Giovanni Scelzi Charges to Third Win in the Last Month With KWS-NARC at Antioch

Inside Line Promotions – ANTIOCH, Calif. (June 5, 2017) – Giovanni Scelzi earned his third feature victory in the last six races when he captured the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Sprint Car Series event at Antioch Speedway last Saturday.

“It sounds cliché, but I can’t say enough about the people around me,” he said. “We have the best equipment, best engines and best people working on the car. The car is on every time we hit the track. I’m still learning so it makes it easier when my car is that good.”

Scelzi guided the Roth Motorsports entry to the third quickest qualifying time to open the night. He then finished where he started – third – in a heat race to lock into the dash.

“Me and Kyle (Hirst) started on the front row,” he said. “I got the jump and he slid me going into turn one. I stayed on it and we met in the middle.”

The contact spun Scelzi, who ended the dash sixth. That lined him up on the outside of the third row for the main event.

“On the warm-up lap I knew we were good,” he said. “The track slicked off a bunch and I knew I had to go where they weren’t. Everyone got bottled up on the bottom in turns one and two on the start.”

Scelzi powered from sixth to second place on the opening lap before he took over the lead a handful of laps later with a slide job in turns one and two.

“We pretty much checked out after that,” he said. “It was pretty cool. I’ve been to Antioch a couple of times and I was worried it doesn’t suit my style because it’s small, tight and you have to back it into the corner. Finishing races and staying up front, just being more consistent, is key.”
