Line, last year’s runner-up, wants first St. Louis win

MOORESVILLE, N.C., September 23, 2015 – Jason Line has won at almost every racetrack on the 2015 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series tour, but Gateway Motorsports Park is one of the few venues still snubbing its nose at the driver of the blue Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro. This weekend, at the 4th annual AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals, Line is of the mindset to change the status quo.

At this race last season, Line was working to protect the NHRA Pro Stock points lead and effectively accomplished the task by racing to the final round at the racetrack that sits quite near to the landmark St. Louis arch. In the end, Line’s 6.565-second pass came up just short to his opponent’s 6.562. The final was his second at Gateway Motorsports Park after a runner-up in 2009 as well.

“Last year we came close,” said Line, who holds the track record for elapsed time and speed set in 2012 at 6.496, 213.47. “We’ve run well in St. Louis the last few years, and last year we almost got it done. We came very, very close. But like I’ve said in the past, every bad streak must come to an end at some point in time. I think this weekend would be a great time to see that happen.”

Currently No. 7 in the Pro Stock points, Line has not seen it all come together on raceday in a consistent fashion this year. He started the season with a win at the Winternationals and the points lead in hand, and he won again in Atlanta in an incredible all-Summit final round at the Summit Racing Equipment-sponsored event. Two more events this year have ended for Line in the final round, including the Lucas Oil Nationals at his home racetrack, Brainerd International Raceway.

However, five first-round losses, including last weekend in Charlotte, have the two-time Pro Stock world champion and 37-time Pro Stock national event winner good and ready to make a big move in the right direction.

“We’ve had some challenges lately with my car and the driver, unfortunately, but my teammate Greg Anderson’s Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro has been good. That’s great for our KB Racing team, and we’ve all worked very hard so we expect that to continue,” said Line. “We haven’t yet achieved what we’ve been shooting for with my car, but that could – and should – change this weekend.”
