Austin Dillon and RCR’s No. 3 Realtree Chevrolet Team Lead Laps, Show Speed at Texas Motor Speedway

“We had a strong Realtree Chevrolet this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. After qualifying in the top-five and showing speed in practice on Friday and Saturday, we were able to run in the top-five through much of Stage 1. The biggest issue throughout the race was keeping up with the balance of the car. We could hold our own in clean air, but we were too loose on our last run. We led laps in the final stage before pitting for fuel with 12 laps to go. These RCR and ECR Chevrolets have had speed all year, and we put up a good fight today.”

Late-Race Incident Hurts Daniel Hemric’s Day at
Texas Motor Speedway

“After our strong qualifying effort with the No. 8 Bulwark FR/Wayne Workwear Chevrolet, clearly this was not the result we had hoped for . The car was strong all weekend long and felt good in the pack. We were too free in traffic but Luke Lambert (crew chief) and the guys worked on the handling each time we came to pit road. I made slight contact with the wall off Turn 2 late in the final stage and that eventually caused the right rear tire to go down. The guys did all they could to clear the tire, but the rubber wrapped around everything under the car and we lost a lot of laps getting it fixed. We will keep our heads high and look to rebound next week at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Tyler Reddick and Richard Childress Racing’s No. 2 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Team Qualify for Dash 4 Cash with Second-Place Finish at Texas Motor Speedway

“Another race weekend, another fast No. 2 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Chevrolet Camaro. My Richard Childress Racing team has been putting in the work both at the shop and at the track, and it shows with our results. We have a good string of top-five finishes going right now. Today, we just struggled a little bit finding a good balance that worked for both Turns 1 and 2 and turns 3 and 4 since they’re so different here at Texas Motor Speedway, but we really hit on something at the end of the race and the car came to life. If I could run the top line for restarts and then continue it during a run, the handling was much more consistent throughout a run. We’re so close to putting RCR in Victory Lane for the first time this year. We just need a little bit more. I’m excited to have qualified for Xfinity’s Dash 4 Cash event at Bristol Motor Speedway. I’m really having so much fun driving these Camaros this year.” Continue reading RCR Post Race Report – My Bariatric Solutions 300

CAN YOU TALK ABOUT WHAT WILL BE DIFFERENT IN TOMORROW’S RACE WHEN THE WEATHER WILL BE SUNNIER AND COOLER?
“Yeah, it will continue to heat up and then it provides more grip. I think the groove in (Turns) 1 and 2 will just get wider and wider and that’s where the race, I think, will be won and lost. We’re juggling a new package. We’ve got both ends of the race track that are completely different. And you have the draft. And there’s a lot going on out there. It’s like the more they can throw. JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 ALLY CAMARO ZL1, POLE WINNER QUICK QUOTE:

GREAT WAY TO SHOW SOME RESULTS OF YOUR EFFORTS TO COME BACK: “It’s been a long couple of years, and we still have a ways to go. And, certainly race daquy is much more important than Friday, but we’ve been working so hard, and I think we are a bit guilty of trying too hard and maybe stepping outside of our comfort zone at times, and putting setups on the car at times that just aren’t proven yet. With all that said, we were very aggressive coming here and changing a lot of stuff on our mile-and-a-half program. Top of the chart all day long, and a great start for this Ally tean. I’m really proud of everybody for keeping the faith and working hard.”

THERE HAS ONLY BEEN ONE CAR NUMBER AT THE TOP OF THE BOARD ALL DAY THROUGHOUT PRACTICE AND QUALIFYING – THE NUMBER 48. WHAT HAS CHANGED FOR YOU GUYS? “We are working hard. I know I post it, and I say it, and I know my team does, some believe us and some don’t, but this is a tough, tough sport and we are guilty of trying too hard and being too aggressive with setups at times. But, with all of that said, very aggressive coming here to Texas and it paid off. We really put speed in the right areas of that car, and had a solid practice session and three rounds of qualifying.”

GIBBS AND PENSKE HAVE WON ALL THE RACES SO FAR, IS THIS A TRACK WHERE SOMEONE NEW CAN BREAK THROUGH TO WIN? “I hope so. Our practice was pretty good, but obviously those guys have done the best job in managing the races, and having the most speed. So, I’m not really sure. I think this race will be, if it stays cloudy throughout the weekend, it will be the most pack racing we’ve seen. I think the cars are pretty easy to drive relative to that practice session. We will see what happens. I feel like the other tracks the cars were harder to drive and more separation between cars so maybe that will enable some other guys to be in the show.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Texas–William Byron

TEAM CHEVY PRESS CONF. TRANSCRIPT
MARCH 29, 2019

DANIEL HEMRIC, NO. 8 BULWARK FR/WAYNE WORKWEAR CAMARO ZL1 met with media in a casual session and discussed various topics. Selected Highlights:

IS THIS NEW PACKAGE HARDER TO DRIVE?
“It’s not physically harder from making a lap standpoint but because the speeds are up, the corner speeds, have taken a bigger toll on everybody’s bodies. The vertical and lateral g’s we’re feeling; the energy has got to go somewhere and the cars, the way they are, the drivers’ bodies are what’s taking it. It’s just the nature of the package and we’ve all got to adapt to it. People have adapted to all kinds of packages over time and this will be no different. It’s just different.”

WHAT HAS BEEN THE HARDEST THING IN YOUR TRANSITION SO FAR? ASIDE FROM THE PHYSICAL DEMANDS WITH THIS NEW PACKAGE, IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE THAT HAS CAUGHT YOU OFF-GUARD?
“I made this step knowing that this is the premier racing series in the world. There are 39 other guys that are the hardest you ever race against. That’s something I try not to take lightly. That’s one thing to think of that and know that. But when you get in the middle of it and really see it in full term, that’s where I think that days where if you’re contending for wins. Leading. Running inside the top 5 in the Xfinity race and you get put in equal or not maybe as equal of stuff, that could easily be a 20th to 25th place day in a Cup car. And that’s really showed its head, I feel like, for me. So, it’s the little details. I think I’ve had to dive into a little bit more. Obviously there is a lot more data and stuff to take in to make you a better race car driver. So, just trying to process all of that and make sure you’re doing it in a way that’s productive is something. I try to look at that stuff but seeing what it can do for you and how it can benefit you I took for granted a little bit the first two or three weeks. Our speed was a little bit better so I felt like that transition wasn’t that big. But when you get in the race, you find out how big it is.”

ON RE-STARTS, TALK ABOUT HOW SMART AND HOW MUCH BETTER YOU’RE GETTING WEEK AFTER WEEK
“You can think you’re aggressive in this series leading into the Cup level. But when you get here, everybody is good at it. So, you’ve not only got to be anticipating and really seeing or thinking what the moves the guy in front of you or around you are going to make, but you’ve got to know that you’ve got to target what you need in practice and in those situations to make you have advantage. I think I took a little of that for granted the first two to three weeks. I feel like we had a little bit of maybe a head’s start on some of the package to allow us to not have to put as much effort on that side of it. And, as everybody has caught up, we’ve had to, myself in particular, have had to adjust how aggressive we’re being in trying to learn those techniques and whatnot in practice.

“So, you see cars so close to each other when we leave pit road and we’re all jostling; it doesn’t matter what it is. We’re all trying to see what our cars do well and what they don’t. All that you’ve got to use when it comes time for restarts because that is the best time to get the most spots. Once you get strung out, it’s tough and you’ve got to wait, it seems like double the amount of time, than what you’ve had to in the past to make runs and to make stuff happen.”

HOW DIFFERENT ARE THE DRIVERS IN THEIR TALENT ON THE RESTARTS WOULD YOU SAY, ON A SCALE FROM 1 TO 10?
“I think everybody could be crowded within a number or two. The guy who uses that talent and executed all the way through practice to ask for the right things out of his race car, that’s the guy who usually can excel. I stand behind that because I think that’s the difference.”

WHO HAVE YOU LEARNED THE MOST FROM AND CONTINUALLY WATCH WEEK TO WEEK TO LEARN MORE?
“There are a couple of guys. I’ve had a lot of really good leadership and mentorship throughout my ranks to get to this point. From as early as driving for Brad Keselowski, he’s the guy I could always bounce questions off of and ideas off of. Nobody’s going to give you their telltale secret of how and why they can do what they do. And Kyle Busch is another guy I’ve always been able to lean on. It makes me confident when I’m asking the right questions, I’m getting the right answers from the guys that are some of the most successful in our sport. And my teammate, Austin Dillon, is no slouch. He’s won a lot of big races and been in really good positions in every situation in his career. And, he’s got a lot of experience at the Cup level. So, I’m just trying to lean on the guys that I feel the most comfortable with in asking the right questions. So far, they’ve all been extremely helpful.”

WHAT DO YOU NEED THE MOST HELP WITH?
“Just execution. I think when I’ve done my part, we’ve had a mistake on the team side and when they’ve complete risen to the occasion and done their part all the way through the weekend, I’ve made a mistake. So, just getting the execution for all of us to be on the same page at the same time to put a solid finish together.”

TALK ABOUT THE STICKY STUFF THEY’RE PUTTING ON THE RACE TRACK HERE IN TEXAS. DO YOU HAVE ANY CLUE AS TO HOW YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO USE THAT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE?
“I can promise you I’ll be tuned-in watching the Truck Race (laughs) because we’ve only been in qualifying trim so far. The entire Cup field is in qualifying trim so you’re trying to run the shortest distance possible. Coming to the green in our qualifying runs in practice, I was actually able to run a little higher in (Turns) 3 and 4 than we’ve been able to since the repave, so that’s a little interesting to see how it holds up or where it transitions to. But, ideally, the stuff is heat activated. And it’s going to get cooler as the weekend goes but there are also a lot of other vehicles on the track between the Trucks and Xfinity; and we’ll have a pretty good idea. None of us are just hanging out and not watching what’s around us. And there’s prime races running before us will give us an idea of how that stuff is going to react and change.

“NASCAR and the race track, collectively, are trying to do something to improve the race and do something to give us more lanes to move around with. But, in the grand scheme of things, it’s also a variable; especially here on the asphalt race track where you get down in Turn 1 here at Texas and the race track is so wide you want to run the shortest distance you can. Where the tire dragging has been pulling rubber on the race track where the PJ1 mixture has been applied; it’s so far off the bottom it don’t make sense maybe until later in the run when the times have fallen off enough to go up there and run a longer distance. There’s a lot to be seen on that side of it throughout the weekend and we’ll see which way it goes.”

ᴏ Circuit presents elevation change of 133 feet

ᴏ Josef Newgarden wins race; Will Power earns pole
· Patricio O’Ward, Kyle Kaiser to make season debuts

DETROIT (March 21, 2019) – Two days of testing at Circuit of the Americas in February confirmed everything Will Power had heard about the racetrack in Austin, Texas, and heightened his anticipation for the inaugural INDYCAR Classic this weekend.

“I think the track is phenomenal,” said Power, whose No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet powered through the 20-turn, 3.41-mile road course with 113 feet of elevation change with a best time of 1 minute, 47.1044 seconds on 112 laps. “It’s got every sort of corner you can dream of.”

Ten drivers powered by Chevrolet’s 2.2-liter, twin-turbocharged, direct-injected V6 engine are entered in the NTT IndyCar Series race at the facility that opened in 2012.

“The track is very technical. Obviously, a lot of complexes,” added Power. “It’s a really fun track. I’m looking forward to going back there and hopefully get a good result.”

Chevrolet started the season strong on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, with Power claiming the pole and finishing third. Team Penske teammate Josef Newgarden, who started second, picked up his 11th career NTT IndyCar Series victory.

“I’m so proud of the team,” said Newgarden, the 2017 series champion. “The engine was great. Team Chevy did a great job; had everything we needed.”

Patricio O’Ward and Kyle Kaiser will make their NTT IndyCar Series season debuts this weekend. O’Ward, driving the No. 31 Chevrolet for Carlin, registered a top-10 finish in the 2018 season finale at Sonoma in his series debut.

O’Ward, 19, of Mexico, who won nine of 17 Indy Lights races en route to the championship ’18, will compete in 13 races this season. Kaiser, 23, driving the No. 32 NFP Chevrolet for Junco Racing, competed in four races for the team last season.
“I‘m really, really excited, I’m really happy. It’s a team that knows how to win,” O’Ward said. “It’s just a matter of time where we start winning, we start getting poles, start getting podiums.”

The Meyer Sisters Duo Dominates Drag Racing with Two Wins This Weekend

The Meyer Sisters Duo Dominates Drag Racing with Two Wins This Weekend

Mar 19, 2019 | Featured, Megan Meyer, Race Results, Rachel Meyer
The Meyer Sisters Duo Dominates Drag Racing with Two Wins This Weekend

While Megan Meyer was racing at the 50th annual NHRA GatorNationals in Florida, Rachel Meyer was in Missouri at her home track competing at the opening bracket race for the year, and both girls parked their dragsters in the winner’s circle even though they were 1,000 miles apart.

Driving the Randy Meyer Racing Team’s NGK Spark Plugs Top Alcohol Dragster, Megan came into the GatorNationals fresh from a runner-up finish at her first race of the year the previous weekend. Although the races were held at the same track, the track prep and weather conditions were not the same and the team had to touch up their tune-up for the NHRA National event with teammate Julie Nataas also competing in the A/Fuel class. Randy powered Megan to the no. 2 position in the final qualifying session with a 5.19 ET at 280 mph while Julie sat in the no. 10 spot with her 5.30 pass.

Megan went on to defeat Ken Perry in the opening round of eliminations before facing Julie in second round. Julie shook and slowed to a 5.39 pass while Megan had the starting line advantage and never trailed for the win, running her career fastest speed for the win at 283.91 mph in 5.17 seconds. Megan moved on to take out Jeff Veale with another 5.17 ET at 283.79 mph before facing Mike Bucher in the final round.

The weather conditions were perfect for both nitro-injected cars to power down the strip at 66 degrees and track temp of only 83 degrees. Although Megan has made it to the final round before at the GatorNationals, this time she got her first win with a stunning 5.20 ET at 285.35 mph, the second fastest pass in Top Alcohol Dragster history.

“I was stunned and speechless when we ran our top speed twice this weekend,” said Megan. “Each win is special, and this one has so much meaning behind it. We struggled a lot at this race last year, I couldn’t even get past first round, and we left the track devastated. But, we returned with our heads high and get to leave as the champion. I’m blessed to have the best group of guys on my team who work late nights and long hours to make sure our dragsters are the best when we arrive in the staging lanes. My dad had to basically throw away all previous notes of racing in Gainesville since there is a new track surface now, but he still he had the car dialed-in to run smooth and fast out there. We didn’t have any major thrashing between rounds, we hurt two heads in eliminations, but they can be easy repairs. Other than that, our maintenance was normal: roll in bearings, drain the oil and add in fresh Lucas Oil, 5 gallons of nitro, and 16 new NGK spark plugs. Our car is very happy right now and we hope to continue this momentum onto Dallas.”

Megan has now achieved her lifelong goal of becoming the winningest female in Top Alcohol Dragster and plans to add a few more Wallys into the team’s trophy room this year to keep that title. Catch the round-by-round replay on Fox Sports 2 Thursday, March 28 at 9pm ET.

In the Midwest, Rachel Meyer competed in the Gold Race event held at Mo-Kan Dragway in Asbury, Missouri in the Super Pro class with her Super Comp dragster. Running only to the eighth-mile on the track, Rachel dialed her bracket car in the 4.81-4.83 second range to win all six rounds of eliminations at her first race of the year. Rachel’s winning time in the final round was a 4.88 ET at 127 mph on a 4.83 dial in with a .004 reaction time. This is Rachel’s second win in the Super Pro category at Mo-Kan.

Before she drove her dually and trailer through the gates, the Randy Meyer Racing Team made some major changes to Rachel’s Super Comp dragster over the off-season, including a motor-swap at the end of 2018. “We rebuilt the transmission and spare tranny and I completely rewired my car and replaced my switch panel with a brand new one from Taylor Cable,” said Rachel. “Over the off season I broke out the practice tree, which I have not done in years, and really tried to focus on being consistent and being able to tell myself if I felt early, late, or right on time.

“I felt really good about the race as soon as I woke up. I was completely calm and kept cutting killer lights in time trails and eliminations and my car was running excellent. As I kept going rounds I was getting nervous, so I just kept taking deep breaths and calming down before I staged. I made sure to keep my heart rate down so I could relax between rounds. It just felt natural being in the car.

“I have a feeling this year is going to be my year and I keep telling myself that. Confidence is definitely a key factor in racing. If you keep doubting yourself then it will reflect on your performance, but if you keep telling yourself ‘I got this’ or ‘I am going to win’ then your performance will reflect that. I got a lucky round once or twice, but for the most part it was me doing a good job on the tree and at the top end.”

The Meyer Sisters Racing Team will next be seen racing together in Dallas, Texas at the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Central Region event. The girls had a great performance here last year and hope to do even better when they return this year.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTES:
How do you feel about short tracks like Martinsville Speedway?
“I love going to Martinsville Speedway. It’s an hour away from my house, so it feels like home. Anytime you can get to a short track and beat and bang and really work on those hard-braking corners you feel like you got a chance so I can’t wait to get there. Our cars have had speed this year, and I’m really looking forward to going to the flat paperclip that is Martinsville with Danny Stockman and the No. 3 team. We’re all racers at heart so we love short track racing.”

This Week’s Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at Martinsville Speedway … Daniel Hemric will be making his first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series start at Martinsville Speedway. DANIEL HEMRIC QUOTES:
You are now more than a month into your rookie season in the Cup Series, how would you assess your season so far and the pressures of racing full-time in NASCAR’s top division?
“It’s been a roller coaster, I think that’s a good way to look at it – but definitely more so emotionally. We had our situation at Daytona where we had a fast race car but did not get a good finish out of it. We went to Atlanta and were able to lead the race and had a top-five finish within reach when we had a right front tire come apart. This past weekend in Fontana, we had a fast No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 but made contact with the wall, cut the tire and took ourselves out of contention. That’s kind of been the trend all season. It’s been up and down, up and down. It has been a good learning experience trying to balance all of that, in addition to all of the other nuances that come with racing in the Cup Series and what makes this level what it is. It’s challenging, like everyone said it would be, but it has been fun trying to adapt and change on the fly. As a company, RCR has some good things to go off of, and it has been fun to lean on my teammate Austin Dillon through the process to make sure we’re doing everything we can to make ourselves better today than we were yesterday.”

The team has had some bad luck to start the year, but how encouraging is it to know the RCR Chevrolets have shown speed so far this season?
“The speed it there, and it is something I am very proud of. I’m extremely thankful to everyone back at the shop at RCR, ECR Engines and Chevrolet. There has been a lot of emphasis on getting us all of the tools and resources that we need to get the speed. We have all of that stuff in front of us, we just need to do a better job – on my end as well – of maximizing how much speed you need with the balance of the race car for the race. We’ve missed the balance a few times, but we hit on it well a couple of times as well. You don’t know what you don’t know until you figure it out. All of the teams in the garage are figuring more things out each time we hit the racetrack and we have learned a lot from the West Coast Swing that will help us moving forward. After Fontana we will be able to take what we learned, download it and legitimately see what we feel like are the key components to make us better.”

As a former short-track racer, Martinsville Speedway must feel like a home race. What are your thoughts heading into your first Cup Series start at the tight, paper-clip shaped track?
“It is pretty cool to go back short-track racing this weekend, plus to do it at Martinsville. I remember going to Martinsville as a kid to watch a lot of short track races, just being a fan. Outside of Charlotte Motor Speedway, I would consider Martinsville my home track. It is also a place I haven’t raced at since 2016 in the Truck Series. There has been a little bit of a drought there, so I am looking forward to getting there on Saturday and jumping all in. My crew chief Luke Lambert and all of the guys on this No. 8 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet team all really enjoy Martinsville, so hopefully we can hit on the balance and have a good weekend. I’m just excited to go back short-track racing.”
