Dominic Scelzi Qualifies for Both World Finals Main Events

Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 6, 2018) – Dominic Scelzi made both main events last weekend during his first visit to the World of Outlaws World Finals since his debut in 2015.

Scelzi, who was driving for Bernie Stuebgen, was one of more than 50 drivers to invade The Dirt Track at Charlotte for the marquee World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event. The action began on Thursday when Scelzi qualified 12th quickest in his group for Friday’s event and ninth quickest for Saturday’s show.

Friday began with a seventh-place run in a heat race. Scelzi followed that by moving forward from sixth to fourth place in the Last Chance Showdown to garner a transfer into the back of the main event, which was held on Saturday afternoon because of curfew on Friday night.

“The track was really slick,” he said. “I made my way up to about 12 th. With five laps to go a yellow came out. I must have run something over because we got a slash in the right rear tire. It was a bummer because we were right there with the top 10. I felt like we could have snuck into the top 10.”

Scelzi was unable to finish the race and he was credited with a 25 th-place finish.

The event concluded Saturday evening with Scelzi finishing third in a heat race to lock directly into the 18th starting position in the main event.

“The cushion was really fast around the wall,” he said. “It seemed like every decision I made on the track was the wrong decision. If there was a lane open on the top I’d have to lift. That’s one of those things where you have to make split-second decisions and sometimes they don’t pay off. That’s just part of racing”

Scelzi finished 18th.

“I want to thank Bernie and Betsy for the opportunity as well as well as Brandon Hickman and Brandon Ikenberry for their hard work,” he said. “I also want to thank my parents for allowing me to use one of our family motors to use in the car.”
