Brian Scott Finishes 17th in Nationwide Season Opener at Daytona International Speedway

Brian Scott kicked off the 2014 NASCAR Nationwide Series season at Daytona International Speedway by qualifying in the 20th position for the DRIVE4COPD 300. In the opening laps, Scott rocketed to the front of the field with his Shore Lodge Chevrolet Camaro picking up 12 spots before the first caution flag waved on lap eight. The team visited pit road for a fuel only stop and quickly returned to the on-track action. Scott fell to the rear of the pack after watching the Camaro’s water temperature rise.  Reporting he was loose off exit, the team took two right ride tires and fuel during green-flag pit stops on lap 52. At the halfway mark, Scott ran in the ninth position and remained there until the team returned to pit road on lap 72 for fuel only. It was a chess match to the finish as Scott raced side-by-side and single file while the laps wound down. Running sixth, he was in contention to make a charge for the lead, but lost momentum when the low line gained the advantage in the draft resulting in the 17th-place finish. The top-20 finish places Scott 11th in the driver points standings heading into the next Saturday’s NNS race at Phoenix International Speedway.

Start – 20th         Finish – 17th         Laps Led – 0         Points – 11th

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“That’s superspeedway racing for you. I’m happy we didn’t tear up our Shore Lodge Chevrolet, but disappointed because our car was much better than a 17th-place finish. Unfortunately, I got hung out to dry before that last caution and we weren’t able to redeem ourselves within the last few laps. We were just hanging on there at the end and going to make a move if it was there.”

Ty Dillon Finishes Seventh in DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway

Ty Dillon drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/TRACKER Boats Chevrolet Camaro to a seventh-place finish in the DRIVE4COPD 300 at Daytona International Speedway. In the first NASCAR Nationwide Series race of the season, Dillon started 23rd and quickly moved his Camaro into the top 10, sitting fifth on lap 39. After taking four tires and fuel on a green-flag pit stop on lap 53, Dillon  moved into second place. On lap 72, the No. 3 team was penalized for speeding on pit road and served a pass through penalty. Following the penalty, crew chief Danny Stockman called Dillon to stay out on track  and save fuel. Stockman’s call paid off as Dillon cracked the top 10. In a green-white-checkered finish, the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet crossed the  finish line in seventh place, now holding fifth place in the NASCAR Nationwide Series point standings. Dillon was the highest finishing rookie in the 120-lap season opener at Daytona.

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“I’m extremely pleased with how our No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet preformed today. Danny (Stockman, crew chief) and the guys did a great job giving me the fastest race car possible. It was an exciting finish. This is a great way to start the NASCAR Nationwide Series, and a great start to our goal of winning a championship.”

Brendan Gaughan Gambles with Fuel Strategy to Collect a Sixth-Place Finish at Daytona International Speedway

Brendan Gaughan drove the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet Camaro to a sixth-place finish in the NASCAR Nationwide Series season opener at Daytona International Speedway. Gaughan started in the 27th position and elected to bring his No. 62 Chevrolet to pit road for right side tires and fuel during the first caution on lap nine. The Las Vegas-native restarted 34th and began to gain spots on the field throughout the next 20 laps. During Gaughan’s second pit stop, the team made chassis adjustments to improve handling of the Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet. Crew chief Shane Wilson gambled during the Lap 70 caution by making the call to take fuel only, and no tires. The call restarted Gaughan in the 11th position putting him in an ideal place to draft his way to a sixth-place finish on the 2.5 mile superspeedway. The finish places the No.62 South Point Hotel & Casino driver and team fourth in the championship points standings.

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“It’s great to be leaving Daytona without a bunch of wrecked cars and without being in the big one. I really like the new rule package NASCAR has put in place this season and I believe from the fan reaction, they like it too. I had so much fun out there today. This is an awesome start for the South Point Chevrolet.  I’m so glad to be starting off the season with this sixth-place finish. This is the best finish I’ve had here and it means a lot to me and my team.”

Menard Finishes 39th After Explosion at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Starting the Homestead 400 from the 12th position, Paul Menard and the No. 27 Moen/Menards Chevrolet SS team ran in the top 10 for the majority of the day before an exploding tire relegated them to a 39th-place finish in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. In the early laps of the 400-mile event, Menard faced a loose-handling condition. That handling issue led the No. 27 team to make a variety of chassis adjustments during the ensuing pit stops. Though he was struggling with a loose-handling car, the Wisconsin native maintained a position inside the top 10 until sustaining right-rear damage on the lap-194 restart. Just 10 laps later, Menard cut a right-rear tire. As a result of the flat tire, the Richard Childress Racing driver visited pit road several times under caution to make repairs. Rubber from the flat right-rear tire became wrapped around the axle and several laps after restarting in 27th on lap 211, a fire erupted near the new right-rear tire causing Menard to pit for repairs. Upon entering pit road, the right-rear tire exploded from the fire, forcing Menard to end his night early because of extensive damage to the car. He ultimately finished the race in 39th, and ended the 2013 season 17th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings with three top-five and nine top-10 finishes.

Start – 12          Finish – 39           Laps Led – 0          Points – 17th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“That was pretty wild. First of all, the Moen/Menards Chevrolet was really good all night. On that restart, everybody kind of checked up and we got some right-rear damage and had a flat tire. I guess a bunch of rubber got wrapped up underneath around the axle. We came in a couple of times trying to fix the damage and tried to get the rubber off. We didn’t get it all and I guess it just caught fire. I didn’t really know it until there was a little bit of spark coming in the car and landed on the window net. I thought that was kind of weird. About a lap later they said I was on fire. I lost my brakes and then the wheel blew right off of the car. I thought they were going to hit the fire extinguisher. But the tire blew out and knocked the fire extinguisher out of my gasman’s hands. Then everything caught on fire. I just tried to get out of the car as fast as I could. When it blew, I was worried about all my guys on the right-rear corner. We’ve seen tires blow before and they are pretty violent. I’m just glad everyone is okay.”

Harvick Closes Out Season with 10th-Place Finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 Budweiser team closed out the 2013 season with a 10th-place finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday evening. The Richard Childress Racing driver started the 267-lap affair from the sixth position and battled a tight-handling Chevrolet during the early stages of the race. Crew chief Gil Martin directed Harvick to pit road on laps 13, 25 and 69 for tires, fuel and chassis adjustments to combat the handling issues his driver was fighting. The California native continued to struggle with an ill-handling red and white machine, influencing the team to make an unscheduled four-tire pit stop under green-flag conditions on lap 116. After falling as far back as the 29th in the running order and going one lap down to the leader, Harvick persevered and raced his way back onto the lead lap and into the top 15 just past the halfway mark. The team continued to work on the handling of the Budweiser Chevrolet throughout the remainder of the event, allowing Harvick to cross the finish line 10th in his final race for RCR. Harvick ended the season third in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup on the strength of four wins, one pole award, nine top-five and 21 top-10 finishes.

Start – 6          Finish – 10           Laps Led – 8          Points – 3rd

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:
“We just weren’t very good today and couldn’t get the car to turn like we needed to. We had one set of tires that gave us some real troubles for whatever reason, but just like always these guys on our Budweiser Chevy kept after it. We were able to salvage something out of the night. Obviously, it’s not what we wanted, but we came back and were way better at the end than what we were in the beginning. It’s what we’ve done all year and I’m just proud of everybody and thank them for everything that they have done.”

Jeff Burton Finishes 23rd in Season-Finale Race at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Jeff Burton and the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet team finished off the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season with a 23rd-place effort in the season-finale race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Starting 14th, the South Boston, Va., native maintained a top-20 running position early in the 400-mile event while battling a loose-entry and tight-middle handling condition on his Chevrolet. After a routine green-flag pit stop on lap 66, the caution flag was displayed for debris, trapping the 21-time Sprint Cup Series race winner two laps down to the leader. After taking the “wave around” pass under caution, Burton restarted 32nd and continued to battle with the ill-handling machine as the Luke Lambert-led Caterpillar pit crew made chassis and air pressure adjustments on multiple four-tire pit stops during the middle stages of the event. The Caterpillar team finally caught a break with 60 laps remaining when they were awarded the “Lucky Dog” pass and returned to the lead lap. The fortunate turn of events gave Burton the opportunity to re-enter the top 20, but the tight-handling condition returned after the last restart and Burton brought home a 23rd-place finish in his final race with Richard Childress Racing. Burton finished the season 20th in the Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings with two top-five and six top-10 finishes.

Start – 1
4          Finish – 23          Laps Led – 0          Points – 20th

JEFF BURTON QUOTE:
“I had a lot of fun driving this No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet over the last five seasons. I enjoyed this team. We’ve had a good time together. We haven’t had the performance we wanted, but I strongly believe in this group. I really do. The hardest part for me is that I’m walking away from a group that I feel really good about. I feel like they’re going to be a lot better next year than this year. That has been hard, but other than that, I’m at peace with everything. I feel good about what I’ve got going on. Hopefully in the next several days, I can talk about it. I’m excited about my future and about these guys’ future, too. I like this team and feel really close to them.

Mid-Race Incident Relegates Brian Scott to a 32nd-Place Finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Brian Scott and Richard Childress Racing’s No. 2 Shore Lodge team finished 32nd in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series season finale race at Homestead-Miami Speedway after a mid-race incident sent the competitor to the garage for repairs. The Boise, Idaho-native started from the 10th spot and battled a loose condition for a majority of the 200-lap event. Throughout the race, crew chief Phil Gould and the RCR crew made major chassis adjustments to alleviate the condition. While battling for position on lap 129, another competitor made contact with Scott, causing his car to hit the outside retaining wall. The crew assessed the damage and brought the No. 2 Shore Lodge Chevrolet to the garage for repairs. Scott returned to racing action with less than 50 laps remaining to salvage every spot he could, ultimately finishing 32nd and ending the 2013 Nationwide Series season seventh in the driver championship point standings. The points finish marks the highest season-ending ranking of Scott’s career to date, which is his first season with RCR.

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“We battled such a loose Camaro for most of the race and continued to take big swings at tightening it up on each stop. Coming off turn two, I got pinched then hit the outside wall. It’s not how I envisioned ending our 2013 season, but I’m proud of the job Phil and the No. 2 Shore Lodge team did this season.”

Austin Dillon Claims NASCAR Nationwide Series Title at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Austin Dillon clinched the NASCAR Nationwide Series driver’s championship for Richard Childress Racing on Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, marking the Welcome, N.C. driver’s second NASCAR National Series title. He entered the season-finale race with an eight-marker advantage over Sam Hornish Jr. in the standings and kept the point spread tight throughout the 200-lap event. Dillon struggled with a loose-handling No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet that transitioned to tight handling in the later stages of the event. A late-race caution positioned Dillon in the fifth spot with five laps of green flag racing remaining. Although he continued to struggle with handling issues in the final laps, he finished 12th and clinched the title by three points over Hornish.

Start – 11          Finish – 12       Laps Led – 0    Points – 1st

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“It was nerve wracking all the way down to the end. I’m not going to lie, I was nervous. Our car wasn’t the best today, but this is a testament to the entire No. 3 team the way we pulled together. We all stayed calm. I love these guys all like brothers. We are a team. We win and lose as a team. This means so much.”

Ty Dillon Closes out 2013 Season with 14th-place Finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Ty Dillon and Richard Childress Racing’s No. 33 WESCO team earned a 14th-place result on Saturday evening in the season-finale NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Starting from the 17th spot, Dillon reported to the Nick Harrison-led team his blue and white machine was too loose. Harrison called the young driver to pit road under caution on laps 46 and 98 for four tires, fuel and a round of chassis adjustments to combat the handling issues. The Richard Childress Racing team used pit strategy during the lap 146 caution period to capitalize on track position. Dillon was instructed to stay out on the racing surface while other teams pitted. The pit strategy allotted the Welcome, N.C., native the top spot for the ensuing restart. Dillon paced the field for nine circuits before fresher tires behind him caused him to fall in the running order. With minimal laps remaining in the race, Dillon took the checkered flag in the 14th position.

Start – 17          Finish – 14       Laps Led – 9    Owner’s Points – 6th

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“We battled the handling on the No. 33 WESCO Chevrolet for a lot of the race. We were very aero-loose and every time another car got around us, we just got so loose. This made it difficult to pass. Overall, I’ve had a lot of fun this year racing with the No. 33 team and have built a good notebook for next year. I’m looking forward to racing in the (NASCAR) Nationwide Series full time next season. I also want to thank WESCO for their support this year. It’s been great.”

Despite suffering a broken jack and a flat left-rear tire, Ty Dillon and the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops team finished 14th in the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Friday night. Dillon and company started the 134-lap affair from the third position and ran as high as second during the first half of the race. Gaughan Collects Top-Five Result in Season Finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet team collected their 10th-top five finish of the 2013 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season Friday night under the lights of Homestead-Miami Speedway in the season finale. Starting from the 13th spot, the Las Vegas native fell as far back as 15th during the initial green-flag run. As the early laps progressed, Gaughan alerted the team he was fighting a Chevrolet that was free overall, but tight in the center of the turns. Crew chief Shane Wilson directed his driver to pit road on laps 31 and 42 for the pit crew to service the black and gold machine with four tires, fuel and chassis adjustments. After working his way into the top five on lap 88, Gaughan informed Wilson the truck’s handling had transitioned from loose to tight. The pit crew made a final adjustment during a four-tire pit stop on lap 96 and sent the Richard Childress Racing driver back to the racing surface in the fourth position. Gaughan maneuvered his way into second on lap 129, survived three attempts at a green-white-checkered finish and crossed the finish line in the fourth position. Gaughan closed out the season seventh in the Camping World Truck Series driver championship point standings on the strength of 10 top-five and 13 top-10 finishes.

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“This was a disappointing finish for the South Point Hotel & Casino team. We had a truck that could have won the race, but Kyle (Busch) beat us on the final three restarts and then Ryan (Blaney) tried to push me at the end, but almost wrecked me so I had to settle for a fourth-place result. My team worked hard today and all season, just wish we could have gotten a win for them tonight.”

Paul Menard Finishes 16th at Phoenix International Raceway

Paul Menard and the No. 27 Rheem/Menards Chevrolet team started Sunday’s 312-lap NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in 13th place. Once the initial green flag waved over the one-mile oval of Phoenix International Raceway under sunny skies, Menard would remain in a top-15 running position for the early going. While competing against the other 42 competitors, Menard radioed to crew chief “Slugger” Labbe he was having trouble getting his Chevrolet SS to handle exiting the turns. Utilizing right-side tire only pit stops on laps 52, 101 and 131 allowed Menard to compete in the top 10 and top 15 positions. After falling to 26th place because of pit sequences under cautions, Menard stayed out under a yellow flag on lap 190 while others hit pit road. This lined him up 12th for the restart for a gain of 14 places. As the race continued, Menard remained in 13th-place needing the car to turn better in the turns by lap 282. Making one last pit stop under caution on lap 184 taking four tires and fuel, he restarted 18th. During the final run, he gained two positions to finish 16th. As a result, Menard remains 17th in the Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

          Start – 13             Finish- 16             Points Led – 0      Points – 17th

Paul Menard Quote: “We were doing pretty good there in the early parts of the race, but just needed more grip exiting the turns and a better balance through them in the No. 27 Rheem/Menards Chevrolet. Two-tire pit stops worked really well for us and the guys did a great job on pit road. We have one more chance to earn a victory this season, and Homestead-Miami Speedway seems like the perfect place to make that happen.”

Brian Scott Earns a 13th-Place Finish at Phoenix International Raceway

Brian Scott and the No. 2 Whitetail team scored a 13th-place finish in Saturday afternoon’s ServiceMaster 200 at Phoenix International Raceway. The 25-year-old Nationwide Series driver started the 200-lap affair from the fifth position and remained among the top group of competitors for the initial green-flag run. Scott reported to crew chief Phil Gould he was tight through the corners. Gould brought the Boise, Idaho-native to pit road under green-flag conditions for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment. When the field cycled through green-flag pit stops, Scott was running in the sixth position. The caution was displayed on lap 104 allowing the Richard Childress Racing driver to pit for two tires, fuel and chassis adjustments to help the handling of his Chevrolet. He restarted fifth and battled with the No. 7 for track position. The caution flag waved  on lap 130 prompting Scott to bring his Chevrolet Camaro to pit road for fuel only. On the ensuing restart, he made contact with the No. 22 as Scott sustained slight right-front damage, but not enough to hurt the handling of his car. Through the next several laps the he battled among the top-seven for every position he could earn. On lap 163, he got loose in turn one and slid back to 13th in the running order, where he ultimately took the checkered flag.

Start – 5         Finish – 13         Laps Led – 0         Points – 7th

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“We had a really good Whitetail Camaro today at Phoenix (International Raceway), Phil (Gould, crew chief) and the guys brought a great car, and we had good track position to start the race. We fought a few handling issues in the beginning, but improved on each stop while staying inside the top-10. I made a mistake by getting into the 22, and then got loose on one of the restarts costing us valuable track position. I’m glad to be heading to Homestead (Miami-Speedway) next weekend. I ran well there last year and look to back that performance up once again.”

Dillon Leads NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship Standings with One Race Remaining Following Third-Place Finish at Phoenix International Raceway

Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon drove the No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet to a third-place finish in Saturday afternoon’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Phoenix International Raceway, extending his lead in the driver championship point standings to eight markers heading into the series finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The Welcome, N.C. driver started the event from the second position and was a mainstay in the top five for a majority of the 200-lap event. He slipped into the fifth position during his initial run as he struggled with a tight-handling condition in the middle of the corners, and a loose-handling condition on exit of the corners. A green-flag pit stop for service on lap 78 helped alleviate the handling conditions Dillon was facing. Two-tire pit stops under caution periods on laps 107 and 132 helped crew chief Danny Stockman keep Dillon in contention and the championship contender drove to second on lap 163 before slipping into the third spot on the white flag lap, where he ultimately finished.

The loose-handling issue continued to plague Harvick during the final laps leaving him to settle for a ninth-place finish in his 200th Nationwide Series start with RCR.

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:
“We worked on the Bad Boy Buggies Chevrolet during the race and just couldn’t get it to tighten up like we needed. Hate it for the team that we couldn’t pick up a better finish, but between the handling of the car and the different pit strategies that played out, we came up short today.”

Dillon Earns Top-Five Finish at Phoenix International Raceway

Ty Dillon and the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops team finished fourth under the lights at Phoenix International Raceway on Friday night. Starting the 150-lap event from the 12th position, Dillon immediately reported his Chevrolet was too tight. Relief came for the driver as the field slowed for a caution flag on lap 35. Crew chief Marcus Richmond called the Richard Childress Racing driver to pit road for two tires and fuel. The two-tire pit strategy boosted Dillon in the running order, allotting him the fourth spot for the ensuing restart. The 21-year-old driver ran as high as second during the race. Dillon slipped back to fourth on the final restart of the night where he would cross the finish line. The fourth-place result advanced Dillon one spot, to second, in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver championship point standings with one race remaining in the season.

Start – 12         Finish – 4          Laps Led – 0          Points – 2nd

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“We didn’t get the qualifying spot that we wanted. We really had to dig ourselves out of a hole starting from 12th. Marcus (Richmond, crew chief) made a great call for two tires and helped us gain track position. This Bass Pro Shops team has a lot to be proud of, we’re going to fight until the end.”

Gaughan Earns Third-Place Result at Phoenix International Raceway

Starting from the third position, Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet team picked up their eighth top-five finish of the 2013 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season under the lights of Phoenix International Raceway on Friday night. The Las Vegas native maintained a position within the top five for the majority of the 150-lap affair and battled a tight black and gold machine during the early laps of a green-flag run. The South Point Hotel & Casino pit crew made slight air pressure adjustments during scheduled two and four-tire pit stops on laps 37 and 89 to help with the handling of the Richard Childress Racing-prepared machine. Armed with a fast Chevrolet, Gaughan was able to maintain a position near the front of the field and cross the finish line third. The top-five finish allowed Gaughan to move up two positions, to seventh, in the Camping World Truck Series driver championship point standings.

         Start – 3          Finish – 3          Laps Led – 3         Points – 7th

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“This was a great run for our South Point Hotel & Casino team tonight. I had to be careful at the end when I was racing Ty (Dillon) because you don’t want to do anything that could jeopardize your teammate’s run, but I knew we were a little bit faster at the end, and I really wanted the extra position. I was really hoping for a slightly better finish, but my team put forth a great effort and we’ll continue to fight for position in the championship point battle all the way to the end.”

Menard Finishes 15th at Texas Motor Speedway

Paul Menard started the Quaker State/Menards Chevrolet from the fourth position at Texas Motor Speedway and brought home a top-15 finish after facing handling issues throughout the 500-mile race. In the early laps of the event, Menard slipped back several positions as he fought a tight-handling condition. The “Slugger” Labbe-led crew made a variety of chassis adjustments to the No. 27 machine on multiple four-tire pit stops in an attempt to remedy the handling condition. During the middle portion of the 334-lap affair, Menard continued to struggle with a tight condition and fell a lap down to the leader on lap 230. The Eau Claire, Wis., native was determined to gain his lap back and maintained a top-15 position, ultimately getting the “Lucky Dog” pass on lap 256, allowing him to return to the lead lap. The Richard Childress Racing driver continued to fight handling issues as cloud cover caused changing track conditions, but Menard was able to run in the top-15 for the remainder of the race, ultimately crossing the finish line in 15th place. He sits 17th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings heading into Phoenix International Raceway.

Start – 4                            Finish – 15                             Laps Led – 0                Points – 17th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“We started the race off super tight, but as the laps wore on the car improved. Then we lost our drive off the corners. We struggled with the handling of our Quaker State/Menards Chevrolet all day. The crew made a variety of changes, but we just couldn’t hit on the right setup. There at the end we went from being too tight to too free. We’ll keep our heads up and hope for better results next weekend.”

Harvick Earns Eighth-Place Finish at Texas Motor Speedway

Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 Budweiser team earned a top-10 finish at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday after battling handling issues and changing track conditions. Starting from the 19th spot, the Bakersfield, Calif., native immediately went to work increasing his position in the running order, settling into the top 10 by lap 30 while battling a loose-handling Chevrolet. As the race progressed, Harvick continued to fight the loose condition, leading crew chief Gil Martin to call for multiple chassis adjustments during the ensuing four-tire pit stops. The Richard Childress Racing driver maintained a position within the top 10 during the late stages of the race, but as the sun set over the 1.5-mile track, Harvick alerted the team that the car had transitioned from loose to tight. Making a final visit to pit road on lap 293 for four tires, fuel and air pressure adjustments, Harvick returned to the track and moved into the top five after green-flag pit stops cycled through the field. The 22-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winner continued to run near the front of the pack during the final laps, ultimately taking the checkered flag from the eighth position. Following Harvick’s 19th top-10 finish of the season, he moved up to third in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, 40 markers out of the top spot.

Start – 19         Finish – 8          Laps Led – 0        Points – 3rd

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:
“We struggled a bit today with the handling of our Budweiser Chevrolet. It seemed like no matter what we tried we couldn’t tighten it up enough, and then at the end we went a little too far. We still had a strong finish and gained a spot in the point standings.”

Burton Finishes 24th at Texas Motor Speedway

Jeff Burton and the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet team finished 24th at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday evening. Starting the 334-lap event from the 20th position, the 21-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winner battled a tight-middle and loose-off handling condition on his black and yellow machine during the early laps while maintaining a top-25 running position. Throughout the middle stages of the event, the South Boston, Va., native continued to battle with the ill-handling machine while the Luke Lambert-led Caterpillar pit crew made chassis and air pressure adjustments on multiple four-tire pit stops under both green-flag conditions and caution-flag periods. The Richard Childress Racing driver maintained a top-25 running position over the final 100 laps, taking the “wave around” pass under a late-race caution-flag period and was scored two laps down to the leader late in the race. Although he was hoping for one more caution-flag period, the 46-year-old driver was forced to bring his Chevrolet SS to the attention of the Caterpillar pit crew under green-flag conditions before the end of the race, ultimately crossing the finish line in the 24th position. Burton remains 19th in the Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

Start – 20                      Finish – 24                   Laps Led – 0                Points – 19th

JEFF BURTON QUOTE:
“It was a tough day for the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet team because we couldn’t find the balance we needed on the car. One run we would be tight and the next we would be loose. It actually started to come around there at the end. I’m looking forward to getting back to Phoenix (Intern
ational Raceway) where we had a top-10 finish earlier this season.”

Dillon Drives the No. 33 Boot Barn Chevrolet to a 22nd-Place Finish at Texas Motor Speedway

Austin Dillon drove the No. 33 Boot Barn Chevrolet to a 22nd-place finish in Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. The Welcome, N.C., driver started the 500-mile race from the 21st position and reported to his team that the car’s handling was loose on entry into the corners in the early portion of the 334-lap race. A series of green-flag pit stops provided the Richard Childress Racing team an opportunity to work on the handling of Dillon’s Chevrolet SS, but changing track conditions made the job of keeping up with adjustments challenging. The team fell one lap down to the race leader on lap 136 while running in the 25th position and was unable to race their way into the “Lucky Dog” position.  In the closing portion of the race, Dillon reported a loose-handling condition. However, a green-flag pit stop with 32 laps remaining gave Dillon four fresh tires for the closing laps, allowing him to advance to 22nd for the race’s finish.

Start – 21          Finish – 22        Laps Led – 0    Points – N/A

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“I think if we would have taken the “wave around” pass, we may have gained a few extra positions, but overall I am happy with the strategy we played today. I have a lot to learn. I want to thank Boot Barn, Wayne Workwear, VF Imagewear and all of the guys at RCR who helped me today on this car. It was a fun race.”

Brian Scott Earns His 13th Top-10 Finish of 2013 at Texas Motor Speedway

Brian Scott and the No. 2 Shore Lodge team earned an eighth-place finish after fighting a tight-handling condition in the late stages of Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. Scott started the 200-lap event from the ninth position and quickly moved forward, settling into the sixth spot by lap 17. Crew chief Phil Gould called the Boise, Idaho-native to pit road under green-flag condition on lap 51 for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. Scott consistently clicked off lap times as fast as the leaders throughout the day, climbing as high as second. The Richard Childress Racing competitor spent a majority of the 300-mile race inside the top-five. The caution-flag flew on lap 78, setting up an 18-lap dash to the finish with Scott in the eighth position. Upon the restart, Scott quickly moved into the sixth position, but over the final run he fought a tight-handling condition ultimately earning an eighth-place finish. Scott moved into sixth in the Nationwide Series Championship point standings, 16 markers back from fourth.

Start – 9         Finish – 8         Laps Led – 0         Points – 6th

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“We had a really good Shore Lodge Camaro today; we just needed a little more in order to contend for the win. This was probably the best mile-and-a-half Chevrolet we’ve had in awhile. I’m proud of the guys, they were strong all weekend and on pit road. With just a few races left, we’re going to get every point we can. I can’t wait to get to Phoenix. We’re bringing the same car from earlier this fall in Richmond; hopefully we’ll finish one-spot better”

Austin Dillon Scores Fifth-Place Finish in No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet at Texas Motor Speedway

Austin Dillon earned a fifth-place finish in the No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Challenge NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon after starting the 200-lap race from the fifth position. The championship contender reported his blue Chevrolet Camaro was loose exiting the corners during his initial run. Dillon led lap 53 to gain a valuable championship bonus point before pitting under green-flag conditions on lap 54, taking four tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment. During the ensuing run, handling conditions improved and Dillon maintained position in the top five. However, a caution period on lap 72 provided many teams the opportunity to pit for tires while the No. 3 team opted to take fuel only, causing Dillon to fall to 13th when green-flag racing resumed on lap 75. Despite battling handling conditions, Dillon drove into the top-10 before pitting for the final time on lap 169 for four tires and fuel. Exiting the pits in the seventh position, he drove to fifth for the race’s finish. Dillon leads the Nationwide Series driver championship standings by six points with two races remaining.

Start – 5           Finish – 5         Laps Led – 2    Points – 1st

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTE:
“We did what we needed to do today, which is earn a top-five finish and keep ourselves in this championship points race. Overall, it was a solid day. The cautions did not fall in our favor today and we ended up with an extra set of tires in the pit box at the end of the race that we were unable to use. It’s always a shame when that happens. Oh well, that’s just part of it. I’m excited for Phoenix International Raceway and Homestead-Miami Speedway to see how this Championship race plays out.”

Ty Dillon Finishes 12th at Texas Motor Speedway

Battling a temperamental-handling Chevrolet, Ty Dillon and the No. 33 WESCO team finished 12th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon. Dillon started the 200-lap affair from the 10th position and reported to the Nick Harrison-led crew he was loose on entry and exit of the corners, but tight in the center of the turns. Long green-flag runs prevented the driver from seeking relief early in the race and fell to the 13th spot before hitting pit road under green-flag conditions on lap 50. The WESCO pit crew serviced their Chevrolet with four tires, fuel and a round of chassis adjustments to combat the ill-handling machine. Dillon ran as high as fifth before handling issued returned on lap 116. The No. 33 team utilized pit stops to adjust the handling of the blue and white Chevrolet over the course of the last portion of the race. A tight-handling condition continued to plague the Richard Childress Racing driver relegating him to a 12th-place result.

Start – 10             Finish – 12                          Laps Led – 0                        Owner’s Points – 6

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“The No. 33 WESCO Chevrolet was really fast yesterday in practice, but we just couldn’t get the handling the way we wanted it today in the race. I was too loose and the beginning of the run and I would need to be a lot tighter to carry the speed. We over corrected a little bit too much on that last stop and got way too tight at the end. I learned a lot today, which I’ll add it to the notebook for next year.”

Dillon Dominates in the Lone Star State

Ty Dillon and the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops team dominated at Texas Motor Speedway, leading for 130 of the 147 laps contested on Friday night before taking the checkered flag and making their second trip to victory lane this season. Starting from the third position, Dillon jumped to the inside line and battled three wide for the lead when the initial green flag was displayed. He gained control of the top spot off of turn two and led the first portion of the race. The Welcome, N.C., native drove off with more than a four-second lead on the second-place truck when the field was slowed on lap 59 for a caution period. Crew chief Marcus Richmond called the young driver to pit road for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment to keep the balance neutral on the black and orange machine. Dillon restarted second on the ensuing start, but was shuffled back to third once the green flag waved. He battled side-by-side for position through the course of the next three laps before taking back the top spot. The Richard Childress Racing driver settled into a rhythm and never looked back. Dillon crossed the finish line earning his second-career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory. Friday night’s win marks the 100th win for the No. 3 in RCR’s history.

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“This is awesome, we finally got a win at Texas (Motor Speedway). I’ve wanted to win the cowboy hat so bad. It’s the one race that I had to win. This No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet team is great. They were fast on pit road and worked really hard to put together a fast truck. It all paid off tonight when we pulled into Victory Lane. Marcus (Richmond, crew chief) made some great calls and kept us out front all night long. This was our race from the drop of the green flag. We’ve let too many wins get away this season; I wasn’t going to let this one get away. I’m so proud of this team and everyone at RCR, we couldn’t have done this without everyone’s help.”

MARCUS RICHMOND QUOTE:
“We’ve had some bad luck the last few weeks and after everything that happened last weekend, this was a great way to show how strong this Bass Pro Shops team really is. We work hard every week to put together good trucks. I know this team is capable of winning. We have a great driver and a strong work ethic. We showed that tonight, it’s an honor working for this organization and leading this No. 3 team.”

Gaughan Earns Top-Five Finish at Texas Motor Speedway

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino team finished fourth under the lights at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday night. Starting the 147-lap affair from the seventh position, the Las Vegas native competed within the top 10 of the running order, despite battling a condition that transitioned from loose to tight during the early laps. The pit crew made chassis adjustments during scheduled four-tire pit stops on laps 25, 60 and 101 in an effort to combat the handling issues. Armed with a well-handling machine, Gaughan was scored in the sixth position for the lap-106 restart and worked his way into fourth during the final laps, where he ultimately crossed the finish line.

Start – 7               Finish – 4              Laps Led – 0                        Points – 9th

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“Well, we weren’t as good tonight as we were during the spring race, but we still managed to pull off a pretty good run. Congratulations to my teammate Ty Dillon on his win. The RCR Chevrolets were really fast, but no one had anything for Ty tonight. Shane (Wilson, crew chief) and the South Point Hotel & Casino team did a great job; we just came up a few spots short.”

Menard Earns Hard-Fought 22nd-Place Finish at Martinsville Speedway

Starting from the 23rd position, Paul Menard and the No. 27 Turtle Wax/Menards team faced handling issues throughout the 263-mile event, earning a 23rd-place finish when the checkered flag flew at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday. In the early laps of the race, Menard fought a tight-handling condition causing him to fall a lap down to the leader on two separate occasions during the first 150 laps of the 500-lap affair. Two subsequent caution periods allowed Menard to be credited with the “Lucky Dog” pass, returning the No. 27 machine to the lead lap both times. The crew never gave up making an array of adjustments to the Turtle Wax/Menards Chevrolet during the ensuing pit stops in hopes of remedying the tight condition. The series of chassis and air pressure adjustments provided some relief to the Eau Claire, Wis., native and he was scored as high as 10th at lap 312. As the race progressed, the handling issues returned and a tight-handling car coupled with a late-race, green-flag run caused the Richard Childress Racing driver to fall a lap down to the leader with 25 laps to go. Running in 23rd, Menard fought until the very end and gained one position in the remaining laps to finish 22nd at Martinsville. He now sits 17th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings heading into Texas Motor Speedway.

Start – 23           Finish – 22          Laps Led – 0          Points – 17th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“It was a tough day for the No. 27 Turtle Wax/Menards crew. We struggled with handling issues for the majority of the day. We got better there in the middle of the race, but the tight condition came back at the end. I have to give my team credit though, they never gave up and made a variety of adjustments all day to try and get the car to handle better. We fought hard getting our lap back twice, but it just didn’t work out in our favor at the end.”

Harvick Finishes Sixth at Martinsville Speedway

Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 team salvaged a top-10 finish at Martinsville Speedway Sunday afternoon after starting from the 10th position and sustaining damage to the Rheem Chevrolet SS. The California native maintained a position within the top 15 for the majority of the race, until pitting for four tires and fuel on lap 328 under yellow-flag conditions. With varying pit strategies, Harvick was scored 21st for the ensuing restart. As green-flag racing resumed, the Richard Childress Racing driver worked his way back into the top 15, but alerted the team the red and black machine wouldn’t turn and the water pressure was beginning to fall. Crew chief Gil Martin called his driver to pit road on lap 367 for four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment. During the pit stop, the team discovered damage to the grille of the Chevrolet from an earlier on-track racing incident. The team kept on eye on the situation during the final laps as Harvick continued to work his way toward the front of the field, ultimately crossing the finish line sixth. Following Harvick’s 18th top-10 finish of the season, he now sits fourth in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, 28 markers out of the top spot.

Start – 10         Finish – 6         Laps Led – 0        Points – 4th

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:
“This was an interesting one. We fought all day, got the nose banged up there and had a little leak in the radiator, so it was kind of nerve wracking at the end. I want to apologize to Ryan Newman; I tried to shoot in a gap there and just barely clipped the right rear of his car. Gil (Martin, crew chief) and the Rheem team did a good job of adjusting the car from the little bang-up and we came away with a solid day.”

Burton Overcomes Early Race Spin to Finish 11th at Martinsville Speedway

Jeff Burton and the No. 31 Sleep Innovations Chevrolet team started the 500-lap race in 22nd place at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday afternoon. Once the initial green flag waved over the .526-mile oval under sunny skies, Burton appeared to be in for a long day when he was tapped from behind and spun on lap six. Suffering minimal damage to the left-rear quarter panel, he hit pit road where crew chief Luke Lambert instructed the pit crew to put on two right-side tires on the first stop under caution, assessed the damage, then pitted again for two left-side tires on the next lap. Restarting 35th on lap 19, Burton raced his way into the top-25 by lap 42 and kept moving forward in the running order. The big plus took place on lap 174 when Lambert and Burton decided to stay out under caution to gain track position. It worked in their favor as the Virginia native lined up in second place for the restart on lap 180. From there, Burton would remain in the top-10 for much of the remaining laps. He would run as high as third and a low of 13th on the scoring pylon during this portion. Utilizing no pit stops under caution several times, the No. 31 Chevrolet SS team maintained advantageous track position until the 475th circuit when Burton slipped to 11th. Radioing in that his car was too loose in the turns, he held on to that position when the checkered flag waved.

Start – 22       Finish – 11     Laps Led – 0        Points Position – 19th

JEFF BURTON QUOTE: “We had a bit of bump in our game plan with that spin early on, but were lucky the No. 31 Sleep Innovations Chevrolet didn’t get beat up too bad. We were able to race our way forward from there and then took advantage of pit strategy to gain track position. We held onto that for a good part of the race, but just got too loose at the end. Great job by Luke and the entire team on pit road today; that was some fun racing out there for Martinsville.”

Late-Race Tangle Relegates Dillon to 22nd-Place Finish at Martinsville

After being involved in a late-race incident with less than 10 laps to go at Martinsville Speedway, Ty Dillon and the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet team finished 22nd in the Kroger 200. Dillon started the 200-lap affair from the fifth position and reported his black and orange machine was too tight in the center of the corners. The Welcome, N.C., native moved into the fourth spot when a caution flag slowed the field on lap 69. Crew chief Marcus Richmond called Dillon to pit road for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment to combat the tight-handling racer. Quick work by the Bass Pro Shops team allotted Dillon the second spot for the ensuing restart on lap 76. Positioned in the outside line, Dillon was shuffled back to eighth. Maneuvering through the field, the 21-year-old driver improved to sixth by lap 120 and gained an additional two spots on pit road during a caution period on lap 127. Dillon restarted fourth and jumped to the lead after the green flag. He would continue to lead around the half-mile track for 16 circuits. With less than 10 laps remaining in the event, Dillon was making a charge for the lead when he was forced into another competitor from behind sending his Chevrolet into the outside wall. Sustaining heavy damage to the front end of the No. 3 truck, Dillon pitted multiple times to repair the damage. The late-race incident relegated the team to a 22nd-place finish and fell one position, to third, in the driver championship point standings.

Start – 5         Finish – 22         Laps Led – 16         Points – 3rd

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“That was an unfortunate ending to the race. This No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet team worked really hard and we had a fast truck. We could have had something there at the end, but we got caught up in that wreck. It’s really unfortunate. We’ll keep digging and head on to Texas (Motor Speedway).”

Gaughan Earns Runner-Up Finish at Martinsville Speedway

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino Chevrolet team earned a runner-up finish at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday afternoon, the Las Vegas native’s career-best finish at the Virginia-based short track. Starting from the 15th position, Gaughan maintained a spot within the top 20 during the first 70 laps of the 200-lap event while battling a loose-handling condition. Crew chief Shane Wilson called his driver to pit road on lap 71 under caution for four tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment in an effort to combat the handling issue Gaughan was facing. Back on track, the Richard Childress Racing driver began to slowly maneuver his way toward the front of the field settling into the top 10 by lap 107. As the race neared an end, Gaughan continued to compete within the top 10 until the field was slowed on lap 189 for a multi-truck incident that took place in front of the black and gold Chevrolet. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series veteran avoided the melee and lined up in the third position for the lap 195 restart and ultimately crossed the finish line in the second position. The runner-up finish allowed Gaughan to move up one position, to ninth, in the Camping World Truck Series driver championship point standings.

 Start-15         Finish-2         Laps Led-0         Points- 9th

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“Great job by the 54 team and congrats to them on their win today. I got into Jeb Burton at the end as I was going for the 54. We were just racing hard, and I was going for the win. I’ve always wanted to win at Martinsville (Speedway). There was such a great crowd here today, and I’m glad they got to see that battle at the end. I’m really proud of the South Point Hotel & Casino team, we had a top-five or sixth-place truck, but the guys in front of us took care of themselves and we got to battle for the win.”

Paul Menard Does it Right with a Fourth-Place Finish at Dega

Paul Menard and the No. 27 Menards/Duracell Chevrolet team started the 188-lap NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway from 34th place. The  reason he started there was because qualifying was rained out on Saturday, thus setting the starting lineup per the NASCAR rule book based off the first practice speeds on Friday. But, once the green flag waved over the 2.66-mile tri-oval, Menard wasted little time letting the other 42 competitors know he was there to race. Within the first three laps, he was up 17th when the first caution waved on that third circuit. With no need to pit, Menard started to get a feel of his Chevrolet SS and racing conditions running three and four wide around the high-banked track. Making two pit stops under green-flag conditions for four tires, fuel and chassis adjustments, the former ice racer ran in the top-five and top-10 positions for a large majority of the event.  A pit stop on lap 124, while running third, and another on lap 162 for right-side tires and fuel kept Menard and the Slugger Labbe-led team in contention. With 15 laps remaining, Menard had his neon yellow No. 27 in fifth place and would remain there until the white flag waved. As the field exited Turn 2, the third-place car got sideways and spun as the field roared onward. With the checkered and caution flag waving, Menard was, at first, credited with third, but post-race results showed he had finished fourth. This was his third top-five and ninth top-10 finish of the 2013 season, which moved him up one spot in the driver championship point standings to 16th place.

Start- 34                     Finish- 4                      Laps Led- 0          Points- 16th

Paul Menard Quote
: “This was just what this Menards/Duracell Chevrolet team needed. Our luck at restrictor-plate tracks hasn’t been too good this year. We were able to get up near the front and run there most of the race, which was good. The car was great and there at the end, we were all single file and nobody was going to make a move. We were waiting to see how would, I just know I wasn’t going to be the one. I’ve done that before, and it hasn’t worked out too well. ”

Harvick Finishes 12th at Talladega Superspeedway

After starting from the 33rd position and avoiding the infamous ‘Big One,’ Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 Jimmy John’s team finished 12th at Talladega Superspeedway. Following the strategy implemented by crew chief Gil Martin and the team before the race, the Richard Childress Racing driver laid back in the field during early stages of the race in an attempt to avoid the destruction that is synonymous with restrictor-plate racing. With roughly 50 laps remaining in the 188-lap affair, Harvick began working his way toward the front of the field  settling into the top five before making a final pit stop on lap 163 for right-side tires and fuel under green-flag conditions. The California native returned to the track without a drafting partner and fell as far back as 25th before crossing the finish line 12th. Following the sixth race in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Harvick is tied for third in the point standings, 26 markers out of the lead.

Start – 33         Finish – 12         Laps Led – 0        Points – Tied for 3rd

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:
“We got ourselves in position to be where we needed to be at the end of the race coming to the last pit stop and then lost everything that we gained when we couldn’t find a drafting partner when we came off of pit road. I just hate it for all our Jimmy John’s guys. We had a strategy that we stuck to and then we were just last off of pit road.”

Burton Finishes 21st at Talladega Superspeedway

Jeff Burton and the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet team finished in the 21st position at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday afternoon. Starting from the second position based on speeds from Friday’s first practice session after NASCAR officials were forced to cancel Saturday’s qualifying due to rain showers, the 21-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winner maintained a top-10 running position for the first part of the event. After coming to pit road for minor adjustments on a four-tire pit stop just before the halfway point of the event, the South Boston, Va., native reported that his black and yellow machine was loose and he dropped to the back of the field to avoid being caught up in the “Big One.” The Richard Childress Racing driver climbed back into the top 10 for a late-race run to the checkered flag, but Burton radioed to the Caterpillar pit crew that the rear-view mirror had fallen off the car and his peripheral vision was altered. Without the ability to see different lanes and maneuver with confidence, Burton was forced to stay in the back of the lead pack, but missed the multi-car accident on the final lap and crossed the finish line in 21st-place under caution-flag conditions. Burton remains 20th in the Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

Start – 2          Finish – 22          Laps Led – 0          Points – 20th

JEFF BURTON QUOTE:
“We had a strong No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet and could run in the front when we wanted. I couldn’t really go like I wanted to at the end when the mirror broke. It’s hard to be aggressive when you are not sure what’s next to you on the track.”

Dillon Finishes 14th at Talladega Superspeedway

Ty Dillon and the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops team finished 14th at Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday afternoon in the Fred’s 250 after leading for 26 laps. The Richard Childress Racing driver started the 94-lap event from the fourth position. With little help from a drafting partner, Dillon was shuffled back to the 20th spot by lap eight. A caution flag slowed the field on lap 20, and crew chief Marcus Richmond called the young driver to pit road for fuel. A quick stop by the Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet team gained Dillon six spots on pit road. Restarting from the second position on lap 24, Dillon found a drafting partner and took over the lead on lap 25. The Welcome, N.C., native maneuvered throughout the pack falling as far back as 26th and made his way back to the point position. After losing his main drafting partner on lap 79, Dillon was forced to find another truck to tandem race with. As fewer trucks remained on the racing surface because of wrecks, Dillon fell to the 17th spot before picking up his teammate Brendan Gaughan with three laps to go. However, he was unable to get back to the front and crossed the finish line in the 14th position.

Start – 4          Finish – 14          Laps Led – 26          Points – 2nd

TY DILLON QUOTE:
“This is a bittersweet finish. We had such a fast truck. The No. 3 Bass Pro Shops team worked really hard this weekend to give me a rocket ship. I hate that we lost our drafting partner (James Buescher). We worked really well together and could have been up there at the end to contend for the win. I just couldn’t get hooked back up with anyone to tandem back to the front in the final laps. There are a lot of wrecked trucks here today; I’m glad everyone is okay.”

Gaughan Avoids the ‘Big One’ and Finishes 11th at Talladega Superspeedway

Brendan Gaughan and the No. 62 South Point Hotel & Casino team brought home an 11th-place finish at Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday after avoiding the ‘Big One’ on the final lap. Starting from the eighth position, the Las Vegas native held a spot within in the top 20 before coming to pit road on lap 49 under green-flag conditions for right-side tires and fuel. Spending an extended period of time on pit road due to a right-front spring issue, Gaughan returned to the racing surface in the 33rd position, one lap down to the leader. When the yellow flag was displayed for the third time on lap 56, crew chief Shane Wilson directed the Richard Childress Racing driver to remain on track during the caution laps allowing him to take the ‘wave around’ and restart on the lead lap in the 29th position on lap 61. As the race came to a close, Gaughan worked his way into the top 15, and with the help of his spotter avoided the ‘Big One’ on the final lap to collect an 11th-place result. Following the 18th race of the season, Gaughan remains 10th in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver championship point standings.

Start – 8         Finish – 11          Laps Led – 0          Points – 10th

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:
“This wasn’t the finish the South Point Hotel & Casino team was looking for today. I tried pairing up with Ty (Dillon, teammate) at the end, but we just couldn’t get connected and make our way to the front before we ran out of laps. My guys did a great job all weekend and Stevie (Reeves, spotter) really did an amazing job talking me through that wreck at the end.”

Menard Finishes 24th at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Starting in the 13th position, Paul Menard finished 24th after an early incident on pit road put him behind in the event at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday night. The beginning laps of the race looked promising as Menard made his way into the top 10 at lap 20. Just a few laps later, the caution flag was displayed and the Eau Claire, Wis., native came down pit road for right-side tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment. While exiting pit road, Menard made contact with the No. 10 machine and was forced to come back down pit road for right-front fender repairs. Restarting in the 39th position on lap 29, the Richard Childress Racing driver quickly picked up 10 spots and was scored in 29th on lap 39. Long green-flag runs coupled with a tight-handling condition through the center and a loose-condition on exit of the corners caused Menard to fall two laps down to the leader by the halfway point of the 500-mile affair. Menard and crew never gave up making a variety of chassis adjustments on the ensuing pit stops, and by the latter stages of the event the No. 27 Duracell/Menards Chevrolet was running lap times as fast as the leader. Additional green-flag runs made it difficult for Menard to make up any ground, ultimately finishing 24th under the lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He remains 17th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings heading into Talladega Superspeedway.

Start – 13          Finish – 24          Laps Led – 0          Points – 17th

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:
“It was a tough night for the No. 27 Duracell/Menards crew. We got behind early with a pit road incident, and we just couldn’t make up any ground on the leader. We were in position a few times to get the “Lucky Dog” pass, but those long green-flag runs hurt us. We’ll move on and hope for a better run at Talladega (Superspeedway) next weekend.”

Harvick Picks Up Top-10 Finish Under the Lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Kevin Harvick and the No. 29 Jimmy John’s Chevrolet team finished sixth under the lights of Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday night, after starting on the front row and battling an ill-handling racecar throughout the majority of the 334-lap event. The California native started the fifth race of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup from the second position and maintained a spot within the top five during the early laps as he battled a loose-handling Chevrolet. Crew chief Gil Martin called Harvick down pit road on lap 26 for right-side tires, fuel and a chassis adjustment. Back on track, the Richard Childress Racing driver reported the car was still loose and the pit crew continued to work on the car’s handling during scheduled four-tire pit stops throughout the race. The team made one final round of adjustments during a four-tire pit stop on lap 308. Harvick was scored in the eighth position for the ensuing restart and moved up two spots to sixth before crossing the finish line. Following the 500-mile event, Harvick remains third in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings, 29 markers out of the top spot.

Start – 2         Finish – 6         Laps Led – 0         Points – 3rd

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:
“I have to thank everyone on this Jimmy John’s team tonight; they really had their work cut out for them. We struggled with the handling of our car all night and it’s a miracle that we were able to pull off a sixth-place finish. I am just really proud of this team right now.”

Burton Finishes 21st at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Jeff Burton and the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet team finished in 21st-place under the lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday night. Starting the 334-lap event from the 26th position, the 21-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winner battled a tight-handling condition on his black and yellow machine during the early laps, while maintaining a top-25 running position. Throughout the first part of the event, the South Boston, Va., native continued to battle with the ill-handling machine while the Luke Lambert-led Caterpillar pit crew made chassis and air pressure adjustments on multiple four-tire pit stops. The Richard Childress Racing driver eventually cracked the top 20 on lap 192 and recorded strong lap times during long green-flag runs. Maintaining the top-20 running position over the final 100 laps, Burton took the “wave around” pass under a late-race caution-flag period and was scored one lap down to the leader on the final restart of the evening with 23 laps remaining. Hoping for one more caution-flag period, the 46-year-old driver was forced to bring his Chevrolet SS to the attention of the Caterpillar pit crew for gas only with five laps remaining so he wouldn’t run out of fuel and ultimately crossed the finish line in the 21st position. Burton now sits 20th in the Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings.

Start – 26          Finish – 21          Laps Led – 0          Points – 20th

JEFF BURTON QUOTE:
“It was a tough night for the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet team as a tight-handling condition plagued us all evening. We tried to play some strategy near the end, but it didn’t work out in our favor. We will be ready for a strong weekend at Talladega Superspeedway.”

Scott Earns a 27th-Place Finish in His NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Debut
at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Brian Scott earned a 27th-place finish in his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut after battling an extremely loose condit
ion throughout the 500-mile event. The 25-year-old driver qualified his No. 33 Shore Lodge Chevrolet SS in the 19th position to start the 334-lap race. Scott reported to crew chief Scott Naset that he was battling a loose-handling car all the way around the 1.5-mile speedway. The evening’s first caution-flag waved on lap 24, allowing Scott to bring his black and white machine to the attention of the pit crew for routine service and a chassis adjustment. Green-flag racing resumed on lap 27 with the Richard Childress Racing driver in the 27th position. Through the course of the evening, the field had multiple lengthy green-flag runs, while Scott continued to battle an extremely loose-handling condition. With each visit to pit road, the crew continued to make multiple chassis adjustments to alleviate the handling issues. On lap 226, the Boise, Idaho, native came to pit road under green-flag conditions for four tires, fuel and more chassis adjustments. After pit stops cycled through, he was scored 25th in the running order. As the race progressed, Scott became more comfortable behind the wheel while running lap times comparable to those on the lead lap. In the closing laps, he battled with the competitors on his lap for position before ultimately taking the checkered flag in the 27th position.

Start – 19          Finish – 27          Laps Led – 0          Points – N/A

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“Man that was a long race. I hate that we didn’t start off better. We probably would have gone a lap down  anyhow, but definitely could have finished inside the top 20 if we started the way we ended the race. We were too loose at the beginning and chased that for a better part of the night. I learned a lot, had fun and can’t thank everyone at Richard Childress Racing and Shore Lodge enough for their support tonight.”

Brian Scott Finishes 12th Under the Lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Brian Scott and the No. 2 Charter Media team finished 14th under the lights at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Friday evening’s Dollar General 300. Scott started the 200-lap event from the 11th position and maintained a spot within the top 15 while battling a severe tight condition through the opening segment of the event. Through the course of the evening, Scott climbed as high as seventh, until the caution-flag flew on lap 111. While exiting his pit stall under the caution period, the 25-year-old Richard Childress Racing driver made contact with another competitor costing the driver valuable positions on pit road. As the laps wound down, the Charter Media Chevrolet driver kept his focus on improving his position ultimately bringing home a 12th-place finish.

Start – 11         Finish – 12         Laps Led – 0         Points – 7th

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:
“We had a strong Charter Media Chevrolet tonight, but just had a lot of bad luck on pit road and slight damage that caused the handling to go away midpoint in the race. We got trapped in by the No. 01 and suffered damage, then on track our right side skirt got ripped off. All in all, not the greatest night. We’ll look at everything and move on to Texas (Motor Speedway) in a couple weeks after a few off weeks.”

Kevin Harvick Finishes Fourth at Charlotte Motor Speedway
in his 300th NASCAR Nationwide Series Start

Kevin Harvick and the No. 33 Fast Fixin’ Chevrolet team captured a fourth-place finish in the Dollar General 300 Friday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway after leading laps and battling handling issues throughout the 200-lap event. Starting from the 10th position, the California native found speed in his Richard Childress Racing machine moving into the top five by lap three. Harvick maintained his position toward the front of the pack during the early laps as he battled a tight-handling Chevrolet. The Fast Fixin’ pit crew made adjustments to the car during scheduled four-tire pit stops on laps 51 and 90 that allowed the two-time NASCAR Nationwide Series champion to drive to the front and take over the race lead on lap 105. Harvick paced the field for eight circuits before coming to pit road for right-side tires and fuel under caution. Varying pit strategies placed the No. 33 machine in eighth for the lap 117 restart. Harvick quickly returned to the top five in the running order and remained near the front of the field until misfortune struck on pit road in the form of a dropped lug nut on the left-front tire, costing the team valuable track position. Lining up seventh for the ensuing restart, the RCR driver persevered during the final laps working his way back into the top five, while continuing to battle a tight-handling condition, and brought home a fourth-place finish in his 300th Nationwide Series start.

Start – 10         Finish – 4         Laps Led – 8         Owner Points – 6th

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTE:
“I’m proud of everyone on our Fast Fixin’ Chevrolet team tonight. We had a great car, but had a little trouble on pit road at the end that cost us a few spots on the track. The team worked really hard and we were able to make up some ground, but still came up a little bit short.”
