Giovanni Scelzi Fights Mechanical Issues and Track Conditions at Lemoore

Inside Line Promotions – LEMOORE, Calif. (Aug. 10, 2014) – To say Giovanni Scelzi had his most frustrating outing of the season last weekend would be an understatement.

Scelzi battled mechanical issues and poor track conditions on Saturday at Lemoore Raceway.

“The track was terrible,” he said. “It took rubber in the heat races. They reworked it and it took rubber by the first main event.”

The night began with Scelzi showcasing speed during the winged micro sprint hot laps. Unfortunately, a problem occurred between then and qualifying, which kept Scelzi from timing in.

“We were the fastest car in hot laps and then we had problems in qualifying,” he said. “We think the clutch was slipping in it. We didn’t want to hurt the motor anymore so we decided to park it.”

Scelzi missed a heat race and the team decided to throw wings on the nonwing car for the winged main event. However, after rallying from last to just outside the top 10 on the rubber-down track, Scelzi decided to pull in prior to the midpoint of the 30-lap feature.

“It was rubber down and we weren’t going anywhere,” he said. “I didn’t want to crash or have something stupid happen to us.”

Scelzi kicked off the nonwing action on Friday by setting quick time in qualifying. He then powered from fourth to second place in his heat race. Unfortunately, the No. 8 was pulled for the feature inversion, which lined Scelzi up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event on a track that was caked with rubber.

“If we were starting on the pole we would have probably run it,” he said. “But we were going to burn our stuff up and risk getting in a wreck so we decided not to race the main event.”
