BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (Aug. 24) — JEGS.com driver Troy Coughlin Jr. will take the battle for the Super Comp national and divisional championships to Beech Bend Raceway Park this weekend for the North Central Division NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Finals.

After a semifinal finish in the Division 1 race at Cecil County Dragway, Coughlin sits fourth in the national Lucas Oil Series points standings and leads the Division 3 standings.

“It’s still pretty early,” Coughlin said. “You look at the points, but you don’t really need to put it in the back of your mind. It’s the fun part of Sportsman racing, but it’s still pretty early. This is a pivotal point in the year. Guys we’re competing against, like Phil Smida, he’s pretty close behind me, and he’s an extremely good driver. You can’t count your chickens too early.” Continue reading JEGS.com driver Troy Coughlin Jr. takes Sportsman points battles to Beech Bend

Best run of 2016 has Jeg Coughlin Jr. qualified in top half of Seattle field
SEATTLE (Aug. 6) — Jeg Coughlin Jr. and his Magneti Marelli offered by Mopar/JEGS.com Dodge Dart team have clearly taken steps forward in their quest for NHRA glory, but it’s not as simple as that in the Pro Stock world.

Sometimes, as a team finds more horsepower, adjustments to the tune-up are called for, and that can take time and many, many runs. Continue reading Best run of 2016 has Jeg Coughlin Jr. qualified in top half of Seattle field

After runner-up at last year’s Seattle race, Jeg Coughlin Jr. looking to take final step
SEATTLE (Aug. 1) — A highlight of Jeg Coughlin Jr.’s three-race debut with Elite Motorsports last season was the five-time Pro Stock champion’s runner-up finish at the NHRA stop in Seattle. At this year’s 29th annual ProtectTheHarvest.com NHRA Northwest Nationals presented by Lucas Oil, Coughlin is hoping to take his Magneti Marelli offered by Mopar/JEGS.com Dodge Dart one step farther and end the day in the winner’s circle.

“Our goal is to try and be a little more aggressive earlier in the weekend and give ourselves some real momentum going into Sunday, no matter where we end up qualified,” Coughlin said. “Quite honestly, we were never really quite there last weekend in Sonoma (Calif.), and in our postrace shakedown we have decided we are just going to try to prepare a little more aggressively and take our chances. A third Sonoma victory will have to wait for Pro Stock champ Jeg Coughlin Jr.
SONOMA, Calif. (July 31) — Drag races at the professional level are routinely decided by fractions of a second, and depending which side of the equation you’re on, that can be a good or bad thing. For five-time Pro Stock world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr., it seems like ages since the racing gods have smiled on him and his Magneti Marelli offered by Mopar/JEGS.com Dodge Dart.

Such was the case early Sunday afternoon when Coughlin’s opening-round pass of 6.603 seconds at 209.39 mph left him just a fraction behind Chris McGaha’s 6.593 at 209.88 mph — a pesky difference of one-hundredth of a second in elapsed times. Five-time champ Jeg Coughlin Jr. says Pro Stock could hit season records in Sonoma
SONOMA, Calif. (July 25) — If weather conditions are agreeable when the NHRA tour arrives at Sonoma Raceway this weekend for the Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals, five-time Pro Stock world champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. says the record book could have a couple of new entries.

“It really comes down to what Mother Nature deals the Pro Stock cars,” Coughlin said. “We typically get very high pressure there barometer-wise. On those cool days, the track is tight and the air is crisp and clean. If we get that this time it’s likely we see the modern-day national record fall for Pro Stock, with the new 10,500 rpm and fuel-injection rules coming into play. I’m looking forward to this happening, and maybe we can give it a poke.” Continue reading Five-time champ Jeg Coughlin Jr. says Pro Stock could hit season records in Sonoma

Untimely exit for Jeg Coughlin Jr. at Mopar Mile-High Nationals

Untimely exit for Jeg Coughlin Jr.
at Mopar Mile-High Nationals
DENVER (July 24) — What happens on Friday and Saturday definitely affects what happens on Sunday in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, and it may have contributed to an early ouster for five-time Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. at the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals on Sunday at Bandimere Speedway.

Coughlin qualified No. 8 for the 16-car field, but he could have been much higher with his Magneti Marelli offered by Mopar/JEGS.com Dodge Dart. The best weather conditions came Friday and Saturday night after rain delays pushed qualifying later into the evening, but Coughlin and his team couldn’t take advantage and get a quicker elapsed time and higher qualifying spot, so on Sunday he had to face a tough opponent in No. 9 qualifier Vincent Nobile, and it cost him. Five-time champ Jeg Coughlin Jr. makes progress in the Windy City
CHICAGO (July 9) — Progress can sometimes be painstakingly slow in the Pro Stock class, but Jeg Coughlin Jr. and his Elite Motorsports team are taking steps in the right direction.

Coughlin qualified his Magneti Marelli offered by Mopar/JEGS.com Dodge Dart in the No. 11 position for the K&N Filters Route 66 NHRA Nationals on Saturday at Route 66 Raceway, but the five-time Pro Stock champion knows the gap has been narrowed to the top teams in the class.

Coughlin’s best qualifying pass was 6.637 seconds at 207.82 mph, though he was less than four-hundredths of a second from the No. 4 spot despite not making the most of that pass. Continue reading Five-time champ Jeg Coughlin Jr. makes progress in the Windy City
