress Racing’s Realtree/Bad Boy Buggies Chevrolet to an 11th-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon, after starting the scheduled 500-lap event from the 27th position. During the early stages of the race, Dillon ran in the 27th spot as he reported a loose-handling condition on his No. 3 Chevrolet, especially on entry to the corners. The handling began to improve as rubber built up on the racing surface. However, as Dillon began to pass a significant number of competitors, a caution flag was displayed to the field slowing the pace of the race. Routine pit stops allowed the Gil Martin-led team to further adjust the handling of the car, which varied from loose to tight depending on the amount of rubber on the racing surface and the outside air temperature, which dropped significantly as weather set in over the Bristol, Tenn. track. On lap 119, Dillon was scored in the 27th position when the field was directed to pit road for a red flag that lasted more than 3 hours as rain started to fall. Green-flag racing resumed on lap 137. Dillon fell one lap down to the race leader during an ensuing long green-flag run, but earned his lap back before the race ended advancing into the top-20 on lap 263, and into the top-15 by lap 424, ultimately posting an 11th-place finish.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“It was a solid effort by everyone on the Realtree/Bad Boy Buggies Chevrolet team today. I really wish we could have gotten the No. 42 (Kyle Larson) and passed him for one more position at the end of the race so we could have finished inside of the top-10, and earned Rookie of the Race honors. But overall, we really have to be happy with a performance like that our first time out in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Bristol Motor Speedway. The car changed a lot during the race with the weather and rubber build-up on the track, but Gil Martin and the team were well-prepared with chassis adjustments on pit road.”

Paul Menard Hangs Tough for 21st-Place Finish at Bristol Motor Speedway

Paul Menard and Richard Childress Racing’s No. 27 Richmond/Menards Chevrolet SS team qualified 28th for Sunday’s 500-lap race at Bristol Motor Speedway. After the final practice on Saturday, the Slugger Labbe-led team had an indication there was something amiss in the motor. They discovered a concern and opted to change motors on Sunday morning before the race. This resulted in starting at the rear of the field because of the NASCAR-mandated penalty for making the change after qualifying. After an almost two-hour rain delay, the 43-car field took the initial green flag. From the start, Menard raced through the field from the back breaking into the top-20 by lap 43. After pitting during a competition caution on lap 50 to take four tires and fuel, he restarted 17th and moved up to 15th when rains forced another delay for three hours and 19 minutes. When racing resumed, Menard went from 13th to 19th by lap 246. He radioed in that it felt like something was coming apart causing him to loose speed and handling. Forced to pit under green on lap 271 for tires, fuel and adjustments, the crew discovered the left-front tire suffered severe wear. Now back in 33rd place two laps down, Menard used the remainder of the race to work his way through the field, take advantage of wave-arounds under caution and a strong race car to finish in 21st place.

Start – 28th       Finish – 21st     Laps Led – 0    Points – 17th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“We had a really strong race car here at Bristol. We took off there at the beginning and moved towards the front before we had that issue around the halfway point. After that, we didn’t have any more problems and still had fast lap times. Bad part was we got trapped laps down when we pitted under green there in the middle of the race. Great effort by everyone on this team, the finish just doesn’t show how good we really were out there.”

Ryan Newman Rallies To 16th-Place Finish at Bristol Motor Speedway

Ryan Newman drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 31 Quicken Loans Billion Dollar Bracket Challenge Chevrolet SS to a 16th-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday. After qualifying ninth, Mother Nature delayed the start of the event by more than an hour. When the 43-car field finally took the green flag, Newman drove conservatively for the first 50 laps before the competition yellow flew with the No. 31 scored in 11th position. The only handling concern was a tight condition through the center of the corners and off. The South Bend, Ind. native raced up to seventh position before hitting pit road for a four-tire service on lap 120 while rain moved in for a second time to stop the race until 7 p.m. Eastern Time. When it was time to go back to work, Newman competed in 13th position with plans to break back into the top 10. Unfortunately, an issue with the left-rear tire forced the No. 31 onto pit road for unscheduled service on lap 220. The RCR driver returned to the track in 35th position, but with plenty of speed and laps for crew chief Luke Lambert to formulate a plan to race back onto the lead lap after the mishap cost the team two laps to the leader. Then, with less than 40 laps remaining, Newman was in line for the free pass and got it when the caution waved on lap 498 for an accident. But moments later, the skies opened up and ended the race forcing Newman to finish 16th, which was rally of 19 positions. The top-20 result enabled Newman to remain ninth in the championship driver standings, less than 40 markers out of first. Next Sunday, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competes at Auto Club Speedway in the Auto Club 400.

Start – 9th           Finish – 16th       Laps Led – 0       Points – 9th

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE:
“We had a top-10 Quicken Loans Billion Dollar Bracket Chevrolet today, but had an issue with the left-rear tire. It seemed out of balance or something, so I held on as long as I could but we had to pit. It put us back in the field two laps down, but this Richard Childress Racing team never lost faith and Luke (crew chief – Lambert) put
a really good game plan together to allow us a chance to race back onto the lead lap. Unfortunately, the rain prevented us from taking the final restart. I think we could have gained a lot more track position and possibly get ourselves a third-straight top-10 finish. All in all, it was a solid weekend for us. We were able to come back from adversity and put ourselves in contention for a run at the win. That’s all we can really ask for and I am proud of this team. We now head to back out west to California to a good track for me at Auto Club Speedway. I hope we can keep this positive momentum going.”

Brian Scott and his No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet Camaro qualified fourth for the Drive to Stop Diabetes 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Scott reported early on in the 300-lap event that he was battling tight conditions. The team made chassis adjustments to the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing Camaro throughout the race in order to fight and maintain a lead-lap position.  With track position a critical component at the World’s Fastest Half-Mile,  through side-by-side racing and lapped vehicles the No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet Camaro continued to fight for its territory. Scott and the Phil Gould-led team finished 14th and currently sit seventh in the driver point standings heading into Auto Club Speedway next Saturday.

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“We just fought a tight Camaro all day long. It’s Bristol, and track position is everything. We got caught back in traffic and fought to stay on, and then tried to get back on, the lead lap. We’ll head to California and race even harder next weekend.”

Ty Dillon Finishes Sixth in Drive to Stop Diabetes 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway

Ty Dillon drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 Yuengling Light Lager Chevrolet Camaro to a sixth-place finish at Bristol Motor Speedway, after qualifying ninth. Dillon was the first Sunoco Rookie of the Year candidate to cross the checkered flag, after picking up two spots on the race’s final restart on lap 291. Dillon and the No. 3 team managed to stay in the top-10 for the entire race, despite battling a Camaro that needed several adjustments throughout the day. The team made pit stops on laps 97, 217, and 229 for four tires, fuel and track bar adjustments to keep the No. 3 Chevrolet competitive with changing track conditions. During the final pit stop on lap 265, crew chief Danny Stockman called for left-side tires only, allowing the No. 3 team to gain two spots on pit road. As a result, Dillon moved up one spot in the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver points standings to where he currently sits in third.

Start – 9th           Finish – 6th        Laps Led – 0       Pts – 3rd

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“We battled all weekend with this Yuengling Light Lager Chevrolet and came up with a great finish today. On that last restart, I knew we had the speed to gain a few positions and by running a different line we ended up having a great finish. I couldn’t be more proud of Danny, our guys, and the team. We made the right calls on pit road and went up against some really good race cars.”

Cale Conley Impresses in Nationwide Series Debut at Bristol Motor Speedway

Cale Conley turned in an impressive performance in his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut for Richard Childress Racing with an 11th-place finish in Saturday afternoon’s running of the Stop Diabetes 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Conley took the green flag from the 12th position and showed consistency and patience en route to a solid 11th-place finish. The Vienna, W. Va.-native fought a loose condition throughout the early stages of the 300-lap race. Conley fell a lap down, but continued to battle inside the top-15. The caution flag was displayed on lap 94; giving Conley the chance to bring his No. 33 OKUMA America Chevrolet to the attention of his crew for four fresh tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. The yellow flag flew with 40 laps remaining to give the 21-year old rookie the chance to race back onto the lead lap. Conley battled hard as the laps wound down to earn an 11th-place finish in his first Nationwide Series event of his career..

CALE CONLEY QUOTE:
“What a race. I can’t thank everyone at RCR and OKUMA America enough for today. Nick (Harrison – crew chief) and the No. 33 guys put together a great Chevrolet Camaro, so that made things easier. I’ve now experienced my first Bristol race. It’s hot, sweaty, there were a lot of nerves, but it was a blast. I didn’t really know what to expect so I’m happy with how everything went today.”

Brendan Gaughan Battles His Way to a Sixth-Place Finish at Thunder Valley

Brendan Gaughan drove the No. 62 El Cortez Hotel & Casino / South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet Camaro to a seventh-place finish in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Starting from the 20th position in the Drive to Stop Diabetes 300 presented by Lilly Diabetes, it did not take the No. 62 Chevrolet long to find the right groove and start making his way through the field. When the first caution fell on lap five, Gaughan had made his way to the 16th position. After the restart on lap nine, the Las Vegas-native kept the momentum going and, by lap 57, found his way inside the top-10. The second caution fell on lap 96 and Gaughan reported to the team he did not want to make any changes during their pit stop. The Richard Childress Racing team elected to stay out during the caution on lap 261 and restarted sixth, where he finished the race. The result moved the No. 62 El Cortez Hotel & Casino / South Point Hotel & Casino driver to sixth in the championship point standings.

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“Great job from Shane (Wilson, crew chief) and the No. 62 boys today for giving me such a good race car at Bristol Motor Speedway. We were tight early, but we were able to make up a lot of ground on the long runs. This just proves that when you are at Richard Childress Racing, you get top of the line equipment. We went from 20th to seventh with barely a scratch on the car, we consider that a great day at Bristol.”

Austin Dillon Earns 16th-Place Finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Richard Childress Racing driver Austin Dillon drove the No. 3 Cheerios Chevrolet to a 16th-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon. The Welcome, N.C., driver started the 267-lap event from the fourth position and maintained a spot in the top-10 for the first 90 laps before pitting for four tires and fuel on lap 94 under green-flag conditions. Exiting pit road in the 11th position, Dillon developed a tight-handling condition during the middle portion of the race and fell further in the running order. A series of pit stops by the RCR crew helped alleviate the handling conditions the young driver was facing, but track position was key and Dillon ultimately recorded a 16th-place finish.

Paul Menard Methodically Makes His Way to Third-Place Finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Paul Menard and the No. 27 Quaker State/Menards Chevrolet SS team started the 267-lap NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in 21st place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday. For the first 100 laps, the team utilized two separate four-tire pit stops to fix a loose in/tight center handling condition. Menard was up to 12th by lap 43, 10th by lap 82 and sixth on lap 93 when they pitted under green-flag conditions. After that stop by the Slugger Labbe-led crew, their Chevrolet started to respond as Menard methodically worked his way through the top-10 and then top-five by the 175th circuit. On lap 197, he raced six-time champion Jimmie Johnson for the lead and passed him. Relinquishing the lead on lap 205 for fuel, tires and a minor track bar adjustment, Menard returned to action in 11th place and was running second when the final caution waved on lap 221. Labbe called for a fuel-only pit stop and Menard restarted fourth on lap 225. He dropped back to the sixth after getting caught outside on the restart. Determined for more, Menard worked his way up to third when the checkered flag waved for his best-career finish at the 1.5-mile track.

Start – 21st         Finish – 3 rd        Laps Led – 6     Points – 18th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“We have had a really good car the first three races, just missed it about halfway through the race in Phoenix. This is good redemption; the guys never give up. This Quaker State/Menards Chevy was hauling ass on long runs today in Vegas. It felt good to race the 48 car (Jimmie Johnson) for the lead there and pass him. We had a lot of those long runs today and it kind of played in our favor.”

Richard Childress Racing driver Ryan Newman drove the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet SS to a seventh-place finish in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Newman started 10th and quickly raced into the top five in the opening laps. By halfway, crew chief Luke Lambert focused on tightening up the No. 31 Chevrolet for the South Bend, Ind., driver in order to break back into the top 10 by making chassis adjustments during a series of pit stops on laps 137, 156 and 208. Then, on lap 222 under yellow-flag conditions, the CAT crew completed a gas-and-go service to enable Newman to take advantage of a great restart and race from 11th to eighth place in less than five laps. During the remaining 40 laps, the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet team raced to their second top-10 finish in as many races with a seventh-place result.

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE:
“It was a good comeback for our Caterpillar Chevrolet. I think that’s about the race car that we had. There were times when we could be a little bit quicker toward the end of a run. It was a good effort for the team and it was a good points day. If we keep running like that, we’ll put it in the top 5 and if we do that, we’ll win. I’m just proud of the guys and everybody from Caterpillar and Chevrolet and RCR.  Everybody did a good job. It’s nice to be able to put on a show here in Vegas for CAT, they had more than 700 people here in attendance. I hope they had a good time;”

Brian Scott Collects First Top-10 Finish of the Season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Brian Scott qualified fifth for the Boyd Gaming 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The No. 2 Whitetail Chevrolet Camaro battled loose conditions in the opening laps of the event, but never fell outside of the top-10. Scott was scored in the fifth position when the first caution flew on lap 57 for debris. The team took four tires, fuel and made a chassis adjustment on their pit stop. The Richard Childress Racing team continued to work on the loose conditions during the three pit stops made in Sin City. The hard work paid off for the Camaro team as they gathered a solid foundation for the 1.5-mile program and finished seventh. The  finish is the first top-10 of the season for the No. 2 Chevrolet Camaro, moving the team up two positions in the driver point standings to sixth heading into Bristol Motor Speedway next Saturday.

Start – 5th          Finish – 7th       Laps Led – 0       Pts – 6th

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“Today was a really great effort by our No. 2 Whitetail Camaro team. I think that track position was definitely key and if we could have gained a few more positions on those restarts, we’d be in good shape. We had a good car. I’m excited for our 1.5-mile program this season. We’ve got a solid foundation and can only get better from here.”

Ty Dillon Finishes 11th at Boyd Gaming 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway
Ty Dillon drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 Red Kap/Jiffy Lube Chevrolet Camaro to an 11th-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which was done after winning his first-career pole award in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. The Rookie of the Year candidate led the first seven laps of the race after his dominant qualifying run, but battled a loose race car until adjustments were able to be made on lap 54. A four tire and fuel stop on lap 114 was done to put the Welcome, N.C. driver back inside the top-five, but Dillon was hit with a speeding penalty on pit road. While serving the pass-thru, Dillon was penalized a second time for speeding, setting the No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro three laps down. In the final 80 laps, the No. 3 team battled back making one additional pit stop and was able to gain enough track position to earn an 11th-place finish. Dillon was the second rookie to cross the stripe, and currently sits fourth in the Nationwide Series driver points standings going into next week’s race at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Start – 1st    Finish – 11th       Laps Led – 7     Points – 4th

Ty Dillon Quote:
“We had such a fast race car today and we had the opportunity to be there at the end. Those penalties definitely hurt us and I hate it for my guys. Danny (Stockman) gave me a great car that we were able to put on the pole, but some errors on pit road cost us a top-10 today. I was really happy with how we responded and made the best of the situation. I think we’ve just got to learn from our mistakes, move on and get after it next week in Bristol.”

Matt Crafton Finishes 12that Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Matt Crafton drove the No. 33 Tarkett/Menards car to a 12th-place finish at Las Vegas Motor Speedway after starting 11th in the Boyd Gaming 300. The Tulare, Calf.-native quickly jumped inside the top-10 in the opening green-flag run, but battled loose conditions. Crew chief Nick Harrison called Crafton to pit road on lap-46 under green flag racing for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. Shortly thereafter, NASCAR displayed the caution flag with the No. 33 driver in the 10th-position. Because of the timing of the caution, the field was sorted out by NASCAR deeming Crafton 17th, one-lap down. For the remainder of the 200-lap event, the No. 33 team battled to get back on the lead-lap running lap times as strong as the leaders. Crafton ultimately took the checkered-flag in the 12th-position.

Start – 11th          Finish – 12th       Laps Led – 0        Points – N/A

“We definitely had a top-five car today, but we got caught a lap down after a confusing call. All-in-all we had a good Tarkett/Menards, we continued to work on it and made it better. But, it’s a shame because we had a lot better car than where we finished.”

Las Vegas-Native Brendan Gaughan Finishes 16th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Brendan Gaughan piloted the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet Camaro to a 16th-place finish in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Gaughan battled a loose race car from the start of the race. On lap 53, the team brought the car down pit road for a green-flag stop where they took four tires, fuel and made a chassis adjustment. A caution fell on lap 57 for debris and the Richard Childress Racing No. 62 Camaro took advantage of the yellow flag to visit pit road for more adjustments. Gaughan began to work his way through the field and on lap 88 found himself racing for the 13th position. On lap 128.the team received a restart penalty forcing him to serve a stop-and-go penalty on pit road. Gaughan battled through traffic for the remainder of the race trying to make up as much track position as possible. The team finished the day in the 16th position. This finish puts the RCR South Point Hotel & Casino seventh in the driver point standings.

Start – 16th           Finish – 16th       Laps Led – 0         Points – 7th

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“Today was my own fault. The South Point Chevrolet did something it hadn’t done all weekend and that was get extremely loose, so we lost a lap early. We have a great team and pit crew. We came in for a green-flag stop and I just screwed up. I know exactly where they caught me speeding and there is no one else to blame but myself. Instead of minimizing the problem, I got caught speeding again. We are going to go to Bristol and make up some ground.”

The team made chassis adjustments during routine pit stops under yellow flag and green flag conditions, which improved the handling conditions the driver was facing. Paul Menard Hangs Tough for 23rd-place Finish at Phoenix

Paul Menard and the No. 27 Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Chevrolet SS began the 312-lap NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Phoenix International Raceway in 22nd place. For the early portions of the event, the Richard Childress Racing driver radioed to crew chief Slugger Labbe and team that he was turning well in Turns 1 and 2, but loose in 3 and 4 of the one-mile oval. After the competition caution on lap 35, Menard pitted for fuel, four tires and chassis adjustments. From there, Menard would remain in and near the top-20 positions through long, green-flag runs when, at one point, there were only 18 cars on the lead lap. Two more stops under green left Menard with enough fuel to go the distance, but handling conditions of being tight into and in the center of turns remained an issue. That, combined with being loose off the turns, kept the No. 27 team from progressing up the running order and they finished where they started in 23rd place.

 Start – 22nd                    Finish – 23rd                 Laps Led – 0                Points Position – 24th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:

“We just seemed to struggle with changing track and handling conditions during the entire race. We’d make the changes to fix one part, and then the other end of the track would give us a problem. But, we never gave up, tried to race our way back onto the lead lap there at the end but we couldn’t gain on the two cars in front of us that were on our lap. The Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Chevrolet crew did a good job on our pit stops.”

During the opening laps, the Rocket Man climbed from the 15th-starting position to ninth. As the race settled in, Newman drove comfortably in the top 15 while the Luke Lambert-led team focused on tightening up the No. 31 Chevrolet during several pit stops. A service stop on lap 188 helped Newman break into the top 10 at lap 211. Then on lap 243, he was scored the leader and held the top spot for six circuits before pitting one final time with 60 laps to go. When he returned to the track, Newman kept up a fast pace and, with one final nine-lap dash to the finish, Newman recorded a seventh-place finish. Brian Scott Finishes 11th in Rain Shortened Race at Phoenix International Raceway

Brian Scott qualified on the outside pole for the NASCAR Nationwide Series Blue Jeans Go Green 200 at Phoenix International Raceway missing the top speed by only two one thousands of a second. The No. 33 Whitetail Chevrolet battled tight-and-loose conditions for the majority of the race and was looking for more rear grip throughout. The team took four tires, fuel and made a chassis adjustment during the only green-flag stop of the race and were scored in  14th-place at the halfway mark of the 200-lap event. Scott reported his Chevrolet was still tight and wasn’t handling well in dirty air. The field was brought down pit road on lap 167 for an accident on the back stretch in addition to rain that started to dampen the asphalt surface. It continued to fall ending the NNS race, despite a valiant effort by NASCAR and the track crews to dry the surface. The 11th-place finish moves Scott up three positions in the driver point standings to eighth heading into next Saturday’s NNS race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“Your car just develops a lot of issues when you get behind a couple of people racing. You just develop issues and start to fight tight and loose conditions. In clean air, my Whitetail Chevrolet was a little snug but in dirty air I was loose in, plowing tight. It was really hard to pinpoint what adjustments you need to make.”

Ty Dillon Finishes 10th in rain-shortened race at Phoenix International Raceway

Ty Dillon drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 WESCO Chevrolet Camaro to a 10th-place finish Saturday afternoon in a rain-shortened race at Phoenix International Raceway. The No. 3 team made a four-tire, fuel and track bar adjustment pit stop on lap 83, followed by a two-tire and fuel pit stop on lap 136, keeping the No. 3 team in the top 10 for most of the day. Dillon made a move on lap 157 to crack the top-10 before a caution and red flag on lap 168. After nearly a two-hour rain delay, NASCAR officials called off the remainder of the race giving the No. 3 WESCO Chevrolet its second top-10 finish of the season. Dillon finished second of the seven rookies eligible for the Sunoco Rookie of the Year award and currently sits fourth in the driver point standings.

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“Our guys did an unbelievable job today giving me the fastest race car possible. We made a few adjustments on pit road that really helped our No. 3 WESCO Chevrolet. Brendan Gaughan Leaves Phoenix International Raceway with a 16th-Place Finish

Brendan Gaughan drove the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet Camaro to a 16th-place finish in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Phoenix International Raceway. Gaughan started in the 14th position and battled a tight racecar for most of the race. During the first caution on lap 21, the Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet team elected to make a track bar adjustment and take two tires returning to the track in 17th place. The Las Vegas-native reported that it was difficult to pass, but was able to work his way up to fifth while green-flag stops commenced. When the second caution of the Blue Jeans Go Green 200 fell on lap 91, Gaughan pitted for chassis adjustments to his tight South Point Hotel and Casino Chevrolet and four Goodyear tires. The No. 62 team’s hard work on pit road put Gaughan back on track in seventh position. On lap 135, the No. 62 team was penalized for speeding on pit road and served a pass-through penalty. A red flag for rain on lap 168 put a damper on the team’s rebound from the penalty and ended their day with the 16th-place finish. The result places the No.62 South Point Hotel & Casino driver sixth in the championship point standings.

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“The No. 62 team and I really wanted to go back green here at Phoenix International Raceway, but the rain had different plans. We were ready to throw the kitchen sink at it and get back out there. We were hoping to watch the leaders beat and bang, so we could come out of today with a top-10 finish. We don’t always get what we want. I’m excited and look forward to my home track next week in Las Vegas.”
