Dominic Scelzi Venturing to Santa Maria Saturday for First Time Since 2015

Inside Line Promotions – WATSONVILLE, Calif. (July 25, 2019) – Dominic Scelzi is excited to return to Santa Maria Raceway this Saturday for a King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series event.

It marks the first time that Scelzi has been to the bullring in Nipomo, Calif., since running second during a KWS-NARC race in September 2015.

“We’re looking forward to going back there,” he said. “It’s a small quarter mile. I ran ninth in 2012 during an ASCS National Tour event and then second the last time I was there so we’ve produced good results.”

The Roth Motorsports driver ranks fifth in the championship standings – only 19 points out of the lead – entering Saturday’s race, which marks the midpoint of the season.

Scelzi is aiming for a positive run following a frustrating weekend at Ocean Speedway, where he was unable to start the Civil War Sprint Car Series main event on Friday because of mechanical woes.

Scelzi had a better outing going on Saturday during the KWS-NARC show. He qualified fifth quickest and placed fourth in a heat race to line up seventh for the main event.

“I got into fourth with about eight laps to go when we got involved in a crash,” he said. “Me, Justin Sanders and Jonathan Allard were racing. I slid them both into turn two. Sanders got beneath me. I went to slide him into turn three and Allard tried to slide both of us and it didn’t work out. We got stuck together and it ripped my nose wing off. We had to restart at the back and got passed some cars. It wasn’t the result we wanted, but it was a racing deal.”

Scelzi rebounded for a 12th-place result.
