Paul Menard and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team will be honoring a legendary driver and a family of loyal Ford fans during this weekend’s fourth-annual throwback-themed Bojangles Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.

The No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion will carry a red-and-white paint scheme reminiscent of the Wood Brothers’ 1968 Mercury Cyclone that Cale Yarborough drove to victory in the 1968 Southern 500, which was held 50 years ago to the day from Sunday’s 500. Top JEGS.com drivers bring winning records
to Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals
INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 28) — The top drivers from the JEGS.com camp plan to paint Lucas Oil Raceway a familiar shade of yellow and black at this year’s 64th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals with dreams of winning the sport’s top prize in five different eliminators.

Leading the charge in his JEGS.com/Elite Performance Chevrolet Camaro Pro Stocker, six-time world champion and five-time Indy winner Jeg Coughlin Jr. is riding a wave of top performances this summer into the sport’s biggest shindig.

“Not too many cars or teams have enjoyed the momentum we’ve built this summer here at Elite Motorsports,” said Jeg Jr., a four-time national event winner this year. “It’s been a good year and we’re ripping and rearing to go this weekend.

“Most everyone knows this is the Super Bowl of drag racing. It’s a race sponsors, team owners, drivers and crew personnel hold in very high regard so we place a lot of emphasis on this event. Plus, it’s the last race of the regular season and it awards points and a half so we’re all fighting for our playoff spot because the overall points will be reset come Monday night and the higher up you finish now, the better start you have for the Countdown.”

Jeg Jr. won the Indy Pro Stock title in 2000, 2002 and 2009. He also claimed the Super Gas trophy in 1992 and the HEMI Challenge crown in 2004.

“All these great features I’ve been reading on NHRA.com about Indy has me all excited,” Jeg Jr. said. “It’s going to be a great event and extra special with brother Troy continuing his back-from-retirement tour in Pro Mod, my nephew Troy Jr. coming into the weekend on a big winning streak, my father-in-law Al and brother-in-law Jason Kenny racing with us, and Luke Bogacki wheeling the JEGS.com Vette in Super Gas.”

Back from a little time off, three-time Pro Mod series champion Troy Coughlin Sr. will be searching for his second U.S. Nationals trophy, this time in his JEGS.com twin-turbo Ford Mustang. Working once again with decorated crew chief Steve Petty, the reigning champion of the E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod Drag Racing Series would love to have a break-through race this weekend.

“We’ve had a couple months since the last (Pro Mod) race and the guys have been working nonstop on the car,” Troy Sr. said. “I drove it myself a few weeks back and it’s definitely improved from where we started. They’re still testing now, and I know once Steve gets done with it that thing will be a beast.

“We have some simple goals for Indy: Qualify in the top six and race to the semifinals at least so we can try our luck from there. If we can take out some of the big guys along the way, then we’re living in a perfect world. No matter what, I’m excited to go to Indy. It’s the coolest race there is and it brings out the best in everyone. We’ll be ready.”

Troy Coughlin Jr.

Troy’s son, Troy Coughlin Jr., arrives in town on a two-race winning streak in his JEGS.com McPhillips Racing Top Alcohol Dragster and will also contest Indy in the JEGS.com Super Comp Dragster. Troy Jr. has won Indy twice, once in Super Comp (2010) and once in Super Gas (2014).

Family friend Luke Bogacki will also represent JEGS.com in the team’s Chevrolet Corvette roadster, vying for the Super Gas title. Bogacki triumphed in the Super Comp class at Indy in 2015.

Some people divine a theatrical quality in the sport of drag racing. Steven McRae gives credence to that idea.

As a Principal dancer at The Royal Ballet, McRae is a world-leading exponent of the most arduous and exacting artistic profession. As a denizen of Australian dragstrips throughout his childhood and youth, he knows full well the dramatic aura of the quarter-mile ‘stage’. Matt Tifft will Drive No. 2 Chevrolet Camaro Modeled After Marcis’ 1976 Chevrolet

WELCOME, N.C. (August 28, 2018) – In celebration of the NASCAR Throwback weekend at Darlington Raceway, Richard Childress Racing will honor longtime friend and former test driver Dave Marcis. Matt Tifft’s No. 2 Surface Sunscreen Chevrolet Camaro will sport a throwback paint scheme representing Marcis’ 1976 No. 2 Chevrolet during the NASCAR Xfinity race at the track deemed “Too Tough To Tame.”

While Marcis only drove an RCR entry once during an October 1995 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at ISM Raceway, he has been a longtime friend to Richard Childress and had a close connection with Dale Earnhardt Sr., often going hunting and fishing with the pair. Marcis also served as RCR’s favorite test driver and had a large part in helping test and set up Earnhardt’s No. 3 Chevrolet that won the 1998 Daytona 500. Race Report Malmgren Pro Stock racing

Its has been a tuff 2 weeks with 2 races back to back, at Hochheim we where fastest car every run ( only the top 4 cars came to this long distance race) but on raceday track went super hot over 130 and we just over powered it, even if we tryed to leave low and run it safe, we spun like crazy of line with only 1.03 60ft, against Norens 1.00, we had almost identical reaction time within 0.006 sec and I catsch it all up at stripe, so we are not missing any power that is for sure, but we needed another 10 ft lengh track and we would have made it, we where 0.005 behind at stripe but ahead at speed trapp. So that was a bummer. YOU BROUGHT IT HOME WITH YOUR 35TH CAREER VICTORY AND THIRD WIN OF THE SEASON.
THAT WAS SUCH A TOUCH-AND-GO SCENARIO. FIRST, THEY TOLD YOU TO SAVE FUEL. THEN THEY SAID TO GO FOR IT. DID YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHEN THEY PULLED THE PLUG THAT IT WAS GOING TO WORK FOR A VICTORY?
“Well, I was seeing the numbers and I was like man, everyone is going to have to go very slow to get it. And I thought we should go; and Roger (Penske) just said, go, so we did. We had a great car. I was kind of mad at (Scott) Dixon because he pushed me up into the marbles, so it gave me extra motivation to like get him back and get to the front. I’m stoked with the Verizon crew. Man, whew, I’ve had so much fun. I passed so many cars.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–INDYCAR–Gateway Motorsports Park–Post Race

Matt Tifft Earns Career-Best Second Place Finish After Starting From the Pole at Road America

“We had a great No. 2 Dragon Alliance Chevrolet Camaro all weekend long at Road America. It handled well during our practice session, just needed a couple adjustments done to it. It was awesome to get our first pole of the year at a road course. I really thought I had messed up my lap, but it turned out to be the fastest one, which seems to happen a lot at road courses. We dominated the first stage of the race, earning our first stage win of the season. I got shuffled back a little bit toward the end of the race on the restart, but with the handling and speed of my Camaro I was able to climb back to third and then into second. I wish we could have gotten up there to challenge Justin Allgaier for the win, but we just ran out of time. It was a great weekend overall for our No. 2 team at Richard Childress Racing. If we keep performing like this, we’ll get the top spot soon enough.”

HMR/Elite Motorsports/Pertronix Performance Brands Pro Mod Season Update

HMR/Elite Motorsports/Pertronix Performance Brands Pro Mod Season Update

Alta Loma, CA (August) –We debuted the new Pro Mod program at the Midwest Pro Mod March 1/8th mile race at the Texas Motorplex with Clint Hairston taking a win in the Slammers Class with a hole shot win over Dave Roberts (3.876 to 3.814).

Our NHRA Pro Mod debut came at Houston with Erica Enders driving at her first Pro Mod event. We fell short of qualifying running a best of 5.86. Unfortunately, we DNQ’d at Bristol and Norwalk but found some issues with the car that have been fixed. Our new crew chief, Jeff Pierce, felt that we would have a much better car heading into the $100K WSOPM Denver race. He was right, running a best of 5.92 at Denver altitude and but losing to the eventual winner, Carl Stevens, by .014 in the quarterfinals.

We move on to the Big Go at Indy and feel very confident that we now have a very competitive Pro Mod program. We look forward to the challenge of competing with the best Pro Mod cars in the country and representing our title sponsors Pertronix Performance Brands, Elite Motorsports, Strange, and Lucas Oil our many other product sponsors including: RJ Race Cars, Precision Turbo, Racepak, Precision Racing Suspension, M&M Transmissions, Comp Cams, Motive Gear, and CFE for their continuing support.

LONG POND, Pa. – Starting on the pole, 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series champion Will Power battled hard for his third consecutive trip to Victory Lane at Pocono Raceway, but had to settle for the runner-up spot when the checkered flag flew after 200 hard laps.
