ASHLEY FORCE HOOD REFLECTS ON FIRST WIN TEN YEARS LATER

ASHLEY FORCE HOOD REFLECTS ON FIRST WIN TEN YEARS LATER
COMMERCE, Ga. (May 5, 2018) — Ashley Force Hood was a fan favorite throughout her sportsman career and, when she moved up to the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, she took the sport by storm. In May of 2008, she changed the history of the Funny Car category when she defeated her then 14-time time Funny Car champion father John Force in the Southern Nationals final round to become the first female to win an NHRA Funny Car national event title. When she hung up her fire suit at the conclusion of the 2010 season, she had racked up four pro wins, including back to back U.S. Nationals victories, in 16 final round appearances. Matt Tifft and the No. 2 Nexteer Automotive Team Rally to Top-10 Finish At Dover International Speedway

“We fought hard today for our eighth-place finish. Our No. 2 Nexteer Automotive Chevrolet Camaro was fast right from the start of the weekend, and we qualified the best we have all year when we started third. Unfortunately, it just fired off way too loose on entry, and I spun in the opening laps of the race. I luckily didn’t hit anything and had no damage other than flat tires. Randall (Burnett, crew chief) and my team did a great job of timing the pit stops for tires right away while not losing a lap under the yellow. That was huge for us and allowed us to fight back up through the field. Our strategy from there played out well, and we were able to stay in the top 15 for the rest of the day before climbing up to finish eighth. Thankful for the effort my team gave today, and happy we were able to overcome some adversity early to still have a great finish.”

Menard Leads Friday Practice At Dover But Will Start 20th On Sunday

May 4, 2018

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Motorcraft/Quick Lane team showed good speed most of Friday at Dover International Speedway, but that speed eluded them in the second round of qualifying, leaving them with a 20th-place effort.

Menard set the pace in the opening practice session, topping the speed charts with a lap at 159.830 miles per hour.

In the first round of qualifying, he ran a lap at 155.246 mph to easily be among the 24 drivers who advanced to the second round.

But his progression ended there as his lap at 155.166 mph was just 20th fastest, and that became his official qualifying position. Continue reading Menard Leads Friday Practice At Dover But Will Start 20th On Sunday

KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 DC SOLAR CAMARO ZL1 – Pole Winner
DID YOU GET EVERYTHING YOU HAD HOPED FOR THERE? DID YOU LEAVE ANYTHING OUT THERE?
“I felt like I nailed that lap pretty good. Everything from coming to the green to (Turns) 1 and 2 were really good. (Turns) 3 and 4 I maybe left a little bit out there. I got in there a little hot and up the track. I planned on kind of moving up the race track each round. The first round caught me of guard. I was really loose getting in, but they made great adjustments on the DC Solar Chevy throughout the next two rounds. The second round we were probably a little too tight, but they kind of found the happy medium there for the final round. So, I’m happy about that. We’ve always qualified good here. I had yet to get a pole. I’ve raced well here but have yet to get a win. Maybe we’ll get both out of the way this weekend.” Continue reading Chevy Racing–NASCAR–Dover–Kyle Larson

ROBERT HIGHT HAS NHRA SOUTHERN NATIONALS VICTORY IN HIS SIGHTS
COMMERCE, Ga. (May 2, 2018) — Despite what the NHRA Mello Yello points standings may say, Robert Hight and his Auto Club of Southern California Chevrolet Camaro SS are the Funny Car team to watch out for heading into the NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway. The defending world champion has raced to runner-up finishes at the season opening NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, Calif. and the NHRA SpringNationals outside of Houston where he also secured his first No. 1 qualifier of the season. Currently fifth in points, Hight has set low ET and speed at the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla. and at the NHRA SpringNationals as well as top speed at the Winternationals.

“Jimmy (Prock) and I have been talking the last two races and we are seeing the performance come around and also the consistency,” Hight said. “When the conditions are right and the track is right I don’t think there are many Funny Cars that can run with my Auto Club Camaro. We just have to stay focused and be ready to adapt. Jimmy is the best at getting the most out of a tune-up and I am excited to be the driver in his race car.” Continue reading ROBERT HIGHT HAS NHRA SOUTHERN NATIONALS VICTORY IN HIS SIGHTS
