CORVETTE DAYTONA PROTOTYPE LEGACY: Looking at the Numbers

DETROIT (Oct. 6, 2016) – Chevrolet’s Corvette Daytona Prototype completed its five-year program with Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta on Saturday. Debuting in 2012 and covering 56 events, the Corvette DP won 36 times (64.3 percent) and swept the class podium eight times.

Chevrolet won five consecutive Engine Manufacturer titles – the Daytona Prototype category in the GRAND-AM Rolex SportsCar Series from 2012-2013 and the last three years in IMSA competition. In addition, it helped win four consecutive Driver’s Championships and three straight Team titles. The Corvette DP won at 17 different venues and was a perfect five-for-five at two events: the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix and Sahlen’s Six Hours at The Glen.

Four teams entered Corvette DPs in 2016: Action Express Racing, Wayne Taylor Racing and Visit Florida Racing. Drivers winning class championships with the Corvette DP include Ricky Taylor and Jordan Taylor (2013), Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi (2014 and 2015), and Dane Cameron and Eric Curran (2016).

“This championship is our fifth in the five years we’ve raced the Corvette Daytona Prototype,” said Mark Kent, Chevrolet Director of Motorsports Competition. “Championships like this are made possible by having great partners and teams. To each of those, I’d like to offer our thanks for your contributions and for being such great ambassadors for Chevrolet.”
