ROBERT HIGHT READY TO RACE AT HISTORIC BRAINERD
INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY
BRAINERD, Minn. (Aug. 15, 2018) — To say the idea of heading back to Brainerd International Raceway excites two time and reigning world champion Robert Hight is an understatement. The driver of the Auto Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS Funny Car made history at last year’s Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals and with two wins already under his belt this season and a solid hold on the No. 3 points position, it’s game on.

“Brainerd is where we set the quickest run in Funny Car history a 3.793-seconds, the first 3.7 Funny Car run,” explained Hight. “It’s a great race track with great fans and usually great racing conditions. If the conditions are there, we’ll be able to run good there again this year.” Continue reading ROBERT HIGHT READY TO RACE AT HISTORIC BRAINERD INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

Three victories in Virginia for Corvette Racing since 2012

Quartet of drivers very much in GT Le Mans title chase
Garcia, Magnussen winners last two seasons at VIR
Gavin, Milner looking for second Virginia victory together

DETROIT (Aug. 15, 2018) – Corvette Racing’s title chase in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship takes it to a circuit where – not surprisingly – it has shown significant strength: Virginia International Raceway.

This weekend’s Michelin GT Challenge is a GT-only weekend with the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class taking top billing. It’s a situation that has worked out well for Corvette Racing in the past with the program looking for a third straight victory – and fourth in class since 2012 – at the 3.27-mile, 17-turn circuit that straddles the borders of North Carolina and Virginia. Giovanni Scelzi Surpasses Jeff Gordon’s Record for Youngest Driver to Make Knoxville Nationals A Main

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 14, 2018) – Giovanni Scelzi continues to capture attention as he became the youngest driver to earn a starting spot into the famed Knoxville Nationals last weekend.

The 16-year-old bested the previous mark by Jeff Gordon, who had recently turned 18-years-old when he set the record in 1989.

“It’s the hardest race of the year to make and the biggest race,” Scelzi said. “It blew away expectations for me. You try to go into every race with the same mindset, but at the Knoxville Nationals you can’t treat it the same because the best drivers in the world are there. There’s not a tougher race in the world. To lock in and be one of the top 16, it was cool to be a part of. I wanted to run last year at Knoxville and the age thing didn’t let me. To beat Jeff Gordon’s record, which stood for 29 years, was really cool.” Continue reading Giovanni Scelzi Surpasses Jeff Gordon’s Record for Youngest Driver to Make Knoxville Nationals A Main

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 13, 2018) – The 58 th annual 5-Hour Energy Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Stores couldn’t have been much more emotional for Dominic Scelzi, whose roller coaster ride shifted from heartbreak to triumph during sprint car racing’s marquee event last weekend at Knoxville Raceway.

The spectacle began on Wednesday at the half-mile oval, where Scelzi qualified 23rd quickest after going out late among the more than 40 competitors. He then won a heat race from the fourth starting position to move into 11th in points, which lined him up on the inside of the sixth row for the A Main. Kirsty Widdrigton–BDC Round 2 2018–Teesside Autodrome

After a disappointing trip to Ireland previously for IDC Round 2 we had BDC the following weekend, after having our prop failure we had desperately tried to source a replacement however it turned out that the prop shaft that came with the gearbox conversion was a “bitsa” model however luckily for us a very good friend Ali lent us his one piece prop shaft for this weekend so that we could attend the event and not only that but he carried out a 5 hour round trip to drop this off to us to enable us to compete whilst in the middle of moving house! (What an absolute hero!) Continue reading Kirsty Widdrigton–BDC Round 2 2018–Teesside Autodrome

TOOELE, Utah (August 12, 2018) – RealTime Racing driver Ryan Eversley kept a firm grip on the World Challenge Touring Car Series points lead that he has cultivated all season long with a pair of podium finishes Sunday, bringing his Honda Civic Type R home in third place in both Saturday and Sunday races at Utah Motorsports Campus.

Eversley chased Bryan Herta Autosport drivers Michael Lewis and Mark Wilkins throughout two trying events on the 3.048-mile road circuit outside of Salt Lake City, but was unable to prevent the Hyundai drivers from earning 1-2 sweeps in both races.

Austin Dillon and the Dow WE Are Innovators Camaro ZL1 Team Capitalize on Fast Car to Earn Top-Five Finish at Michigan International Speedway

“I want to thank everybody at RCR and ECR for the strong car today. We raced the Dow WE Are Innovators Camaro ZL1, and boy did it feel good having a car fast enough to battle with Kevin Harvick. I’m so proud of the guys for building a car capable of doing that. We were in a position that if something happened to the No. 4 (Harvick), we could have won the race. With two laps to go, I went into Turn 3 and I missed the corner. When I came down the straightaway, the car was shaking like either the tire was unraveling or it was a loose wheel. I didn’t want to lose the great finish we had in front of us, so I held on and fortunately was able to get the top-five finish. Today gave this team a lot of momentum, and I have to thank my pit crew who was fast all day. It just feels good. We have the capability to win when we put our best days together, so we will definitely keep up this hard work.”

Ryan Newman Earns Stage Points and Leads Laps in the Grainger Camaro ZL1 Despite 15th-Place Finish at
Michigan International Speedway

“Our No. 31 Grainger Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 had a lot of speed today at Michigan International Speedway. We started off really strong by running in the top 10 for the entire first stage. Through the first few laps, the car was a little tight but it freed up as we got through the stage. Finishing eighth at the end of Stage 1 was big for this team. It’s crucial to get as many points as possible as we approach the Playoffs, which is exactly what we did. However, the second stage proved to be difficult. Less than 15 laps into Stage 2, the right rear brake line broke. We had to come in several times during the stage to fix the issue. The crew worked their tails off to quickly solve the problem and get the car back on the track. During the final stage, we led the race for several laps and took advantage of it until we needed to come in for fuel with 10 laps remaining. Our team fought hard to keep us on the lead lap which resulted in finishing 15th. The Grainger Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was definitely a top-10 car, had it not been for the brake line issue. We’ll gather the troops and regroup as we prepare for the night race at Bristol next weekend.”

Menard Finishes 16th at Michigan

August 12, 2018

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Earn While You Learn/NewFordTech.com Ford ran around 10th place for much of Sunday’s Consumers Energy 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

But a long, 57-lap stretch of green-flag racing at the end of Sunday’s race worked against the team’s pit strategy and Menard wound up 16th at the finish.

Menard started the race from the 14th position and quickly drove his way into the top 10, where he ran until the competition caution flag was displayed at Lap 25. Continue reading Menard Finishes 16th at Michigan

Matt Tifft Rebounds at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course to Record Third Top-5 Finish

“We were so close today with our No. 2 Fanatics / Cleveland Indians Chevrolet Camaro. I knew coming to Mid-Ohio we’d have a really good shot at it, and Randall (Burnett, crew chief) and the team did a great job setting up this week’s car. We qualified fifth, which is our second highest starting spot of the year. Once we fired off for the race, my Chevrolet was a little loose on both directions, but I was able to keep it up front and finish in the top 10 for Stages 1 and 2. We pitted in between Stage 2 and 3 from the second spot and had a miscue on pit road, which shuffled us back in traffic to start the final stage. Luckily, the handling in my Camaro got better throughout the stage and I was able to get back into the top 10 and into the second spot for a while. We just didn’t have the tires at the end to keep up with the leader and fell back to fourth. Overall, it was a really good day at my home track. We were in contention for a lot of it and just need to continue putting together races like this one. I’m really looking forward to getting another shot at the road courses when we go to Road America in a couple of weeks.”
