Matt Tifft Earns First Top-Five Finish of Season, Qualifies for
Xfinity Dash 4 Cash
“It feels great to put together a weekend from start to finish like this and finally get the result we deserve to go along with it. Our No. 2 National Brain Tumor Society Chevrolet Camaro was fast all day long. I felt like we managed the changing track conditions really well, whether we were practicing at 8 a.m. or racing at 7 p.m. Everyone was on it this weekend from the road crew to the pit crew. We were consistent the whole time and made the most of every opportunity, which lead to our first top-five finish of the year. That’s huge for us. To qualify for Xfinity’s Dash 4 Cash next weekend at Talladega Superspeedway on top of that is an honor. It’s my first time qualifying for that, so I’m excited to be in it. We’ll be looking to win the $100,000 and make the cut for the final weekend of the program at Dover, one of my favorite tracks on the circuit.”

Team co-owner Eddie Wood pointed out that the Menards team focused on a set up for racing conditions during Friday’s practice sessions, and didn’t make a mock qualifying run.

“We won’t be back on track until the race starts Saturday night, so the priority on a weekend like this is getting the car tuned for the race,” Wood said.”

FIVE TEAM CHEVY DRIVERS QUALIFY IN TOP 12
RICHMOND, Va. (April 20, 2018) – Chase Elliott drove his No. 9 Napa Auto Parts Camaro ZL1 to a front row starting spot in today’s knockout-style qualifying session for tomorrow night’s Toyota Owners 400 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway. Elliott turned a lap of 136.643 mph, 26.346 seconds to capture his fourth top-10 start of the season and his second in six races at Richmond.
“A much better Friday than we have been having,” Chase Elliott said after qualifying concluded. “This has been a ridiculous stretch of races for me and the No. 9 Napa Auto Parts Camaro ZL1 team. We have just been struggling and kind of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. We have had fast cars at times, just hasn’t seemed to work out. I typically don’t qualify very good, so I’m happy we could have a good qualifying effort and hopefully, our car in race trim is one spot better.” Continue reading CHASE ELLIOTT PUTS CAMARO ZL1 ON OUTSIDE FRONT ROW AT RICHMOND FIVE TEAM CHEVY DRIVERS QUALIFY IN TOP 12

Iconic Supercar Is 15th Corvette To Lead ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing’
INDIANAPOLIS (April 19, 2018) – The 2019 Corvette ZR1 is the official Pace Car for the 2018 Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil and will lead drivers to the green flag Sunday, May 27 for the 102nd Running of the legendary race.
It marks the 15th time a Corvette has served as the official Pace Car, starting in 1978, and the 29th time a Chevrolet has led the field, dating back to 1948, when a 1948 Fleetmaster Six convertible paced the race.
No other vehicle has served as the Pace Car more than the Corvette. To celebrate the iconic supercar’s connection to “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” the 2019 Corvette ZR1 and the other 14 Corvettes that have paced the “500” were on display on the front straightaway today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. DETROIT (April 18, 2018) – The diverse Verizon IndyCar Series (VICS) season intersects with the long and winding road course of Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, this weekend for the third distinct challenge for Chevrolet teams and drivers in as many weeks.
Chevrolet has won the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama on the 2.38-mile, 17-turn natural-terrain circuit the past three years, with Josef Newgarden recording two victories and Team Penske teammate Simon Pagenaud taking the checkered flag on his drive to the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series championship.
Newgarden’s dominant victory in 2015, in which he led more than half the 90 laps, was his first in an Indy car, and his 2017 win was the first of a series-high four during the season that led to his maiden driver title.
The race will be the first test on a road course of the Dallara chassis with the new universal aerodynamic bodywork powered by the 2.2-liter, twin-turbocharged, direct-injected V6 Chevrolet engine.
Two weeks ago, Newgarden drove the No. 1 Team Penske Chevrolet to his eighth career win on the 1.022-mile ISM Raceway oval in Avondale, Arizona. Last weekend, Will Power led the Team Chevy charge with a runner-up finish on the 1.968-mile, 11-turn Long Beach street circuit in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet.
“Barber is one of my favorite tracks we visit — not just because we’ve won there — but because it’s a cool track and it’s only a few hours away from where I grew up (in Nashville, Tennessee). That just makes it even more special when I’ve won there,” said Newgarden, who is second in the standings heading into the fourth of 17 races. “Barber is going to be interesting since it’s the first time we’re racing the new car on a road course. I think it could lead to some really exciting racing for the great fans at Barber and the fans at home. The whole No. 1 Hitachi Chevrolet team and I are ready to take the strong car we have ready for this weekend to the track and run a great race.”
Twenty-four Verizon IndyCar Series drivers had the opportunity March 20 to test on the Barber Motorsports Park course. At 1 minute, 07.9793 seconds (121.802 mph), Newgarden clicked off the quickest lap and Power was a close second.
“Long Beach was really great for the whole No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet team,” Power said. “It’s done a lot for team morale going into this weekend at Barber. Road courses are always a lot of fun and I’m really looking forward to racing one with the new car.”
In 2017, Chevy Racing won four of the six races on road courses (Newgarden at Barber at Mid-Ohio, Power at Indianapolis, and Pagenaud at Sonoma) and claimed 10 of 18 podium positions.
NBCSN will telecast the race live at 3 p.m. ET Sunday.

Cruz Pedregon Houston Preview
NHRA® Team Report
NHRA Spring Nationals – Houston
Pre-Race Report
Cruz Pedregon and team will debut a new Snap-on Toyota chassis in Houston that will run full-time after this weekend. “It’s a terrific opportunity for us to have a fresh car on a track that’s been good to us in the past,” Pedregon says. “We always enjoy the races here in Texas. Since we’ve won here at Royal Purple three times before, the plan is to make it a nice even four wins.”
Crew Chief Aaron Brooks says, “We made a couple of test runs with the new chassis before we left Las Vegas, and we like what we were able to accomplish. We’re looking forward to great results this weekend.”
Cruz spent some time in Houston visiting Snap-on franchise customers and doing media interviews before Friday’s qualifying rounds.
On the side of Cruz’s car this week –
If you’ll check the side of Cruz’s car this week, you’ll see the name of local Snap-on Nitro Franchisee Ryan Kasper. Ryan has had his Snap-on franchise business since 1995 and says his interest started with a borrowed wrench. He needed something that would take a bolt off his four-wheeler, and his neighbor loaned him a Snap-on tool. Ryan also had two great uncles who sold Snap-on products, so the brand has long been a part of his family tree. He says he enjoys coming to the track and that “there’s nothing like the smell of nitro in the stands.”
