Austin Dillon Drives No. 3 Yuengling Light Lager Chevrolet to Victory Lane at Pocono Raceway

Austin Dillon drove Richard Childress Racing’s Yuengling Light Lager Chevrolet to his sixth-career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series win on Saturday afternoon at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa. The Welcome, N.C., driver started the 60-lap race from the second position and noted a tight-handling condition to crew chief Nick Harrison from the start of the event. He pitted under green-flag conditions on lap 30, taking four Goodyear tires and Sunoco Green E15 Fuel. As pit stops cycled through, Dillon raced his way into the second position and took the lead during the restart on lap 53. Several late-race cautions ensued but Dillon endured, surviving a Green-White-Checker finish that extended the race past its advertized distance to secure a win for America’s Oldest Brewery in their home state of Pennsylvania.

Start – 2nd Finish – 1st Laps Led – 23 Points – N/A

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“Anytime you can get a NASCAR win it’s huge, so I am so thankful to everyone at RCR, ECR and Yuengling for this opportunity. I watched my brother at Indianapolis Motor Speedway get a win last week and that really rejuvenated me I feel like. These seasons are so long. I loved watching him do that. It puts the fire back in you because you want to get to that place again. Seeing him in Victory Lane and being with him in Victory Lane. It’s a special place and from time to time you have to be reminded of how special it is. I attribute some of what Ty did last week to running well this week. I’m jacked up and wanting to get a Cup win now.”

Austin Dillon Earns Top-Five Finish In Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway

Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon earned a fifth-place finish in the Coke Zero 400 presented by Coca-Cola at Daytona International Speedway, securing Rookie of the Race honors and his highest finishing position of the season in the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/NRA Museum Chevrolet. The race, which is traditionally run Saturday night under the lights in Daytona, was pushed back one day due to inclement weather in the area and eventually shortened by 52 laps. Dillon started from the 23rd position and worked with spotter Billy O’Dea to maneuver around the 2.5-mile superspeedway. He successfully avoided two multi-car incidents,  which completely blocked the racing surface on laps 21 and 99. Following the lap-99 multi-car incident, Dillon pitted for four tires and fuel. He restarted in the fifth position when green-flag racing resumed on lap 105, but the caution flag was displayed on lap 108 for rain. With no break in the weather, the race was called complete and Dillon was credited with a fifth-place finish in the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/NRA Museum Chevrolet. He moved up to 13th in the driver point standings heading into the next race on the schedule, at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Start – 23rd      Finish – 5th      Laps Led – 0    Points – 13th

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“It was a great day for the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/NRA Museum Team. There were a few accidents on the track that we got through and I’m still scratching my head. I’ll have some stories to tell my kids one day, that’s for sure. There were cars in the air right in front of me. I would have liked to try and finish the race, but we had a solid points day. I’m off to run some dirt races this week before we race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway next weekend.”

Paul Menard Finishes 16th in Rain-Shortened Race at Daytona International Speedway

Paul Menard drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 27 SPLASH/Menards Chevrolet SS to a16th-place finish in Sunday’s rain delayed 400-mile event at Daytona International Speedway. The Eau Claire, Wis., driver started 21st and remained in the rear of the field as part of the team’s early-race strategy. Menard raced three-wide for many of the beginning laps until the caution flag fell on lap 13 for rain. After a 25-minute red flag delay, the Slugger Labbe-led team would restart in the 30th position and continue to ride in the back. Menard would pit during the lap-40 caution for four tires, fuel and adjustments. Once the field took the green flag, the SPLASH/ Menards Chevrolet team thought it was time to move forward from the 30th spot and gain positions. Menard would go on to race in the top 15, until lap 93 when an on-track incident collected Menard causing damage to the No. 27 Chevrolet. The Richard Childress Racing team would pit four times during the caution to make repairs and maintain their lead-lap status. Menard would retain his 16th-place run, until rain shortened the race with 48 laps to go. Up next for the No. 27 team is Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Start – 21st             Finish – 10th             Laps Led – 0                Points – 10th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“We battled weather all weekend and knew today would be a fight, as well. Our strategy was to ride around in the back and miss all the wrecks, but with rain coming we knew it was time to move towards the front. Of course, when we got to the front someone got turned around and we were caught up in a huge mess. Fortunately, my guys did a great job on pit road to repair damage and were able to keep us on the lead lap. I think we moved up in points, so all-in-all it wasn’t a terrible day.”

Crash Costs Newman and the WIX Filters Team a Solid Finish in Sunday’s
Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway

Ryan Newman drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 31 WIX Filters Chevrolet SS to a 24th-place finish in Sunday’s rain-delayed event at Daytona International Speedway. The South Bend, Ind., driver started 20th after rain washed out Friday’s final two sessions of knockout qualifying. Then on Saturday, Mother Nature put a damper on the festivities to postpone the scheduled 160-lap event until 11 a.m. on Sunday. When the green flag finally waved, Newman drove conservatively and dropped to the back of the lead pack. The strategy paid off when 15 cars were collected in a crash on lap 20. The No. 31 WIX Filters Chevrolet rode it out unscathed with the driver crediting his degree in engineering as an asset in maneuvering out of harm’s way. By halfway, Newman raced in the top 15 and started to make a gradual move to the front, while crew chief Luke Lambert monitored the weather in the surrounding areas. Then on lap 95, Newman attempted to take evasive action when more than 20 cars collided. This time, his No. 31 Chevrolet sustained damage. NASCAR red flagged the event as the No. 31 team surveyed the damage on pit road. As soon as NASCAR threw the yellow flag, Newman drove to the garage and the WIX Filters crew worked vigorously to repair the damage. Their hard work enabled the No. 31 driver to return to the track in 24th place on lap 112. Moments later, rain began to fall forcing NASCAR to once again throw the red flag and eventually deemed the race complete. Newman’s 24th-place result keeps the team in eighth place in the championship standings. Up next for the No. 31 team is Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway.

Start – 20th           Finish – 24th                 Laps Led – 0                Points – 8th

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE:
“I really spent most of the race managing and avoiding trouble by riding in the back. I had a really good idea where the leaders were and we were conservative with how we raced and by pitting on the extra lap by ourselves. It was all about staying out of trouble and keeping the fenders on our WIX Filters Chevrolet for most of our race. We kept it clean until the biggest crash of the Coke Zero 400. It’s so unfortunate these fans have sat through all of this for an extra day as we continue to fight Mother Nature. I hate seeing all these race cars get torn up like this. I think today is a product of being here an extra day, guys racing in the rain and a chance for the win. What happened today is just a product of racing together, it is what it is.”

Ty Dillon earned an 11th-place finish with teammates Brian Scott and Brendan Gaughan finishing 16th and 28th , respectively.

Brian Scott Finishes 16th at Daytona International Speedway

Brian Scott and the No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet Camaro team started the Subway Firecracker 250 powered by Coca-Cola in the 15th position. The 26-year old driver maneuvered his way around the famed Daytona International Speedway trying to secure the best track position to be there at the end of the 100-lap event. Always the luck of the draw with superspeedway racing, the Boise, Idaho driver was racing inside the top-10 with less than 20 laps to go. Scott was shuffled out of the draft during the green-white-checkered finish to the 16th- place finishing position. The NASCAR Nationwide Series heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway next Saturday.

Start – 15th        Finish – 16th    Laps Led – 1    Pts – 5th

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“The wild card races have not been good to us this year. We were there at the end, looking to have a solid finish and a good points night. We are definitely disappointed with our finish tonight.”

Ty Dillon Finishes 11th at Daytona International Speedway

Ty Dillon drove the No. 3 Yuengling America’s Oldest Brewery Chevrolet to an 11th-place finish on Friday night under the lights of Daytona International Speedway. Dillon qualified 16th in a rain-shortened qualifying session, then was forced to wait an additional hour for the green flag due to steady rainfall. Dillon raced inside the top-10 for 49 laps, and inside the top-five for 40 laps, despite finishing outside the top-10. The 22-year-old driver stayed in the draft, maneuvered to the front and looked to have a top-three finish before lap 94 and 99 caution flags. The No. 3 team gambled on fuel mileage and conserved enough to make it to the end. They were able to hang tough on the green-white-checkered finish to cross the stripe 11th. Dillon was the third Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender to cross the finish line and remains fourth in the driver point standings.

Start -16th    Finish -11th   Laps Led -0      Points – 4th

Ty Dillon Quote:
“Tonight was a very disappointing finish and was not an indication on how our night was. Our No. 3 Yuengling America’s Oldest Brewery Chevrolet Camaro was fast. We proved that by running inside the top-three for a while. It’s what happens with restrictor plate racing; it’s wild at the end. I’m sure the fans enjoyed the show.”

Brendan Gaughan Finishes 28th at Daytona International Speedway

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet qualified 14th
for the NASCAR Nationwide Series Subway Firecracker 250 at Daytona International Speedway. From the beginning of the race, Gaughan tried to learn what lines his Chevrolet Camaro could run the best. The 38-year-old veteran moved to the high line on lap 20 and began moving through the field. On lap 37, green flag stops were underway and crew chief Shane Wilson called for Gaughan to stay out to lead laps. The Las Vegas-native was content with the handling of his Camaro and had no feedback when the caution fell on lap 53. The Richard Childress Racing team used pit strategy under caution coming in for right-side tires and fuel, and then again for left-side tires two laps later. Gaughan brought out the caution on lap 94 when he was caught up in a three-car accident relegating him to his 28th-place finish. The No. 62 RCR team remains seventh in the driver point standings as the Nationwide Series heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Start – 14th       Finish -28th     Laps Led – 3     Points – 7th

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“This is definitely not the night we wanted for the No. 62 South Point Chevrolet. We unfortunately got caught up in a late-race accident, but all we can do is keep our heads high and move on to New Hampshire. There is still a lot of racing left in the season. “

Austin Dillon Finishes 16th in Cheerios Protein Chevrolet at Kentucky Speedway

Austin Dillon drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 Cheerios Protein Chevrolet to a 16th-place finish in the Quaker State 400 presented by Advance Auto Parts at Kentucky Speedway on Saturday evening after starting from the 16th spot. Dillon noted a loose-handling condition from the start of the 267-lap event. The RCR team pitted for the first time when the caution flag was displayed on lap 28. Crew chief Gil Martin directed the team to service the yellow and white Chevrolet with four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment designed to help alleviate the handling conditions Dillon was facing. When green-flag racing resumed on lap 34, Dillon was scored in the 14th spot. During the ensuing run, he worked his way into the top-10 and eventually raced his way as high as seventh in the running order. He pitted for the final time on lap 216, taking four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment; placing him 14th for the lap-219 restart. The handling on Dillon’s No. 3 Chevrolet was extremely loose during the closing laps of the event, relegating him to a 16th-place finish in the Cheerios Protein Chevrolet.

Start – 16th       Finish – 16th    Laps Led – 0    Points – 18th

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“We were just too loose during the last run, which caused us to lose too much track position at the end. We were a solid top-10 car all day and I’m proud of our team’s efforts. The pit crew was solid all day.”

Paul Menard Finishes 15th at Kentucky Speedway in No. 27 Quaker State/Menards Chevrolet

Paul Menard drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 27 Quaker State/Menards Chevrolet SS to a 15-place finish in Saturday’s 400-mile event at Kentucky Speedway. The Eau Claire, Wis., driver started 12th and raced in the top 10 for 89 laps of competition. Menard radioed that the car was quite a bit looser and needed more grip on the restarts. After a stop for four tires, fuel, track bar and air pressure adjustments, Menard felt more comfortable in the Chevrolet. From there, he raced inside the top 20 for the remainder of the 267-lap event with only three additional pit stops. The Slugger Labbe-led team made a split-second decision to come down pit road for two tires and fuel during the lap 216 caution. This pit stop put Menard in a position to race inside the top 15 with 47 laps remaining, and Menard was able to race his way to a 15th-place finish. Up next for the No. 27 team is Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway.

Start – 12th             Finish – 15th             Laps Led – 0                Points – 11th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“Today was tough. We just couldn’t get the front end to turn all weekend like we needed. The Quaker State/Menards Chevy started out loose and was tight on the restarts. By the end of the race we were just way too tight. Slugger had a great call there at the end to come in for two tires and my pit crew had great stops for me all day. I’m looking forward to Daytona next week.”

Ryan Newman Earns Best Finish of Season with Third Place at Kentucky Speedway

Ryan Newman and Richard Childress Racing’s No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet SS team had a stellar night in the Quaker State 400 presented by Advance Auto Parts at Kentucky Speedway on Saturday. After starting seventh, Newman and the Luke Lambert-led team raced in the top-10 for the entire 267-lap event. Utilizing several two-tire and four-tire pit stops to gain track position in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, the pit crew earned a total of five positions during stops. Such was the case on lap 78 when Newman was running sixth and pitted under caution taking fuel and four tires. He returned to action in fourth place, earning two spots on the stop. From that point on, he remained in the top-five pitting for the last time on lap 213. From there, Newman stayed in the top-three and crossed the start/finish line in third place at the 1.5-mile oval. This was his best-career finish at the track, and the best of the 2014 season. He remains eighth in the driver’s point standings as the series heads to Daytona International Speedway for another Saturday night race.

Start – 7th                   Finish – 3rd           Laps Led – 0              Points Position – 8th

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE:
“We had a great weekend and race here at Kentucky Speedway. We qualified seventh and the car was good all night. Everyone wants to talk about the bumps when we race here, I like to talk about how to race over and through the bumps. We had great pit stops tonight, the crew was awesome and I am happy we finally got the top-five finish we’ve been chasing this year. It was great to have this happen after announcing the Caterpillar extension with RCR earlier this week, too. Let’s see if we can keep it going as we head to Daytona International Speedway this weekend.”

Brian Scott Collects Seventh Top-10 Finish of Season at Kentucky Speedway

Brian Scott and the No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet Camaro team started the John R. Elliott Hero Campaign 300 presented by Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over in the fifth position at Kentucky Speedway. In the opening laps of the 300-mile race, Scott struggled to find front grip on his Camaro shuffling him back to 13th place at the halfway mark. Visiting pit road multiple times during the 200-lap event for adjustments, the Phil Gould-led team played pit strategy and took fuel only at the halfway mark. The team, then off sequence to the leaders, was fourth with 50 laps to go. The team battled a tight Camaro for the remainder of the race and crossed the finish line eighth. This marks the seventh top-10 finish for the Shore Lodge team and puts Scott fifth in the driver point standings. The NASCAR Nationwide Series heads to Daytona International Speedway next week for a Fourth of July special on Friday night.

Start – 5th        Finish – 8th     Laps Led – 0    Pts – 5th

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“I would’ve never thought we would finish where we did today. We had such a good Shore Lodge Chevrolet Camaro all weekend. As soon as the race started, we were all over the place. We really struggled today and my team did a great job with strategy to get us a top-10 finish.”

Ty Dillon Finishes Seventh at Kentucky Speedway

Ty Dillon drove the No. 3 Alsco/Red Kap Chevrolet Camaro to a seventh-place finish Friday night in the John R. Elliott Hero Campaign 300, recording the team’s 11th top-10 finish of the season. Dillon, who qualified eighth earlier in the afternoon, gave his team confidence by running inside the top-five for the first 41 laps. The 22-year-old, Welcome, N.C.-native floated back to 15th-place, twice, but managed to drive back inside the top-10 each time. For the remainder of the race, Dillon radioed he did not need adjustments to his No. 3 Camaro, but instead was searching for the right groove on the 1.5-mile race track. On lap 168, the caution flag dropped and left crew chief Danny Stockman with a decision for his driver to come to pit road, or stay out. His decision to change the four Goodyear tires paid off; Dillon moved up nine positions in the race’s final 27 laps and finished seventh. He was the first Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender to cross the finish line, and remains fourth in the driver point standings.

Start – 8th    Finish – 7th   Laps Led -0      Points – 4th

Ty Dillon Quote:
“We had one of the best race cars tonight we’ve had all season. I told Danny (Stockman) at the end of the race, if he keeps giving me cars like that, we’re going to win some races pretty soon. I was happy with his decision to make a pit stop there at the end. It gave me the right car to finish the way we did.”

Paul Menard Finishes Fourth at Kentucky Speedway

Paul Menard drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 33 Libman/Menards Chevrolet Camaro to a fourth-place finish in Friday’s 300-mile event at Kentucky Speedway. The Eau Claire, Wis., driver started third and raced in the top three for 81 laps of competition. During the second caution of the night, Nick Harrison radioed for Menard to come down pit road for four tires, fuel, tape on the grill and a track bar adjustment. After 13 laps, Menard reported the Libman/Menards Chevy was handling better after the adjustments. The Richard Childress Racing driver would only race outside of the top-five during green-flag pit stops when he cycled to the 16th-position. Menard would race his way back in to the top three after the lap 177 caution and ultimately finish in the fourth position. Up next for Menard in the No. 33 Chevrolet Camaro is Saturday’s race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on July 12th.

Start – 3rd             Finish – 4th             Laps Led – 3              Points – N/A

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“We’ve been here since Tuesday, so we’ve had a few days to get the Libman/Menards Chevy dialed-in. I think we had a second-place car, but got screwed up when the caution came out there and others were able to get fresh tires. My guys have been working hard and continue to bring fast cars to the track. I look forward to our next race together in Loudon.”

Brendan Gaughan Earns Fourth Top-10 of the Season at Kentucky Speedway

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet Camaro qualified 12th for the NASCAR Nationwide Series John R. Elliott Hero Campaign 300 at Kentucky Speedway. Gaughan began reporting on lap 15 that he was loose on entry and tight on exit. During the first caution on lap 43, crew chief Shane Wilson elected to take four tires, fuel, make air pressure and wedge adjustments. As teams started to make green-flag pit stops on lap 140, Gaughan moved up to the second position by staying out on track. The caution fell on lap 157 for debris and Gaughan visited pit road to make another chassis adjustment, restarting in seventh. The Las Vegas-native crossed the finish line in the sixth position at the 1.5-mile track. Gaughan and the No. 62 RCR team remain seventh in the driver point standings as the Nationwide Series heads back to Daytona International Speedway.

“Not a bad finish for the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet. I really wanted that top-five tonight and did not need that last caution. I am proud of the guys on this team for working hard during the stops tonight to improve the car.”

Austin Dillon Earns Top-20 Finish in Career-First Start at Sonoma Raceway

Austin Dillon drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 Dow Powerhouse Solar Chevrolet to a 17th-place finish in the Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday afternoon, marking the rookie of the year contender’s first career start at the 1.99-mile road course in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Dillon started the 110-lap event from the 26th position and utilized strategic driving, spotters Billy O’Dea and Max Papis and pit strategy to advance his position on the 11-turn course. He noted a tight-handling condition throughout the event, which was alleviated through air-pressure adjustments during routine pit stops. Dillon was running 13th when he made his final pit stop of the event after the caution flag was displayed with just under 20 laps remaining. During the stop, he took four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. Restarting in the 15th spot on lap 94, Dillon continued to face a tight-handling condition and ultimately finished 15th.

Paul Menard drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 27 Richmond/Menards Chevrolet SS to a fifth-place finish in Sunday’s 218.9-mile event at Sonoma Raceway in California. The Eau Claire, Wisc., driver started ninth and raced in the top 10 for 21 laps of competition. Menard radioed in that he needed more “drive off” and suggested a track bar adjustment during the team’s scheduled pit stop. The Slugger Labbe-led team called for Menard to come down pit road during the lap 30 caution. After a stop for four tires, fuel, air pressure and track bar adjustments, Menard felt more comfortable in the Richmond/Menards Chevy. From there, he was able to race within the top 20 for the remainder of the 110-lap event with only three additional pit stops. In the closing laps, Menard was able to race his way into the top five with fresh tires and a fast Chevrolet. This finish marks the No. 27 team’s third top-five finish, second consecutively after finishing fourth last week in Michigan and ninth top-10 finish. Brian Scott Finishes 16th at Road America

Brian Scott and the No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet Camaro team started the Gardner Denver 200 presented by Johnsonville in the sixth position at Road America. The rain halted the delay of the event by over an hour but when the green-flag waved, Scott found his way inside the top-five racing in the fourth position by lap 10. The No. 2 Shore Lodge pit crew won the race off pit road twice during 53-lap race, including the mandatory pit stop by NASCAR to put on rain tires. Scott spent the majority of the race inside the top-five and was racing in the third position when the final caution flag flew with two laps to go. The Shore Lodge team gambled on fuel mileage and was forced to pit in order to complete the green-white-checkered finish. After three-final laps around the 14-turn road course, Scott crossed the finish line 16th. The finish moved the team up one position in the driver point standings to fifth. The NASCAR Nationwide Series heads to Kentucky Speedway next week for a Friday night showdown.

Ty Dillon finishes 18th at Gardner Denver 200

Ty Dillon drove the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats Chevrolet Camaro to a 19th-place finish Saturday afternoon at Road America. Dillon qualified seventh before a rain-delay prior to the race’s green-flag. After nearly an hour delay, Dillon finessed his way to fourth-place and remained inside the top-10 for the race’s first 26 laps. On lap 28 a steady rain fell at the four-mile, 14-turn track, and NASCAR called for teams to put on Goodyear rain tires. For the remainder of the 53-lap race, Dillon used rain tires and a windshield wiper to guide him to the finish line. Toward the end of the race a mechanical problem cost the team some speed and the 22-year-old driver crossed the finish 19th. The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender remained fourth in the driver point standings leading into next Friday night’s race at Kentucky Speedway.

Brendan Gaughan Earns First Career NASCAR Nationwide Series Victory at Road America

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino team had a strong Chevrolet Camaro all weekend in Elkhart Lake, Wisc., qualifying fifth for Gardner Denver 200. The Las Vegas-native faced many challenges at the 14-turn road course, first collecting debris from sliding of the track on lap seven. By lap 17 Gaughan battled his way back to the second position. His second challenge came when the rain began. The Richard Childress Racing team’s windshield wiper would not function, crew chief Shane Wilson decided to gamble and not repair, but instead wipe the windshield down with Rain-X. When the full course caution fell on Lap 39, Gaughan came down to visit his No. 62 RCR team for four tires, fuel and to wipe down the windshield once again. Restarting in 16th position, the 38-year-old veteran battled up through the field and by Lap 44 was fourth. Gaughan had taken over second-place when the final caution fell on lap 50, resulting in a green-white-checkered restart. Restarting first after the leader ran out of fuel, Gaughan found himself fighting to maintain the lead with one lap to go. Gaughan held off the opposition and earned his first victory in 98 Nationwide Series starts. He earned his third top-10 of the season and remained seventh in the driver point standings, 43 points behind sixth-place as the team goes to Kentucky next Friday night.

This is such a great feeling after all the years of trying, we did it. I am so happy I don’t even know how to put it into words.”

Brian Scott and his No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet Camaro team once again utilized the fast ECR horsepower qualifying sixth for the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet 250 at Michigan International Speedway. When the green flag waved for the 125-lap event, another competitor got loose underneath Scott shooting him up the race track and falling back in the draft to the 25th position. Scott spent the majority of the race fighting for track position while battling a tight-handling Chevrolet. The No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet team found themselves back inside the top-10 on lap 57. During the lap 66 caution, crew chief Phil Gould made the decision to stay out for track position which moved Scott into the fourth position. As the laps wound down around the two-mile track, Scott battled for positions ultimately crossing the finish line fifth. Scott was the highest finishing NASCAR Nationwide Series regular and also collected his fourth consecutive top-10 finish. The Nationwide Series heads to their first road course race of the year next weekend at Road America with Scott sitting sixth in the driver point standings.

If we keep top-fiving the competition, we’re bound to get into victory lane one of these days.”

Ty Dillon Finishes Ninth in Ollie’s Bargain Outlet 250

Ty Dillon drove the No. 3 WESCO Chevrolet Camaro to a ninth-place finish Saturday afternoon, the team’s 10th top-10 finish of the season. Dillon qualified third earlier in the day and was quickly able to get his Camaro to the front. The 22-year-old rookie led the first lap of the race before settling into the top-five after a lap two caution flag. Dillon went on to lead eight more laps (9-16) before he radioed to crew chief Danny Stockman that his car was losing speed because of the tight-handling conditions. Pit stops and adjustments came on lap 41 and 67 to improve the No. 3 Chevrolet, which helped Dillon stay competitive for the remainder of the 125-lap event. On lap 79, the race’s final caution flag fell. Stockman called for a fuel-only pit stop putting Dillon in the seventh position for the final restart on lap 89. From there, the No. 3 Camaro was able to ride out another top-10, finishing ninth. Paul Menard Wins at Michigan International Speedway

Paul Menard drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 33 NIBCO/Menards Chevrolet SS to Victory Lane in Saturday’s 250-mile event at Michigan International Speedway. The Eau Claire, Wisc., driver started fifth and was in control of the race by lap three. After leading for five laps, Menard radioed to crew chief Nick Harrison that the No. 33 NIBCO/Menards Chevy was loose handling, but tight if he drove the high line. The No. 33 crew was able to remedy the car’s handling during a green-flag pit stop on lap 39 with four tires, fuel, wedge and track bar adjustments. Menard would continue to race in the top-10 until the lap 78 caution where a slow restart caused him to fall back to the sixth position from third. It only took one lap for Menard to fight his way back to the top five. By lap 109, Menard was in the second position and able to drive the No. 33 NIBCO/Menards Chevrolet to the lead. PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“I was more nervous today than I’ve been in awhile because I knew we had a fast NIBCO/Menards Chevy and didn’t want to mess it up. Really thought I screwed it up there on that restart, but we were able to come back and be in position to win. It’s my first time working with Nick Harrison, so I would say we are off to a good start. The guys did a great job all weekend by giving me a fast car that only got better. My family is here with me this weekend for the first time since my daughter was born, so that makes it even more special.”

Paul Menard drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 27 Moen/Menards Chevrolet SS to a 26th-place finish in Sunday’s 400-mile event at Pocono Raceway. The Eau Claire, Wisc., driver started 23rd and battled a loose-handling race car for 27 laps before green-flag pit stops. Crew chief Slugger Labbe and the No. 27 pit crew were able to remedy the loose condition on pit road with four tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment. Just four laps later, the afternoon’s first caution-flag flew giving the Labbe-led team an opportunity to return to pit road for fuel only. Menard would race in the top-20 and the top-10 through lap 88 of 160 circuits, stopping on lap 73 for two tires only. On lap 116, Menard communicated to his team his Chevrolet was experiencing a mechanical issue, which ultimately lead to a 26th-place finish for the Moen/Menards team. PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“Today was a tough day. We fought a loose car early in the race, but Slugger (Labbe) was able to make a call for adjustments that helped. I’ve never experienced a mechanical issue like we did at the end of the race, so that made finishing a challenge. I know we will bounce back next weekend in Michigan.”

Ryan Newman Turns In Seventh-Place Finish at Pocono Raceway

Ryan Newman drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 31 WIX Filters Chevrolet SS to a seventh-place finish in Sunday’s 160-lap race at Pocono Raceway. The South Bend, Ind., driver started 15th and the Luke Lambert-led team used several pit stops in the early stages to improve the handling when Newman reported an extremely loose-handling Chevrolet. By halfway, the No. 31 team competed in the top 10 and needed a little more improvement in handling to contend for a top-five spot. In the process, the team also implemented a fuel strategy plan. Newman’s final stop happened on lap 130 for a routine service for four fresh tires and fuel. Then, with less than 20 laps to go, a multi-car crash occurred behind Newman while he was in the 11th position. The caution set up a 12-lap shootout to the finish and when the checkered flag waved, Newman earned his seventh-place finish. Today’s result is the team’s fifth top 10 of the season and keeps Newman in 11th place in the championship standings. Up next is the Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Father’s Day next Sunday.

Start – 15th           Finish – 7th                    Laps Led – 0                Points – 11th

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE:
“Our WIX Filters Chevrolet handled pretty well throughout the race. We got a little behind in the beginning, but I am thinking it may have been a set of tires that cost us to lose some track position. After that, we just fine tuned our car and worked our way up to the front. We needed this top-10 after last week’s disappointing result. Now it’s off to Michigan for the Quicken Loans 400. We have them on board with us next week and a lot of Quicken Loans team members will be with us and we’re looking forward to putting on a great show for them.”

Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon earned a 21st-place finish in No. 3 American Ethanol Chevrolet SS in the FedEx 400 benefiting Autism Speaks at Dover International Speedway on Sunday afternoon. The Welcome, N.C., driver started the 400-lap race from the 23rd spot and advanced into the top 20 before the first round of pit stops on lap 67. Dillon maintained his position within the top 20 until pitting for right-side tires under caution on lap 159, helping him advance into the top 10. The red flag was displayed shortly after the caution so that NASCAR and track officials could make repairs to the racing surface, which developed a pot hole in turn two. Following a 25-minute red flag for repairs, green flag racing resumed on lap 164 with Dillon in the eighth position. Dillon was running in the 14th spot with approximately 70 laps remaining when he ran out of fuel under green-flag conditions. He immediately brought the No. 3 Chevrolet down pit road but could not read his gauges while coasting and was issued a penalty for speeding down pit road. Once pitted, his car stalled in the pit box, causing further problems for the team. Dillon fell back to the 24th spot, two laps down to the race leader, following the pit stop. He battled his way to the 21st position for the race’s finish and is now 15th in the point standings.

Paul Menard drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 27 Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Chevrolet SS to a 10th-place finish in Sunday’s 400-mile event at Dover International Speedway. The Eau Claire, Wisc., driver started 15th and was fast from the start, scored as the fastest car on track several laps in a row. PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“We definitely had our best Dover car yet. The Pittsburgh Paints/Menards Chevrolet took 10 to 15 laps to come to me but we could really race after that point. We struggled on restarts because of the time it took for the air pressures to settle in but we could really move forwards once they did. The guys gave me great stops on pit road which helped keep us in the top five early in the race. It was a great race for us and another top 10 finish doesn’t hurt.”

Mechanical Issue Costs the No. 31 Caterpillar Team Top-10 Finish
At Dover International Speedway

Ryan Newman drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet SS to a 31st-place finish at Sunday’s 400-lap event at Dover International Speedway. The South Bend, Ind., driver started 14th and in the early stages, battled an extremely loose-handling condition to race in the top 25. By halfway, the No. 31 competed in the top 20 but still needed more adjustments for a chance to contend with the top-10 competitors. The team’s hard work paid off as Newman moved into the top 10 on lap 291. Unfortunately a mechanical issue occurred when the No. 31 visited pit road for what was to be the team’s final service of the day. The problem slowed Newman and he was forced to the garage for quick repairs. He returned to the track 14 laps down to the leader to finish in 31st position. The result places Newman in 11th place, just three markers out of the top 10 in the driver championship point standings. Up next for the No. 31 team is next Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway.

Start – 14th           Finish – 31st                   Laps Led – 0                Points – 11th

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE:
“When the race started, we had our work cut out for us. We were so loose it cost us quite a bit of track position. The CAT crew worked extremely hard to get our Chevrolet competitive and Luke (Lambert – crew chief) made all the right calls. We made our way into the top 10 with about 100 laps to go. I’m so proud of what we were able to accomplish. Through adversity, we were capable of turning things around to produce a top-10 car. It’s a shame we had a mechanical problem that cost us the decent finish.”

Cut-Down Tire Ends Ryan Newman’s Bid for a Top-10 Finish Resulting in
15th Place at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Ryan Newman drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 31 Quicken Loans Chevrolet SS to a 15th-place finish in Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The South Bend, Ind., driver had his work cut out for him after starting 42nd because of an issue in qualifying. With 400 laps at his disposal, Newman quietly picked off positions climbing from 42nd to 13th in the first 115 laps. From that point on, Newman raced no lower than 15th place, but needed chassis changes to contend for a top-10 spot. The Luke Lambert-led teams made a series of adjustments to fine tune the Quicken Loans Chevrolet and, on lap 280, Newman solidly competed in ninth place. Unfortunately on the lap 293-restart, the No. 31 driver reported a tire going down. It cost Newman a lap to the leader and left him in 23rd position. With 20 laps remaining, the No. 31 raced in 16th place and gained one more position before the checkered flag waved. The top-15 result moves the No. 31 RCR team to 10th place in the championship point standings.Up next for the No. 31 team is the Autism Speaks 400 at Dover International Speedway.

Start – 42nd               Finish – 15th                Laps Led – 0              Points – 10th

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTE: “This Quicken Loans team persevered this weekend. We had quite a bit to overcome, but we never gave up. We started from the back after an issue in qualifying and had a Chevrolet good enough to race all the way up to ninth position before we had a tire cut down on a restart. I have to hand it to this team; we never gave up through all the adversity. We just need to shrug off this bad luck. I will never stop fighting and nor will my crew, we’ll be fine.”
