Giovanni Scelzi Fights Mechanical Issues and Track Conditions at Lemoore

Inside Line Promotions – LEMOORE, Calif. (Aug. 10, 2014) – To say Giovanni Scelzi had his most frustrating outing of the season last weekend would be an understatement.

Scelzi battled mechanical issues and poor track conditions on Saturday at Lemoore Raceway.

“The track was terrible,” he said. “It took rubber in the heat races. They reworked it and it took rubber by the first main event.”

The night began with Scelzi showcasing speed during the winged micro sprint hot laps. Unfortunately, a problem occurred between then and qualifying, which kept Scelzi from timing in.

“We were the fastest car in hot laps and then we had problems in qualifying,” he said. “We think the clutch was slipping in it. We didn’t want to hurt the motor anymore so we decided to park it.”

AJ ALLMENDINGER, NO. 47 SCOTTS PRODUCTS CHEVROLET SS
HOW IS THE RACE CAR?
“It’s a tricky race track right now. There are moments I think I need one thing and then about 10 laps later I think I need another. Scott Products Chevy is fast we pitted early there and I think that threw me off a little bit because we had to fight through all the slower cars and I used my tires up and then when Marcos (Ambrose) and Jeff (Gordon) and those guys came out they had 10 lap fresher tires. I had already used my stuff up so I think we were pretty late in the run which it’s Watkins Glen so strategy is always going to come into play. More importantly glad everybody is okay in that wreck. That was nasty to see. We will get that fence fixed and go have some fun here for about 30 laps.”

“I blew a tire. I have no idea. I think it was only two laps, the second lap on tires. So apparently the No. 20 was radioing in saying there was some smoke. I never saw any, but he said he saw it and said ‘you guys should pit.’ Just in the carousel there is so much load on the left-front there that I guess that was the go spot for it.
