Scelzi Produces Runner-Up Result at Ocean Speedway With KWS-NARC Series

Inside Line Promotions – WATSONVILLE, Calif. (Oct. 10, 2017) – Dominic Scelzi earned his seventh podium of the season and his fourth top-five result in the last five races on Friday at Ocean Speedway.

Scelzi and his family owned, Roth Motorsports supported team kicked off the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series event by qualifying ninth quickest around the bullring.

“We went out early and the track was so wet,” he said. “It wasn’t greasy, but it was the most hooked up you could get a race track. It was so locked down I couldn’t keep the front tires on the ground.”

Scelzi finished where he started in both a heat race – second – and the dash – fifth – to put himself in striking position for the main event, which he started on the inside of the third row.

“It was so hard to pass in the heats and dash,” he said. “About five to six laps into the main event it started widening out. I was running the bottom on both ends. I was able to get to third. Then the track started getting slick in turns one and two and in turns three and four it developed a hole. A lot of guys were running below it and I made up a lot of time running above it.”

Scelzi advanced into second place with approximately 10 laps to go.

“I had an awesome battle with another driver for second for two or three laps,” he said. “It was really good racing. Then I got used up. Luckily it wasn’t worse and we only fell to third. When he caught the leader I was on both their bumpers going into turn one with two laps to go. They made contact and the leader flipped. While I gained a position, the red hurt me. I felt like I had a good shot at getting them both and stealing a win.”

Scelzi lined up second for the green-white-checkered restart, but the leader was able to take advantage of the clean air. Scelzi’s runner-up result gives him a podium at six different tracks this season. Here is a link to watch the main event: https://youtu.be/C0b0p6PQmbs.

He is slated to compete this Saturday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif., with the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series.
