Giovanni Scelzi Ties Career-Best Outlaws Finish at Eldora Before Making Kings Royal Main Event

Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (July 25, 2019) – Giovanni Scelzi tied his career-best World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series result at Eldora Speedway and he made the Kings Royal main event to highlight a busy week at the half-mile oval.

Scelzi piloted his family owned race car during four straight nights at the track last week. He made the main event each night, but pulled off the track early in the feature on both Wednesday and Thursday.

“We started slow just squeaking into features,” he said. “When you run in the back you get lapped quick and when I get lapped I pull in not to be in anyone’s way or to be putting more time on your car and engine. I would want that courtesy out of other drivers so I feel like it’s the right decision when it’s just not your night.”

It clicked for the team on Friday as Scelzi qualified 10th quickest in his group. He advanced a position in a heat race to finish third, which locked him into the 13th starting position for the A Main.

“That place is hard to pass on unless you have a really, really good race car,” he said. “On Friday we changed some things and made it through our heat race. We did a better job throughout the night and moved forward. It was good to get a top 10 at Eldora. Those aren’t easy to come by.”

Scelzi scored a ninth-place finish, tying his best Outlaws result at the track. It also gave him momentum entering the Kings Royal on Saturday.

Scelzi kicked off the spectacle by qualifying seventh quickest out of more than 60 drivers. He then powered from fifth to third place in a heat race to make the prestigious main event. Scelzi capped the night with a 12 th-place run in the A Main.

“It was redemption in a way to make that show,” he said. “Out of the races I did last year with Bernie (Stuebgen) that was the only one I missed. Our car worked better up against the fence, but you create more tire heat. You run the car harder and it’s easier to crash. I really didn’t need the red to come out with 15 laps to go. I settled in and was trucking pretty good.

“We improved throughout the weekend. Making the show every night was a goal and we accomplished that.”
