CHEVROLET’S JIMMIE JOHNSON SOLIDIFIES ROUND OF EIGHT SPOT IN THE CHASE WITH DOMINATING WIN AT CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Seven Chevrolet Drivers Finish in the Top Ten

CONCORD, N.C. (October 9, 2016) – Six-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) champion, Jimmie Johnson and his No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet SS team had to wait 24 races to reach victory lane again after a strong start to the 2016 season, but it couldn’t have come at a better time. Johnson’s 78th career NSCS win and eighth victory at Charlotte Motor Speedway enabled him to punch his ticket to the Round of 8 in the Chase for the NSCS title. Johnson made an aggressive move on the final restart of the race in the bottom groove to take the lead and never looked back. The win gives him a five point lead after the fourth race of the Chase, but he and his No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports team can rest easy over the next two races knowing they are moving on. Multi-Car Wreck Ruins Blaney’s Run At Charlotte

Multi-Car Wreck Ruins Blaney’s Run At Charlotte

October 9, 2016

In NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series, there’s always a sense of dread when it comes to racing at the restrictor-plate tracks in Daytona Beach, Fla., and Talladega, Ala. That’s because of the likelihood of drivers and their cars being knocked out of a race in a multi-car crash.

But Sunday’s Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway proved that car-crunching multi-car melees can happen at any time on any track.

On Sunday, a wreck that began at the front of the field on a Lap 260 restart damaged 12 cars including the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion driven by Ryan Blaney. Being swept up in that crash ended a strong run for the rookie driver who spent much of the race up to that point inside the top 12. He also spent several long stretches inside the top 10. Late-Race Incident Ends Austin Dillon’s Day Early at Charlotte Motor Speedway

“We felt taking two tires would help our track position. We had 14 laps on our lefts and I got through the gears well. We really struggled on pit road. We were just trying something to get track position and that is what you get. This entire Dow Coating Materials team will have to work hard the next two weeks to get the points back. I felt like I got to third gear pretty clean and then I felt contact, and then I am spinning through the grass. It’s part of it, and we took two tires there and you know the risks when you get into it. You just hope that doesn’t happen, obviously. There have been a lot of people that are in the Chase that have wrecked so far. We just have to do a lot; we have to win one of the next two races. I believe we can do just that.”

– Austin Dillon

Paul Menard’s Day Ends Early at Charlotte Motor Speedway as the Valvoline/Menards Chevrolet Involved in Wreck

“We got behind early and had just gotten back on the lead lap, making some gains with the No. 27 Valvoline/Menards Chevy. Then, that next restart, everybody just kind of checked up and I got pushed out to the outside wall and couldn’t see anything, I just ran into Chase (Elliott). I’m not sure what started it all. I guess some guys took two tires, probably spinning tires and bumping and shoving each other.”

– Paul Menard

Ryan Newman Brings Home Fourth Place Finish for Cat Racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway

“We had a good Caterpillar Chevrolet, no doubt. It was especially good at the end of a run and up top. It was like that all day. We came up short there and I know some of the guys had issues, but we had a strong car. I want to thank all the fans who came back and I hope they enjoyed the race and will stay for the next show. We’ll keep digging. It’s all about building for the future and ending the season on a strong note.”

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S CHEVROLET SS – RACE WINNER
WERE YOU BEGINNING TO WONDER IF IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN?
“No, I didn’t wonder, I just knew it was taking way too long. When you drive for Rick Hendrick and have all the great people at Hendrick Motorsports working for you, the great support from Lowe’s and everyone in their stores and Chevrolet…..there are just so many great people behind us and that support us to make this happen. We knew we would get back. Yes, it was slower than we wanted it to be but to be here today and have this victory is great. Thank you to Sprint, to the fans, to Gatorade, and to Valvoline. This is something very special to our team.”

TELL US ABOUT THE RESTART WITH THE 20 AND HOW YOU WERE ABLE TO GET THE JUMP. YOU KNEW THE OUTSIDE WAS GOING TO BE THE BEST PLACE BECAUSE YOU TOOK IT ALL DAY LONG:
“Yeah, I did. Humpy Wheeler passed out these million dollar bills from way back when and my daughter gave it to me and told me to put it in my pocket for good luck and there it is sweetie, it worked.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Charlotte Post Race

KEVIN HARVICK, NO. 4 BUSCH HUNTING CHEVROLET SS – Sidelined by a mechanical issue on lap 154
WAS IT OIL PRESSURE OR DO WE KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON YET?
“That was just a guess. I think that by process of elimination we have narrowed it down to a few things and that is one thing that they are talking about, but don’t know for sure yet until we fire back up.”

WHAT HAPPENED? DID YOU HAVE ANY WARNING?
“No, I thought it was a power issue so I cycled through everything, so by the time I figured out what happened it just shut off. It looks like low oil pressure.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Charlotte–Race Notes

CHEVROLET TAKES TOP THREE STARTING POSITIONS IN CHARLOTTE
Seven Team Chevy Drivers Qualify in Top 12

CONCORD, NC – (October 6, 2016) – Kevin Harvick captured the pole position for Chevrolet for Saturday night’s Bank of America 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Charlotte Motor Speedway with a lap of 27.547 seconds, 196.029 mph in his No. 4 Busch Hunting Chevy SS. This was Harvick’s first pole and 17th top-10 start in 2016.

It was the 685th pole in NASCAR Sprint Cup competition for Chevrolet and 32nd top starting spot at the 1.5-mile, D-shaped, Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Alex Bowman, the interim driver for Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the No. 88 Axalta Chevrolet SS qualified second and Chase Elliott was third in his No. 24 3M Chevy SS to give Chevrolet the first three starting positions. Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Charlotte Qualifying Notes

2nd – Alex Bowman, No. 88 Axalta Chevrolet SS
3rd – Chase Elliott, No. 24 3M Chevrolet SS
5th – Tony Stewart, No. 14 Mobil 1/Rev The Vote Chevrolet SS
6th – AJ Allmendinger, No. 47 Kroger/Stouffer’s/Stouffer’s Kitchen Chevrolet SS
11th – Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet SS
12th – Kasey Kahne, No. 5 Great Clips Chevrolet SS

POST QUALIFYING QUOTES:
KEVIN HARVICK, NO. 4 BUSCH HUNTING CHEVROLET SS – POLE WINNER
“I just got to the green a little bit better. The car was too loose the time before. And I got to the green better. It was good in (Turns) 1 and 2; but I felt like I gave up a little something in (Turns) 3 and 4 coming to the checkered. But, I’ve just got to thank all my sponsors and everybody on this team, Chevrolet and Hendrick engines and chassis for everything that they do and for everything that Stewart-Haas does. This has just been a fun car to drive today. Hopefully we can get it dialed in race trim.”

ON THE RACE ITSELF:
“Well, we struggled when we first rolled off the truck in race trim and got our car a little bit better and better and better. Hopefully what we learned in Qualifying, we can apply some of that stuff to the race trim stuff and go from there.”

ALEX BOWMAN, INTERIM DRIVER, NO. 88 AXALTA CHEVROLET SS – QUALIFIED 2ND
WHAT WAS THAT RUN LIKE FOR YOU?
“Honestly, we didn’t put the greatest lap together. In (Turns) 1 and 2, we were a little free in and didn’t really keep it on the bottom like I needed to. Turns 3 and 4 were really good. It means so much for Hendrick Motorsports to take a chance on me for these races. I’m really thankful to be here. I hate that we didn’t get the pole. We were so close. It’s definitely my best starting spot by a bunch, but you’d always like that pole.”

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 24 3M CHEVROLET SS – QUALIFIED 3RD
THOUGHT THAT WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR THE POLE. WHERE WOULD YOU SAY YOU LOST IT?
“Well, I thought I lost it in Turns 1 and 2, but they said I lost it in (Turns) 3 and 4. We’ll have to go back and look at watch. Obviously I wasn’t right. Everybody has been working really hard to get better. This has not been a very good place for me, historically in Qualifying; or in the race, for that matter. So, I’m really happy with that and I’m very proud of the team. We’re excited for Saturday night.”

MAKING MULTIPLE PASSES THROUGH TECH INSPECTION, WHAT’S IT LIKE TO JUMP IN WITH NEARLY NO TIME TO GET READY?
“It’s kind of part of the game. I think we see it pretty frequently these days. It’s kind of the game you’ve got to fight to push these things to where they need to be. It’s a good starting spot, but it’s just a starting spot. We have to also recognize that and go get ‘em on Saturday night.”

AJ ALLMENDINGER, NO. 47 KROGER/STOUFFER’S/STOUFFER’S KITCHEN CHEVROLET SS – QUALIFIED 6TH
“It makes a huge difference all the work that they put in. I can’t thank Stouffer’s and Harris Teeter for being on the racecar and all the great sponsors that we have that are a part of it, Kroger, everything that they do for us and on down the line all the sponsors. It’s a good start.”

WHEN WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THIS RACE RUN?
“I would like to have my Sunday off, so I want to race when we are supposed to and have a fun Saturday night race. That is what makes this race so much fun being Saturday night. Home race for everybody, for our crew guys it would be nice, especially mine. Our road crew especially they are on the road and then they come back at 7:30 a.m. in the morning Monday morning and start tearing the car a part. I want to run it Saturday night for a lot of reasons, but most importantly for all of them to get some rest because they deserve it.”

FIVE CHEVY’S IN THE TOP 10 SO WHERE ARE ALL THOSE TOYOTAS AT?
“Well, I can’t speak on the Hendrick cars, obviously they’ve got a lot of resources when it’s time to step up they usually do. For us, it’s the nature of the beast. We are trying to grow. We are trying to continually get bigger and better. Sometimes you take a step back, you know during the summer it’s hard, we lost a couple of race cars. They don’t just magically appear again at the race track or at the race shop. Like I said, it’s a brand new cars and it’s really the first batch of new cars that we are going to have. We are going to have a new car the rest of the year, but it’s the first batch since we started the year once all the cars were new. It makes a big difference. That is what makes the Sprint Cup Series so hard is the fact that these big teams no matter what rules package, tires, no matter what you throw at them they make downforce, they make grip and they get better. That is what we are fighting against and that is what we are trying to do here.”

AUSTIN DILLON, NO. 3 DOW COATING MATERIALS CHEVROLET SS – Qualified 19th
WHAT WAS MISSING IN ROUND 2?
“We were just too tight. I was going to worry about it in the first round. We were too tight and we made a big swing at it there and freed it up. It helped in (Turns) 3 and 4, but it was still too tight in (Turns) 1 and 2. So, we’ll work on it. We had a good car in practice. We just missed our balance a little bit in this nighttime stuff. We’ll be fine. I’m really happy with our Chevrolet.”

KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 TARGET CHEVROLET SS – Qualified 25th
WERE YOU CONSERVATIVE DURING THIS FIRST ROUND OR WAS THAT WHAT YOU HAD? ARE YOU HOPING FOR SOME PRACTICE TOMORROW?
“I just got loose in (Turns) 1 and 2 on my lap and lost a little bit of time there, probably gave up a tenth or more. Who knows? But, then we just ended-up waiting a little bit too long to make another run. We were sitting on the bubble and didn’t really expect that the No. 83 would go faster. And, it bit us.”

Another Santa Pod Championship!

Well, another season is over and I’m pleased to say Scott is the 2016 Santa Pod Super Pro Champion.
Nothing was easy though, another tough year in the most competitive class, sometimes with over 40 cars entered for the 32 car fields. In fact, going into the National Finals last weekend, we were more than 2 rounds behind the leader, but we managed to turn it around.

The season started at the Festival of Power at Santa Pod over the Easter weekend. The weather was always threatening and the track temperature cold but we managed to qualify in 2nd position and beat previous champion Barry Giles in the 1st round before the rain came and ruined the day.
