More points for Line with Carolina Nats finish, fired up for FallNationals raceday

Dallas, Texas, September 20, 2014 – Jason Line and Texas Motorplex continued a warm friendship today as Line advanced to the final round at the delayed NHRA Carolina Nationals to give his points lead a bit of a cushion heading into the second race of NHRA’s six-event Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship playoffs. Line, of Mooresville, N.C., didn’t score the Carolina Nationals title, but he is plenty fired up for a second day of eliminations at the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals on Sunday.

Line qualified in the No. 6 spot for the event that was originally slated to take place in Charlotte. Before the event was put on hold due to conditions in the area, Line made the quickest Charlotte pass of the weekend with a remarkable 6.533, 210.93 to knock out Chris McGaha’s 6.856. John Force Racing–COURTNEY FORCE STAYS No. 1 AT AAA TEXAS FALLNATIONALS

COURTNEY FORCE STAYS No. 1 AT AAA TEXAS FALLNATIONALS
John Force Runner-up At Postponed Carolina Nationals
ENNIS, TX – Courtney Force held onto her No. 1 qualifying spot at the 29th annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals while her father John Force raced to the runner-up finish at the Pep Boys NHRA Carolina Nationals at the conclusion of the day. Force outran Hagan 4.140 seconds to 4.212 but he jumped the start by .053 seconds and was disqualified. The incredibly hot track temperatures which reached as high as 137 degrees kept most of the Friday qualifiers in their same positions throughout the last day of qualifying.
The 16-time NHRA Mello Yello champion was pumped up and ready to win what would have been his 142nd career victory today, as the final eliminations of last weekend’s postponed Pep Boys NHRA Carolina Nationals. Force, the winningest driver in NHRA history, would have to get past three drivers, one a former NHRA champ to achieve another milestone victory in the ever important 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship. There was also the potential to “Double Up” if he was victorious today and on Sunday during the final eliminations of the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals and to add more excitement, John Force was also going for win number 79 behind the wheel of his Ford Mustang, as this would make him the winningest driver in Ford history.
Unfortunately for John Force, his 7th straight final round appearance would net him a runner-up finish to rival Matt Hagan, as John had an uncharacteristic red light and was instantly disqualified. John has raced Hagan in the finals seven times, and prior to today’s pairing, these two highly competitive drivers were 3-3 in their previous matchups. It was also the second time this season John has red lighted during eliminations.
“This was driver error! My race car out ran him; it whipped him unless he (Matt Hagan) lifted early, but they said he was right down there with me. I got jacked-up, I heard them yelling ‘They’re running Pro Stock’, I knew I was late, I changed my routine, I know better than to change my routine! I’m so furious at myself, you don’t change your routine, and yet I changed it and I screwed up all the work we did. We’re going to try to win this race, we’re going to try to win this championship, and you don’t to it by making those kinds of mistakes. I’m embarrassed,” said John Force.
“But John is a great racer and I’m glad we have a little rivalry. We need that out here in our sport. We can’t be all kissy-kissy,” said Hagan, following the win. “It’s nice to have a winning record again against John. He’s the man to beat and he’s proven it all year long. They’ve been very dominant but with this Countdown it gives us another shot to come out here and take over.”
Today’s eliminations picked up in the quarterfinals, as John’s opponent, Dave Richards, chose not to come to the Dallas race to face John in round two. Having the bye-run, crew chief Jimmy Prock was able to try a different set-up on John’s Castrol EDGE Mustang to see if he could improve the performance of the car’s 8000 horsepower BOSS 500 engine. Unfortunately, the concrete surface of the Texas Motorplex couldn’t take the power of John’s Funny Car, and the massive Goodyear slicks began to lose traction at the 300-foot mark. The time was only 4.757 seconds at 183.69 mph.
“The fans get two championship races today, here you get Charlotte, Bruton Smith’s race and then you get Billy Meyer’s race, the FallNationals here in Dallas so I’m loving it. I got real lucky in the last round. I want to thank Dave Richards, he couldn’t make it and a lot of times, it’s financial and I gave it away. My old hot rod wouldn’t go down the track, but there’s nothing wrong with the track, we just have to make the right adjustments. Now, it’s going to be a crap shoot and it’s going to be exciting stuff to watch and you know what’s cool, anyone can win this race,” said John Force.
Since John Force was already qualified for the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals, crew chief Jimmy Prock was trying to find the right balance of power so John could get past his next opponent in the eliminations. Going into the semi-finals, John Force would fellow Ford driver Bob Tasca III and with Tasca having lane choice, Jimmy Prock was making sure the clutch set-up would be dialed-in to get John down the track in short order.
s the Christmas tree flashed green, both Mustangs blasted off the starting line and it was John leading the whole way down the track as he turned in a 4.271 second run at 293.79 mph to Tasca’s 4.337 at 262.69. This would set up an epic final round match-up with Hagan.
Qualified 5th for the tomorrow’s final round eliminations for the AAA Texas NHRA Nationals, John Force will once again hit the Texas Motorplex looking for win number 142. Regardless, his points lead in the Countdown continues to grow, as he’s going for his 17th NHRA Mello Yello championship.
Courtney Force qualified in the No. 1 spot for the fourth time this season and the second time at the Texas Motorplex when her track record 4.039 ET held through two additional qualifying sessions today. The 26-year-old also posted a track record speed at 314.90 mph in her Traxxas Ford Mustang Funny Car.
“No matter what, it’s going to be tough tomorrow on race day. It’s hard for anyone to run out here in the heat, as you could see on that last run. We had a pretty consistent car out here this weekend. I think we pushed it a little too hard on that last run to see what it would do in the heat, but I think we’ll learn something from it for tomorrow on race day,” said Force.
The youngest Force daughter has posted top speed in eight of 17 races this season alone and could add to that number tomorrow. She will match-up against Tony Pedregon in round one. This is only the fifth time the pair have raced each other, but the third time this season. She is currently 3-1 against him. They have raced each other twice in the first round and twice in the second.
“It feels good to go out there and have this Traxxas Ford Mustang back and going back to the No. 1 spot, especially here in Texas. I’m really proud of my team for giving me a good race car this weekend and definitely hope to continue it tomorrow throughout race day. You know, we didn’t have such good luck last weekend in Charlotte so we’re really hoping to turn things around. We could definitely use the points to climb our way back up there for the Championship. I definitely think we still have a chance at it. It feels good to make some consistent passes and be able to get down there in the heat like we did earlier today, definitely gives you a little bit of confidence for tomorrow. We had one bad run, but I think we can learn from it,” said Force.
The 2012 Auto Club Road to the Future Award winner for NHRA’s top Rookie of the Year won the 100th NHRA pro race by a woman at Topeka earlier this season. She has a total of five career wins, the most by any woman in Funny Car history.
“I think we’ve got a good car and a good shot at it this weekend. I think if we can keep our Traxxas Ford running consistent and just outrun these guys and girls in the heat, we have a pretty good chance at taking home a win here in Texas,” said Force.
This is the hometown race of Force’s primary sponsor Traxxas, The Fastest Name in Radio Control. Traxxas came on board with Force at the start of her rookie season in 2012.
“There’s a lot of pressure I put on myself. Coming out here, the base for my main sponsor Traxxas, you definitely want to impress them. You see a lot of new faces coming out here that work at headquarters and are coming out to support our team. We definitely want to do a good job and make them proud and also make them realize that they made the right decision going with me. So, there’s a lot of pressure I put on myself to make Traxxas happy, especially Mike Jenkins (Traxxas Owner and CEO),” said Force
Force admitted her struggles with this track and why she wants to win this race so bad, remembering John Force’s crash in 2007at The Motorplex, just months after teammate Eric Medlen passed away during a testing accident.
“This is the one track that always sticks out in my mind. It’s the home of Traxxas, but also where my dad had his incident. So no matter what, that always kind of sticks out every time I’m running in the left lane, but I’d really like to get a win here and have a happier memory,” said Force.
Force suffered an unfortunate first-round match-up against her father and 16-time champion John Force in Charlotte last weekend; the first race of the 2014 Countdown to the Championship. John Force has now been to seven straight finals.
“The one thing I’m thinking is, ‘get me on the other side of the ladder from him.’ I don’t want to run him. Obviously it cost me last weekend and for me mentally, my teammates are my biggest competition right now. I would be okay if they got it, but I really want it and I don’t want to be running into them along the way. I want to take out these other guys and be facing my teammates in the final. That would be ideal, but like I said, last weekend we went up against him and that’s just not what we want. On a positive note, I think we’ve got a good car and that’s the only thing we need to focus on; our team and going after that win. We’ll worry about him when we get to him,” said Force.
Robert Hight and the AAA Texas Ford Mustang team will go into race day tomorrow as the No. 9 qualifier and will face Jack Beckman. Hight raced to the semi-finals of the postponed Carolina Nationals but tires smoke in the first session today in a win over Jeff Arend. In the final round of qualifying which was also the semi-finals Hight dropped a close race to eventual race winner Matt Hagan.
“It was hot today but we got down the track in the final qualifying session. We made it to the semi-finals of the Carolina Nationals and stayed in the No. 2 spot. We get to race tomorrow and we will try and go more rounds then. I am confident with how this AAA Texas Funny Car is running. You look at these JFR Funny Cars and we are all making some good runs in the heat. I hate that we are all on the same side of the ladder,” said Hight, a five-time winner this season.
Racing wrapped up today at the 29th annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals at the Texas Motorplex, and Brittany Force just short of making the cut, and thus failed to qualify. The 2013 Auto Club Rookie of Year tried to get her Castrol EDGE Dragster in the field, but unfortunately tricky weather and track conditions threw Brittany and her crew a curve ball.
With three final round appearances this season and strong showings throughout the year, this was Brittany’s first DNQ in a Countdown race. Prior to today, the last time Brittany didn’t qualify for a race was at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio back in July of 2013.
“We are bummed. This was not the plan. Every run counts and we need to go rounds. We are going to hold our heads up. We are No. 10 in the points right now and we can’t go any lower. We will get ready for the next race and keep trying hard,” said Brittany Force.
In Saturday’s first qualifying session, the air temperature was hovering around the low 90s and the crew chiefs were struggling with track temp that was above 130 degrees. This affects the set-up greatly, and they knew it would be same conditions on Sunday’s final eliminations. At the flash of the green from the Christmas tree, Brittany hit the throttle of her Castrol EDGE Dragster.
Unfortunately she hazed the massive Goodyear slicks and began to lose traction. She tried to pedal her dragster to get it to settle down and regain traction, but her racecar just smoked the tires to the 1000-foot mark. The end result was a 4.661 second pass at 222.11 mph. Brittany would still be on the outside looking in going into the fourth and final qualifying session as she was still in the 17th spot.
On the fourth and final qualifying session, track temps hovered between 137 and 139 degrees and the crew was trying get the Brittany’s car to cooperate and make a clean run. Brittany’s Castrol EDGE Dragster was on a good pass until once again, the massive Goodyear slicks began fighting for traction at the 300-foot mark. The sophomore Top Fuel driver did everything she could to settle the car down and back pedal it to drive through the tire spin and wheel shake conditions, but never got the dragster to hook up, as it smoked the tires all the way down the track as it turned in a 4.110 second pass at 242.63 mph.
Brittany Force and the Castrol EDGE team will look at the run data from this weekend, make adjustments, and then head to the 3rd annual AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Illinois.

Extreme Speed Motorsports–Fourth Place Finish for ESM Patrón during TUDOR Championship in Austin

Fourth Place Finish for ESM Patrón
during TUDOR Championship in Austin
Austin, Texas – Sept 20, 2014 – Extreme Speed Motorsports (ESM) finished fourth in the Lone Star Le Mans on Saturday afternoon at Circuit of the Americas (COTA). In what would be their final TUDOR United SportsCar Championship race of the season, Ed Brown and Johannes van Overbeek, co-drivers of the No. 2 Tequila Patrón Honda Performance Development ARX-03b (HPD) were one spot shy of a podium finish today.

Brown started the race from the fifth position. It took two attempts for a green flag start. At the scheduled race start, the leaders jumped the starter cue and series officials restarted the race. As the field settled into a steady pace, Brown maintained a fifth-place run.

Brown battled the competition and fought hard for his track position during his 33-minute stint. He pitted under green based on the team’s race strategy for a driver change, fuel and tires. When co-driver van Overbeek climbed into the Honda prototype for his stint, he was ranked seventh in the Prototype class.

In typical van Overbeek fashion, he set his focus to the front of the field and began to gain positions. In 71 minutes, approximately 12 laps, van Overbeek reached a race-high of third in class. He maintained a top-five run for the majority of his stint, more than an hour of the race.

In the closing 45 minutes, van Overbeek was hit by at GT-Daytona (GTD) competitor car which caused aerodynamic and body work damage to the back of the No. 2 Tequila Patrón Honda preventing it from running at optimal performance.

Brown and the entire ESM team now changes its focus to the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) and the 6 Hours of Circuit of the Americas. Brown will co-drive the No. 30 Tequila Patrón HPD with Scott Sharp and Ryan Dalziel for the six-hour endurance event.

On Saturday morning, Extreme Speed Motorsports announced its entry into the FIA WEC 6 Hours of Shanghai. The Florida-based team entered both its Tequila Patrón-sponsored HPD prototypes in the LMP2 class for the Nov. 2 race at China’s Shanghai International Circuit. In order to prepare both Tequila Patrón-sponsored HPDs to meet FIA WEC regulations, ESM will not compete in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship’s season finale – Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta in October.

ROSSBURG, Ohio – Sept. 19, 2014 – Donny Schatz had World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series win number 23 in his sights at Eldora Speedway on Friday night but Joey Saldana had other ideas as Saldana held off the five-time champion on the way to victory at the Four Crown Nationals.

“This is amazing because I actually beat Donny Schatz,” Saldana said in victory lane following his win. “He’s been unbelievable this year and just to be able to race with him and be able to drive with the World of Outlaws – honestly, it’s an honor to just be out here and race.” Continue reading World of Outlaws–Saldana Scores Four Crown Win at Eldora Speedway

John Force Racing–FallNationals

COURTNEY FORCE No. 1 ON FRIDAY OF AAA TEXAS FALLNATIONALS
ENNIS, TX – Courtney Force made a good pass to kick off qualifying at the Texas Motorplex today when she drove her Traxxas Ford Mustang down the track to put a 4.131 ET at 310.70 mph on the board. She rocketed to the second-fastest speed of the first session at 310.70 mph behind only her father, John Force at 314.24 mph.
In the second qualifying session, team Traxxas made a 4.039 second run at 314 mph, a Texas Motorplex track record in Funny Car for both ET and speed. This season alone, the 26-year-old has posted top speed in eight of 17 races and has the fastest speed in Funny Car history at 1,000 feet of 325.37 mph (Las Vegas).
“I knew going into this race I was feeling confident; we had a good car. But to go up there and go to the No. 1 spot for our Traxxas team and run a number like that, a 4.039 and it’s even cool that Alexis (DeJoria) is right behind me in the No. 2 spot, so it’s just a good weekend so far. We still have tomorrow. I’m excited and proud of my team,” said Force.
The Motorplex is the site of Force’s second ever career No. 1 qualifying effort. Earlier this season, she won the 100th NHRA pro race by a woman at Topeka. She has a total of five career wins, the most by any woman in Funny Car history.
“We’ll be focusing on keeping this car consistent and picking up bonus points round after round, that’s going to be our main goal tomorrow, but also to qualify in the top half so I don’t have to face my teammates in round one like I had to do last weekend. Our focus is the Countdown, this is race two and we definitely need to turn things around this weekend,” said Force.
Last weekend in Charlotte for the Pep Boys Carolina Nationals, Force qualified in the top half of the field, but unfortunately got paired up with her father in the first round of eliminations. She was ousted by the 16-time champion after making her best pass of the weekend beside him.
“I think this Traxxas team got things pulled together since last weekend. Although we went out in the first round, I took it as a positive after seeing what we ran. It was our quickest pass of the weekend in Charlotte,” said Force.
“We need consistency; to not make little mistakes, keep this car dead shallow, that’s my job going up there round after round. Luckily not having to worry about it tomorrow I can continue to go in shallow next to these guys because I won’t be competing in elimination rounds from Charlotte. Our Traxxas team is looking to pick up points throughout qualifying and stay consistent so we can continue to be consistent on Sunday,” said Force.
“It definitely drives a little bit different than what I’m used to, but little changes can feel like a whole lot,” said the 26-year-old whose team introduced a new Traxxas Ford Mustang Funny Car to the competition beginning in Indy. “For the most part I like it. Ever since it went down and made some good runs, you really can’t dislike a car. It’s been good to me so far. It’s been a lot more consistent than what we’ve had in the past. It definitely gives our team a whole new outlook and a big boost of confidence.”
John Force’s 8,000 horsepower Castrol GTX High Mileage Mustang thundered down the iconic Texas Motorplex. This weekend’s race is also a “Double Header” and the 16-time NHRA Mellow Yello Champion has the potential to “Double Up” this weekend and win two Wallys, as he races to a potential 17th NHRA world title. With last weekend’s NHRA Carolina Nationals finals scheduled to be run this Saturday, and the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals eliminations on Sunday, John Force is ready to be victorious and make history.
By the end of today’s qualifying sessions, John Force ended up in the top half of the field, sitting in the number five spot with a strong 4.081 second run at 314.24, the second quickest run of the first round of qualifying.
It was on Force’s first qualifying run that he turned in his best performance of the day, as he was lined up with teammate and son-in-law Robert Hight. Both of their nitro-fueled Mustangs charged off the starting line, with John motoring right on down the track, crossing the finish line first with a solid 4.081 second run at 314.24 mph. This stout opening pass put the reigning NHRA Funny Car champ in the No. 2 spot. He also picked up two additional NHRA Mello Yello bonus points.
During the second session, the weather conditions began to cool down and the track conditions improved. Crew Chief Jimmy Prock, who likes to swing for fences and really hop up the already potent Castrol GTX High Mileage Mustang, wanted to make sure he didn’t get too aggressive and overpower the concrete surface of the Texas Motorplex.
“We saw Courtney (Force) run a 4.03 right before us on that second session and so we don’t want to run the same, we want to run quicker, but we didn’t get away with it. We know where we’re at for tomorrow, as we are running the eliminations from the Charlotte race and it’s the beginning of the Countdown. I have to get my frame of mind right back there; it’s the way I set up my goals. My goal is to win Charlotte and now I get to do that tomorrow. I’m excited but I wished we could have ran it off at Bruton Smith’s track, he built the “Bellagio” of drag strips, but there was a little hiccup but they’re the best in the country in racing and what they invest in and we’re all proud of them. We wish we were there with them but we’re going to give the Charlotte show right here in Texas,” said John Force.
Force’s Funny Car was on a strong run as his Mustang catapulted off the starting line, but just past the 300-foot mark, it began to lose traction and then suffered mechanical issues. The 8000-horsepower BOSS 500 engine went silent and the time was a less than stellar 6.729 second run at 97.77 mph.
“We weren’t going after a track record, we were just trying to run what we thought it would run and for some reason, it smoked the tires on that spot on the track which it’s never done before. The clutch also didn’t wear like we wanted it to and it messed the run up,” said Jimmy Prock.
With two more qualifying runs tomorrow, along with eliminations for the rescheduled NHRA Carolina Nationals, the Castrol GTX High Mileage team will be ready and so will the winningest driver in NHRA history.
“Everything that ever went wrong for us was in Dallas in 2007 and all my bad luck went with it. So yeah, I got good luck when I came here (Texas Motorplex) with Traxxas, winning it in 2012 and again this year at Indy. So tomorrow, I’m going to try and win Charlotte in Dallas, Texas,” said John Force.
The AAA Texas Funny Car driven by Robert Hight was focused today on getting down both lanes and setting up a race day combination for tomorrow’s qualifying and simultaneous elimination rounds. Due to the postponement of the Pep Boys NHRA Carolina Nationals Hight will race Jeff Arend during the third qualifying session.
“There is a race to win tomorrow. We got down the track both runs today so we will look at the lanes for tomorrow and we have lane choice. I am excited about hopefully getting the first win of the Countdown but Jeff Arend will be a tough opponent,” said Hight, the provisional No. 9 qualifier on Friday.
In the first round of qualifying Hight was the fifth quickest Funny Car posting an elapsed time of 4.101 seconds. In the second session Hight’s AAA Texas logoed Ford Mustang Funny Car stepped up in elapsed time, 4.088 seconds, but slipped back a few slot in the qualifying order.
After two qualifying sessions, Brittany Force drove her Castrol EDGE Top Fuel Dragster to the 17th quickest time today. The 2013 NHRA Auto Club Rookie of the Year is looking to rebound this weekend after a tough first round loss last weekend, and is primed to go rounds this Sunday.
“It was definitely difficult going out in round one in Charlotte, as it was the first race of the Countdown. But at this point, the Castrol EDGE team has no place to go but up, and that’s exactly our attitude this weekend. I really believe that having a positive attitude is extremely important and I’m confident we’ll fight our way back up the ladder,” said Brittany Force.
In the opening session, Brittany’s dragster experienced a mechanical problem at the hit of the throttle and put a cylinder out. Wisely, Brittany immediately shut down the engine, as raw fuel was coming out of the exhaust pipes. The run was a disappointing 9.083 second run as her race car coasted across the finish line at 48.77 mph. It had Brittany in the No. 19 spot, but the always optimistic Brittany knew her crew, led by Todd Smith and Dean “Guido” Antonelli, would be able to tune-up the Castrol EDGE Dragster for the second qualifying session.
When it came time for the second session, Brittany’s crew was still trying to get a handle on the changing weather and track conditions. As the Christmas tree flashed green, Brittany’s Castrol EDGE Dragster fired off the starting line but got into trouble around the 660-foot mark and could only manage a 4.319 second run at 186.95 mph.
“It’s been a tough day, it’s been a tough few races but I told my guys that we will keep a positive attitude and when that happens, we work better as a team and the car just runs better. On that last session, my Castrol EDGE Dragster was a handful when I hit the throttle. It was probably one of the wildest rides I’ve had in my career yet, it was insane. I know my guys made some changes to the steering from last week and they tightened it up a little bit, so I probably over-steered on that run. I have to put more pressure on the steering wheel to get the car to do what I want but once it starts going, look out, it’s all over the place,” Brittany Force.

ON HIS QUALIFYING SESSION:
“I thought we had a really good car in race trim. We ran a few laps in race trim to start today. Very similar to the same car we had here the first race. We switched over to qualifying trim we were second quick so yeah our car has been good so far. The track will change a little bit tomorrow when the rubber gets laid down, but overall it’s been a really good weekend so far. We have WEMO on our car, a really loud paint scheme so really excited about everything so far.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–New Hampshire–Qualifying Notes

RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 31 QUICKEN LOANS CHEVROLET SS, met with members of the media and discussed racing this weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, competing in the Modified race this weekend, the challenges of this weekend’s short race length and many other topics. Full Transcript:

TALK ABOUT HOW THE FIRST PRACTICE HAS GONE FOR YOU AND YOUR OUTLOOK HERE THIS WEEKEND AT NEW HAMPSHIRE:
“I always look forward to coming to New Hampshire. It’s a fun place for me career wise, resume wise, as well as, getting to run the Modified and having some fun with that up here. I had a pretty good practice session in P1 there with the exception of not getting some clean qualifying laps. We had some traffic and didn’t get to bust off the lap that I think that we are capable of. We have a little bit of work to do to decipher exactly what we need and how fast to go. I feel like we have a good Quicken Loans Chevrolet and always look forward to qualifying here. I’ve done pretty well on Friday’s here and been fairly fortunate on Sunday’s as well.”

EVERYBODY KNOWS YOU HAVE A GREAT QUALIFYING RECORD HERE HOW MUCH DIFFERENT IS IT FOR YOU QUALIFYING HERE IN THE NEW FORMAT?
“I mean you really get multiple opportunities at it and the car is tuned just a little bit differently because of the multiple runs. You have just as much of an opportunity to make a mistake as you do to learn from your mistakes if you are fortunate enough to be able to run multiple laps or multiple outings. That is the biggest difference to me. It’s a little less hero or zero now than it used to be.”

HOW DO YOU FEEL WITH THE MODIFIED SITUATION HERE? ARE YOU GOING TO BE FAST ENOUGH? YOU WERE NOT NEAR THE TOP IN PRACTICE AT ALL:
“We didn’t run the first practice just because it was so cold and we have got a pretty good notebook from here. Second practice we actually struggled a little bit more than I thought we were going to. The car was really tight, but then did a pretty good run there at the end. I think we will have a good competitive car. I just look forward to the race. It’s so much fun here drafting and passing and the short race. The Cup race here is one of the shortest that we have all year, but the Modified race being a third of that just makes it even more exciting in my eyes.”

HOW MUCH MORE DIFFICULT IS IT TO IMPROVE YOUR CAR BECAUSE THE RACE IS SO SHORT AND IT’S OVER SO QUICKLY?
“Well it’s not so much a matter of that as it is having your car right for all four runs basically because the tires are usually really durable here, track position is key. Every once in a while you get guys that are off cycle. Maybe 15 or 20 laps that will make a difference in track position for maybe you or you could be that guy that gets the advantage, but in general you just have to have a good car and have good restarts and not lose four or five spots. Or not have a bad pit stop because all those things are magnified with the short distance and the fewer opportunities to gain what you might have lost.”

HOW HAS THE DOVER TRACK CHANGED IN THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS AND WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THAT GOING IN TO TRY TO GET THE MOST POINTS OR EVEN A WIN?
“For me if anything it’s gotten a little bit rougher. But it still feels like the same old Dover. The cars and the tires have changed way more than the race track has changed.”
