Menard, Wood Brothers Ready For Another Memorable Trip To Bristol

April 11, 2018

For anyone who loves NASCAR-style auto racing, from drivers to fans and every one in between, any trip to Bristol Motor Speedway is a memorable one, especially that first visit.

For Eddie Wood, co-owner of the No. 21 Menards/Dutch Boy Ford driven by Paul Menard, that first Bristol trip as a true member of the Wood Brothers race team came in the summer of 1968.

“That’s the year I turned 16, and you had to be 16 to be in the garage,” Wood said. “It was the first time I got to wear one of the red-and-white crew shirts.” Continue reading Menard, Wood Brothers Ready For Another Memorable Trip To Bristol

Giovanni Scelzi Nets Top-10 Result During KWS-NARC Season Opener

Inside Line Promotions – BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (April 10, 2018) – Giovanni Scelzi garnered his first top-10 finish of the season on Sunday at The Dirt Track at Kern County Raceway Park.

Scelzi and his family owned, Roth Motorsports backed No. 41 began the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series season-opening event by qualifying eighth quickest. He then won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row to earn enough points to make the dash.

“We didn’t time in very good so I knew I had to win the heat to make it into the dash,” he said. “We were good in the heat and it paid off.”

Scelzi then placed sixth in the dash to start the A Main on the outside of the third row.

“They ripped the track up before the feature and it was one lane around the bottom,” he said. “We thought it’d go away and it never did. I tried to make something happen on the top and it just wasn’t there. In the first 10 laps I tried three or four times up there, but every time I tried a lane up I lost ground or fell back.”

Scelzi closed the night with an eighth-place result.

“I feel like I’m racing better every night,” he said. “Hopefully the results will start reflecting that soon.”

Scelzi will pilot his family car this Friday at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., with the Taco Bravo Sprints and Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., for the 3rd annual Jimmy Sills Classic with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

Kirsty Widdrington – BDC Round 1 2018 Rockingham Motor Speedway

Firstly I would like to welcome you all to the 2018 Competition Drifting Season!
Before I get stuck into my event write up I would like to take this opportunity to once again Thank each and every Sponsor/Partner that we are working with for this season as without your help & support we would not be able to continue on our mission to compete in this fantastically crazy (quickly growing) Motorsport that is Drifting!

Myself, #syrilthesilvia & the team headed to Rockingham Motor Speedway to get all set up & ready to rock it after a small amount of pre-season testing! To say it was “rather wet” would be a slight understatement as the rain was fiercely falling from the sky along with strong winds which made setting up our pit area a soaking wet tough affair.
Set up complete we bedded down in the van for the night still with the rain hammering the roof of the van & sadly some other competitors gazebo’s not making it through the night unscathed, thankfully ours was strapped down to the van & Syril. CORVETTE RACING AT LONG BEACH: By the Numbers

DETROIT (April 9, 2018) – Corvette Racing and the Long Beach Grand Prix have something in common: each is a constant in their respective fields. Long Beach is America’s longest-running motorsports street race, and Corvette Racing is sports car racing’s longest-running program.

The two will share the stage again this year at next weekend’s Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach – Corvette Racing’s 12th consecutive visit to the 1.968-mile, 11-turn street circuit. No sports car program can claim a streak of appearances of that length at Long Beach – one that stretches back to the team’s first start in 2007 as part of the American Le Mans Series and has continued uninterrupted into the present-day WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. WHAT DOES THIS WIN MEAN TO YOU AFTER MORE THAN A YEAR TRYING?
“It’s a big boost to our confidence. We have a great team, great car, and I can’t thank the Mitzos family enough for giving me this opportunity. I think this is my fifth or sixth final here in Vegas. Finally got it done.”

WHAT POINT DURING THE DAY DID YOU THINK, ‘OK, MAYBE’?

Long Day for Austin Dillon and the No. 3 SYMBICORT® (budesonide/formoterol fumarate dihydrate) Chevrolet Team ends in 27th-Place Finish at Texas Motor Speedway

“What a day! We ended up with damage after we were involved in a wreck at the very beginning of the race, but that didn’t slow down the No. 3 team. We worked hard to stay competitive, and I really thought we would end up okay. With about 100 laps to go the cockpit filled with smoke. We ended up in the garage to change a hub. Still, there is so much heart in this team. We made it back out to finish the race. I want to thank our new partner, AstraZeneca, and their SYMBICORT® (budesonide/formoterol fumarate dihydrate) brand, for hanging with us today. It’ a long season and we’ll be back at it next week.”

Ryan Newman and No. 31 Grainger Camaro ZL1 Team
Finish 27th at Texas Motor Speedway

“This Grainger Camaro ZL1 had good speed this weekend. We stayed consistently in or around the top-12 for most of the race, but tried to stretch our last run there and ended up blowing a tire and hitting the wall. I thought I probably could have left Texas with a top-10 finish if not for the blown tire, but things like that happen. It’s a gamble that didn’t pay off. I think the racing at Texas is exciting, and definitely fast, but we’re still getting adjusted to the new surface. We’ll be ready for when we come back in the fall, hopefully in the playoffs.”

Wickens Leads Impressive Honda Effort in Phoenix

Wickens Leads Impressive Honda Effort in Phoenix
• Robert Wickens rebounds for second-place finish at ISM Raceway
• Alexander Rossi charges to third place after early penalty
• Honda drivers claim five of top six finishing positions

AVONDALE, Ariz. (April 7, 2018) – Six Honda drivers led a total of 137 laps in Saturday night’s Desert Diamond Phoenix Grand Prix at ISM Raceway, with Robert Wickens claiming a second-place finish in his first career Verizon IndyCar Series oval event.

A late-race caution, and the resulting decision by some teams to pit for fresh tires while others elected to stay out and maintain their track position, helped determine the final outcome. Wickens, one of the drivers to stay on track, led the field when the green flag flew for the final time on Lap 243, with seven laps remaining. But Joseph Newgarden, on fresh rubber, needed only three laps to pull off an outside pass of Wickens and claim the victory. Continue reading Wickens Leads Impressive Honda Effort in Phoenix

TEAM CHEVY POST RACE REPORT
APRIL 7, 2018

AVONDALE, Ariz. (April 7, 2018) – Josef Newgarden trusted that when his race strategist, Tim Cindric, called him down pit lane – from the lead – under caution with 17 laps remaining in the 250-lap race, that four new tires were going to be the ticket to victory lane.

The defending Verizon IndyCar Series (VICS) champion blended back into the field for the restart in the fourth position. When the green flag flew, he was second by the end of the first green lap and set his sights on the leader. With three laps to go, his four new tires were no match for Robert Wickens as he swept around the outside to take the lead and capture his first win of the 2018 season behind the wheel of the No. 1 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet.

“We had everything,” said Newgarden from Winner’s Circle. “We had the whole package, we had the Team Chevy power and we had the fuel mileage from Team Chevy that we needed. It’s great to be able to have Verizon on the car finally and getting victories for them feels so good. This was a Team Penske victory. It wasn’t just me. It was all these guys.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Phoenix Grand Prix–Josef Newgarden

JOSEF NEWGARDEN, NO. 1 VERIZON TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET, RACE WINNER
HOW CONFIDENT WERE YOU WITH SEVEN LAPS TO GO THAT THOSE NEW TIRES WOULD MAKE THE DIFFERENCE?
“Well, I was confident in the team. I don’t think I did anything tonight. This was a team victory. They gave me the pit stops, they had the strategy, I was working with rocket scientist on the pit stand – those guys are awesome, but it was a team effort. I wasn’t sure, you know you never know if you make the right call, but they did, they made the right call. It was good we were on the offense. That Firestone rubber is really good when it’s new. It’s good when it’s old too, but I like it better when it’s new. It’s really cool to have Verizon on the car for Victory Lane here. Just everyone, all of our supporters, Tim (Cindric) he was making calls it’s a good night for all of us at Team Penske.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Phoenix Grand Prix
