Selected quotes from Team Penske drivers:

SIMON PAGENAUD, NO. 1 MENARDS TEAM PENSKE CHEVROLET:

YOU’VE BEEN THE FASTEST PENSKE DRIVER ON RACEDAY THE LAST TWO YEARS. WITH THE AERO KITS FROZEN SINCE LAST YEAR, DOES THAT MEAN YOU’VE HAD LESS TO DO THIS YEAR? “I don’t know. The car is pretty much the same from the last two years. We didn’t feel like changing was going to make me feel better. We’ve actually tried a few things and every time it is worse. So we went back on track really quickly and worked mostly aerodynamics. We’re learning every year on the body kits. We are working on finding less drag and still keeping downforce on the car. The mechanical setup hasn’t changed at all so I’m quite comfortable that way. I know exactly how my race car stands, and that gives me confidence.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Indy 500–Media Day Quotes

TORRANCE, Calif, (May 25, 2017) – The Acura NSX GT3 was built to run on some of the world’s most demanding road courses, many with sprawling layouts featuring long straights that allow the supercar to stretch its legs.

This weekend’s event at Lime Rock Park is the antithesis of this concept however, as the tight 1.5-mile layout of Lime Rock Park offers an entirely different type of challenge for the drivers of the RealTime Racing Acura NSX GT3. Scelzi Advances to Earn Eighth-Place Result at Thunderbowl Raceway

Scelzi Advances to Earn Eighth-Place Result at Thunderbowl Raceway

Inside Line Promotions – TULARE, Calif. (May 24, 2017) – Dominic Scelzi recorded his fourth top-10 finish of the season last Saturday at Thunderbowl Raceway during a King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Sprint Car Series event.

“We improved on our qualifying and that was a big key,” he said. “We went back to what I was doing last year and it worked.”

Scelzi timed in fifth quickest during qualifying in his Roth Motorsports supported, family owned sprint car. That lined him up on the inside of the second row for a heat race.

“We’re thinking a dirt clod got under the hood in the heat race because the engine would only idle at 5,000 RPMs,” he said. “It wouldn’t go low enough when I lifted for the engine to slow down so that was tough.”

Scelzi placed fourth in the heat race to lock into the 11th starting position for the main event.

“They reworked the race track, which was unfortunate,” he said. “It ended up being really fast and hooked up so passing was really tough. We were able to get by a couple of guys, but it was so tough to pass. You really had to have a good run going or they’d have to make a mistake to get by them.”

Scelzi posted an eighth-place result.

“It’s a big step in the right direction,” he said. “I’ve got my comfort back. We’ve got speed. This is the way it needs to be. I think we’re only going to get better.”

Scelzi will drive for Nick McColloch this Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour.

“I’m really excited to get there,” Scelzi said. “I was fast in Nick’s car there during the season finale last year. I think it’s a good weekend to knock off our first win.”

He has earned two career 410ci winged sprint car wins at the track and has scored three top fives during 360 competition.

Shawn Valenti Wins 1st Career Engine Pro SOD by ARP Feature @ Baer Field Motorsports Park

ERIE, MI (May 22, 2017) – Fostoria, Ohio driver, Shawn Valenti would led all 30 laps of the Engine Pro Sprints On Dirt presented by ARP MAHLE/Clevite Beyond Limits Challenge Race #1 at Baer Field Motorsports Park to score his first career SOD victory.

The first race on the Baer Field Motorsports Park new ¼ mile track was originally scheduled for Saturday. Unfortunately very heavy rains turned the track into something referred to as “Baer Lake,” but promoter Dave Muzzillo didn’t give up and surprisingly was able to get the track in shape for the Sunday rain date. Quick Facts about Historic Baer Field Motorsports Park SOD Race

ERIE, MI (May 23, 2017) – After being rained out Saturday, Engine Pro Sprints On Dirt presented by ARP headlined the first-ever race on Fort Wayne, Indian’s Baer Field Motorsports Park new dirt track on Sunday night for the first race of SOD’s MAHLE/Clevite Beyond KLimits Challenge five-race series. Numerous facts about the event make it a truly historical event for both Baer Field Motorsports Park and Sprints On Dirt.

New ¼ mile track
The track crew put out a massive effort to make sure the Sunday race could take place. Several inches of rain resulted in the track being referred to as “Baer Lake” Sunday morning, then more rain came. The infield was pumped out and against all odds, the track was prepped for racing. Promoter Dave Muzzillo could have easily thrown in the towel, but was determined to get the race in.

Andrew Scheid
Thirteen-year-old Andrew Scheid, a SOD sprint car rookie of the year contender, raced a full-size sprint for the first time and drew many compliments. After qualifying seventh in his heat group, Scheid finished last in his heat. He then grabbed a fourth in the B Main to advance to the feature where he finished eighteenth, dropping out early in consideration of the fast field. Andrew dodged a few incidents that developed in front of him. He even executed a successful 360 degree spin to avoid a car that had spun to a stop in front of him.

Scheid has extensive racing experience and numerous wins in karts and lightning sprints.

Diverse field
The SOD “beyond limits” format continues to have broad appeal for race teams from many segments of sprint car racing.

Winner Valenti and Dan McCarron are currently regulars in the 410 class at Attica Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway. Valenti has has had great success in thunderstocks and dirt trucks in Ohio and Indiana.

2nd-place finisher Joe Swanson, 5th place Steve Irwin, and 6th place Brad Wyatt have had success in winged sprint pavement racing. Irwin has won pavement championships and #71H car owner Steve Smith has also won pavement championships as an owner.

3rd place Landon Simon is a successful USAC competitor who ran his first winged sprint race Sunday. Irwin and Wyatt also have extensive non-wing experience.

4th place Thomas Schinderle previously raced modifieds, then was a regular in the Attica/Fremont FAST 305 class.

Matt Prieur
Matt Prieur & Shawn ValentiSOD rookie announcer Matt Prieur got his first SOD race in Sunday. The former World of Outlaws late model announcer is also the announcer for the American Ethanol Late Model Tour, the American Ethanol Modified Tour, and occasional pavement races.

Prieur has been a hockey referee for 24 years. He has also been the color commentator for an Ontario Hockey League game.

Prieur has been announcing since 1989.

MCRP/SOD Safety Crew

SOD competitors got their first look at the MCRP safety crew. They were quick to assist in any on-track incidents.
