QUOTABLE QUOTES:
KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 TARGET CHEVROLET SS – 2ND IN STANDINGS
“I always look forward to going to Indy. We race at a lot of really cool tracks throughout the season, but there’s definitely something special about Indy. The history and events that have taken place there make it a really unique place. Our team also has a lot of history there, on both the IndyCar and NASCAR side, so it’s a track where we definitely want to run well. Our Target Chevy has been really strong this season, and we’ve handled some setbacks without really losing any speed, so I’m excited for a good car this weekend. We’ve been good in the past at the Brickyard, so I’m hoping we can end the weekend by kissing the bricks.”

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 24 NAPA CHEVROLET SS – 6TH IN STANDINGS
IS INDY ONE OF THE MORE DIFFICULT TRACKS ON THE CIRCUIT?
“It has been for me. I haven’t had a whole lot of success there at all really in anything from Xfinity races I ran there to the last two Cup races we have ran there have not been very sporty. It’s a tough place. We had a good test there last year and went back and didn’t really see any of that same success. Jimmie (Johnson) tested there this year, so hopefully he learned some good things that we can take back.”

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S CHEVROLET SS – 9TH IN STANDINGS
“Indy no doubt is a special track. It would be so special to get a fifth win there- that track has shown me the high of highs and the low of lows in my career. We tested there in April and it was a challenging test session. The cars will be very loose into the corner. I feel like we were the best car at the test session so I hope when we unload on Saturday it’s an advantage for this Lowe’s team.”

RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 31 VELVEETA SHELLS & CHEESE CHEVROLET SS – 16TH IN STANDINGS
“It’s the Brickyard. It’s the history of motorsports in America. It’s that yard of bricks. It’s a special place when you think about everyone who’s been there associated with F1, IndyCars, motorcycles and NASCAR. It’s unique because of the four corners, the long straightaways and the flatness. To me, it’s just unique in so many ways. It’s a fun place to drive and yet, it’s quite a challenge at the same time.”

AUSTIN DILLON, NO. 3 DOW MOLYKOTE SMART LUBRICANT CHEVROLET SS – 20th IN STANDINGS
“Yeah, it is. You never know what to expect going to Indy until you get there and then you’ve got to get comfortable and really get in a rhythm. It’s a rhythm track if you ask me. It’s really about how you pick up the gas and how you roll back to the gas is a lot of rhythm to that track. Tires usually wear out pretty good. If you can make them last on a long run it’s a good day.”

DALE EARNHARDT, JR., NO. 88 NATIONWIDE CHEVROLET SS – 21st IN STANDINGS
“We have to win, so we have to gamble when we can. That (last weekend’s race at NHMS) is not the last time you’re going to see that kind of gamble from us before the playoffs. We’re going to Indy this weekend and that’s what we’re working on in the simulator this week. This is not a long-run sport anymore, so you have to have that early speed to be able to get anything done and get up through the field. You’re not going to get those long green-flag runs to take advantage of a long-run car.”

KASEY KAHNE, NO. 5 UNIFIRST CHEVROLET SS – 22ND IN STANDINGS
“It’s such a tough race to win. Track position has gotten to the point where it’s everything at Indianapolis. Indy just isn’t what it used to be in 2004 and 2005, even in 2006. I came from the back in 2004 and during the last half of the race – you could actually pass pretty easy when you had a good car. You could run the outside lane or the inside. Now you have about two inches and if you miss those two inches in the center of the corner, you really have to be watching behind yourself because you’re probably going to get passed. It’s still a race I really want to win because it has so much history and it’s how I got all of my racing going. I watched all of the races there for Formula 1, IndyCar and NASCAR and I also raced all around the Indy area for three straight years.”

PAUL MENARD, NO. 27 VALVOLINE/MENARDS CHEVROLET SS – 23RD IN STANDINGS
“Indianapolis is just extremely narrow and there are such high speeds down the straightaways and 90-degree corners at the end of each straightaway. You actually don’t use as much brake as you think you should, but you still have to get the car slowed down and try to find clean air to make passes.”

TY DILLON, NO. 13 GEICO CHEVROLET SS – 24TH IN STANDINGS
“Indianapolis Motor Speedway is definitely a tough track because it’s so big but the corners are flat. It’s a giant rectangle. I’ve been successful there in the Xfinity Series, so I am really looking forward to going there for the first time in the GEICO Chevrolet SS in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The unique challenge of Indy is making those long straightaways longer and making turns two and four kind of extended straightaways. You can give up a little bit of speed coming off of one and three to extend the straightaways off of two and four. First, I focus on turns two and four, to get back to the throttle as soon as possible, then, as the weekend goes on, I work on carrying a bit more speed into one and three and that’s kind of my strategy for how to end up having a pretty good race car there.”

MICHAEL MCDOWELL, NO. 95 WRL GENERAL CONTRACTORS CHEVROLET SS – 25TH IN STANDINGS
“Indy is a tough weekend. It’s a monumental place to go to. The atmosphere and just overall feel of the weekend is big and much like the Daytona 500 for us. It’s hot, it’s a hard race, and it’s just an all-out challenging weekend! The track and weather change a lot, and it’s a track where you feel like you have the least amount of time, because it’s not one we go to twice. I feel like it’s a track that takes a while to get used to, so we will definitely make the most out of each practice session. It’s the Brickyard – it’s a big race!”

CHRIS BUESCHER, NO. 37 CLOROX CHEVROLET SS – 26TH IN STANDINGS
“Indy is unique. It’s going to be hot and it’s just a different style of race track. I miss ORP (O’Reilly Raceway Park). Indy will be interesting I guess with the aero package. I don’t remember a whole lot from last year’s race. I remember on the Xfinity side with the real high drag package how brutally hot it got inside the cars during that. You know we will have to see. It was interesting last year to see the people there that were fast and how they were driving the track. How early they were lifting and just letting it roll into the corners into (Turns) 1 and 3. We will study a little bit and see if we can’t be a little better than the last time I was there.”

AJ ALLMENDINGER, NO. 47 KROGER/CLICKLIST CHEVROLET SS – 27TH IN STANDINGS
“Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the brickyard, one of those places whether you are a race fan or not, all you have to do is mention the name Indianapolis they know what it’s all about. A place where I got to lead the Indianapolis 500, one of the most special moments I’ve ever had in my life. It’s one of those places that if you are able to pull into Victory Lane you’ve done something pretty incredible, something you can put on your resume. A great race for us, an important race for us, another close to home race for Kroger. A lot of Kroger guests, a lot of people out there that we want to go out there and run well for. But, most importantly want to kiss those bricks, that is what we are going to try to do.”
