DANICA PATRICK, NO. 10 MOBIL 1/ASPEN DENTAL CHEVROLET SS – Joins Sprint All-Star Race line-up via Fan Vote:

“I have great fans. I know I didn’t make it in last year, but I heard that they voted even more last year than the year before that and so I’m sure that this year was nothing different. I think I got close at the end and they came through. They always come through. I am lucky to have such great fans.

“I just really hope that we can learn enough tonight to make the car better tomorrow so that we can start throughout the segments because I think there are like five, right? Sometimes we might stay out. Maybe we’ll only take two (tires). Maybe only fuel. It would be cool to be able to have a car good enough to march our way forward and then ultimately see how good we can get it for the 600. But, thanks to Sprint, too, for giving this platform for a driver like myself who has great fans but didn’t win the race to get in. That’s my ultimate goal. We’re working toward it but these things all help. All the laps on track help.”

HOW GREAT WOULD IT BE TO WIN AFTER BEING VOTED-IN BY YOUR FANS?
“That would be the ultimate. There is nothing better than redeeming yourself for not racing your way in, by winning it. That would be the best-best case scenario. To be honest, even cooler to get voted in and then win. So, that would be great. I think it’s going to be tough. But, anything can happen; especially in this crazy format.”

KASEY KAHNE AND KEITH RODDEN, NO 5 TIME WARNER CABLE CHEVROLET SS met with media and discussed strategy for the All-Star Race, the new format, having a good start to the season, the recent test at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the possible 2016 package, and more. Full Transcript:

WITH A MILLION DOLLARS ON THE LINE, AND STRATEGY ALWAYS PLAYING A BIG ROLE IN THE ALL-STAR RACE, DO YOU HAVE A GAME PLAN FOR TOMORROW NIGHT?
KAHNE: “Yeah, I think there definitely is. I think you have to qualify pretty well, first and you want to try to start as close to the front as you can to get as many points throughout those rounds as possible. But I think also where you’re running on the track kind helps you decide your strategy. And that’s what Keith and our engineers will do throughout the race. They’ll figure that out. My job is to just go as hard as you can every lap and pass the car in front of you.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Charlotte Sprint Showdown–Kasey Kahne

JIMMIE JOHNSON WINS AT KANSAS
Team Chevy is Strong with 1-2-3-4 Finish

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – (May 9, 2015) – Smart pit calls, strategy changes, and multiple race car adjustments were the keys to victory for Jimmie Johnson and his No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet SS in the SpongeBob SquarePants 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway.

The win was Johnson’s 73rd career victory, third at the 1.5-mile track, and third win of the season for the six-time champion in a race that was red-flagged for more than two hours due to rain. Johnson took the lead on lap 256 of the 267-lap event when crew chief, Chad Knaus, opted to skip a pit stop in exchange for track position. Johnson was able to hold off a hard charge by current Sprint Cup champion, Kevin Harvick in his No. 4 Jimmy John’s/Budweiser Chevy SS, who finished second. “I think experience helps. You just shrug it off. We are trying so hard to get our qualifying under control. We put a huge effort into it again. To be 19th was just … really stunk it wasn’t any fun. These guys just work so hard. I’m so proud of everybody at Lowe’s, KOBALT, Chevrolet, Valvoline, Gatorade, the fans, Sprint for this great series. Just a long hard night of racing and fighting for track position, once we got up front we were able to hang on the final eight or nine laps.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Kansas–Post Race Notes

YOU HAD GRAHAM RAHAL BEHIND YOU, AND YOU HAD TO HIT YOUR FUEL NUMBER. HOW HARD WAS THAT LAST STINT? “That was hard when (Tim Cindric, Penske Racing President and No. 1 car race strategist) told me the number I had to hit, and then that Rahal was closing. It was really hard. I was trying to save in the spots where we wouldn’t lose time and push like hell in the other areas. That’s the most physical race I think I’ve ever done. It never stopped. I was so determined to win that I didn’t want anything to go wrong. I didn’t want to get caught out by a yellow and wanted a clean race, and that’s exactly what we got. I’m really happy for the guys on the Verizon car. It’s pretty special to win here.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–Grand Prix of Indianapolis

TALK ABOUT KROGER’S LONG-TERM COMMITMENT AND WHAT THAT MEANS TO YOU AND THE TEAM AND THE PROGRAM YOU’RE DEVELOPING
“It’s through a lot of hard work by (team owner) Tad (Geschickter). I really haven’t done anything. Tad Geschickter is really amazing when it comes to picking up sponsors and making sure each sponsors works with each other well. Obviously a lot of our sponsors connect with each other. To have Kroger, a Fortune 500 company, that’s been a part of this race team at the Daytona 500 for a few years now; and to have them come on board and really step-up the program just shows the confidence they have in us and the confidence they have in Tad, and the fact that they like me, which is shocking, and I was pretty excited about that. YOU ALMOST LOST IT A COUPLE TIMES IN PRACTICE, AND THAT STAYS WITH YOU BUT HOW DO YOU COME OUT HERE AND OVERCOME THAT TO PUT IT ON THE FRONT ROW?
“Well, I know we have a good team and we are making the right adjustments to get the car a little more on the race track. But in practice we were sliding around a little more than you want when you are running as much throttle as we are for qualifying runs. Either way we had a great Great Clips Chevrolet right there and kept picking up each run. Our last one was our best one, but it wasn’t enough. It was a really good lap and my best lap of the day so I feel good about that and what we are bringing tomorrow night. We had some good practices today and Keith Rodden (crew chief) and the guys are doing a really nice job and hopefully we can bring that again tomorrow night.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Kansas–Kasey Kahne

It just shows the team has done a great job with the car. All teammates in the Fast Six, too. We’re pushing each other hard. Got the Ganassi boys there knocking on the door all the time. Got our work cut out for us. Just really happy to be on pole. Qualifying’s a day where you put absolutely everything on the line. It’s my favorite part of the weekend. Well, no, actually it’s winning on Saturday or Sunday is definitely my favorite part.

“It’s huge… very big. It’s one down and three sessions where I want to be P1 to go: the Grand Prix tomorrow, qualifying for the oval and obviously the 500.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–Grand Prix of Indianapolis

YOU HAD A SPECIAL VISIT AFTER YOU WIN AT TALLADEGA IN COLUMBUS, OHIO AT THE NATIONWIDE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL. TALK ABOUT THAT EXPERIENCE:
“It was a real eye opener to see all the things going on there. It’s a huge place. Nationwide has put over 50 million dollars into the hospital. They are a huge supporter of the hospital there in Columbus. I got to meet a lot of the kids. We went into where they deal with head injuries and spinal injuries and met with a lot of kids there. Had one kid, Thomas, he was going home that day. They had a little graduation party for him and everything so that was all very fun. We played some video games. We went over to the unit where all the premature babies are and saw all the work they are doing there. They can take babies as early as 22 weeks and nurse them to health and send them home. They were saying five years ago they wouldn’t even attempt it with a child that premature. They are just making a lot of great advances. I learned a lot. I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to get a tour. It’s the kind of thing that inspires you. We have our foundation back home that we are always trying to improve on how we do things and what we get ourselves involved in. And how we can make a broader and more important impact, so trips like that certainly will inspire you and give you opportunities to get more creative.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Kansas–Dale Earnhardt Jr.
