KURT BUSCH, CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 SCORE VICTORY AT KENTUCKY
Three Team Chevy Drivers in Top 10

SPARTA, KY (July 13, 2019) – Kurt Busch scored an incredible victory with the No. 1 Monster Energy Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 on Saturday night in winning the Quaker State 400 at Kentucky Speedway. He led 41 of the 267-lap, 400-mile race to collect his first win of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENSC) 2019 season.

The victory, Chevrolet’s first at the 1.5-mile tri-oval, was also the 2004 Champion’s 31st career MENCS win in 667 races, and 12th MENCS triumph for car owner Chip Ganassi.

With a strong showing as the Stage One winner, Busch’s speed prevailed on a last-lap pass to younger brother, Kyle Busch, coming to the checkered flag. It marked Chevrolet’s 783rd all-time win in NASCAR’s top series and also secures Busch a berth in the Cup Series Playoffs. Continue reading KURT BUSCH, CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 SCORE VICTORY AT KENTUCKY

Teammates Dixon, Rosenqvist Top Honda Qualifiers in Toronto

Teammates Dixon, Rosenqvist Top Honda Qualifiers in Toronto
• Scott Dixon qualifies second for Honda, Chip Ganassi Racing
• Rookie teammate Felix Rosenqvist qualifies third
• Alexander Rossi runs fourth for Andretti Autosport

TORONTO, Ont., Canada (July 13, 2019) – Chip Ganassi Racing teammates Scott Dixon and Felix Rosenqvist led the way for the Honda field today in NTT IndyCar Series qualifying, and will start second and third, respectively, in Sunday’s Honda Indy Toronto.

Dixon, who won from the second starting position last year, ended the three rounds of “knockout” qualifying 16 hundredths of a second off the pole time set by Simon Pagenaud. Rosenqvist, an IndyCar Series rookie this season but a two-time winner on the Exhibition Place street circuit in Indy Lights competition, will start third in his Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.

Twice a race winner this season – at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach and Road America – Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi was the third Honda driver to advance to final round “Fast Six” qualifying, and will start fourth. Live television coverage of the Honda Indy Toronto, 11th round of the 2019 season, begins at 3 p.m. EDT Sunday on the NBC Sports Network.

Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing Honda) defending race winner, defending series champion, will start second: “I just couldn’t quite piece together a lap [for the pole]. Both Chip Ganassi Racing Hondas have been fast all weekend, but at times it was a struggle getting a clear track [in practice]. It was better in qualifying with the split groups, and I felt my last lap could’ve been ‘the one’ had I finished it! [Dixon spun exiting the last corner of his final qualifying lap]. The second-place start for us last year worked out well and turned into a win so we hope to replicate that tomorrow.”

RCR Post Race Report – Alsco 300

Tyler Reddick and the No. 2 Alsco Team Fight Through Balance Challenges to Third-Place Finish at Kentucky Speedway

“After the last couple of weeks, we needed a solid race like tonight to get back into our groove. I just obviously wish we had finished two spots better than we did with our No. 2 Alsco Chevrolet Camaro in the Alsco 300. The balance was tricky to get figured out tonight. Firing off to start the race, I was just way too loose and would fall back on any restarts. We’d build tight the longer we went in a run, but it was just a little too late to contend for the lead at the end of the stages. We got our Alsco Camaro handling really well and were running some of our fastest lap times of the night in the second half of the final stage, we just didn’t have enough time or track position to get to the front. We learned a lot in this final mile-and-a-half before the playoffs start, so we’ll bounce back just fine when we come back to them. I can’t thank Alsco and everyone there enough for their support. We tried everything to get them another Alsco 300 win, but came up just short this time.”

Menard Qualifies 14th For Quaker State 400 At Kentucky

Menard Qualifies 14th For Quaker State 400 At Kentucky

July 12, 2019

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Quaker State Ford Mustang are set to start Saturday night’s Quaker State 400 from 14th place.

The starting line-up won’t be official until after the cars are inspected on Saturday prior to the race.

With a schedule like the one NASCAR is following this weekend, teams start the race with the same chassis set-up used in qualifying, so crews tend to sacrifice some speed in qualifying and focus on a set-up that will be best for the race. YOU ARE NOW HALFWAY THROUGH YOUR ROOKIE SEASON. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT SO FAR?
“I’ve gotten that question more and more over the last couple of weeks. I think that throughout the very end of the first 10 or so races, we started turning the corner as a group. We’ve been putting one foot in front of the other. We are doing the right thing as a group in trying to maximize weekends. We’ve got some room to grow and things we need to do better as a whole, and just cleaning things up. We’ve had some really clean weekends that we can have decent results. I’m looking forward to going back to some of these tracks and seeing what we can do.” Continue reading TEAM CHEVY AT KENTUCKY: Daniel Hemric Breakout Session Highlights

Stotz Racing Makes History at XDA’s Superbike Showdown

Stotz Racing Makes History at XDA’s Superbike Showdown

After coming off a first-round loss when the chain came off back at the Virginia XDA race, Kent and Frankie Stoz were determined to get back to utilizing the new found horsepower from DME Racing, Maxx ECU, Web Cams and Vance & Hines. Having to completely change the shock, clutch, chassis, trans, and power delivery needed to win the Anarchy No Prep race two weeks earlier, the team used Friday testing to get dialed in for qualifying on one of the best-prepped tracks in the country. Saturday rolled around with three rounds of qualifying. Frankie had been fighting a kidney stone problem with one trip to the ER on Tuesday already and was off his game with two big mistakes during the day that could have cost the team a motor, twice. Not tightening the oil drain plug on one pass and forgetting to refuel the bike two passes later are big no no’s. Lucky after a thorough examination of the bike they determined the CBR was quite tough and had survived the mishaps and was ready to kick ass in Sunday’s eliminations.
Unfortunately, the kidney stones had other ideas and Frankie and Kent were back in the ER Saturday night through Sunday 2:30 am. Four hours of sleep later in the first round of eliminations, Frankie went a smooth 6.67@204. Realizing that they had to face Ehren Litten, the #1 Qualifier and new MPH National Record holder in the second round, Kent knew he would have to push some limits. As Frankie and Ehren rolled into the beams everyone knew this was the race to watch. Ehren got Frankie on the tree but that’s when the little CBR shot out of there with the best incremental to the 1000 foot anyone had ever seen. 1.08, 2.82, 424@175 to half track and a 6.55@209 out the back door leaving Frankie with the Big Win.

In the semi-finals Kent decided to step it up a little more with the little Honda up against Gaige Herrera’s Nitrous Busa. Frankie ran a personal best of 6.49@214 and what would have been the new National Record any other time but everybody was flying. Considering that the little Honda set the record at 6.601 to dominate the last race of the 2018 season, it’s amazing that the 6.49 was only third quickest of the weekend! It was still enough to get another W and go to another final round! This would be the first time ever that two 1000’s, one Honda and one Suzuki were in a National Final together. Frankie and good friend and DMERacing teammate, Jeremy Teasley, had faced each other many times, but never in the finals aboard two liter bikes. Pro Street is the class that until last years NHDRO Championship for Stotz Racing, nothing except a Turbo Busa had won the Championship in any of the three organizations since 2003. All the hard work by the Honda team and it’s sponsors, Sikora Precision, Maxx ECU, JE Pistons, Robinson Transmissions, M2 Shocks, etc. were paying off. And now they were racing against another sponsor of theirs and teammates, DME Racing. Either way, it was going to be a great final!

They both left the line relatively together but then the mighty Honda made a mad charge to the 1/8 mile running another world’s best, 4.21@178mph to the 1/8th mile and Frankie was ahead. Jeremy saw Frankie out on him and hit the ‘Oh Shit’ button. By the thousand foot mark, they were even. Frankie ran a record-setting 6.46@217mph but unbelievably Jeremy in the other lane ran a better with a new National Record of 6.42@222mph. If anyone at the start of the year would have said that running a 6.46 wouldn’t be enough to win, you would have said they were crazy. Well, that’s drag racing. Frankie said, “If we have to lose, we wouldn’t want to lose in any other way or to anyone else. What a great race. Busa’s, 1000’s and Nitrous Bikes were setting personal bests and records all weekend. We were not only fortunate enough to witness it, but we were one half of the World’s Quickest side by side ProStreet race in History!” You can see Stotz Racing back in action July 23-25 at Maryland International Raceway for the 19th annual WPGC Bike Fest with 800+ racers and 10,000 fans in attendance!

Winning momentum on the side of Team JEGS racers Mike, Troy Jr. and Paige Coughlin

Winning momentum on the side of Team JEGS racers Mike, Troy Jr. and Paige Coughlin
JOLIET (July 9) — Team JEGS drag racers Mike, Troy Jr. and Paige Coughlin head to this weekend’s Burndown at Sundown Division 3 race at Route 66 Raceway carrying a bunch of winning momentum into the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event.

McPhillips Racing Top Alcohol Dragster
Mike and Troy Jr. are fresh off big victories in their respective classes, with Mike still glowing from his triumph in Top Dragster Sunday in Indianapolis, and Troy Jr. reveling in a home-state conquest of the Top Alcohol Dragster category on July 23 in Norwalk, Ohio.

Paige is holding her own as well, going deep into elimination action at every race she’s attended since beginning her summer break from Miami University of Ohio.

A two-time D3 champion in Top Sportsman, Mike’s Indy victory was his third since he switched to Top Dragster three years ago, and his first in two years. The 27-time NHRA event winner says a recent switch to a Fowler F12 roots-style blower has made his car much more consistent.

“We made eight runs in Indy and they were all picture perfect,” Mike said. “I’d have to go back to our last win two years ago to find another race where our JEGS.com dragster responded that well to everything we asked of it.

“Our confidence is so high right now and after running so well in Indy we don’t feel a need to change anything. The weather should be a little more agreeable in Chicago so the car will be faster, but that’s an easy adjustment to make. Otherwise there is nothing we need to do.”

Mike will once again be joined by his “good luck charm” — son Clay — in Chicago. Clay is becoming a big part of Mike’s summer of racing and bounces between his father’s pit and the neighboring work areas for his cousins Troy Jr. and Paige.

“Clay’s such a great kid and him being out on the road with us has reminded me of so many good times in my past when I was jumping around all my uncle’s pits,” Troy Jr. said. “Last weekend in Indy was like old times for sure. I was running around as much as Clay. We have the exact same gang coming to Route 66 so the fun will definitely continue. There’s nothing like racing with your family!

“The main difference this race is I’m running both Top Alcohol Dragster and Super Gas, whereas last weekend I just ran Uncle Jeg’s Corvette Roadster in Super Gas.”

Troy Jr. survived to the fifth round in Super Gas (it took seven to win) in Indy, which when combined with his recent win in the JEGS.com McPhillips Racing Top Alcohol Dragster, indicates he’ll be a contender in both classes this weekend.

Paige began her summer blitz at the SFG 500 high-dollar bracket race in Michigan, going rounds in the five individual races that took place during the event. She continued her hot streak in Indy where she raced to Round 4 of Super Comp with an average reaction time of .013 seconds.

“Indy was a great weekend for all of us,” said Paige, who is Troy Jr.’s sister and Mike’s niece. “We made it down to 14 cars in Super Comp and my JEGS.com dragster was running great. I expect more of the same in Chicago. I just need to continue to do my job in the car.

“I’m thankful to be racing with my Uncle Mike, my brother TJ, and my cousin Clay, along with my crew chief Justin Beaver and all the other crew guys that help us so much. Watching my Uncle Mike take the win in Top Dragster was awesome and I am very excited for his team. We are looking forward to Chicago and hopefully we can continue to go rounds.”
