It felt wonderful. It was a big relief and also immediately made you want to do it again. I’m always excited to head back to Chicago.” Continue reading Erica Enders eager to take her Melling Performance/Elite Motorsports Pro Stocker to Chicago

The Team Penske Verizon IndyCar Series driver is adroit at Iowa Speedway, too.

Newgarden had the field covered in the 2016 race, leading 282 of the 300 laps, and the 26-year-old North Carolina resident also finished on the podium the previous two years. Chicago would be great place for Auto Club
driver Robert Hight to score first win of 2017

JOLIET, Ill. (July 3) – After a runner-up finish in the most recent NHRA race, in Norwalk, Ohio, Auto Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS driver Robert Hight figures there is only one more step to make in the next race: Win.

That’s the goal for Hight and his John Force Racing team in the Fallen Patriots Route 66 NHRA Nationals this weekend at Route 66 Raceway. Hight raced to the final in Norwalk but an issue with the clutch caused him to smoke the tires and come up short.

“We want to go and build on a runner-up finish that we had in Norwalk and put four good runs on Sunday together,” Hight said. “We know we can do it. We’ve just got to get it done. We came up one round short last week. The way I look at it, there’s only one way to go from there, and that’s get that fourth run in.” Continue reading Chicago would be great place for Auto Club driver Robert Hight to score first win of 2017

Scott Returns from Retirement to Compete at Iowa and Kentucky

WELCOME, N.C. (July 3, 2017) – Brian Scott will return to Richard Childress Racing (RCR) to pilot the No. 3 Daniel Defense Chevrolet for two races in the NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) this season. After announcing his NASCAR retirement at the end of 2016 to move home to Idaho with his family, Scott will make a brief return to the sport with his former team to pilot the No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro for the second NXS race at Iowa Speedway on July 29 and the September 23rd race at Kentucky Speedway.

“Everyone at RCR is pleased to have Brian Scott back in one of our cars, even if it’s only for a couple of races,” said Richard Childress, Chairman and CEO of RCR. “He is a great friend of the company and did well for us in the past. We appreciate that he’s going to come out of retirement to drive our No. 3 Chevrolet. I have no doubt that once Brian is behind the wheel again, he will have the same desire to win that he’s had in the past.”

Daniel Defense, a leading manufacturer of premium firearms, rail systems and accessories, joined RCR at the start of the season to sponsor the No. 3 Chevrolet in select races. These two races with Scott will be Daniel Defense’s final primary sponsorship races of the year, but their associate sponsorship will continue throughout 2017. Earlier this season, Ty Dillon drove the Daniel Defense Chevrolet to a 10th-place finish at Dover International Speedway.

Prior to his retirement, Scott drove three full-time NXS seasons for RCR from 2013-2015. He finished as high as fourth (2014) in the championship point standings. An avid outdoorsman and a veteran NASCAR racer, Scott is a natural fit for the No. 3 Daniel Defense Chevrolet.

“I’m looking forward to climbing back into a RCR Chevrolet,” said Brian Scott. “Iowa and Kentucky were good tracks for our team. I have no doubt that with the advanced engineering and work they’ve put into their programs since then that we will be even stronger. These two races are all about having fun and, I hope, getting the No. 3 team to Victory Lane.”

Garcia, Magnussen fight back for third in GTLM; Milner, Gavin salvage top-five finish

WATKINS GLEN, New York (July 2, 2017) – Corvette Racing’s Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen placed third in the GT Le Mans class at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen on Sunday – a nice boost in their run for the GTLM Driver’s Championship. The duo in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R extended their points lead, and Chevrolet maintained its lead in GTLM Manufacturer’s points.

Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner, driving the No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, finished fifth in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s annual trip to Watkins Glen International. The team had hopes of scoring a second victory in four tries at the historic New York road course.

Garcia, Magnussen and the rest of the No. 3 Corvette squad clawed back from an early spin to contend for Corvette Racing’s fourth consecutive win in GTLM competition. Garcia and Magnussen steadily worked their way back up the class order and took the lead for the first time with less than two hours to go. The No. 3 Corvette led twice despite lacking the outright pace of the other GTLM runners. • Andy Lally, Katherine Legge score second consecutive win for Acura NSX GT3
• Victory at six-hour Watkins Glen endurance contest follows sprint race win in Detroit
• Suspension failure following contact prevents podium result for Jeff Segal, Ozz Negri

WATKINS GLEN, NY (July 2, 2017) – The Michael Shank Racing Acura duo of Andy Lally and Katherine Legge scored its second consecutive GTD class victory of the 2017 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season Sunday at Watkins Glen International Raceway, starting from the pole and leading much of the six-hour endurance contest to take the checkers in their Acura NSX GT3.

Today’s victory on the sweeping, 2.4-mile Watkins Glen circuit – one of the fastest tracks on the IMSA schedule – follows last month’s equally emphatic victory for Acura, Lally and Legge at the Detroit Grand Prix street circuit, the tightest track on the circuit and one of only two sprint races on the schedule. Both victories serve to highlight the impressive scope of development work on the NSX GT3, which is in its first year of world-class sports car competition. Late Crash Leaves Blaney 26th At Daytona

Late Crash Leaves Blaney 26th At Daytona

July 2, 2017

Ryan Blaney and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Fusion were major players for the majority of Saturday’s Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.

But a multi-car crash with six of the race’s scheduled 160 laps left to run ended Blaney’s night and left him with a 26th-place finish.

Up to that point, he’d been able to move through the field at will and led the race for nine circuits, from Lap 127 to Lap 135.

Just prior to the crash that ended his night, Blaney was racing for the top spot, chose the inside lane, but got no drafting help. He dropped back outside the top 20 but was on his way back to the front when Kyle Larson lost control, made contact with another car and sailed into the air right in front of Blaney, who was against the outside wall and had no escape route. Damage Hinders Top-Five Run for Ben Kennedy at Daytona International Speedway

“We had a extremely fast and well balanced Rheem Chevrolet this weekend at Daytona. It’s always fun to know when you’re hopping in one of these RCR cars with that ECR horsepower, that you’ll have a chance of taking it to the winner’s circle. I hate we got stuck back in the back near the end, especially after running up front for most of the race. A 15th-place finish just doesn’t seem right for this team. I’m proud of Randall Burnett and this entire team and can’t wait to get back behind the wheel at Loudon in a couple weeks.”

– Ben Kennedy

Ty Dillon’s Strong Day in Daytona Ended by Final-Stage Accident

“We had a strong No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevy today. I could drive it up to the front and stay there. In the first two stages I was able to work with my teammate Ben Kennedy a lot, and we could help each other get to the front of the line. We were having a great day. Obviously, being wrecked while leading the bottom lane was not how we’d hoped to finish out our day. I thought we’d be able to at least come back in the last 10 laps once we got everything fixed to get a top 15 finish out of it, but we got caught up in the overtime wreck too. We’ve been fast at every superspeedway this year but we just keep getting hit with bad luck. This was our last one of the year though, so we’ll put this behind us and turn our focus to Kentucky.”

– Ty Dillon

Daniel Hemric’s No. 21 Blue Gate Bank Chevrolet Caught Up In Late-Race Wreck at Daytona International Speedway

“Coming here to Daytona, the first thing was to try and make it to the first pit stop – something we haven’t been able to do all year at the superspeedways. We accomplished that goal. We got some stage points early. We played our strategy and hung out toward the back in the middle part of the race. We were making good progress toward the front of the pack in our Blue Gate Bank Chevrolet with a couple of laps to go. I got caught up in typical superspeedway racing. I’m not sure what I’ve got to do to finish one of these things, but we made a lot of headway today making a lot of laps.”

– Daniel Hemric

Brandon Jones Rallies to Top-20 Finish After Late-Race Wreck

“We were doing everything right with this race. Our No. 33 Rain-X / Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet was excellent and able to do basically whatever I wanted on the track. After we got taken out in the first two plate races from the front in the Stage 1, we decided to hang back for the first stage this time around. The weather delays changed our strategy for the rest of the race, but we adjusted and had a shot at the win before we got turned with just a few laps left. I’m so proud of this team though for pushing through and fixing up the car enough for us to pick up some spots and finish the race in the top-20. That’s real teamwork and what will help us make the Chase.”

– Brandon Jones

Brendan Gaughan Pilots the USAF Special Tactics / South Point Chevrolet to Top-10 Finish at Daytona International Speedway

“We were smart once and lucky twice, and that’s what it takes at Daytona. We had a great USAF Special Tactics Chevrolet today. There is a military term ‘SA’ which means situational awareness. When the Special Tactics operators knock down doors and go places they have to know what’s around them. You have to understand what is around you and what is with you, and that’s what you have to do at Daytona. We had good ‘SA’ and pulled back before the first wreck. In the end we tried to find the right teammates and people to work with and draft with, and got a solid top-10 finish. Well take it!”

Austin Dillon and the No. 3 American Ethanol Team Sidelined by Multi-Car Incident at Daytona International Speedway

“I didn’t see exactly what happened during the multi-car incident that ended our night early so am not sure. I tried to slow down. I downshifted but it wasn’t enough. We knocked the oil cooler and radiator out. It’s just part of this deal–you have to shove yourself in a bad position. I should have been smarter and rode around like half of the others in the field, but we were trying to get some bonus points coming to the end of the stage. It didn’t work out. Overall, though, I was proud to carry the American Ethanol patriotic paint scheme this weekend and close out the NASCAR Salutes refreshed by Coca-Cola program by honoring U.S. Military Veterans. It was cool to meet a group of them at the track this weekend and I’m thankful for their service.”
