FASTER THAN A SPEEDING…CHEVROLET:
Career-long Chevrolet driver, Jeff Gordon, holds the track qualifying record at Michigan International Speedway. Gordon posted a lap of 206.558 mph in his Chevrolet SS on August 15, 2014.

OUT FRONT:
A red hot colored Camaro ZL1 will serve as the official pace car for the Consumer Energy 400. The Camaro ZL1 is assembled approximately 60 miles from MIS in Lansing, Michigan. A year ago, the Camaro ZL1 was formally introduced as Chevrolet’s NASCAR Cup Series entry.

RACE REWIND:
Last weekend at Watkins Glen International, Camaro ZL1 driver, Chase Elliott earned his first career Cup Series victory and took the Camaro ZL1 to Winner’s Circle for just the second time since the nameplate debuted as Chevrolet’s Cup Series flagship in the season-opening Daytona 500 earlier this year. This weekend, the 22-year-old Chevrolet pilot will make his 100th career Cup Series start at Chevy’s home track, Michigan International Speedway.

QUOTABLE QUOTES:
KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 DC SOLAR CAMARO ZL1 – 8TH IN STANDINGS
“When you’ve had success at a particular track, you always look forward to heading back there and hopefully continuing to build on that success. We have brought a lot of fast Chevy’s to Michigan over my career, and we’d love to take the 42 back to victory lane there. We kind of struggled at the first Michigan race this year, but had a really good car for the race before sustaining some damage around the halfway point. Hopefully we learned some things the last race weekend that can help us unload a little better and be in a position to be competitive throughout the race.”

CHASE ELLIOTT, NO. 9 NAPA AUTO PARTS CAMARO ZL1 – 11TH IN STANDINGS
“We weren’t very good at Michigan the first race there earlier this year. I was pretty encouraged by the way we ran at Pocono the week before and then going up there I really thought we were going to be better. It was kind of a struggle of a weekend all weekend. Things didn’t come very easy like they have there in the past. I think we have some work to do. I would like to think we have gotten better since the first race there, but obviously hard to say until we get back.”

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S FOR PROS CAMARO ZL1 – 14TH IN STANDINGS
ON CHASE’S BIG WIN:
“I’m beyond happy for Chase and proud of the effort and strides we have been making at Hendrick Motorsports – what a great win for this company. I’m looking forward to carrying that momentum with us to Michigan this weekend.”

ALEX BOWMAN, NO. 88 AXALTA CAMARO ZL1 – 15TH IN STANDINGS
ON WHAT HE AND THE TEAM NEED TO DO TO IMPROVE THEIR RESULTS AT MIS:
“A full race without anything bad happening. We have had dumb luck there. We had that rain shortened race there. We just need to put together a whole race and run where we have the speed to run. We will wait and see. I like that place. We weren’t as strong this time there as I thought we would be, but our cars are getting better each and every week so I think we can be much better there this coming race.”

RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 31 GRAINGER CAMARO ZL1 – 19TH IN STANDINGS

WILLIAM BYRON, NO. 24 LIBERTY UNIVERSITY CAMARO ZL1 – 20TH IN STANDINGS
“I think this race at Michigan will be a little different than the first race just because it will most likely be a little hotter than it was in June. I think you’ll need to move around a little more than in the first race, but we’ll still try to apply what we learned the first time. We were pretty good there in June, so hopefully the second time around is even better.”

AUSTIN DILLON, NO. 3 CAMARO ZL1 – 21ST IN STANDINGS
“The car wasn’t bad there at Michigan this year. I thought we had a decent piece. Rain came and kind of screwed up a little bit of that, but we never really got the track position that we needed. So, track position is going to be what we will focus on more this time around. I feel like our car is capable of being in the top 10 if we have the track position there.”

JAMIE MCMURRAY, NO. 1 MCDONALD’S/CESSNA CAMARO ZL1 – 22ND IN STANDINGS
“Fast, is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Michigan Speedway. That and wide-open racing with all the grooves. Michigan is so wide and the track offers a lot of room to find a groove that works good for however the car is handling. We have had a run of about five or six straight top-10 finishes there. I feel like our cars have been getting better and hopefully we can keep the momentum going after a strong weekend last week.”

AJ ALLMENDINGER, NO. 47 KROGER CLICKLIST CAMARO ZL1 – 23RD IN STANDINGS
“Throughout the years of racing at Michigan (International Speedway), the track has really gotten slick and widens out. We definitely saw that in the first race in June. I always find it’s a challenging weekend because when you start out the weekend for practice on Friday, the track is one groove-wide and it doesn’t really widen out until the end of final practice on Saturday. It’s starting to also get very temperature sensitive, similar to Charlotte (Motor Speedway). The weather is supposed to be really nice this weekend, which will be different from the rain that we saw in the first race weekend. It’s going to be warm and slick, and we’re all going to be sliding around throughout the large grooves. ”

CHRIS BUESCHER, NO. 37 SLIM JIM CAMARO ZL1 – 24TH IN STANDINGS
“Michigan (International Speedway) is a really fast racetrack. I really like that track. It’s fun to race on, and is starting to get racier every time we go there. The track has come into its own a little bit slower than some of the other tracks that have undergone repaves, and it’s been really narrow. We’re starting to be able to move around and run the bottom a little bit more. You can make up some time going up a little bit higher than the middle groove too, and we can go and spread out and actually start to draft a little bit there as well. We had really good speed at the June race, and got a top-10 finish at this race last year, so I’m looking forward to getting back there and seeing what we can do with our Slim Jim Camaro ZL1.”

DARRELL ‘BUBBA’ WALLACE, NO. 43 CAMARO ZL1 – 25TH IN STANDINGS

KASEY KAHNE, NO. 95 WRL GENERAL CONTRACTORS CAMARO ZL1 – 28TH IN STANDINGS
“Michigan has always been fast, but since they repaved it, the track has really picked up a lot of speed. You carry that speed into the corner, you carry that speed through the center of the corner, and off the exit. It’s a fast and smooth track with a lot of grip. Restarts are critical at Michigan, and usually if you’re on the outside, it works out better as long as you can hold your position through Turn 2, and then carry the speed down the backstretch into Turn 3. It just seems like you can pass a little bit more if you can make that all happen on a restart. The inside can work as well, especially if someone gets bottled up on the inside lane and slides up in front of the outside row in (Turns) 1 and 2, which can happen pretty easily. Restarts at Michigan are critical to gain spots, and if you’re in a tough position, it’s really easy to lose spots.”

TY DILLON, NO. 13 GEICO CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 – 29TH IN STANDINGS
“We were not very competitive at the start of the June race in Michigan. We made a lot of changes throughout the race, though, and were running pretty strong at the end. Our GEICO Camaro ZL1 team is hoping to go back and capitalize on where we ended the race. We want to have a race car that will start practice around where we finished and continue to get better throughout the weekend. That’s really what we’re looking at to improve the year. When we visit tracks for the second time, we want to pick up where we left off and not start back at the beginning.”
