Anderson Plans Stellar Weekend at Summit Racing’s Southern Nationals

MOORESVILLE, N.C., May 13, 2015 – The 2015 season of NHRA’s Mello Yello Drag Racing Series is in full swing, and Greg Anderson and the Summit Racing NHRA Pro Stock team are bound and determined to continue their battle for top honors at this weekend’s event at Atlanta Dragway. The 35th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals will provide Anderson and his KB Racing crew the opportunity to display the strides that they made during the previous two weeks during a break in the strenuous schedule.

“We’ve been testing hard with these couple of weeks off from racing,” said Anderson. “It’s been great for us because it gives us the opportunity to really dig into some R&D. We love when that happens, and we’ve been on the racetrack and on the dyno, full steam, trying to make some gains. We’re cautiously optimistic, but I think we’ve had a couple of good weeks to get ready for this very important race in Atlanta. It’s a Summit Racing Equipment-sponsored race, and that means there is a lot on the line for us – but we love that. We always like to ante up and raise our game for these Summit races, and hopefully we’ll show them that we used these last two weeks to be very productive.”

The Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals is one of three races on the 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series tour sponsored by the mail order, Internet, and retail high performance automotive parts and accessories powerhouse.

“This is an important race for us because it’s got Summit Racing all over it,” said Anderson. “We’ll get to visit with quite a few of the Summit Racing employees that we got to meet at the McDonough store just a few weeks ago when we were there for the Atlanta Motorama, and it will be great to have them there with us. We want to show off in front of them, and we feel like this is a great opportunity to do that. This has definitely been an up year for me, no question, and I think it’s going to continue to get better. I’m very excited about this weekend, but also about the whole season and the direction this Summit Racing team is headed.”

If history has a say, this weekend should be top notch for Team Summit. Anderson has quite a record at Atlanta Dragway with four wins in nine final rounds and six low qualifier awards. It has also been the site of three all-Summit Racing final rounds (2005, 2011, 2012), two of which have fell in Anderson’s favor. KB Racing teammate Jason Line, driver of the Blue Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro, holds the Atlanta Dragway track record for speed, and Anderson only recently relinquished the track record for elapsed time.

“Atlanta Dragway has absolutely been very good to me,” said Anderson, pilot of the red Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro. “I have a lot of experience at that racetrack. I’ve spent a lot of time testing and racing there, starting back when I was working with Warren Johnson. He had a lot of success there, and when I moved on to my own, I had a lot of success there as well. We consider Charlotte a home track for us because that’s close to where the KB Racing shop is based, and of course Las Vegas is a home track because that’s where our team owners, Ken and Judy Black, live. But Atlanta is almost like a third home for us. We look forward to going there every year, and we’re super glad that Summit Racing has its name on the billboard.”

The success that Anderson has known in Atlanta puts him only behind one other Pro Stock driver – Johnson. Veteran Pro Stock competitor WJ, Anderson’s former boss, has five wins in the Peach State. A victory this year would move Anderson into a tie as the winningest Pro Stock driver in Atlanta.

Anderson acknowledges the potential milestone but isn’t zeroed in on that particular achievement alone.

“It’s a neat deal, but I don’t fixate on the individual milestones and records. I dwell on trying to win every race I go to,” said Anderson.

On Thursday before the Summit Racing NHRA Southern Nationals, Anderson and Line will have the honor of attending the once-a-year celebration honoring past NHRA championships. Anderson, a four-time Pro Stock champion, and Line, who has two coveted Pro Stock titles, are both on the guest list for the annual NHRA Mello Yello Partnership Dinner at Atlanta’s World of Coca-Cola.

“It’s always a very special night for us,” said Anderson. “Those folks at Coca-Cola really put on a great event, and they treat you like you’re part of their family. I’m proud to be a member of that exclusive club, and that night is always a great way to kick off a very important weekend for us.”
