Summit Racing–Anderson Comes Full Circle at Houston’s NHRA SpringNationals

Anderson Comes Full Circle at Houston’s NHRA SpringNationals

MOORESVILLE, N.C., April 22, 2015 – This weekend’s 28th annual NHRA SpringNationals at Houston’s Royal Purple Raceway will mark the one-year anniversary of the return of Greg Anderson. After missing the first five races of the 2014 season of NHRA’s Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, Anderson sidled back into the well-worn seat of his familiar Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro and buckled up for work. Since then, the four-time NHRA Pro Stock champion has proven effectively that he is in the best shape of his career as a driver. A victory at the Texas racetrack would mark his second of the season and certainly drive that point home.

“I had a lot of apprehension getting back into the car before this race last year,” admitted Anderson. “There were a lot of thoughts running through my head, wondering if I could still compete at a top level and win races and championships. But after that first run down the racetrack, I knew right then and there that the future would be great. This race answered a lot of questions for me last year, and it really launched me into my second career.”

In the races following his return in 2014, Anderson positioned himself on the top of the leader board in terms of reaction times and made his way to three final rounds. He consistently left his opponents on the starting line and won critical rounds, quickly regaining confidence and eying the trophy that was only just out of reach until the third race on the schedule in 2015. In Gainesville, Anderson powered a new red Summit Racing Chevrolet Camaro and defeated his teammate Jason Line in a remarkable 23rd all-Summit Racing Pro Stock final.

Team Summit has been a powerful force this season, and Line is currently in the points lead while Anderson is just 47 marks back in third. After the Gainesville Gatornationals win, Anderson was runner-up in Charlotte and a semifinalist at the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas.

Off the racetrack, the KB Racing duo have been making the most of their time as well. Last weekend they traveled to the Summit Racing Equipment Atlanta Motorama at Atlanta Motor Speedway, where they rode in BIGFOOT® Monster Trucks and took respective rides in revved up Autocross entries competing for top honors. The event also features a spectacular car show and many family activities.

“We were like little kids having the time of our lives,” said Anderson. “We had a great time and met a lot of neat people. We’re fortunate that Summit Racing brings us to these cool events that they’re involved in, and we haven’t been to a Summit event yet that wasn’t just a ton of fun. We’re very fortunate to be associated with Summit Racing and to have these opportunities. It was a blast, and now this weekend we get to go out there to Houston and race our Chevy Camaros, so the fun continues.

“Houston is a great racetrack, and we go there with a lot of confidence because Jason and I had what were probably the two best racecars on the grounds two weeks ago in Las Vegas. We let one slip away there, and we need to make up for that. But we go into this weekend with our heads held high because we know we can win.”
