Reigning King of the Mountain Allen Johnson Ready to Defend Title and Legacy at Mopar Mile High Nationals

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (July 19, 2017) – When people talk about special moments in NHRA Drag Racing’s history, Allen Johnson’s domination at Bandimere Speedway will be one of them. Last year, Johnson took the Marathon Petroleum/J&J Racing Dodge Dart to the final round for the eleventh time in his career and the tenth year in a row.

“We’ve had a lot of success and put in a lot of hard work up on the mountain to get the title of King of the Mountain,” Johnson laughed. “We worked out tails off every year testing before the race and our team developed a great setup for that race over the years. EFI took the way our advantage last year but some way or another, we still got it done last year. The term ‘King of the Mountain’ is one of the top two or three things that has happened to me in my career.”

With a reputation for success on the mountain, it would make sense for a driver to put extra pressure on themselves coming into this event but the 2012 Pro Stock World Champion couldn’t be calmer heading into Denver.

“You know, I used to put a lot of pressure on myself but now I think we have been success at this track and I don’t feel the need to put so much pressure on myself with all that we’ve accomplished in Denver.”

Qualifying for the 38th annual Mopar Mile High Nationals begins on Friday, July 21st with two sessions at 5:00 and 7:30 p.m. Qualifying continues Saturday, July 22nd with two more sessions at 4:00 and 6:30 p.m. Elimimations will be held on Sunday, July 23rd at 11:00 a.m.
