Giovanni Scelzi Places Fourth During KWS-NARC Season Finale at Stockton

Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (Nov. 13, 2017) – Giovanni Scelzi recorded his 19th top-five finish of the season last Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track during the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series season finale.

Scelzi and the Roth Motorsports team kicked off the Tribute to Gary Patterson race by qualifying ninth quickest overall after being the last car out for qualifying. Scelzi then won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row to earn a spot in the dash, in which he advanced from seventh to sixth place to start the A Main on the outside of the third row.

“On the initial start I got by Bud Kaeding before I drove by Shane Golobic for fourth,” he said. “I slid Tim Kaeding on a restart and got up to third. He got back by me and then Kyle Hirst got around me so that put me back to fifth.”

Scelzi gained a position late in the race when his brother, Dominic, was involved in a crash. Giovanni Scelzi restarted fourth and finished in that position.

“I never really got into a rhythm,” he said. “The track was wide open around the cushion, but there was some grip toward the bottom. There was enough real estate to win it. We just didn’t capitalize on it.”

Scelzi finished second in the championship standings – only one point out of the title. Here is a link to watch the main event: https://youtu.be/HOTIwz-1wXA.

“Looking at the big picture, we weren’t thinking we were going to run a full schedule at the start of the year,” he said. “It went from running a few races to the full schedule. It was a big learning curve this year and I’m grateful for Dennis and Teresa Roth providing me the opportunity to race.

“We won a few races and were competitive every time we hit the track. To think we would battle for the championship until the final race of the year and come up only one point short is pretty remarkable. This year was a big confidence boost for me and I owe a lot of gratitude to everyone at Roth Motorsports for their support.”

Scelzi will wrap up the season Nov. 24-25 at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz., for the Copper Classic with the ASCS Southwest Region. He will pilot an entry for BDS Motorsports during the doubleheader.
