Giovanni Scelzi Seeking First Win of Season This Weekend During Peter Murphy Classic

Inside Line Promotions – FRESNO, Calif. (May 15, 2018) – Giovanni Scelzi is climbing back into his family owned, Roth Motorsports supported No. 41 this weekend during the 5th annual Peter Murphy Classic.

Scelzi will invade Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., on Friday with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour and on Saturday with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series.

“After racing at tracks I’m not familiar with the last few of weeks it feels like I’m coming home,” he said. “Thunderbowl Raceway has always been a place I’ve been comfortable at for some reason.”

Scelzi has competed at the bullring once this season. He set quick time during his group’s qualifying session, even establishing the track record before another driver narrowly broke it, before placing 11th in the A Main during a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event in March. It was his career-best World of Outlaws finish.

“Every night you learn something, especially when you race with the World of Outlaws and top drivers,” he said. “I’m still new to 410 racing and am always learning with the car and on the race track.”

Scelzi was victorious at Thunderbowl Raceway last year.

“I remember we were good all night,” he said. “We got the lead right away and never looked back. Hopefully the track gets slick and wide this weekend. There will be a lot of cars and a lot of good drivers so it should be a great event.”

Scelzi’s best Sprint Car Challenge Tour finish this season is a third-place run and his season-best King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series result is eighth.
