Giovanni Scelzi Maneuvers to Top-Five Finish During World of Outlaws World Finals

Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 6, 2018) – Giovanni Scelzi closed the regular season with a strong run last Saturday during the World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

Scelzi rallied for his 20th top five of the season and his fourth during World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series action at an event that featured more than 50 competitors.

“I thought that was really good,” he said. “I want to thank Bernie and Betsy Stuebgen for a great year as well as Brandon Hickman and Brandon Ikenberry for their hard work all weekend. To go forward and end with a top five, the season finale couldn’t have gone much better.”

Scelzi qualified 10th quickest in his group for Friday’s show and sixth quickest for Saturday’s program during the opening night of action last Thursday. He then advanced from fourth to third place in a heat race on Friday before the feature was postponed until Saturday afternoon because of the curfew.

“It was a day show and we struggled racing around cars,” he said. “We never really got going anywhere. It was hard to get rolling and we didn’t get a good restart so we kind of rode around. I really needed to get in clean air.”

Scelzi finished 15th, but he rebounded strong in the nightcap. He placed second in a heat race to make a dash. A sixth-place result in the dash lined him up 11th for the main event.

“I kept around the bottom,” he said. “We tried some different stuff with the car and it worked. We tried it during the Tuscarora 50 the previous week and it worked so we tried it Saturday and we were able to make speed. It was a great night.”

Scelzi used a last-lap pass to secure a fifth-place result.
